the video is using an external skin swf file that displays
the controls; you can see the skin there:

The skin is linked to the movie from within the movie
actionscript.
You don't have that skin file on your site, hence the
controls are not showing.
If you have Flash version 8, you can create the same skin by
importing any quicktime video in Flash
(preferably a small one, that will save you some time), and
choosing the following skin:
SteelExternalAll.swf
(that's the skin they're using).
Flash will generate the skin file. Then just upload
SteelExternalAll.swf to your server, in the same
directory your movie is.

Flash video embed question

I'm using "insert flash video" in DW8. I noticed that it puts
the skin and progressive swf files in the same folder as the page.
I'd like to move these files to a different folder. I was hoping I
could just do the "drag and drop" and it would update all the files
to know what has been moved. But that didn't seem to work. Any idea
if you can have the other files in a different folder? Does any one
know what code would need to be changed so it knows the new path?

Vimeo Embed Question

Hello,
Okay, so I have a vimeo movie I embedded on my web page through iWeb. I simply paste the embed code into an HTML snippet. I want to know why my video is 16x9 but is appearing on my web page as a letterboxed 4x3?

Embed question - play one movie after another

I am trying to figure out how to play a short 10 second clip before each movie on my website. The clip may be a short ad or a promo and will depend upon the content of the main video. What is the code that enables you to play one move after another in a web page. I don't want to edit the two clips to become one cos over time the ads and promos will change. In Realplayer I remember using SMIL but how is it done in QT. I will eventually write code to write out the Embed tag but now i am just experimenting. Here is what my drupal site puts out

Embed the initial movie clip as normal, but give it an HREF property.
Set the source for the HREF to be the next movie, set autohref=true, and set target="myself". It's the same technique you use to build a poster movie but (a) instead of having the poster movie open QT Player, you have its target open in its own frame and (b) instead of waiting for a user to click the poster, you have the poster movie "click itself".
Code that I used a very long time ago to display a "Loading..." graphic as a movie loaded (waste of effort, actually, as the movie is fast start and loads very fast):

Non-DME live event - Embed question

Hello Netpros,
Is there any chance to receive the embed code (as in the VoD) for the non-dme live events?
I have tried to manipulate the embed code from a random VoD and i have replaced the ccsid url to the one of the desired non-dme live event. Then, i have embedded this code to wepage, the player is visible but the stream is not.
Maybe the only way is to use a 3rd party video player when embedding non-dme events?
Any thoughts?

* What type of DME are you using?
* What is connected to the DME providing the LIVE stream?
* Specifically, how do you have the DME configured for your setup?
* Please provide the SCREEN CAPTUREs of your DME configuration on
the SNS
* Have you configured a "Basic" configuration (single channel\port only) on the DME
and SNS with 5.2.1 and have it working? Have you ever got the DME working with SnS 5.2.1

Custom Flashplayer embed questions

I am currently working on a custom flash player. After
working on several working versions where I simply used
actionscript to delegate the actions of my custom player.
I am now working on a more dynamic ready flashplayer that
will need to be embeddable. Should I make a .swf specificaly for
the player using the flash player SkinFLA examples as an outline?
The idea is to have a player that embeds like youtube, any
suggestions or tutorials to look over? Also, this player needs to
have playlist functionality, but it needs to be able to scope to
anyone. I could have users register and then create an XML that
references their playlist, but it seems like there may be better
options. Just looking for some discussion and debate over player
best-practices....

If your custom device is an inline custom device you may update only dedicated channels per iteration.
In case of a asynchronous (parallel) custom device, you are forced to write always the entire stack of channels no matter what happend to the values. (if none of the values have changed, then it is ok to not call the FIFO Write function).
The FIFO Write doesn't cause a huge overhead.
You can easily benchmark that yourself though.

I would like to embed interactive widgets in iBooks using iBookAuthor. The widgets in question started life in Java but GWT has allowed them to be converted to javascript and to run on web pages (for example, http://softoption.us/content/node/437 scroll to the bottom). In theory, iBookAuthor can bring in most html5, and much javascript. The technique is to wrap the html in a folder, with 2 extra files, a plist and a default png and then change the extension of the folder to ‘.wdgt’. This is the technique for making Dashboard widgets for the Mac, and Apple even have the Dashcode software to do it. So what you really do is to make a Dashboard widget, then iBookAuthor can import it. So far, so good. And some folk have been doing this, for example http://www.prweb.com/releases/2012/2/prweb9242432.htm http://www.panophoto.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=10417&p=158330#p158423 However, if you start with GWT and create a single page with one button and a Hello World, compile it, and get the WAR file (I use Eclipse here)… the Safari browser and others will run it properly (even on an iPad). Then if you wrap it, a proper Dashboard widget is created, which runs properly on a Mac. Then if you go to iBookAuthor and put a custom widget in the Text, then drag it in. It is accepted by the text and shown as being there. However, if you use Preview to look at it on an iPad, it is gone (or was never there in the first place). Anyone any ideas on this? I do have a little to add, which might help someone. Indeed, opening a blank page and dragging the widget straight in seems good in difficult cases. But, actually, I was also able to insert successfully from the Toolbar especially to blank pages. So, it may have been something to do with the columns and stuff like that. Anyway back then the insertion would show in iBooks Author but not in the Preview on the iPad. I moved on to actual Google Web Toolkit output javascript. Basically I had three at hand to try: a Hello World with a button which went straight it, one of moderate complexity, (for example with a built in Lisp interpreter), which also went straight in, and finally a more complex one that initially was rejected by iBook Author. Author complained that there was an unsupported media file (of course, Author does not tell you which one it is, that would be too easy). [Remember, this was a proper working Dashboard widget which could be installed on a Mac]. Among other things I had read remarks about .gif files. When looking through the GWT war directory at the actual javascript etc files, I noticed there were two gifs there one called ‘clear.cache.gif ‘ and a second one called ‘0F89659FF3F324AE4116F700257E32BD.cache.gif’. (Now, there is obfuscation so the numbers here may be different from case to case.) The clear.cache.gif did not seem to be anything special. But the other one is an animation. It is three little boxes that twinkle (rather like a waiting spinning cursor). So, I opened that file and saved it to itself (that picks the top frame of the animation and saves only that, leaving you with an unanimated gif). The resulting widget drags and drops into iBooks Author (and seems to work properly at a quick glance). So, if you are having trouble with ‘unsupported media files’ converting animated gifs into unanimated gifs might help in some cases.

