Embedded HTTP Server Logging
WebLogic's embedded HTTP server seems to buffer requests prior to dumping them to a log file. Documentation in previous releases indicated that this behavior could be controlled, however those options are missing from the current Oracle releases. How can I control the buffering of messages to the access.log file? I want to be able to watch requests in real-time as they are received by the server.
Hi,
Http Log Buffers improves the performance of the Server...still if you want to see the real time data at the same moment then you can try tuning the "*Log Buffer Size*".
This attribute can be controlled from MBean: weblogic.management.configuration.WebServerMBean...which has Log Buffer Size attribute. The default value of this Attribute is "8 KB" ... Maximum value can be assigned upto "1024KB"....In your case if you want to see the immediate data then you can set it to "0 KB".

Embedded HTTP server in weblogic vs OHS
Hi,
I have installed EPM. Along with it weblogic is installed. I forget to install OHS so weblogic is using it's own HTTP server.
I have some questions related to embedded server vs OHS.
1 - Will embedded HTTP Server will work as fine as OHS?
2 - Is there any speed difference between 2 servers?
3 - I am having a lot of unusual issues, could it be due to embedded HTTP server?
RegardsHi there JanGLi,
your question is rather architectural than technical.
The use of OHS should be dictated by your environment topology.
1 - Will embedded HTTP Server will work as fine as OHS?
Sure. WLS is designed and can work standalone, i.e. without requiring
OHS in front.
2 - Is there any speed difference between 2 servers?
Though I have NOT done any stress tests to compare OHS vs WLS in serving
content, I expect the OHS to better serve static content, i.e. images,
JS, css, etc.
I would say that OHS is required when you are running web based
applications distributed among several DMZ's where OHS should be in your
Internet zone and WLS in the application server zone. You can also
offload WLS from SSL, i.e. you can configure OHS to handle the SSL
communication and leave the WLS to do its job - running JEE components.
3 - I am having a lot of unusual issues, could it be due to embedded
HTTP server?
In your case I doubt that the problems you are experiencing with EPM are
due to the lack of OHS in front. If your are more specific in the issues
you are facing I (or someone else in the community) might be able to
help you.
Hope this helps,

Many "oc4j_socket_recvfull timed out" messages in Oracle HTTP Server log
Hello everyone,
We are using OAS 10.1.3.1 and see many messages in the Oracle HTTP Server log as follows. ipAddress and myOASInstance are used below to replace the actual values with what is conceptually present there in the log file.
Mon Jan 5 15:39:44 2009 warn client ipAddress oc4j_socket_recvfull timed out
Mon Jan 5 15:39:44 2009 error client ipAddress ecid: 1231198482:ipAddress:24569:0:36247,0 mod_oc4j: request to OC4J myOASInstance:12502 failed: recv
failed (errno=4)
Mon Jan 5 15:39:48 2009 warn client ipAddress oc4j_socket_recvfull timed out
Mon Jan 5 15:39:48 2009 error client ipAddress ecid: 1231198487:ipAddress:1860:0:135,0 mod_oc4j: request to OC4J myOASInstance:12502 failed: recv failed (errno=4)
Mon Jan 5 15:39:51 2009 warn client ipAddress oc4j_socket_recvfull timedout
Mon Jan 5 15:39:51 2009 error client ipAddress ecid: 1231198343:ipAddress:1717:0:31,0 mod_oc4j: request to OC4J myOASInstance:12502 failed: recv failed (errno=4)
Mon Jan 5 15:39:52 2009 warn client ipAddress oc4j_socket_recvfull timed out
Mon Jan 5 15:39:52 2009 error client ipAddress ecid: 1231198343:ipAddress:1680:0:101,0 mod_oc4j: request to OC4J myOASInstance:12502 failed: recv failed (errno=4)
Is anyone aware of what these warning/error messages indicate and what course(s) of action should be considered to remedy the issue?
Thanks,
DougIn mod_oc4j.conf, turn Oc4jCacheSize 0 : When setting Oc4JCachesize 0 in mod_oc4j.conf, this will force connection closure
and avoid socket saturation in machines, as each connection will be opened, then after the connection ends, it will be closed.
This means new request will need new connection and will not recycle existing connection.
Also set Oc4jConnTimeout 55 : It has to be less than firewall idle timeout which is 60 sec usually.
So that the OC4J connection is dropped by itself before the firewall drops it. This is in seconds and should be smaller than
the Firewall timeout, if any.
Hope this will help you.

