Enterprise 220R bootup problem

I've got a Enterprise 220R from a used-servers reserller. I've hooked up the null modem cable to my laptop and also attached the keyboard to the 220R. But I am keep receiving the following messages upon boot up. (I have also attached an ethernet cable to the port too)

What is causing the problem and how do I bootup ?

Hello Eric,
issue BREAK (this depends on the terminal emulation used: Tera Term ALT+B, Hyperterm CTRL+BREAK ?) to get to the ok-prompt.
Check the current settings of diag-switch? and boot-device.
<b>printenv</b> (displays all settings) or a certain setting
<b>printenv diag-switch?
printenv boot-device
printenv diag-device
printenv auto-boot?</b>
If <b>diag-switch? true</b> the system tries to boot from net !
<b>setenv auto-boot? false </b> disables automatic bootup
When you power-on the system, it's now stops at the ok-prompt.
Are there any disks installed ?
<b>probe-scsi-all</b>
Try to boot from a Solaris CD and review the disk layout with <b>format</b>.
<b>setenv diag-switch? false</b> disable diagnostics
<b>setenv diag-device disk</b>

  • Final K8N2P bootup problems solved...!

    When I first built this system last week I experienced a really annoying bootup problem when booting into WinXP....the system would lock up with a blue screen *Machine Error* every single time....so I loaded the "failsafe" bios settings, booted into XP finally, and then began a process of elimination among the bios settings to try and determine which ones disagreed with WinXP so much....  (Oh, joy!)
    To make a long and tedious story very short, I eventually found that I had to manually *disable* UDMA auto-config for my empty hard-drive slot of IDE0 secondary channel, and in combination with that had to *disable* UDMA auto-config for both of the DVD/CD-ROM devices I had then which were located at IDE1 primary and secondary. (All jumper settings for the drives were correct, btw, and the machine error manifested whether I set CS or M&S or, in the case of my WD boot drive, "stand-alone.")  Once I did that, I could boot fine from IDE0 prime autoconfigged @ UDMA5, and my two IDE1 devices would then boot with PIO4 set by the bios's PIO autoconfig. I had to set it up exactly this way to boot--doing one or the other as regards each IDE channel would result in the Machine Error that I didn't want see--so I had to do both, in other words, to boot.
    In reading the forums here I  saw mention of ps2 keyboard problems, but replacing my PS2 kboard with a native USB kboard *did not* solve the problem or change its nature (had no problems with either native PS/2 or USB kboards.)  Then I read about config problems people had with Audigy2's, so I removed  my A2Zs card, refreshed the CMOS, and rebooted--right back into the Machine Error again (unless I manually setup the IDE channel UDMA autoconfig as described above, of course.)  So my A2Zs (0350) was not the cause of the problem.  I did the same thing with my TX4200 PCI RAID controller--again, without positive result.  Last, I disabled WinXp SP2's Data Execution Prevention to see if that might have been the cause--it was *not* (so I reenabled it with the OptIn policy.)  So by then I knew the problem was not caused by my keyboard, my A2Zs, DEP, or my PCI RAID controller--any one of which, of course, *might conceivably* have caused a resource conflict of some kind--so I had to to test out all of these avenues.
    That done, I had a hunch and went out and picked up a couple of new DVD/CD-W drives (as described now in my SIG), and lo and behold, from the first attempt I could successfully boot into XP without the Machine Error that had defeated my best efforts at troubleshooting for all of last week--I could boot fine with all of the bios settings for IDE 0&1 UDMA and PIO set to "auto" without incident for the first time!  I was also a bit surprised to see that these new DVD/CD's run natively in UDMA 2--not PIO4 (multi-word DMA) as had both of my former CD-type drives on IDE1.
    So the problem having been solved in this fashion I will make the following observation about the K8N2P (I'm running stock bios 1.3):  this board does not like *old crap* connected to it!....  Heh...  My former CD-type drives were scarcely two-years older than the drives I installed today (according to their tagged manufacturing dates), but even so my old drives were "old enough" it seems to not get along with my k8n2P system's resource allocation!  Installation of the new drives solved the last remaining problem that I had, I'm very glad to say.
    Although I didn't have to, I also got rid of my old TEAC floppy drive--and replaced it with a USB HDD which is so quiet and unobtrusive I have to pinch myself to make sure it's there...
    Finally, along the lines of "old stuff"  I did note that the board does not seem to recognize PS/2 devices using PS/2-to-USB adaptors of any description--so go native whether PS/2 or USB and you should be fine.
    I'm certainly relieved--hope this account helps a few folks!

