Emailing Received Fax

I am able to receive faxes but can't seem to get the fax forwarded to the email address that I entered in the Print & Fax (Faxing) preference. Is there something else to do, perhaps in Mail ???
Thanks a LOT!!!

I have the same problem using my iMac G5 primarily just to receive faxes and forward them to my via email. Worked fine for years a few months ago it just stopped forwarding them.
I wrote a simple AppleScript to notify me when a fax comes in and is put in my Faxes folder. Have not been able to modify it to send the PDF fax with the email as of yet. And attached to the folder actions.
The script is below for what its worth, no guarantees but it works for me.
*on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items*
* tell application "Mail"*
* activate*
* set theNewMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {subject:"New Fax", content:"New Fax has been sent", address:"[email protected]", visible:true}*
* tell theNewMessage*
* make new to recipient at end of to recipients with properties {name:"You", address:"[email protected]"}*
* end tell*
* send theNewMessage*
* end tell*
*end adding folder items to*

  • Received faxes won't email--Solved!

    We have been using a MacPro running 10.6.8 with an external Apple 56K modem to receive incoming faxes and forwarding them to an email account, initially setup using System Preferences (faxing options to email checked). This had been working well for 4-5 years and suddenly, the faxes were no longer being emailed to the designated email account, despite being received intact in the designated folder.
    After a couple of weeks of researching apple support forums where similar problems were reported with no clear solutions, I tried the following without any success:
    1. Repair file permissions on hard drive
    2. Emptied mail caches
    3. Deleted preference plist files for SystemPreferences, PrinterFax
    4. Reset PRAM
    5. Reset Printer Services
    6. Deleted the listed fax in the Printer/Fax panel and reinstalled the external fax, entered fax settings again
    7. Used sudo to unload and reload the plist for postfix (the mail program used by the mac OS X to email from the command line)
    8. Used sudo to set postfix to OnDemand status
    Finally, I learned that there is a hidden file mail log. To see the hidden files on the mac file system, open the Terminal app in Utilities and enter the following two commands at the prompt:
    defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles ON
    killall Finder
    The second command "killall Finder" restarts the finder with the settings to view the hidden files. Go to the folder and open the log in /var/log/mail.log. In this file, I found that attempts to email the fax by postfix failed because the email was bounced by a firewall program that believed my server was serving up spam emails. The errors contained a hyperlink to the firewall. Clicking on the link, it listed the suspected offending server and an option to submit the listing as a false positive. I submitted the complaint and asked to be removed from the spam listing. Subsequent testing showed that faxes are once again being forward to my designated email account. Problem solved in this case and I hope that this helps anyone else in a similar situation.

    To get just one address in, I just clicked the address book icon in the "send email to" part of the receive options, and selected "To:" when that opened up for the address I wanted. That adds in one address in the correct format (which is something like "Addressee <[email protected]>
    When I tried to click a second email it just overwrote the first one so one I got one in I then placed the cursor in that line in the receive options and typed in the addresses between the bits separated by a comma (or was it semiclon, I forget, whatever I said in the earlier post). Seemed to work fine. You made sure the relevant boxes were ticked to send the email?
    Well as I said, I got tit to work pretty well, but it does seem a bit hit and miss doesn't it. Great once it works though, receive office faxes wherever I am, and as I get loads of spammy faxes they don't need to churn through paper. Best of luck!

  • Receiving Faxes and EMAILING them to yourself

    I have a working fax modem and I'm running Mavericks. I'm only too thrilled to be able to send/receive faxes. And I can do both, but my Mac won't properly email it to me. I have checked the "Receive faxes on this computer" and "Email To," but it's not sending them.

  • Cannot receive faxes as email

    Set Print and Fax preferences to receive and send faxes. It works! - both sending and receiving. BUT, the faxes received will not go to my email even thought I've checked it to do so. (They go to my FAX folder.) How do I get them to go to my email - so I can be notified that I have something - and delete the Junk.

