Elements 9 category / album and edits ?

Hi everyone.  I just got elements 9 and loaded all my photos into the default category.  Before I waste tons of time tagging, etc. ALL the pictures, I have a couple of questions.
Should I delete these from the default category and make lots of other categories (say for Christmas , vacation, scenery, etc.) and search for and load those pics into these categories?
I have my pics presently organized in Windows folders explorer per year taken and with sub-folders labelled as to what the pics are of.  Would it be a good idea to make categories or albums in the same manner?
If I make a category or album (I really am confused as to what the difference is), do I move or copy an image into it.  If I copy, are there then two distinct versions (pointers) to the actual picture?
If I edit a picture in one category, would the edits show up in the other category?  Also, would the edits show up if I opened the actual picture from windows explorer later, or will the edits only show up in Photoshop?
Thanks in advance!

You should make tags that are under the default categories, and apply the tags to the appropriate photos. So, under the Events category, you can make a Christmas tag, and apply that tag to the appropriate photos.

In my opinion, it is a waste of time to use Organizer to match or replicate your folder structure. I say this for three reasons. First, you folder structure is already available to you inside of Organizer via Folder Location View. Secondly, the whole point of using the Organizer is that it gives you much more powerful tools than folders. If you have a photo that has both vacation and scenery elements, you can organize it better than you can with folders. By creating a scenery tag, and a vacation tag, you can now have one photo with two (or more) tags. But a photo can be in only a single folder at any time. Thirdly, the timeline feature in PSE replaces your folders by year, and gives you a more powerful tool.
In my opinion, your long term goal should be to properly tag everything so that you no longer need to rely upon your existing folder organization system, and so that you would eventually search for your photos in Elements and not in Windows.
If I make a category or album (I really am confused as to what the difference is), do I move or copy an image into it.  If I copy, are there then two distinct versions (pointers) to the actual picture?
You use tags (and categories). The only time you use an album is if you need to put the photos in a specific order that isn't chronological or reverse chronological. You are not copying or moving your photos when you assign a tag or place it in an album. You are simply telling PSE that your photo is now assigned to a particular tag(s) or album(s).
If I edit a picture in one category, would the edits show up in the other category?  Also, would the edits show up if I opened the actual picture from windows explorer later, or will the edits only show up in Photoshop?
Yes, you normally have one copy of a photo, and your edits show up whenever you look at it. You could use version sets if you want different edits of the same photo. Your edits will be apparent in Windows, although as I said earlier, it is eventually (after you have done your tagging) good practice to use PSE to search for and browse for your photos, not Windows.

  • Updated iPhoto 11 and cannot open Events with double click or any other way. I can only view those photos by creating an album from all of them, then I can open the album and edit or delete etc.  Any one have that problem?

After upgrading to iPhoto 11 and the latest upgrade 9.4.1 (701 67) I cannot open any Event.  The normal double click does not work, nor anything else I have tried. The only way I can view the photos in an Event is to make an Album of it, and then I can easily open it with a double click and edit and delete, arrange photos etc.  Anyone have this problem. Any ideas about how to open an event?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Diff between cost element category 1 and 11

What will be the major difference if we create cost element under category 1 and under category 11.
    I am facing one issue:
Sales commission expenses account - needs to be triggered while releasing sales invoice.
System is behaving differently if we create cost element category as 1 and 11.

    Hi,
Cost element category 1 is used for primary cost and 11 is used for revenue cost element.
Sales commission is which have directly related to sales invoice i.e deductions then use cost element category 12 .
If your using category 1 then it should assign to cost center or internal order, if using category 11 or 12 then it should assign to Profit center.

  • How to transfer photo albums and edits done on iPad to iPhoto on Mac?

I created a photo album on my iPad. I had over 1000 pictures, and out of that I created a selection of 100. I edited and enhanced these 100. When I import the photos to the mac, I open iPhoto and get all the pictures imported. I can find all the individual pictures on iPhoto on the Mac. However the photo album and all the different edits done on the iPad are missing. Does anyone know how to make this transfer? Thanks!

  • Seconday Cost element Category Uses and Importance.

    Hi ,
Can any one explain me the seconday cost element uses and importance in cost accounting ?
Especially for the Cost element categories
    21-Internal setellment.
    42-Assesment.
    43.Internal Activity allocation.
    32-Order/Project result analysis.
when to use which cost element Category and examples.
I understand in the Cost sheet for the Overhead Calculation we use Seconday CE category 41.
But in the Allocation structure at the time of giving the Cost elements, i will get confused to assign the CE's.
This will be the great help.

