Encoding issue with Chinese and Japanese characters but not for Korean

Hi All,
I am dealing with the problem below and have tried a lot of options to correct this. Could anyone help me resolve the issue?
Some japanese text is returned to my jsp from SAP, the text looks like ‚P‚T“ú’÷“–ŒŽ––Œ»‹à .
When I manually set the encoding of my browser to Shift-JIS, the problem is resolved and the text is seen as 15日締当月末現金
However, I set my response.setContentType as Shift-JIS, the browser automatically selects the encoding as Shift-JIS, but my characters get displayed as ??????
I had a similar problem with Korean characters, and I used,
decodedString = new String(strToBeDecoded.getBytes("iso-8859-1"),"EUC-KR");
It worked and I did not have to use the setContentType method of servlet response. This code however does not work for either Japanese or Chinese characters.
Please let me know, if there is anyway of getting the characters right on the screen.
I am using Sun Java Application Server 8.1.
Thanks,
Priya

Get rid of legacy character encodings and just use UTF-8 all the way.

  • Highlight File Format and PDF Documents with Chinese and English characters

    I'm a developer working on an application that makes use of the Highlight File Format / external highlight server capabilities of Adobe Reader.
    The highlighting worked correctly until we started to introduce pdf documents that were scanned to recognize Chinese in addition to English.
    The xml file seems to have the correct values in it. For example, if the 10 characters to highlight are at position 41 on the first page. The "xml" file has the <loc pg=0 pos=41 len=10>.
    If the document is scanned for English only, it works fine. That is, the highlight starts at character 41. If the same document is scanned for Chinese and English, the highlight starts at character 22.
    Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you know a solution?

    Hi,
    I don't know about BIP and the specifics of your context, but here are some general answers for the XLIFF format:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'utf-8'?>
    Can we change encoding to 'ISO-8859-1' as soon as we convert the file format ?If you also save the file to ISO-8859-1 as well yes. But you can do this only for languages supported by Latin-1. It makes sense to keep the files in UTF-8.
    A-2) he section <header><skl><internal-file> contains a huge string
    which seeem to be binary ... What is this ? can we delete it ?That's likely to be the skeleton file. The data used to rebuild the original format after translation.
    Most likely it should stay there.
    A-3) Can we have one XLF file with muliple <file> sections (one per language to translate to ) ?
    This can be very useful for us to manage one only translation file per report template.Yes but no: yves you can have several <file> elements in an XLIFF document, but no: they must be for the same language pair. XLIFF is designed to work with bi-lingual files, not multi-lingual files.
    A-4) the most important section for translation is included in the <trans-unit> tag .
    Each one has a distinct id like ""49e41f8f" ... Can we replace this by a more meaningfull value ?Those id attributes are used by the filter to merge back the data after translation. You should preserve them.
    A-5) the language format is like "en-US" (language code + territory code).
    Is it case sensitive ? No it is not case-sensitive (en-us == en-US). The values of xml:lang are not case sensitive (unlike other XML attribute values).
    en-US is just the recommended notation.
    The XLIFF specification are here:
    http://docs.oasis-open.org/xliff/xliff-core/xliff-core.html
    Hope this helps,

  • Printing from web pages is excruciatingly slow with most recent upgrades of Firefox .Use an iMac and an HP officejet printer. Printer works fine with Safari and woodprocessed files, but not with Firefox and web pages.

    Printing from web pages is excruciatingly slow since downloading most recent upgrades of Firefox Mozilla. I have a desktop iMac, OS 10.6.8, and an HP officejet printer 4500 G510n. The printer works fine with the Safari Browser and with woodprocessed files, but not with Firefox and web pages. Help please! It used to print fast with earlier versions of Firefox.

    Hello and welcome to the Apple Discussions Forum.
    I have hardly any experience with HP printers but since your posting has not been replied to yet I thought I'd offer some assistance.
    With the printer status and ink levels working, it shows that you have a connection to the printer. So I would look at the issue being with the protocol being used for the print queue on the Mac.
    Since you have XP and Vista working, I would check the printer queue configuration on either box. In XP, go to the Properties and select Ports. Click the Configure Port tab to view the connection. If you are using RAW, then this is known as HP Jetdirect-Socket on OS X. So if you are not sure what protocol was used before I would create another printer queue, this time selecting IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket. Then enter your IP address and select the K5400dn from the Print Using menu.
    If this still fails to print then please reply. There may be limitations with adding the HP driver this way that I am not aware of. There may also be other driver options you can look at, such as HPIJS. If Greg Sahli reads this posting he has expert knowledge on this matter and will be able to offer some guidance.

  • Position encoder works with PCI-MIO-16E-4 but not with PCI-6062E, why?

    I am using A BNC-2090 to connect Agilent HEDS-6540 position encoder to my PCI-6052E. The application works fine with my 12 bit NI card PCI-MIO-16E-4, But with the new card I get extra counts in my position. ex 1052 pulses when it is only supposed to be 1000 counts in a complete revolution. This setup still works great with the old card, meaning I can just plug into the other card and run the same app on the same computer, just a different device number. I have not been able to figure this out.

