Embedding SWF symbol with embedded video

AFAIK from Google search result, there is no official support
on embedding flv/mov into flex yet, so I take an alternative route,
which is not success yet.
I have built a swf with Flash 8 as the library of assets.
Inside the library, there are 12 videos set to be controlled by the
timeline, each is placed into a MovieClip with identifier set as
"videoSymbol1"..."videoSymbol12" respectively.
Then I use a class to collect all these embedded MovieClips.
However, if I try to create a few objects of different
classes within the same screen update interval, mostly all the
objects becomes the last called class on display, or the Video
inside the movie become damanged. However, if the object belongs to
the class "symbolCls_1", it will just be fine.
By running code in the Action Code section inside the code
attached, only c1 displays the correct video, while all c2 to c12
display either messed-up video or the video of symbolCls_12.
However, if I create objects of one same classes, it is just
fine.
Other than loading external flv, see if there is any other
solutions on this. Thanks in advance.

My ultimate goal is to embed all the assets and program into
one swf for deployment as I don't feel comfortable exposing the
assets. And, since these assets are created and destroy very
frequently, I'm wondering the performance issue if I use SWFLoader
to load it just when I need to put the video on stage.
What about loading the external swf's as a template, and do a
byte-clone on creating the video instance?

Spark Image can't scale embedded SWF symbols?

Can anyone help me make sense of this?
Using Flex 4.5.1 (Spark only compile) I've found that the new Spark Image control works inconsistently when loading SWF at runtime and embedding SWF symbols. See these two situations:
1) OK - Spark image loads a whole SWF in runtime. Swf loads OK and scales up to desired size with perfect smooth anti-aliased edges
2) Not OK - Spark Image loads an embedded swf symbol as follows:
<s:Image source="@Embed(source='embedded/GeneralSymbols.swf' , symbol = 'komodoDragon')" x="250" y="35" height="200" />
( or using a bindable class )
And the image is pixelated and totally unusable.
It seems unfortunately that when embedding Swf Symbols ( which is a big element of the Adobe Flex - Flash - Illustrator workflow ) the "vector" images are reduced to bitmaps at their original size and don't scale.
I know spark swfLoader is a possible option - but surely it's too heavy for loading many images?

I'm using Flex 4.6 SDK and having the same problem. It's kind of dumb, isn't it?
Especially since I'm migrating an application from Flex 3 to 4.6 and it worked perfectly in the previous version.

Trace() not working with embedded SWFs created with Flash Builder

I have just migrated to Flash Builder 4.5 with the 4.5.1 SDK.
I have an application that loads a lot of child SWFs into it - some of which are created with Flash, some are created with Flash Builder.
I am noticing now that my trace() statements that are called from within SWFs produced with Flash Builder that are loading as child SWFs into my main SWF are NOT appearing. However, trace() statements called from within SWFs produced with Flash that are loading as child SWFs into my main SWF ARE appearing.
This is an extremely major problem and has short-circuited my debugging/development.
Any recommendations, workarounds, or suggestions?

If the child SWFs were created by performing an "Export Release Build", then trace() statements would be omitted.
You can control this by setting the -omit-trace-statements compiler argument (in Project properties -> Flex Compiler -> Additional Compiler Arguments).

Help for PowerPoint 2007 crash when running embedded SWF file with latest Flash Player?

I have developed in Xcelsius 2008 SP4 a dashboard with only Excel as the source. I output to PowerPoint and then save it as a PowerPoint 2003 PPS file. On more than a few machines that have PowerPoint 2007, PowerPoint crashes when I attempt to run the presentation. This happens only with later versions of Flash Player. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the latest Flash Player but it still crashes. However, when I revert back to Flash Player 10.1.159..., in PP 2007 the presentation runs perfectly.
With regard to the error I receive in PowerPoint 2007, it is as follows:

on the first glance I see these: data="file:///Macintosh HD/Users/user/Documents/Website/Working.swf", what means the path to your swf file is pointing to your local hard drive which nobody can see except you. Please replace all thes pathes with the correct ones and load up your file(s) again.
If the problem remains, please send a link to your website in question, no matter how it looks like..

