Embedding a series of stop points in a timeline

I have Flash 8 running on Windows XP. I’m just learning
to use it. I’ve been through the training from Total Training
and I’ve completed a successful project. Now I want to do
something more with the project and I don’t know how to
proceed.
I want to embed a series of checkpoints in the timeline. Then
I want to create a button called “Step” that, when
clicked, will play the movie up to the next checkpoint, then stop.
Click “Step” again and you resume the movie at that
point and stop at the next checkpoint. This will let me step
through the movie and have it pause it at predetermined points.
Thanks for any input.

I'm with ya.

Sure you can. :)

Okay, sounds like a good use for a variable.
> Further ideas?
Create a variable in frame 1.
var doPausing:Boolean = false;
Then check that variable in later frames to see if you
should do the
pausing or not. For example, where you might currently have a
stop() action
on frame 20, change it to this ...
if (doPausing == true) {
stop();
Or, shorthand ...
if (doPausing) {
stop();
It just means that the main timeline will only obey the
stop() if that
variable's value is true. Use your buttons to set it true or
false.
// Play button
btnPlay.onRelease = function() {
doPausing = false;
gotoAndPlay( whatever frame to start on );
// Play with pauses
btnPlayWithPauses.onRelease = function() {
doPausing = true;
gotoAndPlay( whatever frame to start on );

  • Will AIR run on Windows Embedded Enterprise series?

    Hello.
    I found the following information in the Adobe forum, but was not able to find useful information.
    In my expectations, I believe in the Windows Embedded Enterprise series (example:Windows 7 pro for embedded system),
    because there is fully compatible with the desktop OS, AIR also work.

  • Adding stop points; complete newbie question

    I like to download lectures from the internet. they come in as one long file. If I take them into Garageband can I add stop points every 10 minutes or so? I want to be able to make a CD with those stop points so it is easier to go back and forth to different points in the lecture.
    Richard

    you can add markers by showing the podcast track, then when you burn it to CD with GB you'll be able to jump to the different points.
    (for more info search for "marker" in GB's help")

  • Ken Burns start and stop points

    In iMovie, when using the Ken Burns effect how can I set the start and stop points to be the same? I don't want to just use "Crop" because my understanding is that using the Ken Burns effect will result in a clearer still photo.

    The renderer that is used when the Ken Burns effect is on does give a clearer still photo when converted to video. On an older version of iMovie I could set the startpoint and then use a key-sequence that was a shortcut to set the endpoint to be the same as the startpoint. I was hoping there was a similar feature with the newer version of iMovie. Then I wouldn't have to adjust the start and stop rectangles for a 100 photos.

  • How do I make a final stop point?

    My half hour video publishes at over one hour.  I think it is because cannot remove excess blank time at end of the timeline. How do I make a stop point?  (The clip tool doesn't work at the end.)

    I tried a couple of case combinations, and this one seems the most solid.  Still, the while loop is not passing information.

  • Previewing edits and start/stop points

    OK, so I'm still new to this program (I've worked with ProTools and Cakewalk, but this is a bit different), so please bear with me. I'm trying to sample and adjust the different plugins for a track, but I'm running into trouble on two different fronts, thus two different questions:
    1. Is there any way for me to preview any adjustments I make to the plugins before I implement them into the automation? That way, if I feel like something is wrong, I can simply re-adjust without having to rewrite the automation?
    2. How do I select specific starting and stopping points within the track while editing and doing automation? As in, when I press stop twice, it goes back to a specific point in the song (as opposed to the beginning).

    Hey Onigami,
    we talked about last week here.
    Why don't you run the plug-ins on several busses and do a volume automation on the bus?
    2. when you see the (yellow line - volume) (press V on seleted track) click on the line with the cursor to add points (dots) then drag them.
    Press the loop tool or simply press and drag with the mouse up in the measure bars numbers (light green line) and it loop over the selection.
    to resume from the beginning press return, if you don't have the punch in or loop engaged (both green) when you press the space bar twice it should resume from where it stoped, if any of these are on it allways start from the selected point.