XML Database HTTP Server Log files
I'm using Oracle 10g Express with Apex 4.0 and need to take a look at what would be the Apache error and access logs. Does anyone know how to access them?
Hi,
I'm not quite sure , but I think EPG do not produce that kind logs by default.
Something you can see from listener.log and other database logs.
This blog post might help

Embedded http server problem with port 80
Hello Guys/Gals,
I have just installed the latest version of Oracle XE and APEX on redhat linux. I am trying to get rid of the 8080 port in my url. So I am trying to change my port to 80. I logged into pl/sql as system - exec dbms_xdb.sethttpport('80'); that seems to run fine. If I look at my lsnrctl status - I do not see the line for it listening on port 80 like it does when it's set to port 8080? I changed the owner of lsnrctl to root? I read that in an article to set port < 1024? Can someone please help me out. I am sure it's a permission thing but I can't figure it out. By the way everything works fine when the port is set to 8080 but???
Thanks,
DanUpdate I belive I got it to work. Here is what I think I did to make it work.
chown root:root $ORACLE_HOME/bin/tnslsnr
chmod 4755 tnslsnr
I logged into sqlplus as system -
exec dbms_xdb.sethttpport('80');
Then added the following line to the $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora LISTENER section
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dpmsurf)(PORT = 80))
(PROTOCOL_STACK = (PRESENTATION = HTTP) (SESSION = RAW))
the stopped and started the listner
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl stop
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start
Now I can run with out putting the port in the url .
Thanks,

Disabling logging of HEAD request in HTTP web server logs
Hi,
I would like to stop the logging of HEAD requests in my HTTP server logs. I was thinking of using the Rewrite rule, however, there may be a more direct way of doing this. Is there a configuration setting within HTTP Server to do this?
I'm using WebTier component of Weblogic 10.3.2.
Thanks,I found the solution to disable HEAD requests.

Or I guess a related question is what version of apache comes with the latest App Server Patch Set (10.1.3.4.0)?
We are running OAS 10.1.3.3.x and we are having issues with URLs that end in a number but which have query parameters at the end.
E.g. http://<stuff_here>/1?type=table&format=html
The URLs come from REST-ful GET operations. It seems like the HTTP server just ignores the query parameters completely.
When we run against stand-alone OC4J which includes an embedded HTTP server, such URLs work as expected.
We are hoping that perhaps the latest patch set for the full Oracle Application Server 10g will overcome this issue.
But if we need to move to a later Oracle HTTP Server (like the one that comes as an option for the Oracle 11g database installation) we would be willing to do so.
Comments related to this are welcome.
Thanks
JimHi,
Does anyone have experiece getting Apex working with secured BI publisher?
The error I am getting when PDF printing from Apex to BI pub is:
"ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.
Error failed
OK "
Please note, network services in 11G are already configured; thus I am able to print from Apex to non-secured BI pub.
Thanks,

Configuring Apache HTTP Server with Oracle Weblogic Server plugin
Hello friends,
I have a scenario of OIM 9.1.0.2 on Oracle Application Server 11g and Weblogic Server Apache HTTP Server.
Oracle WebLogic Server is configured in cluster (node1 and node2), also use the Oracle Weblogic Server plugin for integration with Apache.
One of the tests is to lose one of the nodes for the apache plugin redirects the node that has less overhead.
When the mode is node1 and node2 stop start mode and try to access the management console of Oracle Identity Manager, the plugin sometimes redirects to the other active node, and on another occasion shows the oracle management console identity manager without the colors of the basic look and feel.
Deputy of the Apache HTTP Server log, do you expect your comments to solve this case?

This is somewhat strange, do you have session binding turned off?

