Enterprise architecture?

Refer to the following link:

Figure 12.2 describes an enterprise architecture where actual business
objects are manifested on the client, yet all persisted via a common cache
on an application server. I am very interested in this sort of
architecture and I am wondering if such a thing can be constructed through
Kodo. Any information would be appreciated.

  • Establishing BPM, SOA and Enterprise Architecture and 'Governance'

    Good day all,
(Originally posted on LinkedIn Oracle BPM group)
(This post can also apply to those implementing SOA and/or Enterprise Architecture)
After reviewing Oracle's IT Strategies from Oracle (ITSO) reference library (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/entarch/itso-165161.html) there does not seem to be anything specifically created (yet) targeting a BPM Governance Framework.
It is mentioned in a document in the above mentioned library, titled "Business Process Engineering", document ID E20216-03, file name of, oracle-pg-bpm-bus-proc-eng-r3-0-292099, page 5-2, 3rd paragraph, and I quote, " (see A Framework for BPM Governance for more information). Yet there is no link or section to or for said reference nor anything else within that document. Disappointing.
The closest and so far best approach I feel is a PDF file titled, ONE 2010-ART-BPM Governance Framework-VKhusidman-v51, authored by Vitaly Khusidman, titled "BPM Governance Framework", BPTrends ▪ July 2010
In this above document Dr. Khusidman recommends utilizing TOGAF as a framework for establishing the BPM Governance Framework. This also seems like a sound approach for those addressing the Enterprise Architecture (and governance which is a part of that larger 'whole') as well as SOA and BPM, especially those moving to a combination of SOA and BPM.
What are the thoughts and approaches being used by others, who may also be using some of Oracle's products and tools, and tasked with addressing the whole enterprise and/or SOA-BPM combined?
    Cheers

Or that phase of product life cycle..
It seems as if academics are taking an increasing interests in SDN for gathering data. Possibly a knock-on of the University Alliances.
    IMO this one is legitimate.

  • Guidance for Enterprise Architecture

    Hi All,
I have an experience of ABAP and fucntional in SAP. I would like to shift to career in Enterprise architecture. Could Please anyone guide me to start in SOA.
    Thanks In Advacne,
    Kiran V.

    Hi Kiran,
If you want a career change to Enterprise Architecture, why do you think that SOA is a good starting point? You definitely need to understand SOA because it 'can' be (not necessarily) a cog in the wheel or an enabler of an organisation's Enterprise Architecture.
Surely you would want to start by learning and applying a specific (or several) Enterprise Architecture Framework/s like TOGAF for example?
Get an overview of what SOA is by reading an e-book 'SOA for dummies', it's a free IBM publication as far as I can remember, Google it & download it. Once you have a high level understanding of SOA then rather start with an Enterprise Architecture Framework. You can follow the [Togaf Learning Series|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/weblogs/topic/38] of blogs by Gourav Khare as a start.
Another excellent guide is the [SOA Source Book from the Open Group|http://www.opengroup.org/projects/soa-book/]

  • Enterprise Architecture Framework (ESA Adoption Program)

I have read that SAP has its own Enterprise Architecture Framework which is used by their own consulting Division.  I have read this will be moved to the public domain in the first quarter 2007 to complement ESA.  Does anyone know when this will be available and how it can be accessed.
Will this be linked to the ESA Adoption Program and will there be accelerators available.

    Hello,
I see some kind of feedback loop between system's ESA Adoption Program (ESOA Roadmap) and SAP EA Framework in this way that :
    1. ESA Adoption Program (process) reflects common business/organisational and IT strategy and defines SOA projects in which Solution Architecture and Enterprise Architecture must be build or rebuild.
In consequence SAP EA Framework is used.
    2. Plan Phase of SAP EA Framework Architecture Development Cycle (ADC) with defined gaps between "to-be" and "as-is" affects Define and Evaluate Phase of ESA Adoption Program by defining details, corrections and new possibilities around services in existing Program.
Additionally if we have new Building Blocks (eg new components to reuse) SAP EA Framework Repository is changed.
    3. In effect next "New Solution" project is conducted by updated ESA Adoption Program and uses updated SAP EA Framework,

    Hi Mike,
I just saw your post. Sorry for the confusing behavior. This is not something that we've seen occur or had reported in the past - very strange.
My initial thought is that it may have something to do with the "Reply by email" functionality of discussions on Community Groups and the format of you title "Reminder: <original title>" However, I see that you also made some changes to the title beyond adding "Reminder:", so I'm not sure that theory holds up.
Either way, we'll need to dig into this a bit further to figure out the source of the issue and correct it moving forwards. Thanks for reporting this and please let me know if you see unusual behavior along these lines again.
    Thanks!