    Did you by the way try with one of the old ones as the only optical on the IDE1 port , or have the opticals on IDE0 and harddrive on IDE1.
    Some has had success in swapping it around if i remember correctly.
    Thanks, syar....  I'm just relieved that everything is working as expected now as it was a bit of a bummer to have to go to a bootup workaround for a new system over something as routine as IDE autoconfig.
    Those older drives, a Samsung CD-RW/DVD SM332 and a Lite-On LTR32123S CDRW, came out of my former nf2 (Chaintech 7njs) system--that the wife will inherit from My Most Beneficent Self (which of course was my excuse to build a new system)--and if I recall correctly it seems the combo presented some problems for me there which I finally solved by going to a cable select setting for them in the Chaintech.  So maybe it's just the particular combination of these drives in my case, or possibly something less than completely compatible optical-drive support from the nVidia IDE controller implementation...?  I didn't try swapping them on the channels, but I did try setting the IDE 0 secondary UDMA bios config to "auto" while disabling the UDMA auto-config for IDE1 prime and second--and still got the machine error, and vice-versa.  It does indeed seem to me as if these newer platforms are a bit pickier about what you hook up than maybe was the case in the past (with nf2 and circa core logic.)
    Edit: Wanted to add as well that these new DVD/CDRW drives (manufactured mid '04) are *a lot* quiter in operation (aside from being generally faster.)  Spinning up, the old drives reminded me of a washing machine in the "spin" cycle...  I have to listen to even hear these--what a difference a couple of years can make, eh?

  • Sun Enterprise 220R to Dell Poweredge 2161 DS-2 KVM

    Hi there,
    I have a some Sun Enterprise 220R servers with graphics card and one 8 miniDIN female socket for Keyboard/mouse - I would like to connect this machine to a Dell Poweredge 2161 DS-2 KVM for remote control.
    The solution I have come up with is as follows - If anyone has used this solution or similiar, can you let me know if it worked or not please?
    Sun 8 miniDIN Female socket -> USB-SUN-R -> SIP (USB & VGA to RJ45) -> RJ45 Cable to KVM
    VGA Connector -> -> SIP (USB & VGA to RJ45) -> RJ45 Cable to KVM
    NOTE: the SIP cable in the above layout is the one cable - Its just easier to lay it out as above - same for the RJ45 cable
    I would be only using one USB connection on the output of the USB-SUN-R device
    Any suggestion greatly received - Maybe there is something easier than i have envisaged
    Thanks

  • Can't get terminal on Sun Enterprise 220R

    Hi folks, wondering if you can help me.
    I recently acquired an Enterprise 220R on the 2nd hand market. I am assured (reliably) that it was working fine before it was disconnected from its previous home, where it was accessed via a console server.
    I, however, cannot get a terminal on it. I have tried using 9600-8-n-1 ANSI with no flow control in HyperTerminal COM17, as well as several other combinations, and nothing. Cable setup is as follows:
    XP Laptop - USB 232 adaptor - 232-RJ45 adaptor - standard ethernet cable - DB25-RJ45 adaptor - Terminal A on the 220R.
    I am able successfully raise a terminal on my Sun Fire V100 immediately using the same adaptor and same HyperTerm settings, in the following cable config:
    XP Laptop - USB 232 adaptor - 232-RJ45 adaptor - standard ethernet cable - A LOM on V100.
    That tells me:
    - that I am using the correct COM port
    - that the USB-serial adaptor is working
    - that the serial-RJ45 adaptor is working
    - that hyperterm is configured correctly
    SO: I have tried both straight through and crossover cables on the E220R with no success. I have tried different baud rates, different terminal settings, nothing. both ethernet cables have been tested with a cable tester.
    The system is keyed to the power on/off position. Both PSUs are connected and there is no maintenance light.
    What am I doing wrong? I assume it's something to do with either Hyperterm settings or my ethernet cable/connector pinouts? I can crimp cables in any configuration if I know what that configuration is. The DB25-RJ45 adaptor came with the box on Serial A so I assume it's the correct one.
    Please help as this box needs to be used in production ASAP.
    Many thanks
    Cheers James

So the exact wiring of the two adapters you are relevant. This sequence can create either a "straight through", or a "null modem", or something completely different.
    You must have a "null modem" setup for this to work, because both the XP and the Sun have DTE wired serial ports.
    I am able successfully raise a terminal on my Sun Fire V100 immediately using the same adaptor and same HyperTerm settings, in the following cable config:

That's not useful for serial hookups. A serial "rollover" cable could be useful in some cases, but an ethernet crossover cable won't work well.