    Hi Prad,
21-Internal setellment - This category of cost element is used to settle the costs collected in a cost object to another cost object within Controlling.  You cannot settle to FI or any toher Module using this category of Cost Element
    42-Assesment
Assessment is a type of allocation of costs from one cost object to another cost object say from one cost center to another cost center.
In case of Distribution, the cost gets allocated using the origical cost elements. hence the origin of the cost will never be lost
But in case of assessment, you need to allocate the costs using a seperate cost element with category 42.  In this case, the cumulative cost collected is allocated to another cost center unsing this assessment cost element. Hence the origin of the cost is not retained.
From a business requirement perspective, we need to use distribution for allocating the service costs to real cost centers.  After that we need to use Assessments
    43.Internal Activity allocation.
Using this type of cost element, we can plan, calculate the prices of activities and obsorb the costs to Production Orders, Service orders etc.
this plays very crucial role in cost obsorption in product costing or sevice costing areas
    32-Order/Project result analysis.
One of the most important and complex area in Product costing would be Calculation of WIP/Result Analysis.
We will be able to calculate and settle the WIP or Result analysis value to FI only by using Cost elements created with Category 32
I hope i made it clear to you.
Please let me know if you need futher information in this regard

  • Iphoto is making copies of my photos in an album and editing them

Hello all, I've had iPhoto for about a year now and it hasn't started doing this until about three or four months ago. When I upload my photos from an SD card, it will make edited copies of my pictures in iPhoto. I've looked all over trying to figure out how to make it stop but nothing shows up. It's not my camera because I have not changed any settings.

Create a test library and import some photos into it to see if you can reproduce the problem. If not then the issue is limited to your current library. If that's the case backup the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Change cost element category from 1 to 11

    Dear all,
We created by mistake revenues accounts with cost element category 1 instead of 11.
We created a sales document (contract) with account assignment to a WBSE. The revenues were appearing as negative planned cost so we realized the mistake.
Now we have deleted the item in the sales document, we have created a new revenue account with the correct cost element category 11 and we have added to the account determination (VKOA).
Now the revenue appears in the new cost element. Nonetheless we still see the revenue value as a negative planned cost.
If we create a new project and a new sales document everything is correct. But we want to mend the first one. Any idea of how?
    Best regards

    Fantastic !
    Thank you very much

  • I want to open photos in my iphoto album and use them in Photoshop.

I tried to open photos in my iphoto album and edit them in Photoshop but cant. Nothing is showing.

Albums are strictly logical things and only exist in the iPhoto database
To edit photos in PS you need to set PS as the external editor for iPhoto in the iPhoto preferences - edit the photos and Save it (Not save as) so it will be returned to the iPhoto library and the iPhoto database files updates correctly

  • Elements 12 Albums not syncing to revel

I had been previously using elements with ps. Everything was syncing perfectly back then. Was then forced to leave ps for revel. Since in elements 11 you can't link albums to revel I have stopped using revel. My album structure in revel matches my elements 11 structure though because of the previous ps app. Now that I saw that elements 12 syncs albums to revel I bought it and renewed my revel subscription. But now albums don't sync. Album photos don't upload to revel. The only way to upload is by checking to sync the entire catalogue. Then my pictures which are not in an album are uploaded. So clearly there is no link between my elements 12 albums and my revel account. So do I need to delete all my photos from revel and start from scratch???

    Hi Simon,
I would like to understand what happens when you are logged into your Revel account through Organizer and drag/drop any album from local album to mobile album section. This is the way to mark a album to be uploaded to Revel.
You can read more about this and other functionalities/settings around Revel feature in Organizer at https://helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/using/access-media-using-revel.html.
Let me know if going through this article helps you in uploading your photos to Revel.
    Thanks,

  • Does Photoshop Elements 11 organize pix by categories like the old Album Starter Edition 3.0?

I'm aware that Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 is not supported by Adobe anymore.  I have thousands of photos organized on it using its "Category" function.  Does Photoshop Elements 11 have a similar function?  (I'm in the midst of also switching to a new computer and my old one can't load the info on the PS 11 program available on this site.)  I'm extremely concerned I not lose the ability to retrieve my pix by the categories I've already assigned them, when I switch to PS 11 on my new computer.

I have now downloaded all the pictures in my camera directly into PSE Organiser. The pictures are all in folders listed by date the pictures were taken. Are they now safely housed in the PSE program?
PSE does not contain your photos. The photos are on your hard disk(s) somewhere, wherever they were put when they were moved from the camera to the hard disk (might be the default location chosen by PSE).
Can I delete the old Canon programs, which are still sitting on my Mac?
    Yes
And if I want to back up on an external hard-drive, how do I do that? Just drag the whole lot across?
Your interest in making backups is to be commended.
There are many ways to make backups, including the way you just suggested. You can also create a backup using PSE (which I recommend) since it includes the photos and the very important catalog file. In PSE, File->Backup Catalog, and set the destination of the backup to your external HD. Remember to do this regularly.
Sometimes when I've used 'Smart Fix" or other tools in the Photo Fix toolbox, I'm not happy with the result. But how can I 'undo' a fix and revert to how it was before?
PSE should create a version set when you do any editing, including the Smart Fix. Thus, you just need to expand the version set (right-click on the photo) to see both the original and the Smart Fix. Then you can delete the Smart Fix version.
-- I want to create an album "Europe 2012", and within it categories for UK, France, Italy etc. But although I hit 'create album category' when Europe 2012 is highlighted, the category just attaches to the last listed album - something completely unrelated. How do I ensure categories are within the correct albums?
I'm going to strongly recommend you don't do this via albums (unless your intent is to share the contents of the albums online somehow, in which case use Albums). I recommend you use tags instead of albums for this purpose. You can create a tag called Europe under Places, and another tag under Europe called France. I would also recommend you not bother including year or other calendar information in the tag (or album) names. You want "Europe" as your tag, not "Europe 2012". Why? Because you can always segregate by year (or other calendar time period) using the PSE Timeline; there's no need to do extra work to segregate the tags by year (or other calendar time period).

