Use updates repository during OS installation?

I'm building a RHEL6 VM with VMWare Studio at present. One of my requirements is to have the OVA pre-patched with all the latest available OS updates from Red Hat. I managed to get this working by adding an application pre-install step that temporarily adds a yum repo file that points to a local server with all the latest updates pre-downloaded, running 'yum upgrade -y' and then removing the repo file again.
This all seemed to work fine, except that the updates included a kernel update, which resulted in the VMWare Tools daemon process failing to start when the machine was deployed. vmware-config-tools.pl needed to be run (from the system console) to get around this.
I tried adding 'vmware-config-tools.pl -d' to my application pre-install step after the OS patching completed. However, this only operates against the currently loaded kernel, rather than the one that has just been downloaded and applied. That is, I would need the system to reboot after being patched, before running this will have the desired effect.
Hence my question - is there a way that I can configure my build profile such that the Red Hat installation process will take any update packages from my updates repository in preference to what is included on the ISO installation media? This would ensure the latest kernel is loaded when the system reboots after the OS install step and thereby obviate the need for me to run vmware-config-tools.pl at all (since VMWare Tools only gets installed after that point anyway).
For the time being, I've applied a workaround whereby the 'vmware-config-tools.pl -d' command is executed on first boot, but this is clunky in my opinion and adds significantly to the first boot start time of the VM.
I've considered building a custom RHEL ISO using all the available updates. I'm not sure what checksums I might need to update in the ISO image though, or what other problems this may introduce.
Any thoughts appreciated!
Thanks,
John

Although I have not tried this, it might work.  Can you add your yum repo in the kickstart %post of your RHEL 6 Template?  If it allows you to do a full yum update on the chrooted file system, it would be followed by a reboot before tools are installed.  The template is probably found in /opt/vmware/etc/build/<RHEL 6 TEMPLATE DIR>/<RHEL 6 FILE>.xsl.

Got an update notice the other day that a critical security update needed to be done right away. The update downloaded and then 90% through the installation it all froze. I can't do anything with the screen. Anyone out there have a suggestion?

As stevejobsfan0123 explained perfectly, Classic apps only works with Mac OS X 10.4 or older, so it's not possible to run it on your Mac, but there's another problem: MathCAD 15 isn't compatible with OS X, so you will have to buy the Windows version and install Windows on Boot Camp > http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.I've never had this problem before... today I opened iTunes and it prompted me to download the newest version.  I use iTunes all the time and have updated it multiple times with no issues.  During the installation process it gave me an error message that said:
    Runtime error!
    Program C:\Program Files\iTunes.exe
    R0634
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I quit the installation, uninstalled iTunes and rebooted my computer.  I now receive a similar message with a slight difference:
    Runtime error!
    Program C:\Program Files (x86)...
    R0634
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I did not leave anything out from the error message.  It doesn't point to a specific file, it just ends with "(x86)..."  Every time I boot up my computer, this error message pops up on my desktop.
How do I repair this issue?  I have found multiple suggested solutions but am unsure which one is the best, and I don't want to try a bunch of different things for fear I may make the problem worse.  I would like to try and fix this myself if possible but I need to know if that is really possible or if I need to take my computer to someone for repairs.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi lustyln,
I'm having a little trouble understanding all of what you are trying to explain. From what I can tell, it sounds like your PC has a lot of software problems and you want to know what is supposed to be there and what isn't.
For reference, here are your product specifications:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01893242&lc=en&product=4043282
To get your PC software back to how it was when it was first purchased, run a system recovery:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01867418&lc=en&product=4043282
    I hope this helps.

    error writing to file: C:\Program
    files\ i tunes\ i tunes.Resources\ja.lproj\AppleTVStream
itxib. Verify that you have access to that directory
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Hello. Today, I was updating my iPod Touch 4th Generation to iOS 6. I unplugged the iPod when it was during the installation because it appeared to be frozen. Now the iPod is stuck at a light blue screen even after I reset it. How do I fix it?

You will need to do a DFU restore by holding the home and power buttons down (while the device is plugged in to your computer) until the device's screen goes black and as soon as the screen goes black, count down from 3 and release the power/sleep button, but keep holding down the home button. Then, iTunes will say the iPod needs to be restored. The restore process will take some time and even though the iPod may appear to be frozen, don't interrupt the restore.

