"End of file breaks the statement" on "working" MaxL script

Sorry, multipost accidentally. Look for post that is a question...
Edited by: Kevin Cox on Dec 4, 2010 2:52 AM

Different operating systems? Perhaps its not the maxl script but a parameter that gets passed in from the batch script? Certain things change such as the system time variable between operating systems. I remember that caught me out although I wasn't doing anything to do with essbase at the time.
I'm 99% sure this error is generated from the maxl interpreter
e.g. Just created test.mxl and all I put in there was the word login followed by a single unclosed quote and the followingf happen.

    Hi,

    Hi John,

    The last few days I have been constantly saving my file. A couple of hours ago I renamed the file and then reopened my file a little while later, but the most recent work wasn't saved even though I'm sure I saved it before closing. What can I do? Also, when I have tried to email it to myself as a backup, the fields aren't populated when I open it up. Fyi, I have the free subscription.

    Hi Constance,
    As i understand your changes in the pdf were not saved...Are you still facing this issue?

  • Adobe Reader can not open thousands of vital PDF files for the company I work for.

    Adobe Reader can open every PDF file on our server except for the many files that were received by one company. The coding is corrupt and I have not found a solution yet on how to decode it in order for it to open properly.
    I have looked into using uudecode but the online service it provided didn't seem to recognize the code I was putting in.
    The coding to these PDF files looks like this:
    From what I have seen all of the working files are much shorter and the coding is a lot more organized and starts with %PDF
    If anyone can help me decode it or somehow restore it without receiving the file from the original sender, that would be ideal. Any other suggestions are much appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Your analysis is good. All working PDFs will start %PDF. These files may be
    * encoded
    * compressed
    * damaged in transit
    * destroyed by malware
    * not a PDF but mislabelled
    The format is certainly not uuencode/uudecode nor anything I've seen before. I think you need to contact the senders. If they say there isn't a problem, send a file back and ask if it works for them, because that will check for damage etc. If they CAN open it, they have some special tools or procedures and need to share them with you.

  • Cahnge the date  dynamically in Maxl script

    Hi All,
    I am excuting one max for clearing the data for particuler cells it s ok
    It will work for 9th month but next month it will not work until i dont change the value manually
    Dynamically i need to change
    alter database 'ACCOUNT'.'account' clear data in region '{([2010.09],[Actual])}' physical;
    how can i do this , any help would be appriciated..

    I think he wants to avoid updating anything manually though?
    you should be able to:
    a. Build the date/string in a batch file.
    b. pass that date/string to the maxl script as a paramter
    c. use the parameter in your alter database script
    I have also seen people rebuild the entire maxl script each month from a skeleton in another text file or a database but thats probably over complicating.
    You could also use that variable to update a substitution variable

  • NT 4.0, LabVIEW 6, Error 4 (END OF FILE) when trying to seek to byte offset 4096 (from start of file) when the file is larger than 2 Gig

    If I try to seek (or read) with the position mode wired and set for START, I get error 4 (END OF FILE) if the file is larger than 2 GB. I'm only trying to move the file pointer 4096 bytes, not trying to seek or read more than 2GB, but I get the error if the file is over 2Gig.
    Instead, I have to do reads, with the position mode unwired, until I get to the place in the file that I want to be.
    Is this expected behavior?

    Hello,
    LabVIEW File I/O functions use an I32 value to store the size of a file. This means that we are limited to ~2GB file sizes when using the File I/O functions in LabVIEW. This explains why you are seeing odd behavior when trying to read to the end of the file, since this is causing the byte count to exceed ~2GB.
    I hope this explanation sheds some light on the situation for you. Hopefully the workaround (repeated reads) is not too much of an inconvenience.
    Good luck with your application, and have a pleasant day.

  • May I run "shrink DB/truncate free space from the end of file" at PROD?

    We have a SAP/MSS production system.
    The disk is full.
    We want to truncate the log file by:
    "shrink DB/truncate free space from the end of file"
    on the log file.
    How risk is it? Can we do it during production is running?
    Thanks! Points!

    Backup the log file (to save the data and keep a consistent backup) Then shrink the file. Its normal for the log not to shrink down to the size you want. Do not shrink past 1GB.
    DO NOT TRUNCATE - you are losing/dropping data and recovery will only be possible to the last on-line, or on-line plus last log/s.
    You can avoid a full log file by setting a 9002 trap - this will trigger a backup (like oraarch when you back up based on % full). Else you need to change the frequency of the backups for the logs to ensure the system never fills ups.
    You can Also add a second log file on a separate F/S if this occurs regular - which it shouldn't if you have a correct backup strategy.

