Enhance browsing speed - firefox & mozilla

these guidelines are based on mozilla 1.7 and firefox 0.9, but reportedly they also work in earlier versions of each browser. the options differ slightly between firefox and mozilla, so adjust accordingly. i've shown in parantheses which browsers have which options.
to get started, type about:config in the address bar, and press <enter>. then change the following keys as indicated:
1. browser.turbo.enabled - true (FF MOZ)
2. network.http.pipelining - true (FF MOZ)
3. network.http.pipelining.firstrequest - true (FF)
4. network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - 32 (FF MOZ)
5. network.http.proxy.pipelining - true (FF MOZ)
6. nglayout.initialpaint.delay - 0 (FF)
Enabling the pipelining features allows the browser to make multiple requests to the server at the same time. The "maxrequests" is the maximum number of requests it will send at once. I've heard that 8 is the most it will send at once, but setting it higher won't hurt, just in case. The initialpaint.delay is the length of time (in milliseconds) after the server response before the browser begins to paint the page.
with those settings, most people report a noticeable speed boost in rendering pages. YMMV.
have fun!

the  "browser.turbo.enabled" i didnt know, but pipelining is also in the Preferences of Moz:
Preferences -> Advanced -> HTTP-Networking
i did search about this for short:

Has to do with what is now called "quicklaunch" (and which doesn't work on
Linux; this pref isn't used anymore.) I learned this from THE FIRST Google
hit, BTW.
and about pipelining for surfing the web read this:

    Hi everyone
    Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, however any redirect is appreciated. Where can I get the download for the latest old mozilla browser. The one with the dinosaur icon before the browser turned firefox. Thanks, Jen

    Phoenix and Firebird were what Firefox was called before Firefox was settled on in 2004, and both used "birds" as the logo. IIRC, the dinosaur was used in the Mozilla Suite.
    Here are the earliest versions of the Mozilla Suite. <br />

    I hope this request for a historical purposes of where Mozilla came from, because those old versions aren't safe to use on the internet any longer.

  • Very slow browsing speeds after 10.4.6 update

    after updating to 10.4.6 Firefox, Safari are so slow compared to previous browsing speeds on a cable modem.
    Speed has slowed from better than T1 to low DSL.
    have run Cocktail, cron scripts, light cache cleaning etc,
    DiskWarrior says all is good...
    Disk Utility says all is good...
    permissions are good....
    TechTool reports, "A Fragment Length is Invalid" - MainAutomation_carbon.8li
    this is the only problem found.
    Would this be the cause of the slow down?
    If so, can I delete this file,, would a new one be created?
    or what can repair this file?
    If the above is not the cause of the slow down, any
    suggestions on solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Have you created a new account and named it "test" to see how your browsers work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
    Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
    Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.

  • Web page browsing speed drastically slowing down

    I purchased a 13 inch mac book pro in December. Since day one, I have had a problem with my web page browsing speed drastically slowing down. These crippling slow down periods are completely random. They can start any time, and last from any amount of time. from minutes to hours.
    95% of the time any attempt to load a page end in a time out. The other 5% takes no less then 90 seconds to load the simplest of pages. I have this problem no matter what browser I use (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera). What is driving me nuts is other applications work fine when browsing slows down. Skype, IM clients, multi-player games all work great, but web pages will not load. When I ping a website, my latency returns are perfectly normal. I can use Telnet and SSH with no problem.
    This has become such a problem that I can not depend on using OS X day to day. I used boot camp to setup a windows partition and installed win 7. Using my win 7 install everything runs perfectly, I have had zero slow down!
    I've done some searching and found numerous posts with similar problems. Ive read and followed the advice that I found, but I've had no success is fixing this.
    I have had this problem on 6 different wireless networks. Each time this problem has come into play, my windows install performs flawlessly. This really makes me belive this is a software problem. Not hardware / ISP.
    I see alot of post blaming default ISP DNS servers, just to let everyone know I use google's open DNS on my home network.
    I also have changed the DNS settings in OS X
    All other machines on my home network have zero problems!
    Sending files between my laptop and other machines on my network works perfectly.
    I have found a few posts / guides for using OnyX, none of them have worked for me
    I have to be missing some simple thing here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for the welcome and the quick response Glynn
    I rebooted into OS X as soon as I read your response. Web pages would not load.
    I followed your instructions.
    The Airport Light was green.
    I went ahead and hit assist me and ran the diag tool. According to the tool my internet connection is working correctly.
    Sadly the problem persists and web pages still will not load in all four browsers.
    I ran a ping to google.com and responses were well under 45 ms.

  • My Safari browser is gone. How do I find it? I have a browser in Firefox, but I prefer to use google.

    My Safari rowser is gone. How do I find it? I have a browser in Firefox, but I prefer to use Safari.

    Tools > Options >> '''Advanced''' -> General = at the bottom under System Defaults
    BTW, the Firefox 3.5.x versions are supported any longer, you should upgrade to at least 3.6.20 or 6.0. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • How do I remove enformation 1.1 0.95.19 by marketing Enterprise 1.1 Enhance browsing Version 27 from extensions

    I have been using Firefox 31 browser and now have a problem with the Extensions I can not remove enformation 1.1 0.95.19 by marketing Enterprise 1.1 Enhance browsing Version 27 which puts an advertisement on all web pages. I have used Firefox suggestion it goes then reappears

    Extensions often are pushed into Firefox by other programs. Therefore, I suggest starting here:
    Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    You might still need to clean out the extensions section of your Add-ons page another time, but hopefully you will root out whatever keeps pushing the extensions back into Firefox.
    You also can "mop up" remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools suggested in this support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].