  • About the amount of hard disk memory used during Testdrive installation

    Dear all,
I have a question about installing SAP Netweaver Testdrive on Redhat Linux Enterprise 5.3. Currently I have a virtual machine (sun virtualbox) where Windows Vista is host and the guest operating system is RHLE 5.3 (32 bit). For doing several tests I would like to install the Testdrive on this linux system. Yet, the total available virtual hard disk memory is about 15 GB and I have already used more than 6GB.
Is there any way to specify the amount of hard disk memory used by Netweaver once it installs DB2 on the system? Because as it seems to me it takes more than 15 GB just for the database. But I'm not sure whether the whole space is really needed, particularly in my case where the aim of use is just for ABAP development and tests (for self-training).
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind Regards,

    Hi,
You can refer the specific installation guide for the minimum disk space requirement.
Whatever functionality you use you need minimum space as mentioned in the installation guide.
You can configure slightly more memory than given in the installation guide to be safer.

  • How to delete original repository and use new repository

    Hello,
I installed GRID 10204 and I selected to create the repository during the grid installation process. The grid 10204 installed a database repository version 10104.
I created a 10201 database and patched it to 10204. Now I want to use this 10204 database as my GRID repository. I don't care about the 10104 database and want to drop this repository. How do I drop the 10104 repository and use the new 10204 as the new repository. I don't need any data on the 10104. Thank you.

    Hmmmm.
When you install grid, it has a whole load of config data in various files that the oms uses.
Its not a simple case of swapping your databases over.
You do have a few options
    - start again. Install grid again but use the existing database option
    - upgrade your 10104 database
Anything else is likely to be waste of a time. You can try and import the sysman schema from the 10104 to the 10204 database. Get the 10204 database on the same server where the 10104 was and rename the 10204 database to to the same name as the 10104. You might then have to reconfigure the repository target to update the oracle home etc.
To be honest, reinstall or upgrade really is the safest and quickest bet.

  • ITunes / Quicktime won't install - error message during in installation

My computer, a Dell running with Windows Vista, has not been able to have iTunes & Quicktime installed on it in months. I've attempted to install it a countless number of times & tried a variety of things with my computer to install it but it just doesn't work - I get the same error message everytime. I can't even remember what happened to make it start acting so ridiculous.
It always starts out looking good and everything seems to be working pretty well, the green bar filling up pretty quickly, but then the 'Status' gets to about 'Publishing product information' and the error message pops up and I can't install it. It goes along the lines of "A error occurred during the installation of assembly: ..." then it goes on to say 'Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8007054F'. Here's a screenshot of the error message with the long whatever on it:
    http://i46.tinypic.com/qoesm1.png
I believe I get the same message even when I attempt to download the two software separately (iTunes & Quicktime).
Can any one tell me what needs to be done? I have no idea what to try anymore. All help will be much appreciated. Thank you .
P.S.: If it helps, I can't really reinstall Internet Explorer (removed it when I downloaded Firefox).

    Thanks!
    (3) And I do not believe I have Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 installed on this computer, as I just tried to install it and I received this error message: http://i45.tinypic.com/a3m7bc.png
Okay ... that rules out one possible treatment. Sometimes people with the redistributable installed can get past this by applying a security update for it ... but it looks like the same sorts of problems are preventing it from installing.
    (2) And last time I checked my History I had several failures I believe, however now I only see one failed update, that being Update for Windows (KB944036). The error code listed 8000FFFF. Apparently it's an update for Internet Explorer 8.
The other primary strategy we (I?) have for dealing with these is to attempt to treat any underlying issues on the PC that prevent Windows Updates from installing. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that your 8000FFFF is related to your IE being uninstalled, I think we'd probably better try following up on the following document:
[Error when you download updates using Windows Update or Microsoft Update: 8000FFFF|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414]
After applying those measures, do your Windows update and/or iTunes installation failures clear up?

OK.  If both of you are Windows 7.  Make sure you go to Windows update (START button, type in Windows Update). Check for updates and update whatever that are available. (especially Microsoft .NET Framework 4 )
After that see if you still get this error message.
The last resort would be to unistall and reinstall the whole thing.
    Follow the steps below:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
