EJB 3 - question: Using an already saved instance

Hi all,
Can I use an already saved (to database) instance of an entity bean in
my application (in the same session)? Or does the instance become 'de-attached' (wrong word, but you follow?) ?

An Applet can communicate with an EJB via JNDI lookup but I would (personally) use an intermediate Servlet to handle this. Client to Servlet communication is http whereas to ejb is iiop - which might be blocked.
Injection only works in managed classes (EJB, Servlet, Listeners..) and an Application Client main class. So yes you could use an app client for handling resource injection.

  • Ejb-ref questions:

    1.if an entity-A is referece to entity-B , and entity-B
is referece to entity-C (and that is
    declared in entity-B 'ejb-jar.xml' !) , when adding
'ejb-local-ref' to entity-A ,beside of adding
entity-B,should entity-C be added too ,or a one can
assume that the EJB container will use the already define
    reference between entity-B and entity-C.
This is a simple situation , what about a whole graph
of references ? should one keep track on the whole graph
or let the container do that for him ?!
    2.I got several entity beans.
I wrapped the session beans in a java class as a manager.(through the local interfaces) - and now i created a session bean that uses the data managers layer - I defined an ejb ref to all related entity beans (in the seiion bean ejb - jar file) ....when i run the sesiion functions i get EJBException - not bound (refering the entity bean local home) ?????
    Thanks,
    Liat

In jboss xml the entity is defined like this:
    <entity>
             <ejb-name>User</ejb-name>
             <local-jndi-name>ejb/persistence.UserLocal</local-jndi-name>
             <jndi-name>ejb/persistence.User</jndi-name>
</entity>and in the ejb jar the local ref is:
    <ejb-local-ref>
                    <ejb-ref-name>Permission</ejb-ref-name>
                    <ejb-ref-type>Entity</ejb-ref-type>
                    <local-home>persistence.PermissionLocalHome</local-home>
                    <local>persistence.PermissionLocal</local>
                    <ejb-link>Permission</ejb-link>
</ejb-local-ref>I am looking for the object - in the data manager (which used by the session bean) this way:
permissionLocalHome = (PermissionLocalHome) locator.getEjbLocalHome("java:comp/env/ejb/persistence.PermissionLocal");thanks for the help

if you look at your error message you will see the problem. In your code you've missed to implement

  • Parsing ejb-jar.xml using jaxb

    hi all,
how to parse the ejb-jar.xml using jaxb? can anybody send the information about the API which we have to use to parse the ejb-jar.xml? (ejb2.0)
i need the details about all ejbs in an application, (like jndi name, Home and Remote name). so, how can i parse the ejb descriptors?
    regards,
    panneer

    Hi Panneer,
Well, parsing the EJB descriptors is, in principle, a task for the EJB container where they are deployed. From what you wrote I assume that you need to gather that kind of info to visualize in some (monitoring?) tool. Is that correct?
If so, the question would be whether you have access to the EJB jar on the file system (before it's deployed) or you can only connect to the server with the already deployed EJBs. In the latter case, this information is shown in the [NWA plugins|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/0b/5b5a42ea221153e10000000a155106/frameset.htm]. There are also some [telnet commands|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/79/3cf82ade038d45a21fbfdaee349b22/frameset.htm] in NW 04 and 7.0 (04s).
If you have access to the EJB jar file, you can parse the descriptors using DOM or SAX, but I'm not aware of any pre-defined JAXB API for this purpose. Probably you can also generate the mapped classes yourself and use them, however I'm not sure how that works with DTD (because of EJB 2.0).

We are fellow users on these forums, you're not talking to Apple or iTunes Support.
If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 on the page that you posted from should let you reset them : go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account, then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you won't get the reset option - you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use.

  • How can I update an already saved "bookmark all tabs" group with a current group of tabs? Or add only the changes??

