Email when approval are required - Project Server 2013

Hi everyone,
I've got a little question, is it possible to send an email when a new update appears in the "Approval Center" (PWA/Approvals.aspx) ? And if yes, how can I do this ?
I've tried with a workflow (in the "Project Server Workflow Tasks" list) but it does not seem to work.

Ditto on what Hrishi suggests.
I would use a SQL query that search new approvals and when it finds one, then send an email. After the query is written, use SSIS (Sql Server Integration Services) and create a job to manage this. There are probably several goods SQL
administrators that could set this up for you.

I am also experiencing issues with this. After the approval task is completed, the Workflow gets cancelled with the following message
RequestorId: 60d96368-4cb4-b059-8086-604972a92e60. Details: System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException: The given key was not present in the dictionary. at Microsoft.Activities.Hosting.Runtime.Subroutine.SubroutineChild.Execute(CodeActivityContext context)
at System.Activities.CodeActivity.InternalExecute(ActivityInstance instance, ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager bookmarkManager) at System.Activities.Runtime.ActivityExecutor.ExecuteActivityWorkItem.ExecuteBody(ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager

All other desired workflow actions work as expected. Emails are sent, project is moved from stage to stage, however as soon as the workflow approval task is completed, either Approved or Rejected, the Internal Status is changed to Canceled and the
workflow fails.
What is interesting is when the Approval task is completed, the approver will receive an email notification that the task was CANCELLED or DELETED....
not COMPLETED, which is what would be expected.
Has anyone seen this - any potential resolution?

"View failed to load" error when I open Resources - Project Server 2013

I get the following error when I open the Resources Page (I am using Project Server 2013):
"The view failed to load. Press OK to reload this view with the default settings. Press Cancel to select another view"

Got "Unknown error occured" when access to the Approval page in Project Server 2013

Let's verify the following:
Whether the issue exists in all of the users? Done a test with a user with full control permission, compare the results.
What is the current SP\CU version installed on Server? deploy the latest CU, compare the results.
Whether the issue exists in other browsers, done a test in another browser, compare the results.
Whether all resources experiencing this error.
"An Unknown Error has occurred" is a generic error message. Please check ULS log for more detail information about the issue.
In addition, as this issue is related to project server, I suggest you create a new thread on project server, more experts will assist you:

Project Server 2013 Project Site Documents

Hi All,
We are using project server 2013. The project site (template) document library is configured with the project folders and templates. i.e. when the project is created, the project site will be created with required project document templates. We want to delete
the project document templates from the projects sites which was created already, how can we achieve this.

The simplest way I can think of is to use PowerShell. Be careful with it, though, and test in a test enviroment, so that you do not end up deleting files that you actually want.

Project Server 2013 SSRS with Project Site

Hi All,
We are using Project Server 2013. We have developed a SSRS report by accessing Project Site lists. It was working fine for some time, now when we try to access the report it is showing loading. The data source itself is not working, we used http://<servername>/PWA
as URL for the data source . The reports developed without Project Site list are working fine.
After 5 to 10 minutes it is showing the below error.
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for dataset 'dtRisk'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
An error occurred when accessing the specified SharePoint list. The connection string might not be valid. Verify that the connection string is correct. (rsSPDataProviderError)

When we try to test the datasource connecting string, after 5 minutes showing the below error.

Hi Taj,
Your list is in PWA? is a global list?, if not, try to make a connection with http://server/PWA/SiteProject may this can resolve, because when you do some DS with a SPList, your need to stablish that connection directly at site path where you have the list.

Project Server 2013 Project Site Permission

Hi All,
Q1: We are using project server 2013, most of the time the projects are created by the PMO coordinators and it will be assigned to the project manager. Project coordinator and Project Manager belongs to "Project Manager" group. After assigning
the project when the project manager tries to access Project Site, he is getting "why you want to access this site". When I checked project site permission only project coordinator name is added to the Owners group. Normally the project owner should
have the permission to the project site, how to fix it.
Q2: We have different enterprise project type with different site templates. When the project type is changed from one type to another, is it possible to delete and recreate the respective project sites automatically.