    I was able to receive an email containing a pdf of received faxes. It did behave weirdly though. If I was trying to sen the notifiaction (and attached pdf) to two email addresses, A and B, it would get sent to A and B, but be shown as coming from B (which isn't me). Very strange.
    Stranger still is that I can not seem to make it save the fax to a folder. There is no sign of any folder call "faxes" or "saved faxes" anywhere on my computer.
    Pretty hit and mis really. Getting it the send faxes at al took quite some considerable time to initiate (I followed a procedure to go down an incredibly convoluted path to locate some driver or other that was required to force the USB fax to come up in the list - thanks to whoever posted that by the way).
    Any idea aboput this saving lark?

  • Fax sharing, incoming/receiving faxes not stored or forwarded per email

    I have a MM as headless server with the USB modem attached to it and set up to function as a shared fax.
    The machine refuses to receive faxes.
    The modem answers, software goes through the motions, but no fax is stored in the designated folder ‘Faxes’ (I also discovered there was no such folder even though the machine seems to think there is I have it now point to an other folder) or emailed to the forwarding address.
    Any suggestions are appreciated

    Ok 1st one. The warning restriction message relates to this line in main.cf:
    smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated  permit_mynetworks  check_helo_access hash:/etc/postfix/helo_access  reject_non_fqdn_hostname  reject_invalid_hostname  permit reject_invalid_helo_hostname
    The last reject occurs after the single word "permit" and is ignored.
    However, that's not the problem.
    I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but this might be a clue.
    It would appear that either postfix is not being able to create the socket for private/policy or it's somehow created with the wrong permissions.  You might need to ramp up the debug level to get a better idea.
    You could check if it's being created by "netstat -a | grep private/policy" in terminal.
    My guess is that it's not being created because there is no setup statement in your master.cf file, but I don't understand why postfix would be looking for it if it isn't set up.  Private/policy I think relates to grey listing.  Maybe gives you a hint.

  • 10.5.7 cannot send & receive faxes

    Using the latest version of Leopard(10.5.7) it is not possible to set your mac to RECEIVE faxes and then SEND faxes.
    So each time you want to send a fax you need to go into System Preferences, Print & Fax, choose "External Modem", click on "Receive Options", then untick "Receive Faxes" – then you can switch to the document you want to fax and print it.
    Once the fax has fully completed, you have to go back and re-tick "Receive Faxes".
    If you have Receive Faxes ticked in System Preferences when you are trying to send a fax, it causes the fax queue to hang and only a reboot can resolve the issue. Simply deleting the job from the queue does nothing.
    We are using the official Apple USB Modem and latest software in a medical clinic, so the fax is very important to us.
    Applecare has assured us the issue is being working on – who can tell when it will be resolved.
    If you are considering a mac to use in your office and need it to work as a fax, do not assume it will function as advertised.

    Thanks everyone for providing suggestions and feedback.
    We have downloaded a trial copy of PageSender but have found that when faxing documents from Microsoft Word, it is extremely slow. Sometime 5 minutes, sometimes 15 minutes, sometimes it simply never sends the fax at all and just sits in the queue.
    PageSender support is aware of the problem and seem to think it might be font related with Leopard, but I am not comfortable deleting fonts that are installed on our computer.
    FAXstf PRO also looks good, but as far as I can tell they do not offer a trial version of their software that works with Leopard. They do offer a trial, but only for Panther and Tiger.
    Since both Apple's and PageSenders fax solution do not meet the minimum requirement of being able to send & receive a fax, we will not spend money on FAXstf PRO hoping it will work.
    I have tried emailing SmithMicro to get an updated trial of their software and will let people know whether I am successful and it works as advertised.

  • Can't send a fax. I can receive fax's ok.

    I have trouble sending fax's. I can receive fax's ok. I need help to solve this problem. Thanks

    How many emails have you tried? If you have only tried one email, change the subject and it should send.
    If none will send at all open connection doctor window > connection doctor. If it won't login or find the smtp server then logging in to your account might work.