    Example of problem:
I have already saved a group of tabs using the "bookmark all tabs" feature.
I open that group of tabs in a new browser window.
Then I modify that group of tabs that I have open, adding new ones, removing old ones.
How can I replace the existing tab group with the new tabs?
Is there an option to just add the new ones that I have opened and keep all the others even if I have removed some of the old ones from the currently opened group?
...another issue: can I share bookmarks online? What are the options for this?

    You can't do that.<br />
Each time you use "Bookmark All Tabs" a new folder is created, even if you give the folder the same name, so you will have to do any merging yourself in the Bookmarks Manager or just create a new group and discard (delete) the previous group.
If you want to share bookmarks online then you need to use a web based service that offers such a feature like Delicious.

  • Print to PDF - using Snow Leopard (Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose

i have a PDF form that i created that is used as a custom proposal that my company sends out to potential clients. the form in its editable state is only used internally. we recently upgraded to snow leopard, but prior to the upgrade, we were able to fill the custom proposal form out using adobe reader, and, as you well know, we weren't able to save that edited document as a PDF with the custom form fields filled out. our work around using adobe reader was to print to a pdf using the adobe pdf printer in the printer dialog. with the addition of snow leopard, however, instead of choosing the adobe pdf printer, we were to choose PDF from the bottom left corner, then Save As PDF, and it would spit out an uneditable pdf that then allowed us to email it to the potential client without them being able to edit it as well as have an internal, digital copy for our records instead of having lots of paper floating around (i know this is also doable using security that disallows the client certain editing privileges, but printing to a pdf is much quicker and more efficient, and the pdf security isn't really that secure at its best).
in any case, i came across this gem of a post here on the support forums that installs another option from the PDF drop down on the bottom left of the print dialog menu that reads Save As Adobe PDF and is supposed to do exactly what i am trying to get it to do...print to a pdf file from adobe reader.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
once i updated to acrobat 9.2 (as the link above suggests 9.1), however, the Save As Adobe PDF does appear in the print dialog menu, but it still gives me the same error that acrobat 8 - 9 gave me while using Snow Leopard — Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save — and as i've already explained, you can't save an edited pdf form in reader (as i am the only one in the office with acrobat) and still keep the fields as you've entered them in. the only work around is to print to a pdf but is apparently having some recent problems.
using acrobat, however, i know that i can save the editable pdf as a new file with the fields customized as i have left them, but it still saves it as an editable pdf and the print to a pdf option still remains the best option...that way we have digital copies internally that are uneditable that can be printed at any time or emailed to the client.
how can i do print to a pdf, based on what i've written above, using snow leopard and acrobat and reader?

A simple way is to flatten the form fields, which converts the field appearances to regular page contents. You can do this with JavaScript or PDF Optimizer (Advanced > PDF Optimizer > Discard Objects > Flatten form fields). A very nice script that adds a custom menu item can be found here: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/

  • I had to re-install firefox recently and lost all my bookmarks and passwords, how do I retrieve them? I have already saved them as an html file on my desktop.

I've been having problems with my computer, and had to delete Firefox entirely several times. I don't believe it was your browser that was the problem, though now I have lost all my saved bookmarks. I did export them to IE as an HTML file, which I still have on my desktop. I am now in the painful process of remembering and resetting passwords that Firefox remembered when I had it originally installed (I am back at ground zero with the browser now).

Please read this article about restoring bookmarks:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks
As far as your passwords are concerned, I don't think there's anything you can do. But for the future, you can use the following add-ons to avoid any future loss:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848/
    or
    http://www.xmarks.com/
    Both are good.
And a simple way to import your bookmarks (since you already saved it on your desktop as html) is:
Bookmarks / Organized Bookmarks / Import and Export
    Good luck.

  • Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's?

Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links created with Acrobat Standard to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's on an I Pad?

    driddy61,
As of June 2014, none of the Adobe Reader mobile products support the hyperlink action for opening a separate PDF document.
    Adobe Reader for iOS
    Adobe Reader for Android
Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8
In addition, the Reader mobile products do not open multiple windows/documents simultaneously, which would make the navigation between PDF documents nearly impossible. (Once a hyperlink takes you to a different PDF document, you have no way to go back to the original PDF document.)
The only Adobe Reader product that fulfills your department's requirements is Adobe Reader XI (mostly for Windows/Mac desktop/laptop computers).  Acrobat Pro and Standard are paid products.
Because you are in search of a less expensive device for your department, you could get a Windows tablet instead of a Windows desktop/laptop computer. Microsoft Surface Pro (that you've mentioned in your previous reply) is just one example.  You can also find other less expensive Windows tablets.
    Tablets
However, please keep in mind that there are two different types of Windows tablets running two different operating systems.
    (a) A Windows tablet with an Intel-based processor running Windows 8.1 Pro
    Example: Surface Pro 3
You can install and run traditional desktop apps (e.g. Adobe Reader XI) and new Windows Store apps ("Modern" or "Metro-style" apps).
    (b) A Windows tablet with an ARM-based processor running Windows RT 8.1
    Example: Surface 2
You can only install and run Windows Store apps (e.g. Adobe Reader Touch) but not traditional desktop apps like Adobe Reader XI.
In general, type (b) tablets are more affordable than type (a) tablets.  However, if you want to run Adobe Reader XI, you do need to check the technical specification of each tablet and make sure the following conditions are met.
    Processor: Intel
Operating system:  Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 8/8.1 Pro, not RT
Hope this helps you choose the right device for your department.  Please let us know if you have any questions about system requirements or supported features in the Adobe Reader products.

  • Should I use a separate JAVA instance for ADS

My customer has Enterprise portal and R/3 installed already.  Now they want ADS installed.  Would it be best to install a new JAVA instance for ADS or should I use the existing JAVA instance that is installed for the portal?  I think the customer is preferring to use a separate instance so nothing already installed breaks.  Also, if I do use a separate JAVA instance, should I connect to the portal through SLD?
    Thanks,
    Peggy

    Hello,
Installation of new java instance for ADS (or) using the one available inthe portal java instance depends on the following factors:-
    1) How much extra load can the existing java instance handle
    2) What is the user case and expected load for ADS in the customer landscape?
    3) Whether ADS will be used exclusively for portal ?
Following link may give you a better idea of whether to use ADS within applicaiton portal (or) use standalone ADS

  • EJB environment question (static helper classes)

We're using JBoss as AS containing several stateless session beans.
Now, we have certain helper classes that are abstract and contain static methods. Is this a problem for the EJBs? All of them use these helper classes all over their methods. Are they sharing the static class and will slow down somehow? Or is each EJB using its version of the class and can run concurrently?
Should we rethink this and put an INSTANCE of each helper class in each ejb instead of using static methods in the helper class?
    Now in EJB method:
    Helper.calculateStuff();
    Should it be?

The helper methods do database querries etc and return results that the EJB sends onwards to clients. If these methods
are NOT synchronized (and the ejbs share the static class) won't it cause concurrency errors? I think most of our methods are not
synchronized (and it doesn't seem to cause any concurrency errors so far... though the system have not beeen stressed test that much,
and concurrency bugs tends to pop up later and randomly :P).
    >
No, if you dont have any static data variables in the Java classes, static method as such will not cause concurrency errors, and the methods should not be synchronized.
If you have any synchronized methods and they take a while to execute, that could become a bottleneck in itself, because different threads waiting for each other,
so make sure you dont have any synchronized methods where it is not explicitly needed.
Think of a static method (without static data in the class being manipulated) as a plain function in another programming-language.

We have some scaleability problems with the EJBs... It seems as if they do not run concurrently. If we do a stress test with several threads calling the EJBs their response time increases by a too large factor to feel comfortable...

