Email phishing

I received an email this AM, supposedly from Verizon wireless, that my 1/28/14 credit card pay't was declined, due to incorrect card info, and I should click on a link provided, to update card ninfo.
I do not have Verizon wireless, I did not try to make a pay't today, and my card info is up to date. Also, email did not appear to come from Verizon. I am trying to determine if this is a phishing email or a mistake on Verizon's part. Further, customer ID and acct # did not match mine.

Yes it is a phishing email.  Delete without clicking on any links.

  • Malicious File Email.Phishing.DblDom-86 Can't Be Removed from Backup

Hi. My anti-virus has detected in the Mail app the malicious file called Email.Phishing.DblDom-86. It may or may not be harmful but it's better to delete it to have peace of mind. OS X though because it's on my Time Machine backup it says, even if it's already in Safe Mode. I'm using ClamXAV. Any solutions? Thank you in advance.
    Gbu.

Quit from the Mail menu of the Mail application first.
    Use Cocktail:
    http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/index.php
If you can locate the file and zap it with the delete file function of Cocktail, that would solve the problem.
If you can't locate the file, locate it first with Find Any File before trying to zap it with Cocktail.

  • Emlx - eMail Phishing Blackhole

Have detected several of these files.
Followed the path of the file revealed in FINDER
Opened the file which appears to be eMail and, all of the emails are associated with payments I''ve made through Paypal
What's the solution to rid my computer of these files and to prevent EVER getting anything like them again?

I was curious about this because I have found Spam e-mails with attachments that I have deleted from the Trash have shown up in the virus check.
Just wondering when emptying the trash if this just only deletes the reference without deleting the actual e-mail from the HD.
It deletes it from the HD, but not from the e-mail server. It also corrupts the mailbox index, so the next time you check for new e-mail the deleted file may or may not be deleted from the server and sometimes ends up back on your HD. The latter is almost always the case with a gmail account.
Also, if after emptying trash that e-mail shows up in the virus scan and is quarantined - are there any issues.
Yes, the same issue as moving it to the trash, mailbox index corruption.
Recently I have been getting long lists of such potentially contaminated e-mail files every time I do a virus scan.
A couple of things. If the word "Heuristics" appears in the infection name then it is a warning to you that something appears suspicious about the formating of the message which might be a phishing attempt. You should always read these messages to see whether it is or not. Those were not positively identified as being contaminated through an exact match to a signature.
Again, if this is a gmail account, you will need to do a little extra work to permanently delete it from the "All Mail" folder by using webmail in your browser to first delete it and then empty the Trash folder. There are some settings on the gmail server which have been shown to improve this situation.

  • Email phishing, malware, trojan horses, key stroke

I have a iMac with the new Yosemite 10.10.1 SW installed. I received an email and clicked on a web link that was characterised as Phishing and I enterred private information. I have since truned off all online contacts that may be compromised. What is the likelyhood that when I went to this scam website and enterred information that Malware, Trojan Horse, Key stroke counting type SW was installed?  Would the new Yosemite OS prevented this from happening?

Those sites are mostly designed for Windows PCs, so OS X should not be affected. Furthermore, OS X Yosemite uses Gatekeeper, which only allows to install apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers by default.
If you want to be sure there is nothing bad in your Mac, you can use ClamXav and scan the hard disk.

  • Emix showing up as email.phishing

A malware virus program I'm using is bringing up emix mail as phishing.  When I go to the path of the emix, it shows a ton of them! The program names a specific virus 81274.emix, but many OTHER emix mails are there.
Are some emix mails good ones and others  bad?  I googled emix and am not finding any information at all.
I would like to get rid of ALL OF THEM, but I'm not sure if there is a reason they are there?
    Thanks for any information.

    Hello,
All emails in Mail are .emlx
    (dot ee em el ex)
81274.emlx is the only bad one it seems, but only dangerous if you respond to it.

  • ITunes email phishing scam

This is a fake offer for 50 free iTunes songs. The link in the email says http://www.apple.com/itunes/winners, but it really goes to http://nolde.us/img/Winners/
The email seems to be from [email protected] and the server that sent the email is beryllium.elinuxservers.com. The page redirects to pages on Apple's site to seem legit.

I could not find a phishing reporting address for apple so I'm just going to post the headers here

  • Email phishing notice

Might be coincidence, but since I installed Snow Leopard a few days ago my son gets a phishing warning when he opens an email from me. He's using PCs running Windows at work and at home and gets the warning at both places.
I'm new to Apple stuff. Is there some way to scan my iMac to see if I have a Trojan Horse or something like that in it? I tried to search the forums but didn't really now what search term to use so didn't have very good results.
    Thanks,
    Norm

Thanks Barney. I think I'll hold off a bit before running ClamXav though as it's a Beta version for Snow Leopard and he states there are some intermittent crashes with it. I'm not experiencing any obvious problems with my computer so I'm not too keen on messing with it. I think I'll do some more checking and see if others are getting the phishing warning on my emails.

