My itunes account is not recognising my ipad when I connect it to my computer. I have followed the Apple troubleshooter for this but with no success.

My iTunes account is not recognising that I have plugged in my iPad to the computer. Other devices, such as my iPhone, are being recognised, but not the iPad. I have tried the Apple troubleshooter for this problem but it didn't help. ie I've restarted itunes, restarted iPad, reinstalled iTunes, etc. Any ideas?
