Navigate to point on Edge Timeline from a menu outside of edge

Is it possible to navigate to a point on the timeline from a menu that is outside of the edge animation?
I have a file set up that has about six screens on it.  Each screen represents a different navigation tab.  The actual file has left and right buttons that create a scroll effect either right to left, or in reverse.  This works fine.  Each transition is marked with a label, such as "Slide01", "Slide02" etc and I am using  | sym.Play("Slide01") | to good effect.
What I need to do though is create a menu on a web page that takes a user straight to the correct point on the animation.  For example, the second navigation option would take them to the second screen of the edge file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We ended up using the following code
$('#test').click(function(){
var Comp = AdobeEdge.getComposition('EDGE-XXXXXXXX');
        Comp.getStage().getSymbol("SYMBOLNAME").stop("FRAMELABEL");
You can replace .stop() with .play() depending on what you want the movie to do.
We're currently working on parsing a URL to the movie so that you can navigate to a specific part of the animatio when you land on it from another page.  This may prove interesting for pre-loaders though.

    Either the video track that you are trying to edit on is locked (dark grey diagonal lines thru the track)

  • How to go from multiple chapters ONE timeline to the menu

    Recently had to convert a VHS to a DVD, where the file given to me was 1 Mpeg of the entire VHS capture. Not only that, but there were many interstitial segments which they didn`t want shown on the dvd. Last but not least, the order of sections on the VHS was random, whereas the DVD menu was alphabetical.
    No matter what I did to the timeline/segments/chapter markers/menu directions, you`d select an item from the menu, it would play the right item from the [start] chapter marker, but then would totally ignore the [end] chapter marker (and it`s [end action] on the timeline and menu), and carry on playing whatever was left on the timeline (including all the stuff I didn`t want to be seen by the viewer).
    Yes, I know the best way is to have been given multiple clips, edited the way they wanted them... but we don`t always get what we want, so have to work with what we`re given.
    BUT, it IS possible to have people see only the bits you want them to see (selected from the menu) and then send them back to the menu (highlighted on the next item in the menu), from the one timline:
    - Import your mpeg as a timeline.
    - Add all your chapter markers (one at the start of the section and one at the end). It`s a good idea to name them, so you know where to drag links to later.
    - At the [start] chapter marker of a segment in the timeline, select the [end action] and point it to the menu. This is optional, as apparently it ignores this anyway, but I like to make doubly sure of things with Encore :)
    - On the menu item for that segment, point the [link] to the [start] chapter marker on the timeline.
    All pretty normal so far, but here`s the trick to get it to go where you want it to go, without playing the whole timeline after it`s supposed to have gone back to the menu.
    - Still working from the menu, point the [override] for that segment, to the next item on the menu.
    - select the imported movie timeline in the 'project' window, and then press the [Set.....] button in the properties window, and change the remote control button`s to 'Custom' and make sure next/previous chapter, and fast-forward/rewind are de-selected. If they`re left selected then no matter what you do, the viewer can ff or next chapter, and they`ll see all the things you don`t want them to see. Leave pause/play and Title/Menu selected.
    Hope this is helpful to some of you....

    >Well, it was ignoring the chapter end-actions
    Absent overrides or user-induced navigational errors (like setting the end action for chapter 3 when you want the program to return to the menu after chapter 2 plays), I don't see how this is possible.
    A chapter end action, properly set, will execute during timeline playback when the chapter
    finishes playing. I know this sounds obvious and elementary, but it is a very easy concept to overlook. I am not assuming incompetence, just unfamiliarity. :)
    >If you could direct me to some tutorials on how to use Chapter End Playlists and Chapter Playlists to do this I`d appreciate it. I went through the manual and tried it but it didn`t work for me, and could only find people saying 'do things with chapter playlists' without going into detail on how to do it, when I searched the forums
    If you can squeeze $17 - $25 into your budget, my book (The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe Encore DVD 2.0) has step-by-step instructions and colorful illustrations on how to set up a Chapter Playlist and how to properly set up Chapter End Actions.
    To show my objectivity (and not get booted out of the forum for self-advertising), Adobe has published one of their Classroom in a Book series that covers Encore 2.0. Either way, you should have a reference handy when using complex programs like the ones that are part of the Adobe Production Studio.