  • Receiving faxes irregularly

    Hello,
    We have a Power PC G5 Mac w/OS 10.4.8. Under 10.4.7 we were able to receive faxes all the time (when the machine was on). It worked flawlessly w/fax PDF's saved directly to the hard drive.
    Since the upgrade, we might receive one a two faxes at first, and then all others are picked up and printed by the connected fax printer during that day. Usually, though, the G5 will not pick up at all. We have not changed the fax machine, the connections, or the settings. Why have we lost consistancy? I also note that one cannot recieve faxes unles either the "Email to:" or the "Print on printer:" box is checked under fax preferences. Why is that? I am hoping someone can steer me to a simple solution here (i have looked at the linked article "10.4: Make the fax-to-email feature work better").
    Any suggestions would be appreciated...
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I don't know what help this might be, but I'm at 10.4.8, albeit on a G4, and have no problems. Here is my configuration:
    System Prefs > Print&Fax > Faxing:
    1. "Save to" checkbox is checked.
    2. Go back through the "Save to""select download folder" and choose "other folder" and reselect where you want the faxes to go, even if it is where you have already selected. It can't hurt to tell your computer again.
    3. Make sure your "Receive Faxes" checkbox is still checked.
    4. I would not exceed "answer after [5] rings." My experience has been that quite a few fax machines out there will abort their send attempt after 5 rings, so about the time you are answering, they are hanging up. This last point alone could be a likely cause for irregular receipt of some faxes, coz' I've been there, done that, and got the T-shirt.

  • Receiving faxes via voip?

    I recent set up a Vonage account so that I could send/receive faxes and I haven't been able to receive any, I've sent one though.
    I have my Print & Fax set up in System Prefs to use the internal modem and have the boxes checked for what I want, etc. but nothing is being emailed to me or saved on the hard drive and the sender gets error messages about it not getting through.
    I've been looking around online since yesterday and haven't found anything helpful.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Cassie

    I contacted Vonage "live chat" support and that person said I do not need to pay for the extra fax line and said it should be working and to send an email to their tech support which I did. Once I get an "actual" answer I'll post back here in case someone else has an issue later one.
    I really don't want to pay $35 a month so that the person I work with/for can fax things instead of scanning/emailing like she has been doing for the last couple years. lol

  • Receiving fax messages

    how do i receive fax messages using my ibook? thqanks...

    Hi Michael,
    Quote from Help (available from the menubar):
    To receive faxes, your computer must:
    Be connected to an open phone line. No one can be using the phone line to connect to the Internet or make a call.
    Not be in sleep mode.
    Your computer can still receive faxes automatically when the login window is displayed.
    1. Open System Preferences, click Print & Fax, and then click Faxing.
    2. Select "Receive faxes on this computer," and choose the number of rings before your computer answers a fax.
    If you want to receive faxes automatically, make sure your computer answers the phone before any other device that may be connected to it, such as a phone answering machine.
    If don't want to receive faxes automatically, set the number of rings to the highest number possible, and use the Fax status menu to receive faxes manually.
    3. If you want to control your computer's fax functions from the menu bar, select "Show fax status in menu bar."
    If you don't want to receive faxes automatically, you must select this option. If you receive faxes automatically, you may want to select this option so you can view status information more easily.
    4. Type your fax number in the My Fax Number field.
    This is used to identify your computer when you send or receive a fax.
    5. Choose what to do with the fax after it arrives.
    You can save it as an image file, email it to someone, and print it to a printer.
    To receive a fax manually, wait for the phone to ring, and choose Answer Now from the Fax status menu.

  • Cannot receive faxes after upgrading to 10.5.8

    Since upgrading, I cannot receive faxes on either powerbook. Sending works fine.

    I too am having this problem under 10.5.8
    Apple would appear to not know about it because they will only provide help under a warranty, Applecare or on an incident subscription basis.
    Forget the Apple help documentaion. It just suggests that you reinstall the System software. That doe not help. Been there, done that. Further documentation suggests contacting Smith Micro, the purveyors of Fax Stf. They had me look in the Applications folder to see if FaxStf was lurking there. It is not. SM say the last time that they supplied Fax software was as part of Jaguar.
    You can purchase Stf from Smith Micro for $49.00 $20.00 if you have a registered earlier version. That would have the benefit of tech support and full fax controlling options. smithmicro.com
