Email text garbled in received emails

After years with no issues, all of a sudden a number of emails I'm receiving have strange characters instead of readable text. It's always the same capital A inside a box. The same messages show up fine on my phone, and I can read them (mostly) if I choose to see the raw source. What's causing this, how do I fix it, and why is it happening now? I'm using OS X 10.9.2.

I understand you are using 10.9 Mavericks and in Mail you have seen several emails coming in with strange text. The following article does say Mountain Lion, but I would suggest following the same exact steps to get this resolved.

I have a MacBook Pro Retina with OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. I recently tried to send a large file through the iCloud email drop. The email stayed in my outbox for a day and made my email app extremely slow. The email never sent, so I deleted the email from my outbox and restarted the program. Now, my email is no longer receiving any emails. The same email account on my iPhone receives emails, but my Mac email program will not receive emails. My gmail, which is correctly configured for Mail with gmail SMTP and Google IMAP, works for awhile on Mail, which I leave open while working on other applications. But several times a day I get msg from Google: "We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account" . . . and requiring me to verify my account details, re-enter passwords, confirm security settings (or change them from "disable" to "enable less secure methods" and so on). In Mail I also have tried "taking all accounts online", and re-entering my gmail password inside Mail account settings. These steps successfully re-set comms between gmail and Mail ... for awhile, then it happens again. Enough occurrences over a work day that I just quit Mail and revert to accessing gmail directly. Apple Care advisor and an Apple knowledge base article say that Apple can't deal with this, as gmail is third-party app, and they refer me to gmail, and so far I've found nothing helpful there.
From today I also have several instances of a window saying "Mail has unexpectedly closed" and asking me to Re-open it.
I also use Yahoo mail, which stops working with Mac Mail at the same time as gmail, but I do not receive notices to re-verify from Yahoo.
I recently upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. The Mail problem happened occasionally with Mavericks but is far more frequent with Yosemite.

I set up the rule according to another apple support thread and instead of only sending the reply to new mail received, it was sent to all messages I believe that were in my INBOX, thankfully I only had a few but several people that hadn't sent me emails since I set up the rule, received the OUT OF OFFICE reply. I just used my email account which is a business account- not an ECU account but these rules according to the apple thread apply for all emails. Thank you

You can set it easily...
To access this feature in Apple's Mail app, right click on any sub-folder (like your exchange inbox on the left) and choose "Get Account Info." A window will pop up that looks like the one below. Make sure to select your Exchange account from the Account dropdown. Then click on the Out Of Office tab. If you have ever put in an Out of Office message in the past it will be displayed here. You can adjust and set your Out of Office from Apple Mail from within this tab.

In your email settings on the phone check to make sure it is set to receive emails on cellular network. It's a feature you can turn off so your phone isn't constantly updating emails on the cell network, but if you are usually in a place with wifi and aren't concerned about going over your data allowance, you can turn it back on.

Iphone 5 giving short vibrator pulses while talking, no emails, texts, or notifications received.

While I'm having a conversation with someone, my I 5 will give a short vibrator pulse every few seconds, and I won't have received any emails, texts, other calls, or any notifications of any kind. There doesn't seem to be any apparent reason for it, I've seen questions from others about the phone vibrating when they receive a text or an email while they are talking, but none about getting random vibrator pulses for no apparent reason. It doesn't seem to be specific to any type of number either (toll free, long distance etc.). Does anyone know why thid happens?

You need a DATA service enabled by your carrier to be able to send e-mail via thier network. Do you have a data plan with your carrier ? If so - is it enabled ?
Can you access internet thru your network (not wifi) ?

Exchange server 2010 can send email but can't receive email

Hi, I currently built up the exchange server 2010 within Windows 2008 server R2..I followed the youtube exchange server guide and now I am able to receive and send email within the account I created .. I can send email to hotmail or gmail account that I
have. But I can't receive the emails from those. And I have a free domain service from twbbs.org My FQDN is: al7283.twbbs.org . and I 've setup the MX records on this even though I don't know if they are correct configuration. I've open up
the ports that needed. I also created the MX records and A records within DNS server .. can anyone guide me and tell me what should I configure for this troublesome problem??

