Embed files in EPS ...

Hi,
if I use the option to embed linked files into an EPS I want to export, -all- linked images in the current AI-Project are embedded - not only the visible ones.
How can I achieve, that only visible linked images are embedded in the eps? It would be very helpful for large projects with many files, if I only want to save a certain part or some layers into an EPS.
Thanks

It doesn't. It's just a file attachment that can be extracted and saved
locally.
If you want to merge an EPS file into a PDF that's a whole other story. I
don't think it's possible to do that without converting it to a PDF first.

  • How to save as .ai file to .eps format ??

    Hi all,
Could anyone help me out on the below problem.
I need to write a script which will save a .ai file to .eps file format and store in  to a fixed location. (Ex \\10.99.0.60\epsfile\)..
This action should happen on executing the script.
Here we don’t need to enter the file name .It will be saved to the same file name. We just have to change the extension of the file and store it to a fixed location.        Ex: when the current file name is ‘test.ai’ the output file name will be ‘test.eps’
Please help me on the abhove issue.
    thanks and Regards,
    sanat

Try this. Cut and paste into the AppleScript Script Editor Application. Save as whatever name in HD>Applications>Adobe Illustrator CS4>Presets>Scripts folder and restart.
This will open all files of the fileTypes in a folder and resave them as AICS4 files with compression and PDF compatibility. It will do a folder only not a Directory. You'll have to put in your own error handling for bad fonts. It makes all files CMYK and updates legacy text.
    -- BEGIN CODE
set fileTypes to {"EPSF", "PDF ", "ART5", "TEXT"} -- file types available to resave as Illustrator
-- get a sourceFolder that holds the files to resave as AI
set sourceFolder to (choose folder with prompt "Choose a folder with files to resave as Illustrator:") as text
-- get a list of files of the defined type in the sourceFolder
tell application "Finder" to set workingFiles to (every file of folder sourceFolder whose file type is in fileTypes) as alias list
-- now you have your fileList argument
-- get a destinationFolder to hold the PDFs
set destinationFolder to choose folder with prompt "Choose a folder to hold the Illustrator files:"
    SaveFilesAsIllustrator14(workingFiles, destinationFolder)
    on SaveFilesAsIllustrator14(fileList, destinationFolder)
set destinationPath to destinationFolder as string
        repeat with aFile in fileList
            tell application "Finder"
set fileName to displayed name of aFile -- get displayed name
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "."
set newFileName to text item 1 of fileName
set newFilePath to destinationPath & newFileName & ".ai"
            end tell
            tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
                open aFile forcing CMYK with options {update legacy text:true}
                save current document in file newFilePath as Illustrator with options {class:Illustrator save options, embed linked files:true, PDF compatible:true, font subset threshold:0.0}
                close current document saving no
            end tell
        end repeat
    end SaveFilesAsIllustrator14

  • How can I embed files of word, excel, and pdf format in a pdf document

I have a word document of the product, which I am updating for next product release. However, there are some excel, word, and pdf files embedded within a word document. When I double click these embedded files in word, these files open in a new window. However, we deliver documentation to the customer in the pdf format. Therefore, when I am converting the word document in the pdf format, only an icon of the embedded file is displayed and the files do not open in a new window. Can someone let me know how can I embed these files (in word, excel, and pdf format) in a pdf document?

You must attach them to the PDF file after it is created. You cannot embed file attachments onto a page as you can with Word.

  • Saving a file as .eps gives user an ID 5000 error on a Mac

I have a friend that is having a hard time saving files as .eps in InDesign, Illistrator and PhotoShop when using a Mac.  She is able to create the file and save it so she should have full ownership and read/write rights to the file.  Yet when she opens the file, edits it and saves it again, she gets a pop-up stating "Cannot save the illustration.  You do not have enough access privileges - ID 5000".  The user is the owner of the file.  How would she not have access privileges?  When she saves the file as an .ai, pdf, or jpg, there is no problem.  She also has no problem saving the file on a Windows PC.  What could be the problem?
    Software version :  CS6
Device: iMac, 3.75 Ghz Intel Core Duo with 8 gigs RAM
OS: OS X 10.8 with all of the latest updates