I think it's the final adapter. You can view the serial connections on this page. If you know the pinouts of that final adapter, you can construct the correct cable:

  • Enterprise 220R is down and no remote/local access seems possible...urgent

    My ass is grass here if I can't get this fixed shortly...
    I had to bring down our Sun Enterprise 220R and now cannot get the thing to boot with services running, can only ping the box.
    1. I understand solaris boxes don't boot and instead bring up this Forth OBP menu. Any way to bypass this without having access to the box via telnet/etc.?
    2. I have connected a serial cable to both port A (db-25) and port B with no sucess on a Windows laptop running HyperTerminal @ 9600-n-8-1. Doing this same thing to another sun box works fine. On the 220R nothing happens in window. All seems dead.
    I am desperate to get this thing booting and will face serious wrath if it isn't done shortly. Naturally we have no video card in box or keyboard for access.
    Help is desperately needed...

    Does it have an rsc card? If so, the OBP params are changed to redirect I/O to the card. I had this happen on one of my 280Rs. I had to power the machine down, then power it up. While it is powering up watch the amber maintenance light (the small wrench) on the front. When it flashes, press the power buton twice. This boots the machine up in default OBP params allowing serial port access. Be sure to have your hyper/tera term inplace before you do this. Also, sounds like machine is booting in Single User, replying to pings but no telnet nor ftp etc. Could have a nice fsck waiting for you.

  • Imac bootup problem

    I'm having bootup problems with both my imac and MacBook Pro. It's a coincidence that both are having similar problems I'm sure and wonder if anyone can shed some light on my plight? It's doubly frustrating!
    I've gone through the safe boot method and then press restart but both of them still hang as soon as I try to open an application. e.g if I go to the apple icon to "About this computer" it just stalls and stays on the spinning ball. I've also tried the Ctl+cmd+ R option a few times but keep going round in circles. Any suggestions?

    Both cards have dual channels. I've tried with different cables, different terminators, different ways to connect to the server (all in one port on the card, or each hard of D1000 on each card, etc) but still can't see the disks.
    The modinfo show the glm version and it is loaded.

    "/pci@1f,4000/scsi@4,1" 3 "glm"

    It turns out this was an issue with the META-INF/weblogic-application.xml having duplicate entries for the "webapp.encoding.default" parameter.
    This obviously got duplicated when my app was re-imported into the Eclipse OPEP environment for WLS 10.3.2
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <wls:weblogic-application xmlns:wls="http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-application" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/javaee_5.xsd http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-application http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-application/1.0/weblogic-application.xsd">
    <!-- server-version: 10.3 -->
    <!--weblogic-version:10.3.2-->
    <wls:application-param>
    <wls:param-name>webapp.encoding.default</wls:param-name>
    <wls:param-value>UTF-8</wls:param-value>
    </wls:application-param>
    <wls:application-param>
    <wls:param-name>webapp.encoding.default</wls:param-name>
    <wls:param-value>UTF-8</wls:param-value>
    </wls:application-param>
    </wls:weblogic-application>
    Removing the duplicate entry resolved this problem.
    I hope this helps anyone else that experiences this issue.

  • BusinessObjects Enterprise HOST NAME PROBLEMS

    As we can find in other posts, we know that BO has problems with underscore in the host name.
    I read in some posts that the problem can be solved by writing the IP address instead of the host name when we use Infoview or whatever we need.
    I've done two BO enterprise installations in two different Vitual Machines (made with Virtual PC).
    I know that SAP guarantees that BO works fine only on VMware platform with the host name without underscores.
    The host on the first Virtual Machine was named correctly, but after the installation I changed it inserting an underscore; after this the Infoview login interface didn't work. So I tried to write the IP address and It worked properly.
    Trying to use Designer and Translation Manager I had  only to use the IP address instead of the current host name.
    The host on the second Virtual Machine was named with an underscore, and after the installation I launched the Infoview login interface that didn't work. Again I tried to write the IP address and It worked properly, but in this case I couldn't launch the Designer and I couldn't import the universe from cms with the Translation Manager!!!
    I got this exception opening the Designer:

    I'd like to know if:
    1) Is this a problem because of the Virtual PC virtual machine?
    2) Is this a problem because of the BO problem with underscore in the host name?
    and
    3) How can I resolve this problem without changing the host name?
    Thank you for your attention,
    Giorgio

    Hi Agliano,
    changing the Hostname of a Server after BO is installed is a bad idea ! The WAR files for your Tomcat are in some sort "hardcoded".
    I would suggest re- deploying your war files on the Tomcat would fix this issue. Check SAP Note - 1308027 for assistance.

