Enlarging book pages to make proofreading captions easier

Is there a way to zoom pages of a book to a larger size when proofing so that small font sizes can be more easily read? I find that font size below 12 is difficult when checking for spelling, etc., and I was wondering if there is a way i haven't discovered to temporarily increase the size of book pages for proofreading. Thanks.

Before you order it is recommended that you preview your order - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the PDF in case of issues - and the PDF can be viewed in zoomed mode with preview or Adobe reader

Control (right) - click on the photo in the frame and select Fit to Frame Size in the contextual menu.

  • Adobe products recommend to make comic book pages?

I am a graphic novel writer & comic designer.
I have been told that many of Adobe's products can be used
to create drafts for comic book pages. But some people tell me
Illustrator is the best, others say In Design is the way to go and
I have even heard Photoshop works as well. I guess I am just
look for some advice from a Adobe expert. What Adobe product would you recommend to use for making comic book pages?

Photoshop for line cleanup, inking, flats and coloring, and a few people use it for text.
Illustrator for creating text boxes and lettering, and some people use it for layout.
InDesign for layout and publishing, and some people use it for text effects as well.

  • IPhoto book page layout

I used a 3 photo page layout with a caption but only want one photo to print. I placed the photo and left the other spaces blank. Will the page print white where I didn't place the photos, or with gray boxes as shown on the layout? I don't a full page photo as shown with the 1 photo layout, so I'm using this as a workaround.

You must have photos placed in all positions to order a book - you can to a page in other software (pages, MS word, Pagemaker, etc) and do a print to PDF using the send PDF to iPhoto option to make a full page image exactly like you want for your book - see Old Toad's tutorial #19 for details - http://web.me.com/toad.hall/NewTutorials/main19.html
And always preview your book - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - before ordering and save the resulting PDF.
For examples of all of the pay layouts for each theme see Liz Castro's site - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/pmwiki.php?n=Main.HomePage

  • How to delivering book pages to the screen one by one??

    Hello.
I have written a lot on www, see http://www.europas-historie.net/ and there have been more than a million visitor, and there was very much work and no money to earn. Now I will try something new. I will translate texts which are in the public domain into Norwegian, Kafka, Mark Twain, Tolstoy, Maupassant etc. og publish some of them as ordinary books, and will make them available for download as pdf-files, for a fee.
I will give free access to a large part of these texts and books, but not let readers download all the texts. I will like to show them the way books.google.com gives readers access to books on the screen, or the way Amazon lets readers look inside books, or the way safaribooksonline.com do it. Which software do these sites use? It looks to me like there is a pdf file and a program which delivers pages from this file to the screen? Which programs/software is necessary to do this? Is it possible in Dreamweaver? How? Which software will let me do it most easely?

You are asking the wrong question(s). This has little or nothing to do with the frontend programming. Much more important is the backend and, since you obviously are not terribly rich, I'd say forget it. What you would need is the following:
    - multiple databases managing the indices for authors, titles etc.
    - databases for holding text and images for the books
    - a dynamic PDF generating software or alternatively a huge storage holding all the PDFs ready to use
    - databases holding the preview pages as HTML and images or alternatively a processing software that can extract and convert that data from the data to be used in the books
Only after that can you worry about the frontend, but it still means implementing a search engine and a way to navigate. Obviously there is some overlap and bits and pieces can be left out, but if you realyl want it the fancy way, you need a lot more than Dreamweaver. Even if mySQL, Ghostscript, Tex2PDF and other stuff are free, you need considerable juice on the server end and wil lspend a lot of time getting it to run/ keep it running. Therefore I do not see it ever coming into the daylight.
Instead consider a much, much simpler solution. Install a pre-configured content management system like Joomla, Typo3 or a blog software like WordPress. They all offer easy database management and allow managed uploads/ downloads as well as user management. You would hack the excerpts from the books in the database and the users can view them as normal HTML/PHP pages. If they decide to buy, they'd send you an automated message via a contact form and then you grant them access to the files on the server by setting up a user account and directory that gives them access to their book. Of course it's still quite a bit of manual intervention, but that's the only way I can see it working without financially ruining yourself.

  • Can't add text to book pages

I just installed Aperture 2.1.2 and am trying to add a text box over an image on a book page. On the actions bar the only buttons that work after selecting the image are the Set Photo Filter and Set Background. The buttons for Text Style, Metadata Format, Add Text box, Add Metadata, Add Photo, Send Backwards and Send Forward are "grayed out" Also, if I try to select Add Text from the Book Actions button at the bottom of the Book pane, all of the options from the Add selection are grayed out. I am able to select and resize an image (I get yellow box around it). What do I need to do to enable these actions? The Aperture Manual just say's to use the Add Text tool, but it's not active on my system.
I am able to edit text on pages thet have pre-formatted text items.

Have the same problem and wondering if you ever found out how to make the Content and Layout buttons visible. Strangely these buttons are there if I use Aperture on my PowerBook, but not and my desktop Mac. Drives me crazy because I need to add more text and captions to some book pages.

  • Splitting dual book pages into separate pdf pages

I have a book scanned into pdf with two book pages per adobe page (side by side). How can I split the pdf page in way that each book page becomes its own pdf page? My chief concern is that one side is always tilted which makes reading and highlighting difficult. Any help would be great. I have Acrobat 9 pro on vista. thanks.

I have had to do this in the past, but the problem is the file size then
doubles. I haven't figured out an easy to way to remove the data from the
    cropped areas.

