Entering data in an HTML with an Applet?

I have a small application I made with Swing. now, I want to make it html for use with Explorer. and I have 2 challanges:
1. How do I get use input in an Applet? (the example in the tutial only applies to showing text.
2. How do I access the database with JDBC?
Thanks, Benny.

question 1 is:
Can I use TextField or JTextField in an Applet to
receive input from the user.Since an Applet is a Container... what do you think? And why didn'T you simply try or read the API? Or the Swing tutorial?
Question 2:
I only know about Applets. What I need to do is
receive input from the user (e.g. first & last name,
e-mail and phone number) and update the data into the
database (currently MDB and MySQL in the near
future).
I know how to do this with swing and
JDBC localy. but, how do I do it when my GUI
is HTML / webpage?Signed applet and high hopes that nobody's using the packets sent by your applet to hack and wreck your DB.

  • How  to transmit data from textarea-HTML to an Applet on MAC OS

    Hi, i'm writing an applet and I would like to use in my applet the data coming from a textarea of the same html page and at the end of my applet, i want to update this textarea.
    I'm working on MAC OS (LiveConnect doesn't work).
    Java-Javascript :
    I've tried the system of invisible frame with javascript that i've found at this address: http://www.rgagnon.com/ce/java-js.html, but the data are transmitted via the url (by means of the get method) and i've too much data to move. I've tried to post the data to a cgi script and i've used the showDocument method but i can't get the data that i've posted.
    Javascript-Java :
    I've tried the solution given at the same address but it doesn't work at all because : 1) the method getDocumentBase() doesn't gives the parameters 2) it still uses the get method.
    I would appreciate any help.

    If i include the textarea in my applet, I'll have many web sites (which are already working with an embedded texarea) to update.
    and to be very accurate, the textarea is in another page and my applet is "alone" in a pop-up window.

  • Problem to read and write files on hdd out of html with an Applet ????

    hi there,
    i wrote an applet for loading a file from HDD or saving data out of a cookie in a file on a hdd.
    when i compile the class there are warnings about "unchecked method invocation" and "unchecked conversion".
    what did i do wrong?
    i think it's about this function:
    AccessController.doPrivileged(new PrivilegedAction()
    public Object run()
    if(saveCartAtOnce.toLowerCase().compareTo("true")== 0)
    SaveShoppingCart();
    }//if
    return null;
    }// public Object run
    });//AccessController
    could anyone help me?
    i could also send the whole class then....
    thanks a lot.

  • Numbers entering data

    I am using numbers on my ipad. I have a data field suppoted by a form. In the form mode if I add multiple forms it allows me to enter data into those forms with a full keyboard. In another data field in the form mode with multiple forms it only allows the use of a numerical keyboard. Any suggestions to help me?

    gottscheer wrote:
    Thanks, Yvan.
    But it's still the same problem, whether I have to reformat a column or the whole table, just because new data is entered in a cell.
    There has to be a way around that, but maybe not??? Is this a problem with Numbers?
    Entering data in a cell use the format already defined for this cell.
    What you describe is what we get when we create a new row which is a completely different task.
    So, re-read my original message it gave the useful infos.
    (1) Define once the format which you want to apply to cells of a table.
    It may be the same for the entire table or it may be different for this or that column.
    Every value entered in a cell of this table will get the defined format if you type it.
    If you paste it, as Barry wrote, apply "Paste and Match Style"
    (2) If you must insert a new row, it will receive the default format defined by the application.
    You may be annoyed by this behavior but here you are speaking to end users like you.
    We may describe the way to achieve this or that task, we can't change the application design.
    If you want a new behavior,
    _Go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu_, describe precisely what you wish.
    Then, cross your fingers, and wait _at least_ for iWork'11

