Embedding KML files

I saved a track in MotionX on my iPhone. Sent it to myself. I have a KML file that looks just fine in both Google Maps and Google Earth. I would like to embed this track in an entry on my blog (using iWeb, hosted on MobileMe). I tried to do it the same way I've done other maps (build the map, copy the html, etc) but it doesn't work with this file.
Can it be done? Does anyone know how?
Thanks, HNick

You need to have good KML file and a Google account, with Google account you have My Maps feature when logon to http://www.google.com/maps. Here are the steps to build a typical Google map from KML file:
1) logon to Google maps account and click on My Maps.
2) click on Create new map (upper left link just below Google logo).
3) click on Import (upper left link just below 'My Maps' link), select your KML file to upload.
Google will make a map from KML file.
4) give the map a title, choose whether it is Public or Unlisted then Save it (Save button)
5) click on Link (upper right link just above the map).
you can Customize and preview embedded map (the lower link in the drop down pane).
when done, copy the result code and add it to your iWeb page using HTML Snippet.
that will get you a typical Google map from KML file... nothing fancy as my examples, which have placemarks (balloon thingies) and larger view mode.

  • How do you plot a path using a .kml file in an embedded google earth in Labview?

Over the last few days I have been reading all the google earth and lv postings that I can find and I have downloaded a variety of vis and examples that people have posted. I haven't been able to find or figure out a way to display a .kml file that I am creating based on a path of lat and long values in an embedded google earth map in labview.  I was hoping to have the user select a portion of the path on a x,y lv graph and then use those cursor coordinates to create a kml file of the lat and long values of that selected path (I have already completed this portion of the code) and display that alongside in a google earth map.  All the examples I have found show how to display a point in the embedded GE map - does anyone know how to display a number of points along a path?
    Thanks so much!

    Hi,
I have found an example thatprogramatically creates and modifies a .kml file with pushpin information:

  • How do I get a handle on embedded sound files?

From the Sound Class information, it says to use the SoundMixer Class to handle embedded Sound Files.  I have two sound files embedded, that I have setup in 2 separate layers, starting at frame one in the main timeline.  I needed to do this so I could see the wave files, and coordinate text with the waves.  I do not want to load these files into the .swf file at runtime using URLRequest.  How do I get a handle on those as they exist, to make each controllable by separate volume and mute controls for each sound?
This will be a challenging question, because, "it can't be done" doesn't work for me.  I managed to create a way to use an external classfile to control the main timeline, the ROOT timeline, without having to create a sub movie to root.  I can use my component to call play(); as though it were in code in a frame.  But it isn't, it's in an external classfile.  I passed root to the classfile and told the classfile to think of it as a movieclip - that put the handle on it.  I tried similar way with root as a Sound, but that isn't detailed enough - I need to get a handle on the frame that contains the embedded sound file.  I embedded, attached it, using the properties view for the frame.
I've attached, or whatever you want to call it, these sound files to a frame, and this frame is or should be attached to the layer I've created.  So, under the assumption that the ROOT has everything attached to it in some manner (it is after all the foundation for the COM), the stage of the root contains the visual components, so ROOT has to have the layer objects attached to it, which should have the frame objects attached to the layers.  I have two layers that each have a .wav file attached to frame one.  Somehow Flash keeps track of that - I want to know how Flash does it so I can read what flash reads.
If this seems redundant, it probably is.  I want to paint the best picture I know how so I can get detailed feedback.  Please, if you have questions ask them so we can clarify, and get this resolved!  Thanks for reading!

    lol.
ok, it can be done.  keep working on it.

  • When I try to open an embedded PDF file I get an error "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.exe.

When I try to open an embedded PDF file (Word doc) I get an error "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.exe. That program is either not installed on your computer, or is corrupt..."  I've tried  about everything from unchecking
protected mode at startup to removing & reinstalling Adobe.  Nothing seems to fix this issue.  Any other ideas?
This is happening on Adobe reader 9, 10 & 11 with MS Word 2010 & 2013.  I've uninstalled, cleaned & reinstalled Reader 9, 10 & 11, as well as Acrobat 10 Pro & 11 Standard.  Removed "Protected mode at startup, and changed
the default program for viewing from reader to Acrobat.  This will not go away.  It is affecting production at our company.

" Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder" . i can't find open containing folder in profile directory. it does give me the option to open the places.sqlite file using graphic converter. when i try that, graphic converter gives me a window saying that it can't be opened because it is corrupted or is not a file type supported by graphic converter.
i appreciate your help with a workaround to get the old bookmarks. that works. however, the problem has morphed from that concern to why adobe reader [the default app.] won't open firefox .sqlite files. is the problem in adobe reader or firefox? also, how can i tell if the places.sqlite file is corrupt?
i'm getting in over my head here and do appreciate your help.

  • How do I get an embedded quicktime file to appear "activated" w/playback & volume upon opening PDF?

