Optical Receive Power Warning - Operating above threshold

As we know,
we cannot configure the optical transmit power of the SFP. Though we can check the receive power level received by peer through the command:
show interface transceiver detail
However, logs have been displaying:
Aug 20 06:45:14.434: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Gi1/0/25: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -1.7 dBm, Threshold value:  -3.0 dBm.
Checking it:
Optical            High Alarm  High Warn  Low Warn   Low Alarm
Receive Power      Threshold   Threshold  Threshold  Threshold
Port       (dBm)              (dBm)       (dBm)      (dBm)      (dBm)
Gi1/0/25    -1.7         +       1.0        -3.0       -19.0      -23.0
WIll this have a big impact on my switch? Especially the SFP module
Factors like damage, etc.
Also, how will it affect network performance, both the health and operation of my devices
Your ideas are greatly appreciated (and if you can back it up with docs, it'd would be helpful too! ^_^)

It seems your distant end is sending a relatively high output power and/or you have a very short fiber connection with very little loss. Since you are only in the 'warn' range you are not likely to cause any damage to the receiving SFP or affect network operation adversely.  You do have the option of adding an optical attenuator to the link to make the operating range more within specification.

  • Difference between Optical Transmit and Receive Power?

    Hi all,
I'm running fine with a 3750X Stack, 3 TE plugged in and multiple GB's.
Now I'm following errors in my logs:
May 11 13:16:43 MET-1DS: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/1/2: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -0.5 dBm, Threshold value:  -0.9 dBm.
May 11 13:25:39 MET-1DS: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te2/1/1: Rx power high warning; Operating value:   0.0 dBm, Threshold value:  -0.9 dBm.
May 11 13:26:43 MET-1DS: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/1/2: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -0.4 dBm, Threshold value:  -0.9 dBm.
The port Te1/1/1 is clean. A "sh int te1/1/2 trans detail" shows a high value for "Optical Receive Power". Also te2/1/1 shows high value for Receive Power.
Is this an indicator for the remote module or cable?
IMHO transmit power would be a broken module in the switch, but receive power should be the module in the host or cable, correct?
    Thanks
    MB

Your distant end is transmitting at a level which, when combined with the actual loss over the transmission media cables(s) and patch panels(s), exceeds the input specifications of the transceivers in your stack.
If you can check the details on the transmitting end and compare them to specification that will tell you whether it is the culprit. If it is operating within specification, you can insert an optical attenuator at one end or the other to drop the light levels by a couple of dB.
    Hope this helps.

  • CET: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/1: Rx power high warning; Operating value: -0.9 dBm, Threshold value: -1.0 dBm.

    Hei
we have some switches that are connected with our nexus switches via SFP-10GLR. all switches are ok but only one is getting warnings in the logs saying: CET: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/1: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -0.9 dBm, Threshold value:  -1.0 dBm.
all the SFP,s are same in alle switches.

    %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION Vs SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION.
The first one is printed for the ports that are configured, but not connected/active.
You can avoid such error messages simply shutting down unused ports.
The latter indicates that there is a real threshold violation.
For more details on these error messages, check out.

Can you please try clearing the interface counters, so that we can notice the frequency of errors.
Also I researched on the logs that we are observing on our device and have seen cases where the issue has been resolved by physically removing and reinserting transceiver.

If the interface is in down state with being admin down, you will get this message. In that case it can be remedied by putting the interface administratively down.
If it is up, you may be having link loss issues (i.e . not enough light received to meet the design threshold of the optical transceiver). Investigate using "show interface te12/9 transceiver details" and check the receive optical power level.

  • WiSM Issue - More than three APs working at the power above threshold

According to the RRM document: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_tech_note09186a008072c759.shtml , for each AP, the 3rd loudest AP should be heard at the power equal or lower than the threshold (default -65dbm or -70dbm according to different codes). But in our enviroment, I can see it is not true. Many APs have more than three neighbours heard at above threshold. Is it true in your enviroment as well?
    Thanks!

It's the way I have deployed the network. When the number of access point increases (though in diff channel) chances of interference increases leading to decreased performance. So Adjust the power settings and the number of access points accordingly.

    - what kind of WDM system ? DWDM, CWDM ?
    - what is the distance between the 2 sites ?
    - it seems that the received signal is too weak, the link is flapping !

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

    Dear Chaka,
If my understanding is correct normally even after setting the TECO status set,you can do confirmations, and you can issue
    components against the order.
After technical completion you can still make postings for the order. For instance, material withdrawal or a confirmation can be
posted if they were previously forgotten.
    Check this link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelperp60_sp/helpdata/en/a3/664a3397e311d1b5a70000e8359890/content.htm_
But generally in order to block the confirmation or goods movement for a TECO status set order,we can either an user Exit or
else block it using the settings in BS22- System status.
But you check this BADI - WORKORDER_UPDATE using the method at save or else withi this REORG_STATUS_ACT_CHECK
    Check and revert

  • EEM optical transceiver power warnings

i am wanting a script that will generate a syslog message for both tx/rx transciever power warnings and alarms.  I would like to use the command "show inter transceiver" which generates output similiar to the output below (also see the attached output  file)

Note: A single hyphen after number is a warning and a double hyphen is an alarm
I am wanting the EEM script to generate a syslog message for both the warning or alarm of tx/rx power.  Two different syslog messages:
    1) syslog  = "$interface has an optical tx/rx power alarm"
    2) syslog = "$interface  has an optical tx/rx power warning"
I am only concerned about tx/rx power.  I would like for the script to run every 30 minutes. If there is a warning/alarm on an interface to send a syslog once every 24hours while conditions are still met.
I have started the script (see attachment) and would appreciate any assistance.

Your internet connection speed has no effect on Time Machine/Time Capsule backups. Since that is all done locally, over your wireless network you actually do not need an internet connection at all.

You're asking about the computer's RAM. Increasing that will not increase the size of the internal storage available to the computer. You'd need to replace the HDD/SSD of the Mac, which, depending on what model you have may or may not be possible (with new models of Macs).

  • Receiving CO073 warning message while creating PM order for a certain equipment

    Hello experts ,
Do you have an idea why i receive a warning message : Valuation data is not maintained for valuation type
While entering a piece of equipment in PM order creation screen ?
Before creating the PM order , I've entered company code and specific cost center in the master data of this piece of equipment.
When I erased cost center from equipment's master data ,warning messages disappeared while creating PM order again.
What configuration has to be done for the CO objects ? maybe MM configuration needs to be done like in automatic account configuration ?
but it is strange thaw , equipment is not a material, thus and has no valuation class in his mater data record ....
another problem is: after passing the warning message , in PM order , Location screen , the cost center is not being copied from equipment master record , which contains the cost center.