  • How do I update an CS3 ENCORE timeline from CS3 PP

    I have completed CS3 ENCORE project with menues and links and generate a test DVD.  Test DVD shows CS3 PPro edits are required.    2008 thread on same subject said to select ASSET 1 (timeline) from ENCORE Project panel, select file and REPLACE ASSET.  REPLACE ASSET is grayed out for me.   I imported the original video asset directly from PPro into ENCORE to start the ENCORE project.   ADOBE Dynamic Linking has AFTER-EFFECT (grayed out) as the only possible selections so I don't know if Dynamic Linking is effective or working.
    Goal is to update the video asset in PPro which is a ENCORE timeline without loosing the ENCORE markers from PPro.
    How should I output an updated sequence from CS3 PPRO and How should I REPLACE or pick up the updated asset in ENCORE?  How do I replace the ENCORE timeline with the new asset once I get it into ENCORE?
    Sorry that this is a repeat of a discussion 2 weeks ago.   I thought I could get away without PPro edit for a new DVD.  I was wrong.
    In ENCORE the video file is a .M2V MPEG and the separate audio file is WAVE  I have REPLACE ASSET capability on the MPEG file but what about the WAVE file.  Should both files be exported from PPro?   Do both files require REPLACE ASSET?

    You may be correct.  The BUILD DVD failed during write due to invalid mpeg file.   I thought by renaming SUMMERTIME2.m2v to SUMMERTIME.m2v I could fool .xmp file about that link.  There may be some time stamp or data size info in .xmp.  I really don't know what .xmp file contains or what it does.
    I don't know what .xmpses file does.
    Anyone know the prupose or function of .xmp and /xmpses files?
    Now I have two options.
    1. COPY/RENAME SUMMERTIME2.xmp to SUMMERTIME.xmp along with rename SUMMERTIME2.m2v and try to fool ENCORE again.  At this point I would have to remane the SUMMERTIME2.wave to SUMMERTIME.wave also as there must be the same problem with wave and m2v.  There is a 3rd ENCORE project asset call SUMMERTIME type=timeline which I don't know it's function or links,
    or
    2. Load SUMMERTIME2 m2v and wave as an assest to ENCORE and replace timeline for SUMMERTIME with SUMMERTIME2.  I would then HOPE the markers/links are not lost as the markers are the same between the 2 m2v files.
    Does anyone have CS3 ENCORE experience replacing timeline m2v assets with marks?
    Anyone have comment on my 2 approaches and the success of either?
    UPDATE:
    Well I answered my own question.  OPTION1 does not work.   BUILD DVD transcodes audio and began building dvd files, then declares "File not valid mpeg".
    This makes me think my output from PPro is not a valid MPEG file.  The m2v data size is very close to original m2v and audio file size is identical to original.  I am really stuck now.
    OPTION 2 may not be any better if mpeg is not valid.   How do I validate or prove an m2v file is good for ENCORE outside of ENCORE?

  • How do I return playback to the main stage timeline from a symbol?

    In trying to learn Edge, is there a way to return playback (play from) once an animation is complete within a symbol?
    For instance, I have the main timeline that shows a symbol animation on creationcomplete, but when the animation is finished in the symbol and I hide the symbol, the main timeline is no longer playing. What would I need to do to return playback control to resume playback of the main timeline? I have a label I would like to play from on the main timeline, but I have not found a way to call the main timeline from within the symbol.
    This was something common in Flash.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi escargo,
    Say we use two symbols object1 and object2.
    The main timeline has an interpolation on object2 from label “mainAnim“. Its autoplay property is set to false : the playhead stops at 0 ms.
    A third symbol nested contains the interpolation on object1. Its autoplay property is set to true, so it plays directly.
    At the end of this transition, there is a trigger (pseudo-track just below the timeline)
    sym = the current symbol nested
    sym.getComposition().getStage() = the main timeline (in Edge the stage is a symbol)
    sym.getComposition().getStage().play(‘mainAnim’); = play the main timeline from the given label.

  • CONTROLLING THE TIMELINE FROM EXTERNAL MC

    I have a website
    http://www.charlesmarsden-smedley.com/index1.html
    that I am building.
    In the projects section, if you navigate to Projects >
    Museum > Tower of London. You will see 'more information' link.
    This loads an external Movie clip for the text feild. I would
    like to make the 'more information' dissappear when it is clicked
    and the text appears in the target. The way I thought is best is to
    move the timeline on one frame and just remove the link, but when I
    click on 'back to images' link it reloads the images (external MC)
    but the 'more information' link is still hidden.
    How can I control the main timeline from an extrernal movie
    clip?
    Am i being rediculously long about this operation?
    thanks
    Harky

    maybe you didnt understand correctly.
    the 'more information' link loads an external movie clip (the
    text) into the right side of the page.
    At the bottom of this movie clip is a green link 'back to
    images' this button sits within the movie clip. So my problem is
    making this button controll the main timeline (as its root is the
    movie clip root, not the main web page root)

  • Extracting portions of the timeline from iMovie to create a 'Sound File'