  • I get hieroglyphics in the top bar of he screen rather than "Firefox - Mozilla Firefox". Anything to worry about?

    On some occasions, I get a series of hieroglyphics in the top bar on my web browser, rather than "Firefox - Mozilla Firefox". I'm concerned this may be linked to a virus. Should I be concerned?
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week
    == I launched Firefox

    If you see CJK (Chinese/Japanese) characters on the Firefox title bar or the Windows Taskbar then that can happen if Firefox switches to UTF-16 encoding for some reason.
    The ''RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin'' extension (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) has been reported to cause that issue.
    Be sure not to get confused with the RealPlayer plugin (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) that plays media files.
    The extension adds some extra features like saving media files.
    You can disable/remove the ''RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin'' extension in the RealPlayer Preferences (RealPlayer: Tools > Preferences > Download & Recording)

  • I have Firefox-Mozilla Firefox. Also Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and cc cleaner. I keep getting automatic renewals from Webroot. Do I need Webroot in addition to these programs?

    I have Firefox-Mozilla Firefox. Also Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and a cc cleaner. I recently go a notice of automatic renewal from Webroot. Do I need Webroot in addition to the above? Doesn't one contradict or duplicate the other?

    is malwarebytes on demand scanner?
    is webroot a internet security suite?
    anyways if malwarebytes is running real time it is not good enough on its own to prevent infection, but you do not need to waste money on protection,something like pctools firewall plus and avast free antivirus will be more than good enough.you could also sandbox your browser with sandboxie which is also free..

  • Would like to replace IE with Firefox Mozilla

    We are running version 10.1.3.4.1 with IE as the browser in our development and Firefox Mozilla in production. I would like to use the same browser in both the environments. Consequently I want to replace IE in development with Mozilla. How di I need to do to achieve this?

    I appreciate your help.As above, the browser will just work. I would suggest you let your users have a UAT on the new browser as they are ever so slightly different look and feel , as in the OBIEE objects (prompts etc.).

  • After re-installing my MacBook Pro hard drive, I lost my Firefox/Mozilla 'top banner' (red ,yellow and orange in color) and with it my ability to down load via a small tab located top right on it's bar. How do I get this function back??

    Recently I found it necessary to re-install my entire operating system, and I lost my ability to down load streaming videos. I am an artist almost 70 yrs. old, and am not very computer proficient which is why I purchased a MacBook Pro. I used Firefox/Mozilla to do downloading because it was easy. When I brought my system back up I found that the top 'Firefox banner' had changed from red, orange and yellow in color to shades of gray. With this change found that I no longer had the download 'tab' to click on to initiate downloads (located top right on the Firefox top section).
    I've tried re-installing Firefox and Antbar download helper but am still not able to download. How do I get the download capability back again???? ......roxor999

    Your storage device is probably faulty.  It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have.
    Ciao.

  • I updated to Firefox/Mozilla 5 and can't open it - deleted download and reloaded but still nothing

    I was running the former version of Firefox/Mozilla and was notified to update to the newer version of 5 which I did and have not been able to open it at all. I have enough hard drive and memory to run it on Windows XP operating system. Tried to go back to the older version but can't do that either. Right now I am using Opera but would much rather use Firefox as I liked it a lot. I am upgrading to another computer soon running the Windows 7 Professional - do you have any reports of Firefox 5 being unable to run on Windows operating systems?

    There are a lot of Firefox 5 users still running Windows XP, but everyone's memory and drive space and graphics are a little different, so it's hard to make a blanket statement.
    I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, download and re-run the Firefox 5 installer to see whether that corrects the problem.
    http://www.mozilla.com/firefox
    If the installer won't run until you exit Firefox, the program may be hung in memory. You can use the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to shut it down. Check both the Applications tab and the Processes tab.
    Does that help?

  • I'm creating a public website and i have a javascript code that works on all browser except firefox. What should i do?

    Hi,
    I'm creating a public website that has a simple javascript button that will just set an asp.net dropdown value. It works on all browser except firefox...
    website: http://healthcareaustralia-web.sharepoint.com/Doctors/DailyShifts1.aspx
    So when you click on reset button it doesn't set the dropdowns to ALL
    this is the code:
    function resetFilters()
    var dropdown = document.getElementById('ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_DropDownList1');
    var ans = "All";
    dropdown.value = ans.value;
    document.location.href = "/Doctors/DailyShifts1.aspx";
    }

    hello, when i test it with current firefox versions, all works as expected: i choose custom dropdown values & select "filter", when i click "reset" next all dropdowns default back to "all" and the list gets refreshed.
    maybe try to [[Clear the cache - Delete temporary Internet files to fix common website issues|clear the cache]] & and reload the page or for other common troubleshooting steps refer to [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]].

  • I just downloaded Firefox 5 and it said that my Yahoo toolbar will not work with it. Is this true? If so I will not use this new version and will switch to another browser if Firefox stops supporting the Yahoo toolbar. Thank you.

    I just downloaded Firefox 5 and it said that my Yahoo toolbar will not work with it. Is this true? If so I will not use this new version and will switch to another browser if Firefox stops supporting the Yahoo toolbar. Thank you.

    Add-ons contain a range of compatible Firefox versions, and Firefox honors the listed range by disabling the add-on if you are trying to run it on an unlisted version.
    I'm sure Yahoo! will update its toolbar eventually, but not every add-on maker supports beta versions of software.