  • Trying to Imitate the html POST  method with an applet

    I am trying to imitate the POST method with an applet, so that I can eventually send sound from a microphone to a PHP script which will store it in a file on a server. I am starting out by trying to post a simple line of text by making the PHP script think that it is receiving the text within a POST-ed file. The reason I am doing things this way is in part because I am, for the time being, limited to a shared server without any support for servlets or any other server side java.
    The code I am trying is based in part on an old thread found elsewhere in this forum, concerning sending data to a PHP file by imitating the POST method:
    link:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=530399&messageID=2603608
    someone named "harmmeijer" provided most of the answers on that thread. If that person is still around hope they take a look at this,also I have some questions to clarify what they said on the other thread..
    My first attempt at code is below. The applet is in a signed jar file and is trying to pass a text line to the PHP script in the same directory and on the same server that the applet came from. It is doing this by sending header information that is supposed to be identical to what an html form would send if it was uploading a .txt file with the line of text within it. The applet displays one button. When you press it, it sucessfully starts up the postsim method (defined at the end), which is supposed to send the info to the PHP script at the server.
    I have two questions:
    1) I know that the PHP script is starting up, because it prints out a few messages depending on what happens. However, the script does not recognize any file coming down the line, so it does not save anyting on the server, and prints out a message saying the no file was uploaded.
    Any idea what might be going wrong? I'm not getting any error messages from the applet. I've tried a few different variations of the 'header' information contained in the line:
    osToServer.writeBytes("--****4353\r\nContent-Disposition: form-data; name=\"testfile\"; filename=\"C:testfile.txt\"\r\nContent-Type: text/plain\r\n");
    The commented out line below it shows one variation (which was given in the thread mentioned above).
    2) You'll notice that I've commented out the two lines having to do with the input line:
    //InputStream isFromServer;
    and
    //isFromServer = uc.getInputStream();
    The reason is that the program crahes whenever I put the latter line in - to the extent that Opera closes down the JVM and then crashes when I tried to exit it.. I must be doing something horribly wrong there! I first tried using isFromServer = new DataInputStream(uc.getInputStream());
    becuase it was consistent with the output stream, but that caused the same problem.
    Here's the code:
    public class AudioUptest1 extends Applet{
    //There are a few spurious things defined in this section, having to do with the fact the microphone data is evenuatly going to be sent. haven't yet insterted code to get input from a microphone.
    AudioFormat audioFormat;
    TargetDataLine targetDataLine;
    SourceDataLine sourceDataLine;
    DataOutputStream osToServer;
    //InputStream isFromServer;
    URLConnection uc;
    final JButton captureBtn = new JButton("Capture");
    final JPanel btnPanel = new JPanel();
    public void init(){
    System.out.println("Started the applet");
    try
    URL url = new URL( "http://www.mywebsite.com/handleapplet.php" );
    uc = url.openConnection();
    //Post multipart data
    uc.setDoOutput(true);
    uc.setDoInput(true);
    uc.setUseCaches(false);
    //set request headers
    uc.setRequestProperty("Connection", "Keep-Alive");
    uc.setRequestProperty("HTTP_REFERER", "http://applet.getcodebase");
    uc.setRequestProperty("Content-Type","multipart/form-data; boundary=****4353");
    osToServer = new DataOutputStream(uc.getOutputStream());
    //isFromServer = uc.getInputStream();
    catch(IOException e)
    System.out.println ("Error etc. etc.");
    return;
    //Start of GUI stuff

    Hi All,
    I was trying to write a signed applet that helps the
    user of the applet to browse the local hard disk and
    select a file from the same. The JFileChooser class
    from Swing is what I used in my applet. The problem
    is with the policy file. I am not able to trace the
    exact way to write a policy file which gives a total
    access to read,write,delete,execute on all the drives
    of the local hard disk.
    I am successful in signing the applets and performing
    operations : read,write,delete & execute on a single
    file but failing to grant permission for the entire
    file.
    Any help would be highly appreciated.Which policy file are you using? there might be more than one policy file.
    also, u have to specify the alias of the signed certificate in the policy file to grant the necessary priviledges to the signed applet.