Q1) this is a question related to how your security is set up. If you are using Project Server Permission mode, people in Project managers groups, who have edit ability on your project will get added to the Project manager Synchronized group on the project
site upon publish. You just need to make sure your secueiry ctegories and groups are set up as such.
Alternatively, you could set the owner of the project to be the project manager once they take ownership.
Q2) This will be a manual activity. You need to disconnect the site under server settings, then delete site. Then you can create the site, which will pickup the new EPT set project site template automatically.

Project Server 2013 - Project Plan crashes frequently

We are using EPM , and everytime we update the project plan using enterprise project, the plan crashes and it does not allow me to publish the plan on the Project server.
Please suggest solution for the above

First of all, is your Project Server 2013 system updated with the latest Cumulative Updates and/or with Service Pack 1 (just released yesterday)? If not, I would strongly suggest that you update your system and your copies of Microsoft Project 2013
with Service Pack 1 at the earliest date possible.
Second, regarding this project in particular, I would strongly suspect that this project is corrupted. To resolve the corruption, you will need to use the Save for Sharing feature in Microsoft Project 2013. To do this, right-click anywhere on
a ribbon tab in Microsoft Project 2013, such as the Tasks tab, and then select the Customize Quick Access Toolbar item on the shortcut menu. In upper left corner of the Project Options dialog, click the Choose Commands From pick list and select
the All Commands item. In the list of commands on the left side, select the Save For Sharing item and click the Add button to add it to the list on the right. Click the OK button when finished.
To use the Save for Sharing feature, do the following:
Open the enterprise project in question.
Click the Save for Sharing button in the Quick Access Toolbar.
In the Save dialog, save the MPP file to a location where you can find it easily, such as your computer Desktop, for example.
Close the MPP file.
Reopen the MPP file.
Click File > Save As and then save the project.
When the Save operation is done, try publishing the project.

there is any way to get the security group of the logged in user using SQL query.

Taj,
The query above gives you a complete list of user groups and users. It does not filter by resource name/group.
You can get the logged in user using the "USer Filter" webpart, on which the SSRS report is being displayed (assuming you are displaying it on a SharePoint page). You will need to pass this as a parameter into your SSRS report.

Pull large amounts of data using odata, client API and so takes a long time in project server 2013

We are trying to pull large amounts of data in project server 2013 using both client API and odata calls, but it seem to take a long time. How is this done
In project server 2010 we did this creating SQL views in both the reporting database and for list creating a view in the content database. Our IT dept is saying we can't do this anymore. How does a view in Project database or content database create issues?
As long as we don't add a field in the table. So how's one to do this with creating a view?

If you are using Project Server 2013 on premise I would recommend using T-SQL against the dbo. schema in the Project Web Database for your reports, this will be far quicker that the APIs. You can create custom objects in the dbo. schema, see the link below:

It is not supported to query the SharePoint content database directly with T-SQL or add any custom objects to the content database.

We are using project server 2013. We have customized the project site template. We want to display the Project Web App navigation (link) in the top of the project site. While customizing the project site it is showing the Project Web App link at the
top. Once it is configured in the project enterprise project type and created project the Project Web App link is not appearing. It is showing only the project name.

Was the link correctly working in the project site before saving it as a template? Try creating a project site directly from the template (without creating a project first). Also be sure that you associated the correct site template to the EPT you chosen
in PWA project center for creating the new project.

Hi Vijay,
If you are installing Project Server on SharePoint farm, You need to start the service Project Application Service which would be available after you install project Server 2013.
For Project Server Reporting you need to start Excel service and Secure Store service.

Workflow in Project server 2013 online not going particular stage after Approval

i have created workflow using sharepoint designer 2013 for project server 2013 online. and i have also set the approver after the first stage. when i create a project using this workflow, project is created successfully and the approval task also go for
a approval to specific user. and i have set the property that after approval it has to go on specific stage. but the problem is when user approve the task it shows approved but my stage in workflow is remain same. it is not going to any stage.
i don't know why this type of problem is occur.
FYI, i have created same workflow for Project server 2013 on premise(Which is installed in my server) and
it is working fine but when i want to deploy this workflow in
project server 2013 online its giving error.