I am new to adobe acrobat, and I'm using version 8.  I am trying to insert quicktime videos in a PDF File.  I have figured out how to insert the video files and embed them in the PDF.
However, when I save the PDF, close it, and then re-open the it, the quicktime file does not appear.  If I don't use a poster image, then it is just blank where the file is, but the file is there, and when I click on the empty space where I know that it has been embedded a dialog box opens about playing it just this once, or making it a trusted file, etc.  Then it plays, and the volume and playblack controls, along with the background, are visible. (it is actually just an audio track in a quicktime file, so nothing is playing but the audio, and the background is solid black.  I have set it up so that it stays there once activated.
What I want is for the volume and playblack controls and the black background to appear as soon as you open the PDF file, without having to click in the blank area where the file has been inserted.  This is going to be part of a portfolio that I am submitting for a school program, so I need the person that is opening it to be able to clearly see where the file is, and see the playblack and volume controls so that he can playback the file.
So how do i get the embedded quicktime file to automatically show up in "activated" mode, with the playback and volume controls visible and ready to be used?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks...

If the video is only linked it would reduce the file size of the pdf and it would make it accessible for people opening on a device (like iPad) which does not allow flash which must be installed with Acrobat to view embedded media.
But I would recommend to send the people only a link to the PDF. I hate it, when my iPhone filled with useless stuff, if I would like to see it I could donwload, but as attachment make my space overfilled.

  • Acrobat Pro: Making timecode visible in embedded sound files?

Hello.  I teach music history courses.  For copyright purposes (i.e., to prevent music theft), I am embedding sound files in PDFs for student use.  Some of my commentaries have timing cues (e.g., Horns enter at 3'38"), but I've not found a way to make the timecode visible to the students.
Time codes are, of course, a standard feature on most music players (iTunes, Quicktime, WMP, etc.), as well as on many Flash players.  It seems reasonable that the media player in Acrobat should have a similar feature, even if disabled by default.  But if it does, I have been unable to locate or enable it.  Does such a feature exist on Acrobat?
If not, does anyone have a recommendation for a possible alternative?  Thanks.

You do know that as of Acrobat 9.0 you are able to include Flash Movies in PDFs. Now as to how that works I couldn't tell you as I haven't used Flash much even though I have it as part of Studio 8.

  • Reader-8.1.1 and embedded media file

    Hi,
I cannot get embedded MPEG files running in the new Reader for Linux. I have RealPlayer 10.0.9 installed on my system and the `realplay' starting script is in PATH.
When I click on the movie, a message box opens saying:
Acrobat has encountered an error while playing this media clip:
Without telling the actual error. If I click a second time, the same box opens again, but a small black pop-up opens as well, showing a progress bar and the message `Initializing RealNetworks'. But nothing happens after that.
Do I need to configure something else?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.
    Alexander

    Alexander,
I'm having a similar problem, but with a Flash file.
I've verified that I can play the file from the
command line and from my KDE Desktop (SUSE Linux 10.1),
and so I'm pretty sure that the player is working.
But when I generate a PDF using LaTeX and your movie15
    package AR8.1.1 redirects me to:
    http://www.adobe.com/special/acrobat/nomediaplayer.html
If I look at the attachments pane, the file is
    correctly identified as "application/x-shockwave-flash"
But under the filename, the phrase "Indeterminate" has
been added, which suggest that the something in the
annotation is not recognized (I'm using move15 2007/05/07).
Either that, or AR itself is broken.
I'm still in the process of dissecting the PDF to see
where the problem lies. But it would be helpful if
someone could post a url to an embedded media example
that is known to work with Linux AR8. That way I can
at least check that my setup is working, which will
    be hakf the battle won.
    Cheers,
    James

  • Is it possible to import and display/plot (Google Earth) KML files as overlays in Mac OS 10.9 Maps application?

Is it possible to import and display/plot (Google Earth) KVM files as overlays in Mac OS 10.9 Maps application?
Here is the particular application: (note I haven't gotten the code to compile yet -- seems to be several differently named environment variables in Mac unix than in Linux that are making the compile blow up -- but that's another issue) there is a freeware application that can do radio path loss prediction and plot path loss contours on a map. It has an option to output the data as KML files which can be imported into Google Earth, in order to display the path loss contours on Google Earth maps. I guess you could liken it to displaying overlays of GIS-like data in Google Earth. I would like to know if there is a mechanism to facilitate importing KML data files to overlay (preferably in a translucent fasion so that you could see the underlying map) onto Mac OS 10.9 Maps?

    As I stated, "possibly."
While the commerce side of it has little to do with the KML files, per se, the API for the layer data should allow for any type of overlay.
Also, the patent was filed Dec 19, 2013. There was a related patent filed in 2012. Not sure what it is about.

