EMac won't connect to internet, but other computers will?

So I've got this problem with my eMac.
I've been trying to get it to connect to the internet through my cable modem, and it hasn't worked yet. However, all my other computers (including the vista x64 laptop I'm typing this on right now) connect within 3 seconds of being plugged in.
I've tried plugging the eMac into the both hubs, even plugging it directly into my cable modem, and it still generates some weird IP (169.254.130.32, subnet 255.255.0.0) which isn't even close to right.
I tried manually inputting the same IP/subnet/gateway info from my laptop, and it still wouldn't connect.
Any ideas?

Hi AttackBadger, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Any 169.254.x.x addy means it's not being dealt an IP from any DHCP device.
I tried manually inputting the same IP/subnet/gateway info from my laptop, and it still wouldn't connect.
You'd have to use a different IP than any other on the Network, but same Mask & Router.
even plugging it directly into my cable modem, and it still generates some weird IP (169.254.130.32
For that to work since Modems only talk to the last device since powering up, you'd need to power down everything, wait 5 minutes, power up the Modem, wait 2 minutes, power up the eMac.
Does this Ethernet cable work on other computers?
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.

  • Safari won't connect to internet but other browsers will

Firefox and Chrome can connect to the internet but since upgrading to Yosemite, Safari, iTunes and other Apple Apps have an exceedingly difficult time connecting to the internet. (ie server not found) I have to resort to turning off/on my wifi and/or restarting my computer. All other non-Apple applications can access the internet just fine.

I, too, am experiencing this problem. It occurs with both Safari and Firefox. It wasn't bad at the start; occasionally what seemed like my internet would cut out while I was surfing, but then the problem began to last for longer durations. As of this morning, I've been trying to get Safari to open for two hours with no success.
Here's the specifics. I open Safari. Most times, the load bar will extend about 1/6 the length and stop, displaying my homepage address in the address bar. Sometimes, the load bar will creep halfway, and part of my homepage will appear; typically, images don't load, and sometimes the page format gets wonky. Rarely, the homepage will fully load! I can even move through the homepage's image slideshow seamlessly. However, if I try to go to another page, I'm back at the 1/6 occurrence. Very rarely, everything works fine. Closing the laptop or Quitting Safari kills the connection, and I have to start this stupid process all over again. Finally, Firefox is either all or nothing; either the pages load and work fine, or nothing works at all.
I've done a DNS manual adjustment, I've created a specific Network, I've unchecked Safari from the iCloud options, I've run scans for malware and viruses (and came out clean), and I've done a clean reinstall of Yosemite. There's no need for me to tweak my router or contact my ISP; every other wireless application in our house is functioning perfectly. It's not the wifi.
Nothing's working, and I'm about to throw my computer out a window (not really, just frustrated). Any help would be so very appreciated.

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to wifi but other computers are working perfectly

    Hi,
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro that connects to WiFi no problem anywhere else - except for my parent's house (who I am currently visiting).  There are 2 other PCs in the house that connect to the WiFi without a problem, as does my iPhone.  When I try to connect, the Network Setup Assistant keeps saying "Connection Timeout" and then when I go into "Assist Me" the error comes up as "The password you entered is invalid."   I know that the password is correct, but I can't get passed this step...tried restarting computer and router but no luck.
    Help!!

Click the Advanced button in the Network preference pane, then the TCP/IP tab. Type something (anything, as long as it's unique) in the DHCP Client ID text box. Click OK, then Apply. Reopen the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP lease.

  • New Touch 3G won't connect to iTunes, but other ipods will. Help!?

I have itunes 9 and my old nano works fine with it, but when I connect my new ipod touch 3g, I get a message saying "iTunes requires a new version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I've already uninstalled itunes (and quicktime) multiple times, I even deleted all the music (i backed it up). When connected, the computer recognizes it as a camera.

Alright, so after 1.5 hours on the phone with Apple, I finally got it to work. For others with the same problem, here's what I had to do:
    1. Control Panel, uninstall iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Software Update, Apple mobile device support, and apple application support. It should be in that order I believe.
    2. Restart computer
    3. Here was my main problem. I needed to download the special version of iTunes for 64-bit vista. You can get it here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL925
    4. Install as normal
Reply if this worked for you!

  • When connecting to server the other computers will not mount on the desktop

    Hello
I have three computers connected wireless and ethernet. When connecting to the imac and mac pro with my macbook pro the other computers will not mount on the desktop. I have never had a problem like this before.
The imac and mac pro will mount the laptop or imac and the imac will mount the mac pro and laptop.
When I connect to the server with the laptop I can access everything thru the shared folders but nothing will mount on the laptop desktop using the, connect to server.
External HD connected with firewire will mount and the internal cd/dvd will mount.
I have ran permissions repair on the laptop. Have I accidently changed some configuration I am not aware of?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated
    Thank You
    Dick

    Dick,
I know this sounds silly but while in Finder goto (Finder)/(Preferences) and then make sure your on the (General) tab, make sure all the things you want to show are checked.
If that doesn't help move the com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop you can find in in ~/Library/Preferences ( ~ = Your Home Folder), log out/log in, and see if that fixes the problem if not go ahead and move the plist file back.
    hope that helps,
    Weston

  • Firefox won't connect to internet but IE will!!