    You might be seeing the affects of dithing with your signal. I'm not sure why it would be on one board, though not the other, one counter must be more sensitive. Anyway, dithering is caused by vibration or other outside forces that cause small glitches that add to the count total for the counter. There is a way around this, and that is to use a counte convertor. There is a page on this website that tells how to make one. The link is below. I would sugget trying this to see if it will fix the problem.

  • Speakers work for phone and other apps, but not for music playback on 4G after downloading ios 8.0.2

    I know others are having off the wall issues with sound on their iPhones after installing the iOS 8.0.2...In my case? Thank God the sound for phone calls and alarms work, but the same can't be said for when I try to play music or a radio app?? And the speaker option on my voice mail sticks....
    There are 1001 other issues that I have with this so called upgrade, and let's just say that I've been looking at using my AT&T other phone options since I'm ready to upgrade....Since this is the second time in about a year that I've gone through **** and back with an Apple OS upgrade and there just isn't the cache there once was with owning an iPhone? I'm seriously questioning why be brand loyal when I can't find an answer to my issue and the one solution is to go to the Apple Store and deal with the arrogant and rude clerks OR try and see if someone has a decent solution, OR wait for weeks for Apple to offer a bug fix or access to older OS's!
    (BTW--I HATE how this OS kills the battery! And I'm not happy with the 2 apps that I didn't want and can't get rid of!)

    I was hoping that the iOS 8.1 update would have fixed my problem, but it has not. The app updates continue to hang and will not up date unless I follow the procedures mentioned earlier. I have spoken to Apple Care, and their only suggestion was to do a network settings reset. This worked once, but on the following days as more app updates appeared, they would not download. Once again, the only way to achieve my goal is to do one of the following;
    Change networks
    Sync through iTunes
    Reset Network Settings
    Turn off Wi Fi and use Cellular Data (not my preferred option especially while at home and connected to my home network).
    I think Apple are loosing the plot and seem to be chasing profits more than producing a good reliable product. I would have respected the company more if they had admitted that iOS8 was not ready for general release rather than release a faulty system causing so many problems.

  • Chinese and Japanese characters in database

    I have Customer table in which Name column can contain Chinese characters. I have given it's datatype as NVARCHAR. I am writing simple SELECT statement. But it is showing question marks instead of Chinese characters. What should I do to get correct data?
    In Below Image, you can see that after 2nd statement, @NAME variable value automatically gets those question marks which is not returning correct answer.

    Hello,
    You have to add the Unicode literal N in front of the string, like
    SET @NAME = N'here comes the text';

    What is your database version ?
    What are your database character sets ?
    Please run and post output of:
    select * from v$version;
    select * from nls_database_parameters where parameter like '%SET%';What is the tool you are using to insert non ASCII characters ? On which OS ?
    Are your sure your OS is able to display Chinese an Japanese characters ?
    Note that SQL*Plus on Windows has limitations and SQL Developer is a better tool for that on Windows.
    Exemple with SQL Developer and Oracle XE on Windows:
    drop table tc purge;
    select * from nls_database_parameters where parameter like '%SET%';
    create table tc(c nvarchar2(10));
    insert into tc values(unistr('\8349'));

  • GUI Download Issue with Chinese characters

    Hello,

    Hi bharat,
    please check whether you ecc 6.0 is uni coded or not (as you upgraded).
    If it is not uni coded then you will not be able to print the Chinese characters.
    You can see whether it is uni coded or not by the following
    in your app toolbar under system click on status.
    There you can see whether your ecc6.0 is uni coded or not.

  • Issue with Download and Loss of Non-ASCII Characters

    I have a need to allow my user to download the contents of an HTML Region as a file. This region contains some Greek letters, i.e. non-ASCII, used with some common finance formulas.
    I am able to copy the contents off this region using JavaScript without any issue.
    Moreover, I can copy the contents from JavaScript into a Page Item and then render the region with PL/SQL. Again, this works without an issue.
    However, when I try to download the region, the Greek letters are lost in the downloaded document. Instead they are replaced with this weird series of characters: (Δ
    I've created a sample app to demonstrate this problem at apex.oracle.com:
    URL: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=34765:1

    Click the button labeled "Copy HTML Via JS" and you will see the statically populated region copied into the second region.
    Click the button labeled "Copy HTML Via APEX" and you will see the statically populated region copied into the third region. This is achieved by copying the HTML into a Page Item and then submitting the page. When the page returns, the value of this Page Item is then used to populate the third region. As you can see, the Greek letters are there as normal.
    However, if you click the "Download HTML" button you will see the the Greek letters are not present in the resulting file.

    The only thing standing between what we have and what we need is getting that meta tag in the output but, I just can't seem to find a way to do this. Actually, we'd really like to have, within the head tags; the meta tag, the style and the title but, not being able to get that meta tag in is the difference between acceptable and broken. It works with the others in the body.

    Also note that these web toolkit methods generate really obsolete HTML, therefore I never use them (and nor does APEX these days).