  • Enterprise Designer strange problem

    Hello,
    I’m very new to this forum and to JCAPS.
    May be someone can advise me what can I do with my problem as Im completely stuck.
    I was making an installation of JCAPS 5.1.3 steb-by-steb by the installation guide.
    I start repository and domain, and I wanted to start Enterprise Designer. I downloaded it, unzipped it, and run runed.bat.
    The window with title “Sun SeeBeyond Enterprise Designer” appears, but its completely empty. No panels, no components, only menu with “Help” and “Tools”.
    Does someone experienced this already? Is it any wey to fix it?
    Regards,
    Alex

    This is expected behavior. The initial download is just a shell run by Java. You must choose Tools, then Update Center, which will then connect to the repository and display the available downloads (base level GUI components, plus optional adapter GUI components). To start, select all of them and download, and then allow the eDesigner to restart. This will populate the eDesigner into a fully functional tool.
    In the future you may want to limit the adapters and other optional components that you install into the Repository, so that the eDesigner is not so large. But this is a tuning technique.

  • Windows service pack 2 and Oracle10g Enterprise manager access problem

    I have problem accessing the OEM-page from a computer other than the one Oracle10g is installed on. I suspect the Windows XP SP2 is blocking me from making the connection from and external computer. Hence I need to unblock the .exe file. But what is the name of the actual .exe file for the online enterprise mangager?
    Hope you have some tips!
    Best regards,
    Runar J. Solberg

    Not sure what you mean...Can you elaborate? Are you getting any errors? You are just opening a page using Internet Explorer on your client machine. I'm going to install SP2 on my client machine so may be i'll experience some errors after the SP upgrade.

  • CSS bootup problem

    Hi,
    I have one CSS11501 without PCMCIA flash disk, I tried to booted it via network, it can normally boot, but after bootup, there are some error message. After login to CSS, it accept very few command only. The attachment is the screen capture file during CSS bootup. Can you please give me some advise to resolve this problem?
    Best Regards,

    Hi,
    What you are seeing is normal without having any type of disk in the CSS. The first error is because the CSS is trying to save the running-config to startup-config which is trying to save to disk which you do not have. The other commands like show run are trying to do another disk operation by showing your config. All in all, this is because youhave no disk in the CSS.
    The net boot is a minimum load up and should not be run this way permanently, You really need to get atleast one pcmcia disk for operation.

  • WAP4410N WPA2 Enterprise Mixed authentication problem against Cisco ACS 4.2

    We have 3 x WAP4410N at new office setup in Singapore.
    Customer asked us to setup those 3 AP to make client auth against an ACS 4.2 sitting in US office.
    All the user notebooks were joined to Windows domain in US office, before sent out to Singapore office.
    We configured APs with WPA2 Enterprise Mixed mode and entered radius server address and secrects correctly.
    Logging from ACS shows that users are authenticated successfully but, on the user notebooks, authentication never seems successful and keeps authenticating.
    We have tried with other option (RADIUS) but, problem persists.
    Please help.

    Hi Robert,
    Firmware version is 2.0.4.2.
    We have tested with WPA-personal, WPA2-personal and all worked.
    For enterprise, we have tested using WPA-ent, WPA2-ent, WPA2-ent-mixed and RADIUS.
    All did not work.
    Client keeps flapping between auth and validation.
    ACS logs showed that auth OK.
    Syslog from AP showed that client was assiciated but it happened repeatedly.

                                                                                                        \____ Wired Clients
    Note: SG office ASA is 5505 and outside interface is on Vlan 2, inside interface is on Vlan 1. 2960 switch is configured with all ports in Vlan 2. Vlan feature on WAP4410N is disabled. Layer3 communication among US office ACS, SG office ASA5505, DHCP server and WAP4410N is fine. All wired clients in SG office get IP from DHCP server. I feel this is a bit odd and you may need to know.
    Do feel free to let me know, should you need further input from me. Thanks!

  • Enterprise app version problem

    I setup a osx server 3.0 and want to deploy enterprise app using profile manager.
    I added a app called "abc 1.1" in Profile manager - Apps library and I can deploy this app to user with no problem.
    But When I update abc 1.1 to 1.2, I cannot keep both version in app library.
    In app Library , it only shows the app "abc" with no version displayed, so I cannot deploy both versions to users.
    How can I seperate the version in app library instead of over-write my old version when I add the new version to the app library?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Tushar,
    There are different possible ways to do this. You can do this with .NET (FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo), or with WinAPI (GetFileVersionInfo()).
    In attachment you can found the example, which returned proper version of the application.
    Best regards,
    Andrey.