  • "end of file" error message

    I keep trying to open an adobe encore project. However when I try to open it, I keep getting the error message "end of file".  I then press "OK" and it just closes encore and gives me no other options to open the project.  Can anyone tell me what is wrong?  I have read some information concerning "end of file" in the forum; however, the posted remarks seem to give directions assuming that you are in the project and able to open the preferences and make changes.  What should I do when I can't even open the project? And, why is this happening?

    Awaiting a reply on this thank you.
    I have done some research online and can see this as a reply.
    Outlook stores all the messages you've received in a single file. You'll see
    the "end of file" message if this file becomes corrupt or reaches a size of 2
    gigabytes, which is the largest a mail file can reach.
    Try holding down the Option key when you launch Outlook; this forces it to
    rebuild the mail file. If that doesn't work, you'll have to delete the file and
    start over; you will (of course) lose any saved mail messages.
    I can also see this as well.
    1. Exit all applications.
    2. Hold down the Option key on the keyboard, and then click the Outlook icon in the dock. The Microsoft Database Utility will open.
    Note: You can also access the Microsoft Database Utility by opening the Application folder and then the Microsoft Office 2011 folder. Open the Office folder, and then double-click Microsoft Database Utility.app.
    3. Click the plus [+] sign to add a new identity, and then type a name for the new identity. For example, type, “New Identity”.
    4. Set the newly create identity as the default. To do this, select the newly created identity, click the Action button, and then select Set as Default.
    5. Exit the Microsoft Database Utility, and then restart Outlook, create the rule and see whether the problem is resolved. If this works with the new identity, export the old data as .OLM file and import it into the new Identity.

  • Determining end of file when file consists of objects

    Hi
    I'm having trouble working out how to determine end of file when the file consists of multiple objects
    I've written multiple Person objects to an XML file and I can read the first back
    public Vector<Person> readVectorFromFile() throws CJException {
             Vector<Person> v = new Vector<Person>();
             try {
             XMLDecoder d = new XMLDecoder(new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream("VectorStore.xml")));
             // while there are Persons remaining in the file
             Person p;
             //for each p in the file
             do {
                 p = (Person) d.readObject();
                 v.add(p);
             } while(// can't work out how to test this);
             d.close();
             catch(IOException ioe) {
                 throw new CJException("Error reading file: " + ioe.getCause());
             }al the books either give examples with the reading of a single object or reading multiple charaters...i've tried testing when p is null and using int c but these give ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsExceptions at runtime.
    Please could someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

    Similarly, this sucks:
    try {
    int i = 0;
    while(true)
    System.out.println(someArray[i++]);
    } catch (ArrayIndexOutOfBounds e) {
    // ignore
    True, but that is not the case in this instance, if that is what you're getting at. The problem is that the "read" method of this "Reader" throws an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds exception, without providing any way of figuring out if there is even anything to read. And that, in and of itself, is a remarkable event.
    The only other ways I see to avoid are all cludge work-arounds or innefficient. You could have the first object in the file be an Integer to indicate the number of objects (but what if, then, for whatever reason, the Stream is "emtpy"). You could parse the XML stream counting the number of "object" elements then push it all back, or reset if the underlying stream supports one of those, or reopen the stream and parse it again (this time with the readObject method), all of which are highly ineffecient. You could transmit, beforehand, how many elements there are, or "define" that there will "always" be only so many elements, etc.
    Everyone of those possible solutions (with the exception of the second, which is simply inneffecient) makes the entire thing rigid and inflexible, and, essentially, non-reusable.
    The while (or whatever) loop and catch at least make it generally usuable in all situations. It is, I agree, less than optimal, but still the "best" option, in this particular instance.