  • Embedded wav files not playing in IE7 after installing QT 7.3

I created a web page that uses javascript to play embedded wav files on an onclick event. I was having trouble with my Firefox browser not playing the wav files at all, so I thought I'd update from QT 7.1 to QT 7.3. This has caused my IE browser to stop playing the embedded files, and has not helped my Firefox browser, either. Uninstalling QT 7.3 does restore IE7's ability to play the embedded files. I'm using some simple popular Javascript for the function, and the page works for me in my home installation of Firefox, so I'm still mystified why the wav files won't play on my workplace Firefox (yes, I tried disabling all the other plugins, to no avail), and also, I need to fix IE7 now, as well. QuickTime Object is enabled in IE's add-ons list.
I did search all over the knowledge base here and at Firefox's site for solutions.
    Suggestions?

Internet Explorer requires the "object" tag code and your html only uses "embed".

  • Embedded pdf files will not open

Dell Laptop Windows XP up to date, Firefox 4.0, Adobe Reader 10.0.1
Since updating to Firefox 4.0 certain embedded pdf files will not open forcing me to use my Internet Explorer browser to access these files. Tried all of the FAQ suggestions with no relief.
NOTE: I can open previously opened files (Firefox 3.___) but not a new one.

Thank you for the response. I insereted several .pdf files into my MS Word document where they show as Acobat icons. When in MS Word, I am able to double-click on the icons and the files open in Acrobat. I then converted the MS Word document to a .pdf. These icons now only show as pictures and do not open the original inserted .pdf documents.

  • Links to embedded pdf files not working in iOS reader

I have created a pdf document that links to a variety of embedded pdf files.
When I open this file in the iOS reader on my iPad 3, the links are not active. All of the embedded files are listed in the attachments list, but the links themselves do not launch the attachments.
    Please help!
    Thank you

We only support internal and http links in the current reader, not including links to attachments. However, PDF attachments should be open-able using the attachments button (bottom right). It should also work for password protected documents. If it does not, please share a sample file with us at [email protected] so we can investigate.
    Thanks!

  • Embedded pdf file in MS Excel cannot be open in Surface RT.

    Hi,
I have a problem opening the embedded pdf file in my MS Excel in my Surface RT.
When I clicked on the pdf file, it shows "Cannot start the source application for this object".
I have the Adobe Reader Touch installed in my Surface RT.
Does anyone face the same problem? Any solution for the issue?
    Thanks!

Adobe Reader Touch (Windows Store app with Modern UI) does not support embedded PDF files.
Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI) does support it.  Unfortunately, Adobe Reader XI is not compatible with the Windows RT operating system. Hence, you are not able to install and run Adobe Reader XI on Surface RT.
I tried other PDF viewers (that are Windows Store apps), such as Microsoft Reader, Foxit Mobile PDF for Win8, on my Surface RT by changing the default PDF application.  But none of them opened embedded PDF files successfully.
It looks like your only choice is to view those Microsoft Excel/Word files with embedded PDF on your desktop machine, laptop or other devices with Intel-based processors.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Embedded PDF files do not show in Internet Explorer 11

    Hi,
We have several machines that cannot show embedded pdf files in Internet Explorer 11 with Adobe Reader as default pdf reader.
    Example from one pc:
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 – all updates applied.
    IE 11 version: 11.0.9600.17239.
    Update Versions: 11.0.11 (KB2976627).
Adobe Reader: 11.0.08 (no further updates available).
As test example we have used: http://acroeng.adobe.com/Test_Files/browser_tests/embedded/embed2.html
We only get a blank page with two placeholders with a small black square with a white cross in each.
If we install Foxit Reader on the same pc, and sets it as default reader, everything works.
What do we do to solve the Adobe Reader problem?

Hi Pat - thanks for your reply.
We have already tried the TabProcGrowth registry change. It doesn't work. As mentioned, we use IE 11 on Windows 7, and not IE 10 as the article from Microsoft specifies.
As shown in the images above, the registry is set to 1 and the PDF's still don't show up embedded in the browser.
    Any other suggestions? Anyone?

  • Where is the setting in LR 2.0 to turn on the view the embedded jpg file instead of rendering a thum

Where is the setting in LR 2.0 to turn on the view the embedded jpg file instead of rendering a thumbnail image from the RAW file?

Doug, this is a user to user forum so you get advice here from other users just like yourself.
AFAIK LR will show the embedded jpeg until it renders its own preview after that there is no way to get it to show the embedded jpeg.
When you are importing photos into LR in the import dialog box there is an option to show a preview of the embedded jpeg while the import is actually taking place.
Also this is the regular LR user to user forum and there is a link to the LR 2.0 Beta forum at the top of this forum. Maybe its best to post your question there.

  • Why does embeded .swf file goes crazy in IE but not in other browsers?

    hi everyone
I'm building a SharePoint page with an embedded .swf file that is capable of detecting the current URL to activate and show content. Everything goes smoothly in all the browsers I've tested it except IE. When I open the SharePoint page in IE the .swf just reproduces the frames non stop, It completely ignores my scripts and I cant find anything that could be responsible of this. besides the url detection script, i just have simple button configuration for the timeline and general stops.
    any idea?.....anyone?

Normally when swf's play differently for different browsers it is due to the embedding code used in the html page.