No, using EPS is narrow minded as it is an old outdated file type which does not support transparency nor color management. That means you will loose information and quality eventually. There is no reason to save as EPS today.
I just love it when these "discussions" come around and the forum isn't busy. It is sort of like driving by a train wreck—cannot stop myself from taking a peek.
Look, there are reasons for exporting to EPS even in this day and age. Ever work with people in India? Not picking on India but that is where the greatest number of requests I get for providing EPS files. Being the dumb SOB that I am, after I get turned down when I ask if a PDF or an AI file would be a better format, I just give them what they want.
And besides. Want to stop having to tell people to stop exporting to EPS format? Open a request to Adobe and tell them to stop supporting that format for both import and export. Until such time that Adobe sees the wisdom of y'alls argument in dropping that file format for both import/export, why not attempt to throw a little help in with the adamant Stop message, eh?
As for the OP...try having the user save to their local drive and move it to the server. Not a great solution, but it usually works.

  • Embed files not in memory?

Is it possible to embed files into flash projector that will
not be loaded into memory immediately after executing exe file?
I need it to copyprotect my CD-ROM. Idea - there will be 100
MB MP3-file inside flash projector. This MP3 will actually never be
played. I will make some unreadable sectors to CD-ROM in areas
    where that MP3 resides.
Projector should play fine but it is not possible to copy the
    whole exe file.

I need to reboot my Mac to get rid of these 'Ghost Folders'.
I had a look in the /volumes folder and saw ghost folders for each of the several
audio CDs that I had imported since the previous night's backup. I restarted and
    they went away
I'm not sure you are describing the same issue. The "ghost folders" in /Volumes discussed here earlier are real folders - they do not have "alias" icons, they take up physical space on the boot HD, and they do not disappear on re-booting - they have to be manually deleted.
In order to be sure you are starting from a "clean" /Volumes folder, take a look there when no external volumes or shares are connected at all - all you should see there is a single alias icon to your startup HD.
I'm not aware of any particular issue regarding Snow Leopard that would make it more susceptible to the creation of extraneous real folders in /Volumes. That problem has been around for years, particularly when using cloning software, and in fact it led years ago to a special page on the Carbon Copy Cloner support forum on how to deal with "false clones." With regard to prevalence, my subjective impression is that I haven't noticed any great increase in people reporting this problem, but that's certainly not good evidence one way or the other. With regard to cause, it seems to happen most commonly when the target volume of a copy operation becomes functionally disconnected before the copying is complete. It apparently happens at other times also, however, for unknown reasons.

  • How can I save a file as eps in Photoshop Elements 11?

I would like to save a jpg file as EPS using Photoshop Elements 11 but EPS does not appear as an option in the drop down list of available file formats.  Looking through the Elements 11 help pages it clearly lists EPS as an available file format and explains that it can be selected from the drop down list when using 'save as'.  Why does it not appear to be an option?

If  you have acrobat in a newer version you could file >> reduce file size
Otherwise you coudl print to .ps file and upload that to an Online service to makes PDFs

  • Issues exporting gradients from Illustrator CS5 files to EPS 8

Hello everyone, I'm having problems exporting illustrator files to EPS, mainly with gradients that aren't rendering properly. These fills are appearing as small sliced objects rather than complete shapes. Any advice?
    Thanks!

Illustrator 8 is over a decade old. I expect that Adobe has significantly changed the way gradients are saved in Illustrator files since version 8. So, in order to preserve the appearance of the gradient Illustrator just expands it, rather than continuing to support a legacy format that’s so old. This is unfortunate but understandable.
Perhaps there are other options. Why are you saving as an Illustrator 8 EPS file? Surely you are not sending the file to someone who has no more recent version than 8? If the file is not meant for use exclusively with Adobe Illustrator 8 then it will be converted to some other format when the person you are sending it to opens it. When that happens, expect the gradient to be converted anyway.
My point is I doubt this Illustrator 8 EPS file will need to be edited, so it doesn’t matter that the gradient is expanded.