  • Setting Stop Points in Javascript - JDev 10.1.3EA

    I'm working on an AJAX project that I'm porting into JDev. I've got several utility javascript files that do all the 'heavy lifting' for me, but I'm having problems with Jdev not seeing the libraries. For example, if I set a break point in any of the scripts, I get the message "Unable to set breakpoint (...\login.js 6), unable to resolve Java package." At run time one javascript calls another one, but Firefox reports that it can't resolve the reference. All my javascripts are saved into the same folder in the project, right alongside the main html page and are visible in the Applications Navigator.
    So, I have a few questions:
    1. Does JDev not support stop points in javascripts?
    2. Is there something special I need to do to ensure that different javascripts see each other inside the same application?
    3. Is there a handy-dandy how-to that I haven't come across that deals with this?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Frank - I have checked, and that makes sense, as the sample bundle (the one where the editor doesn't work properly) has different versions of the tag libs in the project.
    WOW - is this the first semi-official announcement of the impending 10.1.3 release? shiver-me-timbers!

  • Multicamera Editing in CS4: Start / Stop Points Lost

    I'm working on a larger project. I'm using multicamera switching in my sequences.
    When I set a start and end point in my sequence, and then make a change in the Multi-Camera Monitor Window, the start/stop points are lost, and I have to find them again. This is extremely irritating, especially when the the project is in an advanced stage.
    What was Adobe thinking in designing this behaviour, and what can I do about it?

    I suppose for now, I'll just change the camera in the clip's context menu, but you'd think there'd be a more mature way to handle this.

  • Stopping animations at certain points on the timeline.

    Hi all..
    Lets say i have a flashing button in a 2 second loop, "pointA" to "pointB"...
    at second 0 ("pointA") the animation begins and at second 2 ("pointB") the animation return to second 0 with the code sym.play("pointA");
    when a user clicks the flashing button i have another animation that starts and i would like the flashing button to stop
    How do i tell the flashing button animation to reach "pointB" in the animation and then stop, at the moment all i can do is tell it to stop when a user click the button which makes it stop mid-animation
    I understand that i can stop an animation by the following code, but i can get it to finish its animation and then stop...
    sym.getComposition().getStage().getSymbol("flashingButton").stop("pointA");
    Thanks for reading!.
    Justin..

    Hi, Thanks for explaining this...
    If you can please could you take 5 to look at the basic project i have uploaded to the link below..
    http://adobe.ly/1hgZp81
    I have added your state machine to the mix and everything is working as it should but i need each animation to end before a new one begins
    There are 4 animations that are triggered by events..
    1:READY
    2:WAITING
    3:PLAYING
    4:PAUSED
    i would like for an animation to end before the new one begins even though an event has fired. This is because eventually the animations will all be on top of each other to create a seamless animation...
    I have put notes by my code and sectioned it out to help make it clear
    you will find code in the following places
    FULL CODE
    STAGE
    CLICKBOX
    READY>READYB
    WAITING>WAITINGB
    PLAYING>PLAYINGB
    PAUSED>PAUSEDB
    when you click "click to play" it will load an audio stream from a reputable website (ABC Jazz) so nothing silly going on!...
    The full rundown
    When you load the file into a web browser the "ready" event fires and starts the "ready" animation.
    Then when you click "click to play" the "waiting" event fires causing the "waiting" animation to play (its basically buffering audio while this event is firing).
    Then when enough audio has buffered it fires the "playing" event and the "playing" animation occurs and you start to hear the audio stream.
    When you click "click to pause" the "pause" event fires and the "paused" animation begins.
    then the cycle begins again but the "ready" event is no longer required so when you click "click to play" the "waiting" event fires and so on...
    NOTE: i am using a open source script for the audio stream called jplayer (i have loaded the script into the edge file that i have given a link for)
    NOTE: the only way to make this script initiate is to add <div id="liveStream"></div> to the events.html file (otherwise i can not send or recieve commands)
    I guess what im asking is:
    how do i make an animation end (finish its 2 second animation) before the new one begins
    could you take a quick look at my code to make sure i am not running functions too many times (you will see my notes) and to check to see if i have written things correctly, as i am new to this i am finding that there are 100 ways how not to write code and only a few ways how best to write code
    This project is for an audio stream and is for personal & public use, it is not being sold and no money will be made from the end result. (its all about the love 4 music!)
    Many thanks
    Justin

  • Possible to Start/Stop Mark Clips In Timeline?