  • How to transfer metadata (tags etc) from Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 to A P Elements 8

I have just bought the Adobe Elements 8. I was told that this product was the upgrade product from the trial version of Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2. Can't find a clear solution in this forum of how to transfer the metadata to the Adobe Elements 8  and continue the indexing with the latest product. Hopefully somebody can help.
    Bjorn

If you still have your 3.2 psa catalog in your "My Catalogs" folder, try
    downloading PSE5  from here:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/photoshop_elements_5.0_trial_version.exe.
PSE5 should be able to find your catalog and you can convert it into PSE5.
If that doesn't work, it may be because you weren't able to run  "reconnect
all missing files" in PSA3.2 before attempting the conversion.   If all your
photos were still connected, this should work.  Then you can open PSE8 and
convert PSE5 into PSE8.  Do a "reconnect all missing files" in PSE5 before
you do the conversion.  Even though all my files were connected when I
converted PSA2 into PSE5, PSE5 had about 30 unconnected photos.
    Good luck!

It is a common misconception that Starter Edition 'stores', or copies, your files into it. But the program does not move or copy files at all, rather it scans your system's My Pictures directory, and generates miniature versions of your pictures (called thumbnails) so that you can browse a 'flat' list of thumbnails of your photos, overcoming the inconvenience of having to go into separate folders in Windows Explorer to have to find files. The thumbnails, as well as any tags, and Albums that you create in Starter Edition are all stored in the Photoshop Album catalog file, separate from your pictures, and your pictures remain where you originally copied them to your computer.
If you use Photoshop Album to subsequently download files from a digital camera or scanner, the default location where the program will create those files would be in the My Pictures>Digital Camera Photos folder. But if you do NOT use Photoshop Album Starter edition to download files from your camera, then you will find that folder empty.
The thumbnails in the Starter Edition catalog will exist, even if you decide to move or delete the original photos that were added to the program. This will cause files in the Photoshop Album catalog to become 'disconnected' from the original photos. To reconnect the files, you can use the File>Reconnect Missing files command to see if the program can locate the original files in a new location, and once again re-link the catalog thumbnails to the files they once referenced.
Since Photoshop Album has been discontinued, I recommend that folks find an alternative solution. One alternative that will preserve most of what you've created in Starter Edition is the Photoshop Elements 8 trial. Install that, and it will automatically convert the Photoshop Album catalog to a current format, and the program will not time out, as Starter Edition did. If you want to purchase more Editing power, you can also choose to purchase the full program, but it's not required.
If you are like many who have come to this forum wondering how you can get to your photos, now that the program has become locked or expired, don't worry; your photos have never been moved by Photoshop Album; they remain wherever you intially put them, on your hard drive. To get to them, you can navigate your file system using Windows Explorer. They are typically in your My Documents>My Pictures folder. Here is a handy How-To that you could refer to to find photos on your system, as well as some other tips for how you can use folders to keep your photos organized: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/maintain/filemgmt.mspx
    Hope those tips help!

  • After registering on the album starter Edition 3.0, I am getting an error message saying that windows internet explorer cannot find the website, to make sure the path or internet address is correct.  when i click ok, it all goes away, adobe and all.  Help

I called tech support that switched me to customer care and after over half an hour on the phone, they told me to look it up in the forums.  If you have any words of wisdom, I would love to hear them now.  I guess I have to get through this registering phase to obtain the unlock code.  I am surprised at how faulty this step is.  I expected more from Adobe.
    Please help!!!  Thanks.  Lisa

You need to update your starter edition 3.0 to a 3.2 edition. Go to www.adobe.com, click on "Downloads" then "updates", continue to look under "Product updates" and scroll down to "Photoshop Elements". Now you need to download the Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2. This update will automatically remove your 3.0 edition, and your photos will be accessible in the 3.2 edition. Now you can register again. Good Luck!

  • How to go from Photoshop Album Starter Edition to Photoshop Elements?

I have both Photoshop Album Starter Edition and Photoshop Elements on my computer. I didn't even know I had the PSA SE--I just assumed it was part of Photoshop Elements when it automatically opened after I stuck my photo disk in. So I started playing around with it and cataloged my new photos. Then I started Photoshop Elements, and none of the cataloging or tags that I had just entered in PSA SE were there. Is there any way to transfer the information from PSA SE to Photoshop Elements without having to retype everything?

You need to locate the PSA SE catalog file. It is called My Catalog.PSA and is Docs&Settings somewhere [in a hidden folder]. Once you have located it, in PSE organizer do File/Catalog/Open and navigate to the file you just located. It will be converted and everything should work OK.
