En_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707217.iso installation on DOS

Hi,
I have en_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707217.ISO of windows 8.1 pro.
I ave ordered for Lenovo machine that comes with free dos i.e. Lenovo Essential G510 (59-398343) Laptop (4th Gen Ci5/ 4GB/ 500GB/ DOS).
I want to install windows 8.1 pro (mentinoed above) on this machine. I couldn't find any documentation showing how to install and perhaps whether installation is possible. Any guidance please.
Thanks, Pravin

Hi,
To install Windows 8.1 from ISO file, we need to use it to create a installation media:
Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200124.aspx
Enter BIOS on your new computer and choose USB as the first boot option.
Then, please try to install the Windows 8.1 from USB.
Hope these could be helpful.

It sounds like you destroyed your boot partition and the recovery partition.  Depending on it's age, your MacBook Air might be able to do a net boot.  Plug and ethernet connection into it and attempt to boot.  If it has the right firmware, it will find a net boot configuration on the net and boot that.  Then it will give you a Recovery Partition like display and allow you to reinstall the OS X version that came with it.... assuming that it was Lion or ML.  If your computer came with Snow Leopard, then even the net boot won't work.
At that point you need a bootable USB Key, or an external DVD drive AND a Snow Leopard installation DVD.
An Apple Store, if there is one nearby, MAY be able to get you going again.  However, whatever is on the SSD now will be toast too.

  • [SOLVED]New Arch Linux ISO Installation Help.

    Hi All,
I am trying to install Arch Linux using new ISO. For some reason I am unable to log into Arch Forums on Windows and I am writing this on my tablet. I will add more info (proper quote, etc.) as soon as I am able to log in a laptop browser. That being said I am trying to install Arch using new ISO. Here is what I did.
    Partition using cfdisk /, /home , /swap and /boot.
    Format all these in ext4.
Create folders in mnt - root, home, swap, boot.
    mount partitions in mnt folders.
    Pacstrap /mnt base base-devel
    Error
ERROR: /mnt is not a mount point!
I install in /mnt/root which probably doesnt touch other partitions like home boot and swap.
I follow other steps on installation wiki and reboot takes me back to windows.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

You don't need a root folder. /mnt is the root mount point. Before you mount boot and home:
    mount /dev/sdax /mnt
where "x" is the number of your /root partition.
    then
    mkdir /mnt/boot
    mount /dev/sdax /mnt/boot
    mkdir /mnt/home
    mount /dev/sdax /mnt/home
(replace "x" in all the /dev/sdax with the correct partitions.)

  • Windows 10 clean ISO installation rather than upgrade

Good moring I not upgraded to Windows10 yet. I read somewhere that Microsoft allow a fresh installation using ISO rather than using Microsoft Update.Since I already upgraded from 8 to 8.1, I think that performing a clean, fresh Windows 10 installation is the best option. Does someone have an idea of the steps reqired to download the ISO and installal a clean Microsoft10? And, more important, what's about Windows10 activation? It is automatic by reading my Bios Product KEY or what? Thank you

here is the link that i will share with you  and i use this and i did it from installing directly on the pc which i did not put on flash drive and disc and i did not have any problems on my 3 units except for my old laptop but it works all fine just the nvida error on the .dll which is 2 of it but my graphic and desktop looks fine and no viewing problems  other than that i can do what ever i need to do and just like a normal operation btw that old laptop has the upgrade of w7 from vista  here is the link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10  good luck

Only time I've seen stuff like this is when a proxy "scans" the downloaded .exe-files during download. Could that be the case in your scenario as well?

  • Yosemite 10.10.1 Bootcamp Installation Windows 8.1 from an ISO

    Hello,
as in my topic described I am looking to install
    Yosemite 10.10.1
Bootcamp Installation Windows 8.1 from an ISO
I am using an MBP early 2011 without DVD Drive - but I have 2 SSD Drives inside (500GB und 128GB)
I want to use the 128 GB Drive for the Bootcamp installation, as I need it for some specific Sports Software which is just available for Windows, which was already running on my factory delivered 250GB HDD Drive.
The Problem is that bootcamp does not tell me there is an option for a ISO installation like it should display on macs which will be manufactured without an super drive. And so i can not install the ISO to the bootcamp drive.
I have an USB Stick with 8GB and an 8.1 ISO disk.
I do not want to reinstall my dvd super drive.
Hope you can help me out with a description on how to do - I am quite technical so can do some tasks ;-)
    Merry xmas

