Embedding Secuirty in PDF files.

Question #1.
Is there any possibility of setting up of a password while creating a PDF from the function module 'CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF'. or is it possible to disable the Print, Edit,Save As features on the PDF file.
Question #2.
Is it possible to restrict the FORWADING of the email being send using the FM 'SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1'. Somthing like the RMS used for Microsoft Office Documents.

    2- Can i do it programatically in my own code by using APIs from Adobe ? If yes where i can find those APIs ?
    NB: Please, can someone tell me how to talk to an expert fro Adobe. I want know if Adobe tools offer a solution to this problem or not.

    Dynamic text fields do support some HTML formatting, but
    it's important
    to understand that at this time, the supported tags comprise
    only a very
    small subset of the full HTML specification. (Search the Help
    panel for
    "supported HTML tags," and you'll see which ones they are.)
    As such, Flash
    Player simply doesn't load HTML files.
    What Flash Player does load is XML, so if your documents are
    formatted
    as XHTML (that is, technically XML), you'll have the
    beginnings of something
    you can use. Flash won't necessarily be able to display
    elements it doesn't
    understand (e.g. tables), but because the document is XML,
    you'll be able to
    parse those tags and extract information from them, using
    what Flash *is*
    capable of displaying.

  • How do I play an audio clip embedded in a PDF file in Acrobat DC for iOS?

    It looks like playing audio clips from PDF files is currently not available on Acrobat DC for iOS, could this be enabled?
    Also it would be nice to be able to pause/restart/stop audio playback, see audio clip length and progress bar and jump to the desired position.
    Thanks

    Use a SwingWorker:new SwingWorker<AudioClip, Void> () {
        protected AudioClip doInBackground () throws Exception {
            return Applet.newAudioClip (new URL ("http://www.geocities.com/darrylbu/sounds/ringout.wav"));
        protected void done () {
            try {
                get ().play ();
            } catch (ExecutionException ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
            } catch (InterruptedException ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
    }.execute ();Depending on your need, you may want to make that a named class AND/OR assign it to a variable reference and call execute separately AND/OR you may want to call loop () instead of play () inwhich case you may want to assign the AudioClip to an instance field so that stop () can be called from any method.
    For a console app, I would have recommended a Thread:new Thread (new Runnable () {
        public void run () {
            try {
                Applet.newAudioClip (new URL ("http://www.geocities.com/darrylbu/sounds/ringout.wav")).play ();
            } catch (MalformedURLException ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
    }).start ();The same reasoning applies.
    Please read the API for anything you're not familiar with, and get back if you have any questions.

  • Flash Player in pdf file?

    I'm working on a eBook in pdf format with embedded video. If I insert video in shockwave or flv format it doesn't play. Flash Player 10 doesn't appear to open from video within a pdf file. (It IS installed! on the computer). I get video playback within the pdf doc with Quick Time or Windows Media Player or any other format but NOT Flash or Shockwave. I want to have a single dedicated player format so any computer will recognize and play the embedded video. Plus a single flv or shockwave video reduces the total file size to a managable download level beyond inserting every other video rendition known to man.Can Flash Player be embedded in the pdf file, be called upon FROM a pdf file or is it something that will only work on a website within an html presentation? ~SW

    Sorry, I don't know the answer.  If I had that problem, I would try to ask in the Acrobat forum.

  • Fully embedding fonts in PDF

    Hi,
    I had a piece of information but I can't seem to find it anymore so I have to ask ...
    This is about understanding limitations of fully embedding fonts in a PDF (from Indesign Server). Actually it's about one limitation in particular. I know fonts with licensing issues or fonts that are marked "embedded not allowed" will not be embedded. Also, there is a threshold that I need to set.
    So, I recall reading somewhere that Indesign will not fully embed "standard" fonts. Is that correct and what is this standard fonts category?
    Oh, reading through some posts, I noticed lots of people and experts ask why does one need fully embedded fonts. That's a good question and I don't know the root reason but in my case it seems that some regulatory agencies (in the life sciences/pharma domain) require PDFs with fully embedded fonts.
    Many thanks
    Cristian