Swf file with external video not playing properly in Captivate 5

So I'm trying to create a captivate project using swf file that has code that loads external flv inside of it.
It all works great when I test it in flash but once I export it and insert it in Captivate the screens don't synchronize.
The content of the video starts playing as soon as the project starts even though it's not on that video slide and when
I try to scroll through the project the audio of that video screen doesn't stop.
Anyone has an idea why this is happening, could it be my code in flash that's affecting it?

Unfortunately, no. I gave up on the idea of inserting question slides in the middle of videos. That means I no longer have videos distributed across multiple slides, which I assume was causing the problem. Now, I only insert quiz slides AFTER the video slide. Not preferred but that's what I ended up with.
I have recently upgraded to 7. I haven't had a chance to see if the issue is fixed in 7. To be honest I am having many issues getting my courses to play properly on the iPad. I am using all the default functions and quiz slides, but I continue to run into problems.

I had been using Adobe Presenter 7 until recently and I have now upgraded to Presenter 10 for use within Powerpoint 2013. Unfortunately I am having quite a few issues with it.
I am using it to make presentations built up of imported video files, as I had been doing before with Presenter 7 without any issue. I typically have a presentation of 6 parts and import each video file ~80MB Mp4 into a single slide then name each slide adding a presenter and output it to an 'swf' file. This worked fine in Presenter 7.0.7. Now my issue is that the output will load the player it will have the correct presenter, and timings on the chaptered sidebar but when it plays the presentation area of the screen is just white, there's no audio, no video just the correct time for each section. I've checked the output folder the individual video files will play within windows media player without issue.
It should be noted that the html5 only version works fine, until uploaded to a web server and then it will not load any of the player with IE11 (I can't test it in other browsers).
I would appreciate some help with this if anyone has any ideas to fix this.

Well make sure you have read and write permissions on the file. Do a get info in the video (command-I) and alter it as necessary.

Embedding Button symbol from swf

Hi,
I am embedding a Button Symbol into Flex from from a swf. The Button inside the swf has an up and over state. Now I embed the symbol into an image in Flex. The image is in one of my states.
All works fine initially in Flex as far as the up over state. Now the The problem is when I go back to the base state and then back to the state with the embedded swf symbol.....it initializes still in the over state, until I mouse over then mouse out and now its in the Up state.   What could be the probelm here??

I'm not following you, why do I need a button?.....can create Mouse over and out events like this?:

Embedded swf not playing in Captivate 4

Hi - I have embedded a flash authored swf into CP4, it is published from flash as a ver 9 swf. I am using Flash Player 10 on the PC. It's a single frame swf and contains AS3 code to make a simple rollover image popup (further development is planned but just testing for now). It works when viewed standalone in a browser or with the flash player
In CP4 when played by either previewing it or by publishing and viewing in a browser, the screen with that swf on it is a 'white screen of death'. I have tried the following:
1. clicking and unclicking synchronise with project
2. click and unclick externalize animations check box in prefs - the swf file was also manually copied over to the publish directory
3. set display for "duration of animation"..also tried 'rest of slide' and 'specific time'
4. click and unclick - 'synchronise with project'
5. Set Actionscript Version in prefs to "AS3"
6. I placed another different swf (flash ver9) onto the following slide in CP4 - this one with no Actionscript content at all - just a simple timeline based motion tween. It works!
Does anyone know if CP4 cannot accept embedded swf's with Actionscript 3 code in them?

Oftentimes the warning about referencing Root is simply a nuisance and may be totally ignored.
I find that the animation works here on my own PC if I click Edit > Preferences... > Project node > Publish Settings node and configure for AS3.
Perhaps try that?