So I decided to only have the index.html in the root and created folders for the other pages to clean it up, and just dropped the pages in the folders.
    How did you move pages?
Each page is linked to the other pages and when you move pages up and down the folder hierarchy (from folder to folder) all the link references in the page code changes.
If you always move files using the Files panel in Dreamweaver then Dreamweaver will handle the link updating in all pages automatically and your pages will work OK.

Way better to arrange your files and folders logically so they're organized. Makes maintenance much easier.
Just ensure that you use the DW Files panel to move files and folders around at all times so the links are updated.

  • Photos don't display on book pages after upgrading to 9.4.2

I have several books I created in version 9.4.1. After upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, most of the pictures will not display on the book pages. Only 1 photo displays out of 3 or 4 photos on the page. Is there a setting that has changed? Using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on MacBookPro10,1

Did you duplicate the existing book or create a new empty book and add the same photos?
Have you tried rebuilding your library as follows: make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • HELP! CS2 hyperlink index to book pages for PDF

Hi there, would really appreciate any help with this.
We need to make an interactive PDF with a fully searchable index using InDesign CS2 (windows platform on PC).
Currently we place text into CS2 InD doc templates, format it, then add all docs into InD Book. A PDF is made from the book and the author indexes from this PDF. He supplies a Word document with Index topics etc and page numbers. This is placed into InDesign, formatted, then loaded into the Book.
To make the text as interactive as we require in the final PDF, we use InD TOC to adds bookmarks as we need, we also manually add hyperlinks in InD to jump back to the contents page from any given page.
However we need the Index in the PDF to be fully interactive - ie when you click on a page number in the Index, it will take you to that page. For various reasons we do not want to use InD indexing (which would i gather add hyperlinks) or Indexing facility in Word which also adds hyperlinks by carrying fields over from Word.
Is there a InD script that could just pick up all page numbers in the Index and connect them to the actual page where the word appears? Without any need for text tagging, or marking or using Index palette?
I'm sorry but we have no experience of writing scripts (though have used the Endnote script to enable Endnotes to be used in InDesign).
Any ideas would be very very welcome.
    Thanks for your time!
    Emma

I think the export feature in InDesign is a feature of that product and not Acrobat. Thus you will need to ask in that forum. There are folks here that may know because they also have InDesign. The long link names and potential problems suggests that you have an option in the export incorrectly selected and you are actually not using links. Acrobat will try to interpret things it sees as links as such (like WORD and other products) but may not get them right if they are strange links. In such a case you have 2 options: 1. Be sure you have the proper feature selected for exporting the links (so they are included) or 2. Fix the links so they satisfy proper URL formatting. For instance, spaces are not standard in links, even if MS products like to use them.

  • Safari not enlarging web page

Safari has stoped enlarging the page in the sense of the width. I have a page exactly the width of a iFad and no larger. Sites concerned are newspapers.

Using Command Zoom does widen the the page. I usually don't use that however because it also makes things blurry as if out of focus, especially the photos. And the menu bar is also harder to manage.
I will try to upload screen shots. The fact that there are words that are "cropped" is exactly the problem I am talking about. In addition, this is NEW, that is before this version of Safari the whole web page was widened as well as the type becoming larger. I really liked the proportional management (much better than on Firefox) because it exactly filled my screen.
Here are some screen shots. Whoops. Can't figure out how to post screen shots here. The washington Post is the worst. After a few click (two or three) the entire lead headline becomes distorted and blocks part of the page.

  • How to view iPhoto book pages full screen

I have made a book in the latest version of Aperture. Now I want to view the pages of my book in full screen view - the book, not the individual pics. It would be great if I could make the book pages into a slideshow too. I can't work it out - HELP!!!

    Welcome to the forum.
It's a bit of round robin, but you can make it a slide show. Go to File >> Print Book. In the print dialog click the PDF button in the lower left corner and choose "Save PDF to Aperture". This will bring up the import PDF Import dialog. Choose either Tiff or JPEG, and either chose a project or create a new one to save it in. Voila! You now have images of the pages to make a slideshow with. You still may want to crop the borders off the pages.

  • Book pages view and interface customization.

    Hi, everyone.
Adobe's Lightroom 4 has a nice and useful feature in its book module that allows all book pages to be displayed in one large and central pane.
In Aperture while creating a book I have a 'Pages' panel on the left side of the screen and a large panel where individual (or paired) book pages are displayed, I can't seem to find a way to view all book pages in a large browser-style panel as is possible with Lightroom.
Is there a way to do this in Aperture ? Can I have a large browser panel opened and view all page books together ?
    Thank you in advance.

    No, afaik, sorry.
You can try to make more space fore the "Pages" pane by hiding the Inspector pane, and by rotating the browser and create a layout like this:

  • Books photo WYSIWYG in Book Preview vs. Book pages

my phtos appear differently in the book preview under the “order book” section vs how they appear on the book pages in the program..
the differences are subtle..but very important..colors brightness, clarity etc...
my basic question is...which is more accurate...more WYSIWG....the appearance on the book preview pages...or the appearance on the Aperture
book pages in the “create a book’ section..
    Thank you very much,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That feature only works in a one of the themes, Folio. There were others in iPhoto 6 like Yearbook that had that feature but those are no longer available.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can't find catagory choices on the right side of Audio books page.

I haven't been to the iTunes store for about 5 days, but the last time there I was able to pull a list of top seller audio books in any of a large number of catagories on the right side of the home audio book page. Today (July 1) all that is available is the "Today's top sellers," not with catagory choices. Has something changed? That was an easy way to find books in the areas of my interest.
    trp1

The categories are at the left side now. Clicking on one will activate the browser.
If not, use the Command-B keyboard shortcut to activate the browser.
    Hope this helps.