    On behalf of Adobe:
    (1)     For both InDesign “PDF export” (including InDesign Server) and Illustrator “save as PDF” functions, most but not all of the .joboptions file font embedding options are totally and utterly ignored. The options that are ignored are the Embed all fonts, Embed OpenType fonts, Always embed, and Never embed. Those options are observed by Distiller and the PDFMaker components of Acrobat.
    (2)     These applications will attempt to embed all fonts referenced by the document, regardless of the settings of the .joboptions file. The only reason why a font would not be embedded in a PDF file would be if (a) the font was unavailable (i.e., not installed on the system) or (b) the font's embedding permissions do not permit embedding for at least preview and print privileges. Thus, if you use the so-called Standard .joboptions (strongly not recommended for any graphic arts purposes), even the base 14 fonts (four faces each of Helvetica, Times, and Courier along with Symbol and ITC Zapf Dingbats will be embedded if your document references them.
    (3)     The subset threshold value of 0 (zero) may effectively cause all the glyphs of a font to be embedded in some, but not all cases. This will work for many if not most Type 1 fonts and some smaller TrueType and OpenType CFF fonts. Note that embedding all glyphs in a font is not the same as embedding a full font. For OpenType and TrueType fonts, InDesign and Illustrator never embed all the tables of the font. Such unembedded tables include those used for pair kerning, advanced OpenType features (such as ligatures, alternate representations, contextual alternates, small caps, old style figures, etc.), and extended metrics.
    (4)     There are plenty of bubbameissas out there with regards to the benefits or liabilities of either fully embedding or subset embedding fonts. What is true is that: (a) Acrobat never uses the embedded font for text editing - you must have the font installed on the system in order to do such edits. (b) Subset embedding or not is totally irrelevant to what a RIP does when rendering text, either for PostScript or direct PDF RIPs. Neither subset or full embedding is any more reliable than the other and the specifications of PostScript and PDF do not permit the RIP to replace the embedded font with a font with a similar name - urban legend notwithstanding!!!! (c) Third party plug-ins to Acrobat or applications that claim to allow you to edit PDF files with embedded fonts may be illegally letting you do so if the embedding permissions do not permit embedding for editable embedding or installable embedding - most fonts do not provide such embedding permissions and since the fonts are missing metric information, such editing may be somewhat lacking in quality or features.
    (5)     In fact some very non-tech-savvy organizations have posted requirements for full embedding of fonts in submitted PDF files (I have personally seen one such requirement by some international bureaucracy). They can post such bone-headed requirements based on limited understanding of PDF and PDF workflows, but that doesn't mean that anybody actually provides such PDF files. If in fact you run into such requirements, I would appreciate it if references to same can be forwarded to my attention by private message on these forums.

  • PDF file displays boxes instead of Japanese characters

    Hi,
    I am creating PDF files with a custom third-party set of sortware tools (Infragistics NetAdvantage).
    This particular PDF document contains Japanese text using the Meiryo font and this font is embedded into the PDF file. It works fine in Windows (using the Adobe Acrobat Reader application), even on a machine where Meiryo is not installed.
    But when viewed on the iPad, the text is displayed as a bunch of empty boxes.
    Also, I'm not sure if it's related, but when viewing the same document on Window XP using FoxIt (instead of the Adobe Acrobat Reader), the text is not shown at all - there's just an empty space and not even boxes.
    I would love to attach a sample PDF file here, but I don't see any way to do that... is there a way to attach files to these questions?

    So the empty boxes are indeed shown by built-in preview, and Adobe Reader is also not able to render the content and it appears as blank.
    After investigation , it turns out that system fonts on ipad does not have the required glyphs ( ~ symbol ) to render these characters. This is Apple’s bug and you may have to report this issue , indicating that it is not rendered in Preview / i-books on the ipad.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.
    Thanks,

  • Launch Reader from PDF file in Google Chrome browser PDF viewer

    Hello!
    So I have a fillable PDF form which runs document level JavaScript to essentially render itself inactive (hides fields, etc.) if opened in anything other than Reader or Acrobat. This works great, especially in Google Chrome has known problems with submitting fillable PDF forms properly.
    Here is an example form: https://luxsci.com/forms/6296/2251/Qlg5/Medical_Center_Intake_Form.pdf
    Open in Chrome and it's unusable, there's a warning layer, and a JavaScript alert. Open in Reader or Acrobat and it renders fine and submit works great.
    When the file is downloaded in Chrome it's saved locally, i.e. Chrome displays the file URL as: file:///C:/Users/David/Downloads/Medical_Center_Intake_Form%20(3).pdf
    I am trying to make the process of opening the file from Chrome in reader as simple as possible for the end user. As such, I am wondering if there is a way to add a button which will launch Reader on the end-user's desktop/laptop and open this file?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your comments, but that isn't the issue. We provide form processing services and have developed an effective workaround via document level JS to render the form unusable and non-submittable (is that a word?!) if opened in anything other than Adobe Reader or Acrobat. The complaint we are trying to deal with is that non-tech savvy users can't figure out how to open the PDF in Reader when Chrome auto opens it for them in the built-in broken Chrome PDF viewer.
    While I could certainly provide instructions for how to install/enable the Adobe Reader plugin in Chrome, the point is to avoid requiring the non tech savvy end-user to do anything other than click a button to open the file in Reader. So asking them to install/configure the adobe PDF plugin in their browser is not a feasible solution. So what I want is this:
    -PDF opens in Chrome's built-in PDF viewer and user sees notice that they can't use the form in the current program.
    -User can click a button saying "Open this file in Adobe Reader"
    -Clicking the button launches the local computer's Reader application, and opens the file. The PDF is then rendered normally and can be filled out and submitted as normal.
    I don't really think it's possible because of browser security restrictions against launching executables, but since the browser is just showing an embedded locally downloaded PDF file, I thought maybe there's a way...
    Thanks!