ON your receive connector check the security.
in console
1) server config
2) hub transport
3) receive connectors (Default <server name>) this should be listning on port 25
4) right click and properties
5) select permission group tab
6) Anonymous needs to be checked otherwise you will only receive email from servers that have a username/password on your email server.
7) Restart transport service and try again.
Your DNS config looks over complicated create a MX record 10 called Mail.al7283.twbbs.org
point to al7283.twbbs.org
You don't need mail.al7283.twbbs.org "A record" or a MX pointing to 122.116.90.148, it's the same as the other MX record if one is down they both will be.

Pushing the previous email, not the "just received" email

I just installed a new email account on my Blackberry. But when I tried to test it by sending an email to that account, the first email that was pushed to my Blackberry wasn't the one I sent, but one that had been received long ago. Now, every time I send and email to that account, the email that is pushed to the Blackberry is the email that was received JUST PRIOR to that email. So the Blackberry is always one email behind the current. If I send an email to the account, and email is always pushed immediately to the Blackberry, it just isn't the current email. Has anyone seen this and how can I get my Blackberry on track?

The first thing we want to check is that your account is syncing properly. To do so, go to settings > accounts & sync > select the e-mail account to make sure the sync is on. Next, is everything else working properly on your phone? Please ensure mobile data is enabled by going to settings > more settings > and making sure mobile data has the green light. Finally, as a last ditch effort, you may wish to remove and then re-add the account altogether. Here's how to remove http://vz.to/RcSUUu . I can receive email but I can not send email messages. I keep on getting the following ; can not send mail the recipient - lists the email address - was rejected by the server. How do I fix this problem?

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

Icloud email send but not receive email

I have the same issue....it only affects my me.com email account that I setup to utilize iCloud. I can receive email OK but get an error when sending,,,,,"The connection to the outgoing server p07-smtp.mail.me.com failed."
I go to settings to check the smtp settings and it won't let me change them.
Any thoughts?

One email account sends and receives emails, the other does not

I have two different email accounts set up on my phone. They both worked, until I had my phone was serviced and wiped clean. Now one account sends and receives and the other does not. I have tried everything from deleting the account on the phone and rebooting, to changing my password. When I reactivate the account I get a message saying "activation server" and that messages will be forwarded within 20 minutes and they never come. I'm not sure what else to try.

What is your BlackBerry PIN to investigate?
When you go to send an email using this account, do you get an error? Are you able to select this email account for sending an email?

Change iCal invitation email text (wrong sender in email)

Please help me... I have read forum after forum and thread after thread to find a solution...
When sending calendar invitations from iCal, they are sent with the old company name I used when installing my computer instead of the one I use today. So, the text I want to change in the email received by the invitee is "Thomas Dalebring - Humanor AB invited you to..." to "Thomas Dalebring - Predictio invited you to..."
Of course, the current problem creates quite a few misunderstandings and now I cannot use iCal to send invitations anymore.
I have tried changing my user profile in address book and changing my profile in the user accounts - but nothing works...
Has anybody else had this issue? Please help!

I FOUND the answer.
Go to your Mail application. Select Preferences. Select Composing. CHANGE "Send new messages from" field to contain the email address you wish to be the sender.

I have a bigpond email account and can receive emails on both ipad and iPhone. I can receive on th iPhone when on 3G. When I connect either to a wi if network I cannot send emails. Get a message that says my email address is rejected by the server.

I have both iPhone and iPad that will not send emails when I am connected via wi if. Have tried three wi if networks. I get a messag that says the sender address (my address) was rejected by the server. Any ideas on what I need to do?

Definitely works ok from pc.
Have deleted and re-established account a few times now but still the same.
I have actually given up and added gmail account which is working fine.
Sends and receives no problem.
Bloody bigpond....
We are not remote at all. Sitting in the fantastic Pavilion Hotel in Phnom Penh. Another couple here having trouble but not bigpond. Hotel staff have tried to help but to no avail.
Giving up and stick with gmail until we get home then start trying to get resolution.
Problem actually existed on a personal wi fi network in Melbourne before we left so I should have tried to resolve it then.