  • Help Needed - Embed File in Projector

Hi All - Hope someone can help.
I have a project where I need to create a catalogue. The end
projector will be downloaded and has to contain a pre formatted
exel spreadsheet which when the user clicks an order now button,
the spreadsheet will be launched externally in exel where he/she
    can fill in their orders.
I have this working using Buddy API but this means having two
files to download and they have to be in the same location. To keep
things as simple as possible I have been asked to embed the file in
    the projector.
I've been searching the web for a couple of days now but can
find no solution. I found Smart OLE Xtra which sounded like it
might be what I'm looking for, however, it appears to only
available for the PC and I'm using a Mac.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks in advance.

I also am using Jeode's VM, and faced with the same challenge of transferring files from a barcode scanner connected to the PC via a USB cradle.
Unfortunately, there's no easy way to transfer the files directly to the PC using Java on the PDA device. The problem is that Java needs a network connection in order to transfer the files, which the USB cradle does not supply (uses a serial USB connection to communicate to the PC). Unless you can physically address the USB cradle from Java you cannot transfer the files. One way to possibly overcome this is to try addressing the USB cradle from the PC (maybe by Windows specific API calls using JNI) and 'pull' the files from the PDA in the cradle. Not a simple proposition.
What I ended up doing was utilizing ActiveSync on the PC and PDA. Part of the setup of the PDA was to specifically name the device with a known name, so that the ActiveSync shared folder could be referenced from both the PDA and PC. Copying files to the shared folder on the PDA automatically synchronized the files to the PC, and vice-versa.
Not very elegant, but the quickest way to move files back and forth...

  • Cinema 4D Lite & Illustrator Files .ai / .eps

I'm trying to import a logo that I've made as an Illustrator file, into the C4D Lite app bundled with After Effects CC.
But I can't make it work.
I don't have the full C4D program, but all the online guidance suggests saving the .ai file as a v8 .eps will produce a file that C4D (full version) can read.
This doesn't seem to work for C4D lite. Is there another way to get the .ai into C4D Lite, or is this something that Adobe/Maxon have held back, to encourage me to fork out for the full version?
    Hope somebody can help

Stumbled across this post while trying to find out if I can export an .obj from C4D Lite. Don't think that's possible but I do know how to get illustrator files into lite.
When saving your logo out of illustrator you have to save it as an Illustrator 8 version. After clicking save you'll see this option in the illustrator options dialog box that pops up, click on version and scroll down to 8 and your all set. You can drag that right into C4D Lite.

  • Placing InDesign files vs. eps

We produce teaching materials where we have to illustrate the page from another document (i.e. "Hand out this page to the students").
Last year we created endless eps files from the InDesign docs, only to create headaches when last minute changes were made (or errors discovered).
This year, we were delighted to discover we can place the "live" InDesign pages. The time saved! The proofreading headaches solved!
However, our printer is saying "no!" - we must stick with eps production.
We can't change printers (long story of contracts, grants, etc).
How can we educate our printers? What is the argument or proof or information that they need to let us improve our workflow tremendously?
    Thank you!

    >Perhaps it'll work better in CS4.
The only problems I know of had to do with images in the placed InDesign document being chopped up into 1 MB chunks. That was fixed in either 5.0.1 or 5.0.2.
That, of course, has nothing to do with convincing the printer that it is a safe methodology. Since you cannot change printers, I would do whatever you can to get this printer to test it out, and hopefully change their mid. Surely they have some interest in keeping you happy (I hope)...

  • Try to save .ai file as EPS it says "Can't save the illustration. Can't print the illu

    Windows 8. Adobe Illustrator CS6
I create an illustration and saved it as an .ai file.  Now that I'm ready, I want to save it as an EPS file, but a window pops up saying "Can't save the illustration. Can't print the illustration." I tried saving it under older formats, doesn't work.  Help!

I don't think it is a Win8 issue per se. I export to EPS from both CS5.1 and CS6 on Windows 8 64-bit. It may well be a user account issue or the CS6 installation itself.
Try creating a new user account on the Win 8 computer and try it. Only takes a few minutes with the reboot.

  • Converting .docx files to .eps and keeping the text editable (not outlines)?

I'm trying to batch convert a number of .docx files that each contain figures that have been created in Word (boxes, lines etc) in Acrobat 9 Pro to .eps.
I can create an .eps, using the document processing (batch processing) route, but when I open the files in Illustrator CS5 all of the editable text in the document has been converted to outlines. Ideally, I want to keep the text in the figure editable (and to create a slightly smaller file size)
I have checked the convert from PDF settings for Encapsulated PostScript and it shows 'Convert Text to Outlines' as false, the transparency settings have also been setup not to convert to outlines), can anyone help?