    Hello
    I recently used my Cannon GL2 as a field recorder to record 16 bit audio sound effects.
    I'd like to extract certain portions of the timeline to create various 'Sound Files' which will be used later (as sound effects), in either iMovie, or FCE HD.
    In iMovie HD, the only method I'm familiar with to extract a portion of the timeline to a 'Sound File', is to FIRST export that portion to a Quicktime File. Then I use 'Sound Studio 2.2.4' to import the Quicktime File. In Sound Studio, I can then create either an AIFF File, or Wav File.
    From there, I open iTunes, and import the Wav File. Now I convert that Wav File to an MP3 (if I need to compress the size of the file).
    I know I can import Raw DV Video Files (Captures), into Garage Band, but then I can't export that edited project into a Sound File.
    But I do know I can use Garage Band to edit (EQ), a portion of the timeline, then Export that portion (as I explained above). But I'm still going through some extra steps .....
    With all I'm mentioned, perhaps I need to get another software program in order to eliminate a step on my way to exporting a portion of a Video timeline from either iMovie, or FCE, and get straight to creating a sound file suitable for later import back into FCE, or iMovie?
    Thanx for your comments
    Mike

    Hey Piero
    Comestah?
    I'm an Italiano too My Granparents are from Bari
    Well yes thank you - that certainly answered part of my question
    Now I wonder if I can extract just a 'PORTION' of the timeline? I tried to insert division points without actually cutting out all the unwanted stuff, and highlighted just that portion, but the Audio Extract process reverts back to extracting the ENITIRE timeline. So I guess I'd have to actually cut and delete all the unwanted parts, then 'save as' to that NEW iMovie project reflecting just that edit in order to extract JUST that audio piece?
    I wonder if the process is more precise in FCE?
    Gracias

  • Send to encore... multiple timelines from PPro CS4

    Hi
    Firstly, apologies if I've missed an answer to this somewhere else. Here's my problem...
    I have a HDV 50i PAL project that I want to burn to blu-ray. The project is currently split into three separate timelines in Premiere. At the moment, I'm selecting a timeline and sending it to Encore. I'll then try and send the second timeline to Encore, but it always wants to open a new Encore project.
    So my question is, is there a way of making Encore add the second timeline to the same project as the first timeline?
    I prefer sending to Encore rather than using the AME as Encore's automatic settings always seem to be better than those from the AME. For example, if I export using AME and HQ presets, one timeline is coming out as 13gig, whereas the same timeline automatically encoded in Encore is coming out at 19gig (maximum render quality used both times) - Quite a difference.
    Hope that makes sense
    Any help would be very welcome
    David

    Hey Stan,
    looks like you have been where I'm trying to go.  I have some similar questions from CS5.5.
    -I have several timelines in PP that I want to dynamically link into Encore.
    -When I use dynamic link I only get one of the timelines from PP dynamically linked to the Encore job, and the others don't come through?
    -I've tried to select all time lines in PP, but it does not allow this.
    -1st question:  How do I get all my PP timelines to come into Encore via dynamic link?
    -I've searched around for this and everything I encounter is one PP timeline, with imported other assets.  I don't want to do it that way, as I need the features
    of dynamic link to edit PP timelines and have them updated in Encore, etc.  I like that flexibility.
    -2nd question: Once you have dynamically linked multiple PP timelines to Encore, how do you add yet another dynamic link from the same job in PP?  For example; lets say I have 3 timelines that were originally linked into Encore, but at some point I needed to drop another timeline to that same  PP job, and then link that to the same job in Encore.  Is it possible to dynamically link a later added PP timeline into the same Encore job?
    Thank you

  • Loading an animation at a specific point in the timeline?

    Hello,
    I am trying to find out if it is possible to start/load the animation based on a specific point in its timeline? The animation I am creating is a parallax animation based on mouse position and I am trying to load it in the middle of the animation and based on the users mouse position will play forward or backwards from that point. Is this doable?
    Thank you

    Hi, Bullvinne Designs-
    What you'll want to do is to stick some initialization code into the compositionReady event from the stage.  This will execute after the runtime loads and before the user sees the stage.
    Thanks,

  • Problem sending timeline from Final Cut to a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project

    Hello,
    Thank you in advance for reading.  I am having trouble sending a timeline from Final Cut to a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project.  Final Cut makes a new Soundtrack Pro project file just fine and opens Soundtrack Pro as it's supposed to, but the project in Soundtrack Pro only has a portion of my audio tracks.  I've tried sending by control clicking the sequence in the browser and selecting 'Send to Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project' as well as highlighting my entire timeline and doing the same.  Both result in the same Soundtrack Pro proejct with about 1/3 of my total 48 audio tracks (lots of sound FX).
    I'm using Final Cut 7.0.2 and Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1  My computer is a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8, 2.26 ghz intel core 2 duo, 4 gb ram.
    Any suggestions (or workarounds, if it comes to that) anyone has will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again, Gabe

    Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
    How does it play/sound?  This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
    Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
    What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
    Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.
    What does it say for audio?