Yes. It also helps if there are any calculations to be done with disk sectors.
My optical drive works fine, but I moved to France and didn't bring any disks. Would it be easier and safer to just burn my windows iso onto a disc and run it through bootcamp that way? I'm thinking the answer is yes at this point.
Yes, if you have a built-in Optical drive, Bootcamp expects to boot from the Optical drive, because it sets the CSM-BIOS layer for Windows to boot from the Optical drive settings in the NVRAM.
I'm about to head out to celebrate a birthday, but I will post back here in about 14 hours.
    Enjoy the party!
Do you recommend just buying a DVD and doing it that way? I could easily return my info.plist to normal, and as far as I know, my optical drive works fine. Seems simpler if it would work with my copies of osx and windows. What do you recommend?
The changes in info.plist enable creation of the USB, but do not influence the boot device pointer that BCA will set when switching to the Windows Installer. My recommendation is to get DVD writable media (DVD+R or equivalent) and burn the ISO to a physical DVD and use BCA to install windows using the BCA USB and DVD media.

    Matt_Millard, You're right,
I want to install ovmm into ovs dom0.
Is this prohibited or just unsupported by oracle?
There are some unofficial instructions about this way, like

Looks like it works on previus versions of ovmm and ovs.

  • Use updates repository during OS installation?

I'm building a RHEL6 VM with VMWare Studio at present. One of my requirements is to have the OVA pre-patched with all the latest available OS updates from Red Hat. I managed to get this working by adding an application pre-install step that temporarily adds a yum repo file that points to a local server with all the latest updates pre-downloaded, running 'yum upgrade -y' and then removing the repo file again.
This all seemed to work fine, except that the updates included a kernel update, which resulted in the VMWare Tools daemon process failing to start when the machine was deployed. vmware-config-tools.pl needed to be run (from the system console) to get around this.
I tried adding 'vmware-config-tools.pl -d' to my application pre-install step after the OS patching completed. However, this only operates against the currently loaded kernel, rather than the one that has just been downloaded and applied. That is, I would need the system to reboot after being patched, before running this will have the desired effect.
Hence my question - is there a way that I can configure my build profile such that the Red Hat installation process will take any update packages from my updates repository in preference to what is included on the ISO installation media? This would ensure the latest kernel is loaded when the system reboots after the OS install step and thereby obviate the need for me to run vmware-config-tools.pl at all (since VMWare Tools only gets installed after that point anyway).
For the time being, I've applied a workaround whereby the 'vmware-config-tools.pl -d' command is executed on first boot, but this is clunky in my opinion and adds significantly to the first boot start time of the VM.
I've considered building a custom RHEL ISO using all the available updates. I'm not sure what checksums I might need to update in the ISO image though, or what other problems this may introduce.
    Any thoughts appreciated!
    Thanks,
    John

Although I have not tried this, it might work.  Can you add your yum repo in the kickstart %post of your RHEL 6 Template?  If it allows you to do a full yum update on the chrooted file system, it would be followed by a reboot before tools are installed.  The template is probably found in /opt/vmware/etc/build/<RHEL 6 TEMPLATE DIR>/<RHEL 6 FILE>.xsl.

  • Latest releng ISO's

Ok i really didn't know where or even if i should post this but i just wanted to thanks the releng devs for their work.
I had some problems in the past but the latest releases really seem to shape up nicely.
The latest 2011.05.12 ISO especially  (found @: http://releng.archlinux.org/isos/ ) installs perfectly without a single glitch on me.
Now i know that one guy running a standard setup with success doesn't say much, but i encourage more people to try them since a "final" version doesn't look far in my eyes.

i cannot put any information about these images on the download page because that would cause too much traffic.