Apparently, you do have a some scaling/concurrency problem, which could have many causes -- transaction locking and clashes in the database, poorly configured database, network congestion, problems in the EJB architecture, etc -- can be many reasons...
The general idea to debug, is first to find out exactly what calls in your code that take longest time to execute (profiling, logging, System.out.println's are useful) when you put parallel load on your system -- rather than just seeing "the whole application seems slow" -- from there you can move on, "divide&conquer" the problem, etc...

  • Can only 'Save As..." Secured LiveCycle form after already "Saving As..."

Hi Everyone, I have come up empty on a solution to my issue.
    • I have a form created in LiveCycle, and it is set up with a document edit password, to prevent editing in LiveCycle Designer. (Printing Allowed: High Resolution and Changes Allowed: Any except extracting pages)
    • The form has been reader extended.
    Problem:
    • When filling the form in Adobe Reader, the form must be "Saved As...". I've been testing and if I open the original secured form in Reader, and fill it out and click 'Save', I get the 'Save As..' dialogue box to name my file, etc. and save.
    • If I close and reopen the document I just saved with the new name, and make some changes to any of the fields and click 'Save', the 'Save As...' dialogue box pops up again.
    • Users should be able to just Click 'Save' to overwrite the file.
    • This 'problem behaviour' does not occur in Acrobat. Just Reader.
    • This 'problem behaviour' goes away if I remove the document Edit password. (which I don't want to do)
So the issue isn't that the form can't be saved - It's that that user get's the 'Save As..' dialogue box every time they make a change to a document they've already saved, to their desktop for example on a form secured with a LiveCycle document edit password.
Any help you can provide is appreciated. Thank you!!
    B.

truyst me - it takes something a bit more closer to home to
hurt my feelings - if my emotions were
damaged then i simply am taking flash software way to
seriously and would have to reconsider my life
as a whole - so no, my feeling weren't hurt - not sure how
you derived that from my last post - i
was merely explaining what a true "bug" actually is.

Well, I personally have experienced issues with several
different apps way back in the day while
working/saving to a network - sure, perhaps adobe will
include support for network failure in flash
    - but unless they hear it from users, they won't feel the
need - which is why i provided info to the
feedback and feature request form on adobe's site:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/feature.html

for whatever reason i get the sense you are reacting in a
passive agressive way to my reply - not
sure why - i'm only here trying to help.

  • Using .vit for multiple instance

    Hi,
I have a main vi, uses rendevous to run multiple subvis at the same time, that needs to be opened separately per user which need to open the same vi multiple times.
I tried to use .vit, changed main vi to vit. Created new vi that calls this main.vit. However this doesn't run multiple times, only opens the first window. Then I used subVIs as vit. This even creates a bigger problem. The sub vi's that opened doesn't run.
I think I'm missing some basic concepts of using vit. I searched the forum, found some articles but I can't find what I'm doing wrong.
Should main vit calling several sub vit's work?
    Any tips, comments would help.
    Thank you very much.

VIT is not for multiple instances, it is a TEMPLATE. That means you open it up, but when you go to save it, it pretends that it's untitled, and you have to give it a new name.
That's useful - for example, I have a TIMING TEMPLATE. When I want to time something. I open this VIT file. I insert the code I want to time into a certain frame, and run it. I usually don't save it, but if I do, I have to give it a new name.
That way, the next time I open it, it's fresh again.
If you want to run the same VI multiple times in parallel, you must:
    - Understand what RE-ENTRANT EXECUTION means.
    - Set the VI to use re-entrant execution.
    - Use the VI Server to open each instance dynamically.
    - Use the VI Server to CLOSE each instance dynamically.
    - Be very careful about getting data into and out of the VI in question.
    HTH
VI Templates can also be used to run multiple instances of the same vi. If you open a .vit dynamically several times, you'll end up with several instances of the vit. Actually, this is an intended use of the vi templates. And it works great. The great benefit over reentrant vi's is that the vi templates have front panels of there own. So it's great to use vit's when you want several similar panel, without copying the code. Reentrant vi's where not intended for this. Before 8.0, reentrant vi's didn't even have panels that updated properly, so you had to use a vit.