    Hello,
    I'm using FCP5 on a Dual 2.7 G5 running 10.4.2
    I captured a couple of DV tapes, added a Time Code Generator, and gave the footage to a client on DVD so that they could create a list of shots to not include in the final edit.
    I took this list and went through making cuts at the client's listed start and stop Time Codes. The problem I am having is some of the clips left on the timeline have camera start/stop points. I would like to mark these using "DV Start/Stop Detect" so that I could create new edit points between each start/stop of the camera.
    I can double click each clip in the timeline... opening it in the viewer... and then select "Mark>DV Start/Stop Detect" and this does exactly what I want. It is very tedious though. Is there anyway to automate this process for each clip in the timeline. I hope I explained what I am trying to do clearly. If not please ask questions and I can fill in details.
    Thank You,
    Matt

    Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, it would have been alot smarter to run the Start/Stop Detection as my first step after capturing. I'm new to FCP, and my old NLE (Premiere Pro 1.5) would break the Camera Start/Stops into separate .avi files on the hard drive and in the project window / browser. I just didn't think about it this time... but definitely will next time.
    What I ended up doing is using the track forward selection tool to select all the clips in the timeline that I wanted to mark. I created a new bin in the browser and put all of my clips in the timeline in this new bin (creating subclips?)
    Then I selected all of these clips in the browser and ran the Start/Stop Detect tool. After it finished I sorted all the newly marked clips in my browser by their in points. I then selected all of my clips, dragging them back into the timeline. I put them on a new track so that I could make sure everything lined up correctly. It did. It ended up being a pretty simple fix. Just had to think about it a bit over dinner.
    Thank You,
    Matt

  • Navigate to point on Edge Timeline from a menu outside of edge

    Is it possible to navigate to a point on the timeline from a menu that is outside of the edge animation?
    I have a file set up that has about six screens on it.  Each screen represents a different navigation tab.  The actual file has left and right buttons that create a scroll effect either right to left, or in reverse.  This works fine.  Each transition is marked with a label, such as "Slide01", "Slide02" etc and I am using  | sym.Play("Slide01") | to good effect.
    What I need to do though is create a menu on a web page that takes a user straight to the correct point on the animation.  For example, the second navigation option would take them to the second screen of the edge file.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    We ended up using the following code
    $('#test').click(function(){
    var Comp = AdobeEdge.getComposition('EDGE-XXXXXXXX');
            Comp.getStage().getSymbol("SYMBOLNAME").stop("FRAMELABEL");
    You can replace .stop() with .play() depending on what you want the movie to do.
    We're currently working on parsing a URL to the movie so that you can navigate to a specific part of the animatio when you land on it from another page.  This may prove interesting for pre-loaders though.

  • Transfering Chapter Points to new timeline.

    How do you transfer chapter points from on timeline to another. I want to do this because I have made a mistake in the previous video and you obviously have to re-export it so it becomes a new clip. Thanks.

    Just re-export it with the same name and path as the original clip - Encore will re-read the file the next time you open the project.

  • Loading an animation at a specific point in the timeline?

    Hello,
    I am trying to find out if it is possible to start/load the animation based on a specific point in its timeline? The animation I am creating is a parallax animation based on mouse position and I am trying to load it in the middle of the animation and based on the users mouse position will play forward or backwards from that point. Is this doable?
    Thank you

    Hi, Bullvinne Designs-
    What you'll want to do is to stick some initialization code into the compositionReady event from the stage.  This will execute after the runtime loads and before the user sees the stage.
    Thanks,
    -Elaine

  • "jump" points on the timeline

    I'm kind of new to iMovie, and I'm working on a project where I'd like to set points on the Timeline where the movie will automatically jump to on a certain keystroke during playback. I'd like to be able set up several within the same file. Does anyone know of a way to do this, with iMovie or any other Mac application?
    I'm trying to sync prerecorded film to live music (with fluctuating tempo) as closely as possible, so I need to set up several points where a significant event in the music will be matched exactly to a complementary event onscreen.
    Thanks very much!