My thinking behind doing it via Acrobat 9 Pro was that I could take say 20 .docx files and via the document process function automatically convert them straight to .eps without having to make the PDF first. I also find using this route that I have an .eps that is already cropped to the four edges of the images (with no hidden characters making the image frame larger than the actual four edges of the figure).
When I import a PDF into Illustrator, I find that I'm getting the end of paragraph (hidden) markers from Word appearing (normally at the end of the image in Word, and some also appear before the figure where the author has hit return a few times). I then have to manually remove them so that the artboard fits to the four edges of the image. I guess I'm just trying to save a little time without having to go back into 20+ files and tidy them up by removing this character.

  • SMB and EPS Files (all files have .eps extensions)

    HI All,
We've turned off Appleshare on our Microsoft SBS Server and have all our mac clients connecting via SMB - previews of folders within apps is now much much faster and we can now have longer file names.
However, all of our eps images are screwed. They all have file extensions but Illustrator cannot import them or re-link them. If we open them in Photoshop and re-save them, then Illustrator can link to them.
But we have thousands of eps images and using a batch process action is painful as Photoshop can't determine the difference between a vector eps and a photoshop eps before it opens them (as far as we can tell) - so we have to manually choose which eps files to open.
It would be easier and safer if we could just fix whatever is wrong with the server - does anyone have any suggestions?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

"It would be easier and safer if we could just fix whatever is wrong with the server - does anyone have any suggestions?"
    Um, turn Appleshare back on.
No, seriously, though, it's this Microsoft "Services For Macintosh" (aka Appleshare) feature that allows your Macs to connect to the server and "see" the files on it properly. Let's take an .eps file as an example. On the Mac, the single file contains a resource fork-based preview icon, the data fork holding the EPS data, a file type of 'EPSF' (EPS file), and a creator code of 'ART5' (Adobe Illustrator). Ordinarily, a PC-formatted disk only has room for, and understands, the data fork information and the filename; the rest would be lost if it wasn't dealt with in some way. The way Microsoft's "Services For Macintosh" deals with it then, is that, when a Mac writes a file to the server over the network, what would be a single Mac file, is split up into 4 separate NTFS "streams". One stream is the main one, which contains the data fork information and filename. The other three hold the small amount of special "Mac" information.
Now, if you have the server up and running as SMB, and the Mac connects to the server as SMB, you will only see one of the parts/streams of the original file. The special Mac information that's saved in the other 3 streams isn't combined with the primary stream to make the file "appear" properly, like it does when you have Microsoft "Services For Macintosh" running and connect the Macs to the server over AFP.
I can gather that performance with the Microsoft "Services For Macintosh" is relatively poor compared to that of SMB. If you'd like to switch over to SMB, you can carefully follow the following procedure to make the switch over.
Let's say your sever has 40 GB of files on it. At the moment, if you connect your Mac to the server over SMB, the files appear improperly. So, instead, find a Mac with a lot of free space on the local hard drive, and connect to the server over AFP (and have the server running AppleShare/Services For Macintosh), so that the files "appear" properly. From the Mac, copy all of the 40 GB worth of files over to the Mac's local hard drive. Then disconnect the Mac from the server. Adjust the server so that it is no longer running AppleShare/Services For Macintosh, and from the same Mac, connect to the server over SMB. Again, if you look at the original files on the server, they will appear improper; this is normal. From the Mac, create a new folder on the server, separate from the original folder holding the original 40 GB worth of files. Name it something like "Server Files (SMB)". Then, from the Mac, copy the 40 GB worth of files that you saved to the local hard drive into that "Server Files (SMB)" folder on the server. After you've finished copying them and you look at them from this Mac, you'll notice that these files should appear "correctly".
Now, if you continue to have the AppleShare/Services For Macintosh shut off, and you connect other Macs to the server (via SMB), they should be able to see the files in the "Server Files (SMB)" folder correctly. Basically, you would no longer use the original 40 GB of files, and instead, use the ones inside the "Server Files (SMB)" folder, which will appear properly to the connected Macs.
    Hope this helps....