  • Problems loading PDF files in Illustrator

    Hi,
    When I try loading a PDF file in Illustrator I get two errors. Firstly, it complains that the fonts are missing and will be substituted. This occurs even when the font is embedded in the PDF file, and even when the font is installed on the system. Is there something I need to do to make Illustrator recognise the font?
    More seriously, an accented character (à, latin small letter a with grave accent) is mangled and shows up as a lone caret instead. Why is this?
    In both cases the attached PDF file displays perfectly in Adobe Reader.
    Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
    Best regards,
    Michael

    I think you are misunderstanding something here/ not understanding how PDF text embedding works. If PDF files contain embedded fonts, those take precedence over local system fonts. Each font or sub-set of a font (if "only embed used glyphs" is chosen) is assigned a unique identifier number to reference it. Names are only stored based on how the file was created. It is up to the program opening the PDF file to read that info and make sense of it. This may allow to re-create an editable document, but as I already wrote, based on what priorities apply, it may not. The only way to make sure a document remains editable is to attach the source in a separate chunk, which is what Retain Illustrator Editing Capabilities does. The rest is far out and far inbetweeen, as they say...

  • Adobe Caslon Pro generates enormous PDF files on Mac Word, displays incorrectly on Word for Windows

    Had a terrible experience trying to typeset my first document with Adobe Caslon Pro in Word. In Word Mac, 27 page all text document rendered to 70 MB PDF with Opentype features enabled, well under a megabyte with Opentype features disabled in compatibility settings for the same font. Opening same document in Word for Windows (both 2010 and 2013) displayed with incorrect (increased) line spacing and Opentype features (e.g. ligatures) disabled even though they were enabled in compatibility setting (they showed up when I opened the same document in Mac).

    Something definitely doesn't sound right here.
    We are not aware of any problems using Adobe Caslon Pro with Microsoft Word 2011 on the Macintosh.
    Attached is a sample Word document that I created using Word 2011 (with all latest updates from Microsoft), four styles of Adobe Caslon Pro with all OpenType features enabled.
    I created a PDF file using “save as PDF” from Word's own “save” dialog, also attached.
    I also created a PDF file from the “print” dialog using the “save as Adobe PDF” function (lower left corner of the dialog box), also attached.
    In terms of functionality, I don't see the problems you are experiencing. The only difference between the generic PDF and the Adobe PDF appear to be optimization of the fonts embedded in the PDF files.
    In terms of cross-platform compatibility, with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, forget about it. Font handling is problematic when you go beyond simple typography and fonts that have only four faces - regular, italic, bold, and bold italic. The cross-platform compatibility problems really have nothing to do with Adobe fonts themselves.

  • How remove embedded font from PDF

    When I print to PDF on Mac OS 10.6.8 by default embed fonts to PDF-file. It add unnecessary bites to PDF-file (the file is huge size).
    How to remove this option of fonts embedding? Or how remove embedded font from PDF file?

    After opening dozens and dozens of linked files,I finally found the offending "empty line of text" in one of the AI files I placed in the INDD file. Open > Select All.... then check the font panel. With mixed fonts, it was empty, but if everything was the correct font, it was filled in. It was just one AI file.
    I want to thank you all for your great ideas and for sharing your experience. Onward, now.

    I cannot open files embedded in a pdf file when I click on them as they appear on a webpage. I am trying to open pdfs embedded in a pdf document at http://www.surfsidebeach.org/agenda-2013.html. None of the embedded pdfs will open. They will, however, open in Internet Explorer. Is there a fix for this?

    This looks like a limitation of Firefox's built-in PDF viewer. To switch to Adobe's viewer (or the other viewer of your choice), see the steps in this article: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]]. Does that work?