  • Boot USB installation as EFI

    Hello!
Before I have installed arch linux successfully using dvd and usb stick on my old bios based computer.
I have currently an efi motherboard (asus maximus v gene) and I can't get the installation media (archiso) to boot.
I'm currently using Windows 7 x64 and desperately trying to switch back to arch.
This time there is the EFI directory on the iso file ARCH_201212 necessary to boot on efi platform.
I have tried multiple different things to make it boot:
    1. On Windows: format as FAT32, extract the content of the iso to the usb stick.
    2. Install arch to vmware directly from iso.
----a. dd iso to usb stick
----b. set disk type to ef00 (EFI), mkfs.vfat -F32 partition 1, extract contents of the iso to usb
----c. set disk type to 0700 (Microsoft basic data), mkfs.vfat -F32 partition 1, extract contents of the iso to usb
None of these boot on my real hardware. Most of the time I go to bios, pick boot override: UEFI usb stick and it will just blink one time and return to the boot override -menu.
One time (I don't remember which one of the above) it tried to boot and just printed
    boot0: gpt
    boot0: error
    boot0: gpt
    boot0: error
This time I thought that it was close to boot, but couldn't find out a way to fix this so I continued to try different things.
I have also set up efi firmware on vmware. Vmware does not boot directly off the usb. I have to wait for the efi shell, then change to the usb stick, cd to EFI/boot and run bootx64.efi manually.
Next it still won't boot but instead drop to interactive shell since it cannot access the files on usb stick it already mounted. So, I unmount the usb stick, mount it back and exit the shell. After this Arch booted successfully on vmware.
So, I can get it to boot on vmware manually, but not on real hardware.
Why is it so damn hard to get this to boot?
Are those iso installation files created automatically without any testing whether they work or not?
How do I make it to boot from an usb stick?

I just took a look at the manual for your motherboard, as found on Gigabyte's site. It's dated 2006 and makes no mention of EFI, so I'm skeptical that it's an EFI implementation or that the Gigabyte Hybrid EFI bug I encountered is related to the problem you had with FAT32. Since Wilhelm has an ASUS board, it's even less likely that he's running into that problem. That's not to say that filesystem damage or bugs in filesystem handling couldn't be contributing to the problem, though.
You´re right. Mine doesn´t have EFI firmware. I´ve just mentioned it because very similar symptoms that I had with booting with FAT32  formated USB stick. Eg. sucesfully mounted but unavailability of some files, that were actually present. I know that it shouldn´t been  the same problem because of different firmware, but who knows.
I have tried this with both 1Gb and 8Gb usb stick, so the partition size shouldn't be the cause.
And did you tried it with FAT16? I´ve mentioned the partition size because of FAT16 size limit. 1GB stick can be formated to FAT16 without problem.

  • Disk Utility crashes attempting burn .iso

I'm a very new user of a PPC G4 that I came across and have no experience of these machines. It's running OS X 10.3.9. I've installed Ubuntu with dual boot on a separate drive OK but had to burn the Ubuntu .iso installation CD on a system running XP. Articles I've read tell me that Disk Utility should be able to do this by dragging the file name into the left pane and selecting Burn. This works OK with a .dmg file but when a .iso file is used (any .iso, not just Ubuntu) Disk Utility crashes with an unspecified Internal Error. The CD burned form the .dmg does not boot, so is of no use for installation purposes. Any help appreciated.
    John

You may be able to use a simple Burn utility that makes
either CD or DVD media recordings on blank media for
use in either Mac &/or PC format. Not sure if one can
simply use a utility such as this:
    • Burn - home:
    http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html
    • CharlesSoft - has an app called BootCD that may work:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    • How to create a Bootable CD in Mac OS X - FAQ:
    http://www.index-site.com/bootcd.html
There are limitations and some restrictions, after a fashion,
that slow the idea of making a copy of a Mac OS install disc.
+(Copyrights, end-user-rules, conditions of use, etc will apply.)+
That is another matter; one method includes Disk Utility, &
for large size systems, a Dual-Layer DVD recorder is needed.
To make a workable copy of your non-Mac unix OS disc
and have it be a bootable copy. The format of the media
has to be correct. As does the method of copying an image.
Some kinds of items require making a Clone, not an Image.
    There are some rules to make a copy of an OS disc bootable;
even so, the rules for a non-Mac system could be different.
Hopefully some ideas of how to accomplish the task can be found.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Custom install.wim install problem