There is an option of embedding index for faster search while converting email to a PDF .
However I am not sure that will serve your purpose or not .
I would recommend you to get in touch with Microsoft support as well .
Meanwhile I'll work on it and get back to you in case I get a desired solution .

I should clarify that both of those examples are working on my machine. However, on another machine only the top example showed up at the bottom example caused 404 errors as it was trying to load expressInstall.swf which wasn't in the directory.
This confused me as I wondered if there was any detriment to just having all my swf on my site integrated using the top method?
I didn't write the bottom example and I don't really understand it fully. I'm not sure whether my best move is to just convert everything to the top example or whether I should try and find a copy of "expressInstall.swf" and try and get the bottom example working on this other machine?
Which is the correct way?

Font embed and PDF optimizer question

using Quark 7, Acrobat 8 professional, non-intel mac OS10.4.11. According to the quark dialog, the fonts are imbedded. When I look in PDF optimizer, the fonts don't show up. Does this mean they were never imbedded? Also, when I save a file as PDF optimized I get a zero kb figure in the finder panel. Is this correct?

Although you may have embedding turned on, Doesn't necessarily mean That fonts are embedded. Only fonts that allowed to be embedded, are those from Adobe, plus other font houses that have agreements with Adobe to allo it. If your trying to embed MicroSoft Fonts. Forget it it They share nothing with anyone. And The chace of it happening are about like the old say saying The chances of it happening are *Slim* and *None* *and Slim just left town*.
Also if you receive a PDF form someone else. They may have run through Optimizer to reduce the size and removed all instances of Embedded font.
If you use common fonts between windows and Apple say for example Ariel There should only be subtle differences in the look of the PDF if you have use system fonts turned on.

Embed .swf question

I have a flash .swf file inwhich I embed into my flex
application. In the flex application I have a login. In the flash
file i have buttons which control the navigation of the flash file.
I want to validate if the user is logged in before allowing the
buttons to work. Is this possible?

If you flash SWF is a SWF9 then you will be able to
communicate in a function-call fashion as if the flash SWF is a
component. Using SWFLoader, the content child is the flash SWF.
If you are using a SWF8 or anything earlier, you will need to
use LocalConnection. The reason is the SWF9 is ActionScript 3, just
like Flex, and they reside in the same Flash Player VM (virtual
machine). SWF8 and earlier are ActionScript 2 and must run in a
different virtual machine; this makes it possible for Flash Player
9 to play all previous Flash content.
LocalConnection allows for one-way communication between any
two Flash Players (or VMs).

Embed images in CFMAIL .. question / confusion

Well, I'm running CFMX 6.1, and when trying to embed images
into CFMAIL, I'm
getting:

Ok, so I can't stand YouTube and I've found many other video
'hosting' places where random ads would be shown after my video on
my website.
I want to be able to embed the video on my page, and I was
told about this link with the code to do it. It worked GREAT in
Internet Explorer, I was able to figure out how to change the file
names, etc....

I have heard about Firefox Extensions, but I don't want to
add something onto my firefox, because I am not worried about ME

Do I need to put some type of coding on my page so that it
will be compatible with firefox??? I am so lost.
I noticed at the bottom page of the site it says
"For maximum browser compatibility this method uses two tags:
* <object> For Internet Explorer.
* <embed> For Firefox etc."
What does this mean?? I don't understand at all how to make
it work in firefox.

Question about controlling embed quicktime object with javascript

Hello,
I am using javascript to control an embedded quicktime object on my website a la http://www.protofunc.com/2008/02/01/controlling-embedded-video-with-javascript-p art-i-quicktime/ .
The problem I am having is with the movie.Stop() command. When I hit the pause button on the generic controller, it freezes the current frame. When I call the Stop() command, the movie goes white until it is resumed. Does the pause button do anything more than call "Stop()"?

fyi:
i switched from SWF files to QuickTime H264, and have been trying to use the QuickTime/File/Save For Web feature on my movie promo web site.. all the movies play choppy on computers (desktops and laptops), but the technique works well on iPhones and iPads.. it is a bit unfair, IMHO, that apple can make trailers work so smooth on trailers.apple.com, but using their technology does not seem to work for "the rest of us"..
any web sites other than apple that can help?