  • Unexpected end of file on DNG using LR5

    I was editing images in Lightroom 5, just applying "blue" labels to images I wanted to look at again.  Then on one image I did some color and tone corrections.  Then when I went to open that image in PS I got an error message saying Unexpected end-of-file.  The other images which had no color or tone corrections do not have this problem and open fine.
    I downloaded a trial of capture one, and it is not able to open or convert it either.
    I know this pops up from time to time but not much with DNG, as I saw it listed in a few forums, but none really seem to answer if it is fixable.  I looked at the files in iHex-hex editor as one forum briefly mentioned that, but even comparing it to other files that are working fine I don't know what I am looking at with that.
    I don't have a backup of this image, so recovery is my only option...that is if it is an option.
    The images are stored on a Drobo.  I had LR set to save metadata changes to the files automatically.  Camera was Leica M240, but I think this error happened while editing in LR, as I was able to generate a 1:1 preview before I started editing.
    Do you know if it is fixable? And if so how?
    Thanks in advance

    I believe the only reason it is displaying in LR is because I had already generated a 1:1 preview of it before I did the editing that I think created the issue.  I have tried every export option I know in LR, and all produce the same error
    Thanks though.

  • Inconsistent "End of file error" on "open for access "myFile.txt"

    I have a script that accesses a txt file containing info needed for values in the script. Sometimes the script works flawless, but once I get the "End of file error," it won't work right anymore unless I log out and log back in or if I dump the file and rewrite it. Below is a copy of the portion of script having the problem:
    +set _fileRef to open for access "Library:Preferences:MyTextFile.txt" with permission+
    + set ReadMyTextFile to read _fileRef as string+
    + close access _fileRef+
    Is there a way to reset the "End of file" status so that I can access it later with the same script in one login session? I have a feeling that the first time it opens, that it reads to the end of the file and then closes the file. When it opens again the script starts to read where it left off at the end of the file. Does that sound right?
    Any help would be great.

    OK, it looks like if you are going to use the open for access..close access, you need to keep tack of the EOF yourself, so you can just read to the EOF - for example:
    <pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto"> set TheOpenFile to open for access (choose file)
    try
    set SomeText to paragraphs of (read TheOpenFile to eof as text)
    close access TheOpenFile
    on error
    close access TheOpenFile
    end try
    choose from list SomeText with prompt "File text:" with empty selection allowed
    </pre>
    If there isn't any particular reason to explicitly open and close the file, you can use something like:
    <pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto"> set SomeText to paragraphs of (read (choose file) as text)
    choose from list SomeText with prompt "File text:" with empty selection allowed
    </pre>
    In the above examples I used paragraphs of in order to use the choose from list, since it displays stuff like this a little bit better - see this article for a tutorial on file read/write in AppleScript.

    Modern file systems track the actual length of a file as part of the descriptor for the file. It is not embedded in the file.

  • Outlook Express 4.5 "End of file reached." "Compress Mailbox" is greyed.

    I am trying to get my friend's stuff off his Blueberry iMac, which was using OS 8.6, and onto his new Intel iMac. He's got OE 4.5 on the Blueberry. I don't know what he did to it (he told me weeks ago, but I've forgotten), but suddenly, all messages prior to a certain date give him the message that "The end of file was reached." I wondered if upgrading to OE5 would make a difference, but it refused to import any of the old mail. The Contacts came through ok.
    I tried OE Help's suggestion of dragging all of 4.5's messages into a folder, then drag/dropping them into OE5's Inbox. Only the messages after that certain date would go from the folder into the Inbox, and as there are over 1800 of them and they're listed alphabetically in the folder, I wasn't about to sit there and try to drag each one individually.
    So I tried networking with the Intel, but they wouldn't even communicate. (Blueberry was running OS 8.6.) I upgraded the Blueberry to OS 9, and they still wouldn't communicate. So I networked the Blueberry with an iBook, and they joined up like old friends. But Mail (and Eudora and Thunderbird) all refused to import the old mail.
    One of the reasons I tried to upgrade to v5 was because I thought maybe it would export the mailboxes as .mbox files. 4.5 wouldn't; exporting mailboxes wasn't even mentioned in the "Help."
    There are a number of very useful suggestions already posted to this list, and to my great surprise, not one of them helped.
    I went to compress the mailboxes, but the option was greyed out. Now what?
    Thanks very much in advance!

    "End of file" means the mail database is corrupt. That being said, EntourAid might help. As per the developer, "EntourAid attempts to recover emails in any corrupted Microsoft Outlook Express/Entourage email database that is reported to be corrupted and irrecoverable. This has been tested on both 'normal' corruption situations as well as on databases corrupted by the '2 gigabyte limit' in Entourage Office v.X, with up to 90% recovery rate (including attachments)."