I will try to describe what I did in as much detail and as clearly as possible, maybe someone can give me a clue.
I installed a Windows 8 professional 64 bit on a Hyper-V virtual machine. The ISO I used is a MSDN retail version:
    en_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707217.iso
    SHA1 checked and OK.
    Windows installed without any problems.
I updated the OS with all available updates.
Run sysprep „Enter audit mode” to delete the temp user I used to install the os and the updates
Then sysprep again „OOBE”, generalize and shutdown.
Booted from a windows PE iso, captured the install.wim with DSIM.
Now comes the fun part. From the same iso used to install the virtual machine, en_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707217.iso, created a bootable USB. Tried to install windows 8.1 as it is on a computer, no problem, it works.
I then tried to replace the install.win from the original ISO with the one containing the updates (the one I created above).
When I try to install this time, After I enter the key, I get the „The product key entered does not match ...” error.
I added the ei.cfg to the USB drive. This time the error comes right after pressing the „install” button.
    Where could be the problem?

Ok. I'm back with the results.
DISM in WinPE iso is now version 6.3.9600.16384, so the one from Windows 8.1 ADK.
    Test 1.
Installed windows 8.1 pro on the VM with the VM not connected to the internet (to avoid installing any updates)
    Syprep
    Imaged with command: dism /Capture-Image /CaptureDir:D:\ /ImageFile:S:\install.wim /Name:"Win8Pro"
    /CheckIntegrity
Inserted the captured image into the install media
    Tried to install and worked
    Test 2.
Installed windows 8.1 pro on the VM with the VM not connected to the internet (to avoid installing any updates)
Connected the VM to the internet and installed all updates
    Syprep
    Imaged with command: dism /Capture-Image /CaptureDir:D:\ /ImageFile:S:\install.wim /Name:"Win8Pro"
    /CheckIntegrity
Inserted the captured image into the install media
Tried to install and failed with the error mentioned in my original question
So the problem is somewhere in the updates. Something changes and makes the image unusable.
The files in C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\ActionFiles are changed from the original install media files, by some update. The problem could be in there.
install.wim info has the same problem: no edition flag set.

Setup is starting, and then get two options Upgrade and
Custom which is the classic setup wizard which we can see during booting from DVD.
Click Upgrade to run upgrade installation, however, the error occurs.
It seems that it is impossible to perform upgrade installation to Windows 10 Technical Preview, although it is fine to click
Custom to perform clean installation which cannot keep the personal setting and applications.
However, what we want is upgrade installation, not clean installation.
Step 2: Perform the scenario 2: the upgrade installation works fine.
If extract the ISO installation to C:\New in the above step2, click the
setup.exe from the installation file C:\New\9841.0.140912-1613.FBL_RELEASE_CLIENTENTERPRISE_VOL_X64FRE_EN-US\, the upgrade installation would work fine, which is as shown the following two figures:
    Step 3: Check the setupact.log
file which contains information about setup actions during the installation of the two scenarios.
Scenario 1: Check the setupact.log file of the scenario 1. The detailed information is shown as below:

Scenario 2: Check the setupact.log file of the scenario 2. The detailed information is shown as below:
2014-10-14 19:08:04, Info UI Determining whether we should run ConX or legacy setup

According to the two logs, we can get the following points:
In scenario 1, it would invoke the SetupPrep.exe in the source folder directly to perform an installation preparation. However, it failed to recognize the path
C:\New folder\9841.0.140912-1613.FBL_RELEASE_CLIENTENTERPRISE_VOL_X64FRE_EN-US\Sources\SetupPrep.exe. Then it would launch legacy setup.
In the scenario 2, Windows setup would be redirected to the ConX setup to perform upgrade installation automatically.
So, what is the difference of the scenario 1 and 2 to bring the different results of upgrade installation?
    Workaround
Based on lots of testing, we find that if there is no space in the extracting location of the ISO installation
file, the upgrade installation would work fine.
What’s more, we can get the meaning of the two setup models in the setupact.log:
Legacy setup: it is same with setup from DVD boot.
ConX setup: it would check the compatibility and language UI for upgrade preparation, then perform migration and upgrade directly.

    Hello,
I would guess that existence of a space in the folder name is what the issue is.  Try removing the space from the folder name and see if works. New_Folder for example