This could happen due to mime types (not really sure just a hunch). Here is a general story on this concept: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Properly_Configuring_Server_MIME_Types

Web Service and Oracle HTTP Server
I have a web environment with Oracle Database 10.2.0.3 , oracle http server (using mod_plsql), Oracle pl/sql web toolkit. I need to create a web service that is accessed externally which will interact with the database (select, insert, delete). Is it possible to publish a web service to the Oracle Http Server or to implement web services with the environment above
Hello,
In RDBMS 10g you cannot directly expose WS from the DB you need to use the OracleAS Web Service Runtime to do it, following this documentation:
- Developing Web Services that Expose Database Resources
This is true if we are talking about "tooling/runtime/API" but after all Web Services are mainly XML (WSDL and SOAP) so it is still possible to create by hands (PL/SQL & static files) but it is probably a long work depending of the complexity of your services.
Also, in RDBMS 11, you can now directly expose WS from the DB using the embedded HTTP server, see this Oracle 11g New Features Document
Note that before taking one approach you must take time to write up your requirement regarding Web Services eg: do I need security, which time of encoding, interoperability, ..., ... For example WS-Security that is the standard to secure SOAP messages is not (yet) supported by the Oracle 11g RDBMS Native Web Services... where when you do use the WS-Runtime you can secure the Web Service..

HTTP server is failed to start while configuring ssl
Hi,
I'm trying to configure my Apache to use ssl in order to activate secured web service. Still I have a problem to configure the apache to cooperate
I've added to mod_oc4j the following lines:
Oc4jEnableSSL on
Oc4jSSLWalletFile ../../../ORCA_WALLETS/ias/ewallet.p12
Oc4jSSLWalletPassword welcome
and from that point I get
/home/ias/v10.1.2/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl start: execing httpd
on restart, and the http-server remains down.
Any ideas anyone? So the apache start line is from your HTTP Server log then I assume?
A few more questions:
What setup are you using (inf and mid tier on same server?)
Also, Is your repository DB up and is your listener running?
Some more details will help narrow down the possible issues.
Thanks,

Logging into APEX through Oracle XML DB HTTP Server and Embedded PL/SQL
Hi,
I have just finished installing Apex 3.0 on RHEL 4. I am not using HTTP Server, but Embedded PL/SQL. When I go to the page administrator page http://host:8080/pls/apex/apex_admin a prompt pops up and when I give the username as "admin" and the password then it doesn't log me in. I ran the apxconf.sql script and reset the admin password and it is still not letting me log in.
Please adviseUnfortunately, using the pl/sql gateway is not yet supported. The documentation should be more clear about that.
You'll need to use the HTTP server.

Virtual Directory Change from Oracle HTTP Server to Embedded PL/SQL Gateway
We finally upgraded from htmldb 1.6 to ApEx 3.1.2 late last year. This was in conjunction with setting up a new server and installing Oracle 11g DB, while our production DB is still 10g. During this install, I opted for the Embedded PL/SQL Gateway, whereas our htmldb is running with the Oracle HTTP Server.
During the conversion of one of our applications I learned that Virtual Directory references to #IMAGE_PREFIX# are no longer valid for custom CSS so I had to change an entry in the page templates that I'm using to use #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#. Now I am importing another application from our htmldb 1.6 environment to our ApEx 3.1.2 environment, and I have a new problem that I think is related.
In this application we have been uploading report files for outside users to be able to download at their convenience. I think the upload is working OK, but when I try to download the report file I get the following:
Not found
The requested URL /apex/IMR.ofile was not found on this server.
The download is accomplished with a link on an SQL Report region. The Column Link info is:
Link Text = <img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#edit_big.gif" border="0" alt="Icon 1">
Target = URL
URL = #OWNER#.ofile?p_file=#VIEW_REPORT#&v_auth=&APP_USER.
When I change the Link Text to <img src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#edit_big.gif" border="0" alt="Icon 1"> I lose the Edit Icon image. However, what I'm really concerned about is the URL not found error
Now, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, so if the problem isn't related to virtual directories, which tree should I be barking up?
Any suggestion?
Thanks,
GregoryIs the IMR.ofile a custom package for downloading files? If so, you might need to add it to the wwv_flow_epg_include_mod_local function.
I am not certain how this function also plays into the embedded pl/sql gateway, but do know it would affect this running through Oracle HTTP server when configured with the before proc.
With the embedded gateway it may very well be that you need to add this package into the ACL for outside availability. -

Can you run Embedded PL/SQL Gateway and Oracle HTTP Server at the same time
Hi,
I know this will sound a bit odd but their is a business case for asking this. Can you run APEX via the Embedded PL/SQL Gateway and the Oracle HTTP Server at the same time? Would their be any security/stability/etc issues I'd need to worry about? I know that I'll need to run them on different ports.
Thank you,
Martin Giffy D'Souza
[http://apex-smb.blogspot.com/]I think I've done this in the past. Theres no technical reason why you can't do this as far as I know.
I can't remember if I used different ports or same port.