Embeding symbols from a swf created with mxmlc

I am trying to bundle my resources in seperate swf files then use them in another flex project. I create this bundles from a wizard i wrote in AIR. AIR app calls mxmlc to compile bundle.as and i dynamicaly load bundle.swf. I can access resources from this bundled swf using ApplicationDomain.getDefinition(). No problem there
However i also want to use my wizard to edit prexisting bundles. Problem is i cannot embed resource from original bundle to new bundle. I mainly use Sprite and ByteArray assets in bundles.
To simplfy problem i prepared following test. Created a bundle application to create bundle swf in flex. The project has 4 files: 2 .as files, 1 .png file, 1 .swf file( from FLA which has a symbol linked "Fill" )

The second project can only see Bitmap asset as symbol. But could not find Sprite asset.
We depend heavily on vector graphics from Flash, and byte array assets embeded with
[Embed(source='x.ba', mimeType="application/octet-stream")]
I could write byte array assets into a temp dir and embed them again but i cannot do it with Sprites. How can i solve this problem.

Interesting problem. What happens if you encapsulate the embed in the first Bundle?
Something like this:

Video playback in embedded swf

Hi,
I'm building a website in flash catalyst that uses an embedded swf also created in catalyst. The site is for a musician, and one of the pages (states) loads a swf file that contains a list of videos the user can select and play. That swf was also made in catalyst. This works.
When I navigate away from the video page to the Bio page (for instance), the video stops playing, which is good. The problem though, is when I return to the video page, the video resumes right where it was when I left the page. This is a bit jarring... I'd really like the video to stop playing for real when the user navigates away, so that when he/she returns to the page, its in the default state... With nothing playing.
Can anyone help? I'm stuck here.

you need to make your own controls and you need to learn some
basic actionscript: controlling playhead movement along a timeline
is about as basic as it gets. check the movieclip gotoAndPlay(),
gotoAndStop() methods.

Embedding video in an embeded SWF

Hello people. I'm building a site with a flip book component.
The book is a movie and then I load the pages via an XML file. The
pages are SWF files. You can see the book at

Now, If I add a video on a particular page by embedding it in
the flash movie, I will be able to see it when I test that
particular page, but it wont show when I test the whole book. So
basically, my problem is: the video shows ok in the file where it
is embedded but not in the main SWF file that calls the SWF file
containing the video. Any idea will be appreciated.

Hard to tell exactly what you are doing -
allow me to quote you:

not exactly sure what that means - are you importing an mpeg
into flash to the timeline?
you cant import into an embeded video - that sounds like you
already have a video file in your FLA
and are trying to import another video "into" it - cant be
true and must be a typo.
Make it easier for us to help you by explaining in detail
what you are doing.

I'm seeking a little guidance -
How do I create/host interactive articles with embedded video for use in browsers?
The aim is to bring together video, design, images and writing in one place. A little like Born Presents, but very accessible and user friendly.
I'm happy using InDesign but want to create interactive articles / magazines that have embeded video files as required. I've been looking at .SWF files but I've come unstuck.
I want people to view the articles via a blog, ideally with them opening in a lightbox style viewer. It's not intended for tablet viewing and people should be able to view and interact with the files with little effort on their part.
I think I know how to create these files within InDesign, but I'm not so hot on web design and I'm not sure how to host these online. Does this start coming into the realms of Flash?

PDF is one thing. Folios for DPS is another. There is a little bit of
overlap but not much.
The interactivity in the folio overlays panel is for DPS only.

Embedded SWF video = slow loading page?

Hello and good morning,
I have recently created a website on DreamWeaver 8 with three
SWF videos (not FLV but SWF) embedded on it. The videos are
supposed to be set at "progressive download" but the page takes
ages to load up, as if the browser was loading up the videos as it
loads up the page itself.
Any ideas? Thank you!

I should have noted in my first post that this was through Firefox... But regarding IE 8 (im using Windows 7 on my PC) it's slow from the very start and will sometimes skip, stutter and even completely stop half way through.
The original animation test should be much quicker.. about 4 seconds.
Im wondering if anyone else can verify this on their browser?

Which program would export a swf with embedded mp3?

And not export with it in a Resource folder, as i need to upload one file with music embedded within?
I am currently exporting from INDD but the interactive mp3 is exported in a seperate resource folder, and I wish to upload the SWF to a website home page as a single file, thanks!