  • Replace HTML page with an applet

    Hello to everybody!
    I created a servlet who can manage file upload from an HTML page.
    Now I want to replace that HTML page with an applet.
    I know that I need to use multipart/form-data , but I have no experience with applet.
    HTML page code is:
    <html>
    <head><title>Upload</title></head>
    <body>
    <FORM ACTION="http://localhost:8080/examples/servlets/servlet/UploadTest" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" METHOD=POST>
    What is your name? <INPUT TYPE=TEXT NAME=submitter> <BR>
    Which file do you want to upload? <INPUT TYPE=FILE NAME=file> <BR>
    <INPUT TYPE=SUBMIT>
    </FORM>
    </body>
    </html>
    Any help for "translating" this html page into an applet?
    Applet will send, like html page, a string and a file.
    Thanks in advance, Liuk

    If you use something like Apache Http Client you dont have to do any low level implementations.
    Also if you are the one who is writing both servlet and applet you dot have to stick to standerd formats. you can develop your own format and write both servlet and applet to handle it. that kind of thing can be done easily even with URLConnection. But if you plan to send large files then URLConnection may not be the right option becouse I have seen many complaining that URLConnection gives OutOfMemoryErrors when uploading large amounts of data.

  • Cannot enter data into table with column named DATE

    I have a table as follows:
    CREATE TABLE PACKINGLINE (
    SNO VARCHAR2(13),
    "DATE" DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE,
    PRDORDNO VARCHAR2(12),
    NOW DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE,
    CONSTRAINT PACKINGLINE_PK PRIMARY KEY ("SNO", "DATE"));
    Note the "cleaverly" named DATE and NOW columns (yes, that is the name of the column... our company was bessed with a very clear SQL server DBA in the past)
    This SQL statement works:
    INSERT INTO PACKINGLINE (SNO, PRDORDNO) VALUES ('1000808972', '100080897');
    However when I try use SQL Developer as follows I cannot enter data:
    1. Open SQL Developer
    2. Click on "Tables" then on my table named PACKINGLINE
    3. Click the "Data" tab
    4. Click the [+] "Insert Row" Icon
    5. Enter the same data as above
    6. Click Commit
    7. The following error is shown in the log window and I cannot commit the data change.
    Error message
    ==================
    INSERT INTO "DBO"."PACKINGLINE" (SNO, PRDORDNO) VALUES ('1000808971', '100080897')
    One error saving changes to table "DBO"."PACKINGLINE":

    I can copy and paste the above query into a normal SQL statement window and the data commits fine.

    Its so flaky there really must be something wrong Mr Adobe support person....
    If I load a PDF, do nothing, gently save it, reopen and then waiting for my trial dialogue to wake up so that I can click on continue trial... then save as extended reader blah.... then close. I have finally saved one that works!!!! but how difficult is that????
    WHAT IS WRONG ADOBE??

  • Have a problem in Numbers with entering data directly into a cell when a table reaches a certain size and special characters are used?

    I am creating a list of words with special characters in some of them. I get to a point where I cannot enter data directly into the cell. I have to use the data entry bar at the top in the toolbar. Any solutions available?
    This is the table I am creating...
    From row 25 on, I am only able to enter data into the cell through the toolbar at the top and not directly into the cell itself. I believe that this problem originates from the special characters I have inserted in the previous records because if I do not use special characters, then the spreadsheet acts flawlessly. Have there been issues in Numbers with data entry, the size of a table, and using special characters?

    I would try removing the rows with "special" characters one at a time to see which one is causing the problem

    When I send messages off-line, they enter in the addressed mailbox with the date and hour which I've clicked “Send later”. How could I set up to the real time?

    What you say about Send Later timestamp is correct.
    When you click Send or Send Later a time is set regardless of when you actually sent the Send Later email.