  • Opening the Canvas window and the Timeline from the browser

    I am on an Intel 2x2.66 Dual Core using OS 10.4.11 and working in FCP 6.04.
    I know this is a stupid question but having been a composer all my life, I am not up to speed on FCP and I seem to be unable to find the answer in my manual.
    I dragged a QuickTime movie to the browser window. It is 500x375 in dimension and uses a H.264, AAC codecs. (info I got from the Get Info window).
    The video shows up and plays in the Viewer window but I cannot get the Canvas window nor the Timeline to open.
    I have tried selecting the sequence from the list in the browser and then control clicking it and looking at the shortcut menu there. The manual says I should choose Open Timeline from this shortcut menu but that is not even a choice I have. I don't mean it is grayed out, I mean there is no Open Timeline choice on the menu.
    As an alternate, the manual suggests selecting the sequence and then choosing View > Sequence in Editor. I tried this also. There is no Sequence in Editor choice under the View menu. There is a Clip in Editor choice but when I select that it simply opens the movie in Quicktime.
    I am aware that I am probably forgetting something simple or doing something stupid but I cannot figure it out. Help would be much appreciated.
    Thomas

    the simple fact that is being eluded to here is that without an active sequence in the project (shown in the browser) there is no canvas or timeline. If you delete your sequence from the browser, the timeline and canvas will disappear, and you will have to create a new sequence, then open that sequence by double clicking it, to get those windows back. Canvas and Timeline display sequence content. No sequence, no c/t.

  • How do I set a variable on the main timeline from within a symbol?

    Just getting started with Animate and coming to it from Flash, as may be apparent from my question. How do you set a variable to the main timeline from within a symbol?
    I have 24 pairs of clickable elements, each in their own symbols, and all 24 of those symbols sit inside another symbol. I want all 24 to be able to set the same global variable when clicked. I can't find that this question is addressed anywhere, which makes me think I may be stuck in a Flash mindset and approaching the task in the wrong way. (There are however MANY discussions of how to address objects at different levels in the hierarchy. That's well covered.)
    Relatedly, how do you access a function on the main timeline from within a symbol?
    Adobe should consider putting together a support page (or pages) just for folks migrating form Flash. In the materials I've encountered so far there seems to be a studied effort to refrain from mentioning Flash in any way. I imagine there are a lot of people out there like me who have a deep background in Flash coding, but are just getting started with Animate. We don't need help with most of the basic concepts, but we may still have some pretty basic questions about how to accomplish some things in Animate because our Flash knowledge is getting in the way.

    Hi Bill,
    There are plenty of threads on here about scope, but here's one way to create a global variable:
    // code on Stage.compositionReady
    sym.myGlobalVar = 1;
    Then, anywhere in your project, you can check/set that var like so:
    sym.getComposition().getStage().myGlobalVar = 2;
    And here's one way to create a global function:
    // code on Stage.compositionReady
    sym.myGlobalFunction = function(){
              console.log('myGlobalFunction');
    Then, anywhere in your project, you can call that function like so:
    sym.getComposition().getStage().myGlobalFunction();

  • Controlling a Movie Clip on the Main Timeline from a loaded SWF?

    Is it possible to control a MovieClip on the main timelne from another loaded clip?
    I see posts that control loaded clips, but most are all from the loader in the main timeline.  I have a moviclip on the main timeline that I want to make visible or invisible depending on what keyframe is playing in another loaded swf.
    If I try to call the movieClip from the loaded SWF I get "error #1119.  Access of possibly undefined property...." because it doesn't exist in the loaded SWF, just the main timeline.
    The old AS2 way just used "_root".  Since "_root" doesn't exist any more, how do you control items on the main TimeLine from a loaded SWF?

    I am not clear what you mean because you are saying you are trying to target a movieclip that does not exist where you are trying to target it.
    Try using a trace to see what you are targeting when you you target the MovieClip(parent.parent)....
    trace(MovieClip(parent.parent));
    The other approach I mentioned earlier is the more OOP-correct approach if you would rather try that way.  Here's a rough outline of it...
    AS3 - Dispatch Event
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/470135?tstart=120
    Example:
    Add something to trigger the event in the child (your loaded swf):
    dispatchEvent(new Event("eventTriggered")); (
    if dispatchEvent problem, see: http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1899603#post1899603)
    In your loading/parent swf, listen for the complete event on the Loader.contentLoaderInfo.  In the complete event handler, add a listener for the event on the loaded swf.
    // event handler triggered when external swf is loaded
    function loaderCompleteHandler(event:Event) {
        MovieClip(event.currentTarget.content).addEventListener("eventTriggered", eventHandler);
    function eventHandler(event:Event):void {
        trace("event dispatched in loaded swf");
       // this is where your main file can set the visible property of your movieclip