I'm using latest edition of Firefox on windows 07 laptop. Two days ago my internet connection slowed significantly (i was only one) for few hours but then things got to normal. My computer updated (windows) last night and when tried to turn on firefox it won't connect or load website pages. First it said errror in my connection, now message says 'the connection has timed out'. I have done everything stated on firefox support (checked proxy - am on college network so it was on auto and I switched it to no proxy - no luck), I checked my firewall (managed by mcafee) and even though windows is not being used on my laptop I added firefox just in case - no luck. I did the other steps on the page - no luck. IE is working fine and at reasonable speed so it's not the connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Edit: don't know if this may help but googlechrome won't work for me either - it opens, and tries to connect to page but never does. . .

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Ipod won't connect to internet but says its on wifi

Okay so I gave up my iPod for lent and of course as soon as I get it, it has problems. My iPod says it's connected to the network but any and every time I use Facebook or google or really anything with internet and it won't connect. It says its not connected to the internet. I've tried factoryr restoring and it wont work . Yeah I just checked and it said the internet connection appears to be offline. Help?!

    - Try powering off and then back on the router
    - Try resetting your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
-Try resetting network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

  • My iphone 4s won't connect to wifi but other people's do

I have a new iphone 4S and it won't connect to the wi fi at our home.  Other people in my family have iphones or nexus and they all will connect.
I enter the password and the wireless symbol appears for a second but then it says unable to connect.
I have no trouble connecting to other wifis in other locations.
Thanks in advance, it is getting very frustrating.!!!

Just had this same problem I went to the apple store today and they told me my wifi card was out and then gave me a new phone but I backed it up and it's not working again so they said one of my apps might have a virus that is interfering with my wifi so it's back to apple again tomorrow They said they will give me another new phone but I will have to set it up as new and will probably lose everything except the contacts that I have backed up so if I were you I would back up your pics and everything else in iCloud

  • Imac won't connect to the internet but other devices will

    Hi guys
I've had a imac for the last 2 years I've installed boot camp so half pc half mac
Trouble is my mac won't pick up the internet it says it's connected but no internet access i use the internet provided by my land lady
My old pc and iPhone pick up the internet with no problems I think it's something to do with the built in wifi
    Any suggestions
    Kind regards
    Craig

Not sure what version of OS X you are running, but some of the following suggestions have helped some users:
    WiFi Problems:
Wifi problems seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following can help although, unfortunately, not always. In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
    Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion and perhaps Mavericks:

  • Admin user account won't connect to internet - but guest will.

I'm having a very strange problem with my imac.  When I am signed in using my normal admin account, the internet won't work.  Or if it does it is brutally slow.  And as long as I have the my computer plugged into the internet... whether it be ethernet or wifi, no one else in my house can connect to the internet either, or it's brutally slow as well.  The second I unplug the ethernet cable from the back of my computer, everyone else's computer on my home network works perfectly.
The only way I can avoid this problem is to sign on to my imac with the guest account, in which case the internet works fine on my computer and everyone else's.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I really don't want to just start using the guest account... I am a photographer and all my info, apps, etc. I use for my business are in my normal admin account.  Any help will be much appreciated.  Thanks, Beverly
    I am running Lion 10.8.5

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running a program at the instance of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There is no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window. If you don't see that line within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • IMac won't connect to internet, but can on internal network

    Hi,
I've tried resetting the router and various other things that I found on the internet.  I know its not a router problem as I am using my MBP to post this discussion.  It won't even connect to the router's internap page.  Any thoughts?

With the iMac failing to open any web page outside of your network, then I would be checking the DNS setting in System Preferences > Network > Wifi > Advanced. Compare what you have here to what the MBP has set.
But with the iMac also failing to connect to the routers internal web page then you've got additional problems beyond DNS. Using the MBP as a reference, if you make a note of the TCP/IP network settings in the Advanced section as shown above, is the iMac using the same? (apart from the IP address which should have the last number set to a different value).

  • IPod Touch 4G Won't Connect to Internet but No Problem with Nintendo DSi...

My sons new iPod Touch 4G 32GB won't recognize any networks. We have manually entered the name of our network and entered the password but to no avail.
I was able to get my daughter's new Nintendo DSi online within minutes but the iPod just won't work.
We have updated the firmware on our router, rebooted our router, reset the iPod, read the iPod manual, we've tried EVERYTHING.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your assistance!!

  • Safari, iTunes, iMail, etc... won't connect to internet but FireFox will?

All of my apple applications that use Safari to connect to the internet won't. If I want to connect to the internet I have to use Firefox. I am using a Cisco Linksys Dual Band Wireless N Gigabyte Router with it. My apple my ipod touch which uses safari also will not connect to the internet. This is extremely annoying since I can no longer download anything from iTunes on my iMac or ipod Touch.

I have this problem also. I hope someone out there is reading that can help troubleshoot. When Mail and Safari quit I can still use Firefox. unplugging the network cable and plugging it back in fixes it temporarily. It happens at least twice a day.