  • Entering Data into Excel with Applescript

    I am looking to populate various worksheets in a single Excel file (Workbook?) with data that I enter via a dialog box in an Applescript. I'm a newbie and can't quite figure out the Applescript syntax of how to actually get data to be entered into an Excel cell.
    dan

    I only have 2004 to test on at the moment, and I can't see your whole worksheet, but:
    I made a file Workbook1.xls on my desktop and made the second worksheet name "Room 218".
    Entering "H,218" works OK with this script, so I suspect there's something odd about the two extra "activates" that you have in your code, unless it is to do with 2008.
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;">
    set a to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter the slot (A-H) and the room #, separating them with a comma:" default answer "")
    set astid to AppleScript's text item delimiters
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ","
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to astid
    set {chosenslot, chosenroom} to {(a's text item 1), (a's text item 2)}
    tell application "Microsoft Excel"
    activate
    open workbook workbook file name ((path to desktop as text) & "Workbook1.xls")
    set worksheetname to "Room " & chosenroom
    activate object worksheet worksheetname
    set formula of range "J3" of worksheet worksheetname to chosenslot
    end tell </pre>
    Incidentally, all those commas in the formatted script threw me, and it happened to me as well.
    Insert this line at the top of the forum formatting script to be safe:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;">
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to " "
    </pre>

  • Problems with entering data

    Hi all,
    I have prepared several data forms and grids, but I'm not able to enter data. All cells are red colored with cell status "INVALID".
    Does anybody know why is that?
    Thanks,
    Vlado

    The red color in cells indicate that you have chosen a Point Of View (POV) which is invalid for the accounts viewed on the form.
    Example 1: Suppose you have selected several accounts some of them having intercompany analysis and then select an ICP member, accounts not supporting intercompany analysis will be displayed as red, while accounts supporting ICP analysis, will display as yellow (provided you have selected base members for all other POV dimensions)
    Example 2: Suppose you use Custom 3 to hold both Channel and Grade analysis with different hierarchy subtrees (example drawn from COMMA sample app). Note that the [None] member belongs only in the Grades hierarchy. When you choose to view the OperatingIncome account which uses TotalChannels as Custom3TopMember (the hierarchy which does not contain the [None] member) with Custom 3 = [None], again you will see the invalid cells.

  • I have two separate calendars on iCloud (to share with two different groups), but I click on the second and try to enter data, it defaults to the first one I set up. How do I fix this?

    I have one iCloud account. I set up two separate calendars on iCloud to share with two separate groups.  But when I click on the second calendar and try to enter data, it defaults to the first/other calendar (wrong group to share with).  How do I fix this?

    Was this ever resolved?
    Recently I set up a share for one calendar with another Apple user, through my iCloud.  Now I find that the shared calendar, which has maybe 50 entries a week because it is for keeping track of community center activities and printing out PDFs, appears in my personal Calendar --- unless I turnoff the sharing.
    Is this generally true?  I cannot find any clarity on this on Apple Support.
    If so, I plan to stop the assistance to the other Apple user.  I will stop sharing the community center calendar that I set up on my computer and ask her to set up such a calendar on her own computer anew.   The sharing of Calendars does not work well.  It seems the shared calendar takes over as the only calendar one can see on one's own computer, replacing other calendars set up without sharing.  I can only "see" the other calendars by turning off the sharing on the shared calendar.   This is inconvenient.  Basically shared Calendars take over!

    Keerthi,
    Use the method <b>getDifference()</b> of the DateHelper.java available here.<a href="http://www.koders.com/java/fid14A61FEB1B45A64E42E1DCAD7070B46AE46340BA.aspx">DateHelper</a>
    1. Create a new folder, say Util under your src folder. (com.xyz.util)
    2. Put this DateHelper.java file in that folder,(com.xyz.util) .
    3. Now, write an import statement for this java class in the required view.
    4. Use the getDifference() method of this class to the difference in days between two days.
    Or
    Simply use this code.
    // Get msec from each, and subtract.
    long diff = currDate.getTime() - selectedDate.getTime();
    int noOfDays = diff / (1000 * 60 * 60 * 24);
    where currDate is today's Date and selectedDate is the Date selected by the User.