    Hi DT655,
Thanks for your reply.  Since my original post I have upgraded and subscribed to Office 365 Midsize Business.  All has gone well, everything has been migrated over and all has been synced correctly.
Except my BlackBerry Z10 where Calendar syncs everything going forward, but only three months back.  My BB PlayBook is the same (only three months back).  However, my desktop and iPads sync all events going back many years.
I have followed your instructions by deleting my old e-mail accounts on both my Z10 and my PlayBook and reinstalled them using the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, but it is still the same - only three months back on both BB devices.
As my other devices sync all events going back many years, and as there used to be an option within the old BB Desktop Manager to sync All Events, I am sure the restriction I now have must be a BB issue and not an Office 365 issue.  Do you agree, and do you know where I can get to some settings that allow me to change the three month default?
    Thanks.

  • Email re a purchase I didnt make  Worried it was phishing

I've had an email re a purchase I didn't make but can't find a way to cancel. Foolishly clicked on the link that didn't go to a webpage. Worried now it was phishing

There are a number of phishing emails doing the rounds saying that something has been bought on a new device, and if it wasn't you to click on a link in the email to cancel it - the link then requesting and, if you enter them, capturing your account and payment details. iTunes doesn't send emails like that.

Viewing your account's purchase history : See your purchase history in the iTunes Store - Apple Support (on an iOS device you can view the last 90 days purchases via http://reportaproblem.apple.com)
If it's a genuine email and it shows on your account's purchase history then contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption . And change your account's password
If it is a phishing email then forward it to Apple : [email protected] , and then delete it.
If it is phishing an dyou clicked on the link then that might have let the sender know that the email account is active and likely to be linked to an iTunes account - in which case yo might get more similar phishing attempts (and possibly not just claiming to be from iTunes), so be careful with future similar emails which have links asking for details.

  • ITunes email - possible scam - need help

I have been sent an email stating someone has placed an order on my iTunes Account and if I need to cancel to go to a specific cancellation page asking for my bank details. Is this a scam ?
The email address is [email protected]
I cannot find a contact number for Apple UK so am trying here.
    Thank you

It's a phishing email to try and get your account and payment details, forward it to Apple : [email protected] , and then delete it.
If you went to the site and entered your account id and password then change your password e.g. by logging into the account via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, or by logging in via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com

I received an email from "Apple Alerts" <[email protected]>
    Subject: Pending Purchase Notification
Your AppleID was used to buy the "H&C" from the iTunes Store on a Personal Computer or device that had not previously been linked to that AppleID.
This purchase was initiated from the following IP: 217.149.115.181 (Volgograd, Russia).
If you made this buying, you can overlook this email. It was emailed to you just to warn you if you did not make the purchase by your own.
If you did not make the operation, we encourage you to verify your AppleID:
Does anyone know if this is a scam?  Sound like a scam to me?  Thanks Lu

It's not from Apple, it's a phishing attempt to try and get your account and payment details - forward it to Apple : [email protected] , and then delete it.

  • Confirm Before Sending Email

I need to convert a standard mailto link so that when the link is clicked, a pop-up dialog box (Cancel/OK) appears, that then executes the mailto link when OK is clicked.
    To clarify: I have:
          John Q. Doe <a href="mailto:[email protected]</a>
And instead, when the link is clicked, I want to have a pop-up dialog box that says something like:
Are you sure you want to open an email window
         Cancel          OK
If OK is clicked, then the href="mailto:JQDoe@mymail,com" is run (nothing happens if cancel is clicked)
I realize that this only works when there is an email client running, that's OK.
I tried this with Javascript, and while there is no problem getting the pop-up window, nothing I tried opened an email window.
I tried with Spry also, but wasn't sure how to get the code to run in a temporary pop-up.
    Thanks in advance!

    There you go!
I gave you a helpful for this, although the first answer should really get the helpful and the second one the solved, but c'est la vie.
Thanks so much, and your right - it is time to switch to form based mail (for many reasons). Part of this is I am taking over editing of pre-existing sites, and I need to justify the unasked for changes.
Perhaps I will use the email phishing argument.

  • Receiving email requests re reconfirming billing info

I received an email from Apple_Inc<@hosticloud.com about a week ago thanking me for using the online store but need me to confirm some of my information. The email looked official with Apple trademark, etc.  I did not click on their link. I checked the info that is listed for my account and it is up to date. Today I received an email from .Apple Store <[email protected]> thanking me for using AppIe online store and telling me I need to reconfirm my billing data as there is some missing information. It is signed Your Friendly Advisor   apple icons Scot apple icons. I did not click on the link. I am assuming that both of these emails are phishing. This last email did not appear legitimate at all. Are others receiving these? Am I correct that the first request is bogus. Is there any action that I should take? I have order software from the Apple Store within the past 6 weeks or so, and it was sent out electronically without a problem. I have not installed it.

There are fairly regular emails on here about them (and similar emails saying that a purchase has been made and to 'click here to request a refund if it wasn't you), it's a phishing email - forward it to Apple : [email protected] , and then delete it.