  • Duet Enterprise Architecture

    Hi Experts,
This might be a possibly silly question however I have done some studies and research but I'm getting quite confused on the architecture of Duet Enterprise, so my main question would be do we need a server for Duet? Or is it Duet is installed in SAP Netweaver Gateway and that is known as Duet Server?
    Regards,
    Jordi

    Hi Jordi,
No, you do not need an extra server for Duet Enterprise. You install Duet Enterprise into the same system as the SAP NetWeaver Gateway system.
Simply put: Duet Enterprise server = Gateway server.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers, Alex

  • Enterprise architecture design

What are the factors to weigh when designing an enterprise deployment for Oracle into to multiple business units (stand alone hospitals) that are all under the same corporate umbrella?

The most important thing is to have only 1 Enterprise Manager repository
so that you have a single view of all installations for the whole corporate.
Use commondity servers, Linux and Intel, with 2 cpus each and 8 GB of RAM.
Have at least 3 or 4 management servers (OMS) all connected to a hardware
load balancer like Big IP. Have a failover Big IP as well since that is the
    most important thing.
For the database, you can have it on a single node, or using a standby
and Oracle Dataguard technology, or you can have a RAC. But the most
important aspect are the management servers.
Using such a configuration, you can manage more than a 1000 targets in
    Grid Control.
In your case, I would suggest putting the database server in 1 central location,
this is quite important so you have a central view.
    Regards,
    Porus.

  • **ACS enterprise architecture**

Is it possible to use a combination of full version ACS appliances configured as primary at a HQ site, with remote branch offices configured as secondary servers that are running on ACS express  appliances?? OR are there limitations on the ACS express appliances that would prevent this type of setup.
    Thanks

ACS Express and ACS not-express are totally different products. They cannot be in the same distributed deployment (i.e. replication partners) since they don't support the same stuff and don't work the same way.
This said, you can use Express at the branch office and not-express on central site ... Just don't expect replication :-)

  • Enterprise Architecture Question

    Hello.
I was tasked with creating user interface that allows for management of customers in the central database. The task is self-explanatory, but the tables in the database are numerous and connected in multiple levels of relationships. Majority of tasks necessary already have stored procedures associated with them in the DB. My question is: Do I proceed with this project using the new Persistence API with EJB 3, or should I just stick with the standard JDBC/embedded SQL calls? This project is a "short-term" throw-away solution which has to be built rather quickly. Any suggestions and recommendations would be welcome.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
stored procedures cannot be handled using JPA (in the next JPA generation there should be some kind of support). So you can use hibernate (using native queries) - but it's not very good way as well - try to check spring framework (JDBC templates etc) how it deals with this - otherwise use normal DAO / DTO patterns and pure JDBC.
    regards
    Y

  • Windows 7 Enterprise is not genuine after installing new hard-drive and cloning the old one

I retired from my job as a university professor two years ago, and they let me keep my laptop computer, which is a Dell Latitude E4300 with Windows 7 Enterprise installed. I do not have any of the original disks for Windows. Recently, the hard-drive began
to fail, so I replaced it with a new one, cloning the old hard-drive onto the new one. Soon after that, a popup window began appearing saying that this computer is not running genuine windows. One important consequence of this is that I can no longer use Windows
Update, so I have concerns about security. If I go to the control panel under “System”, it says windows is activated and gives me the Product ID. I have talked to tech support at Microsoft, and they tell me something along the lines of the following: that
the problem is the new hard-drive is not recognized as being licensed to use this copy of Windows, and that I should post a question on one of the forums asking this: How can I reinstall Windows 7 Enterprise on the new hard-drive? Any assistance will be much
    appreciated.
PS I have no idea which forum this should go under, so pretty much just picked one randomly.

  • BPEL 10.1.2 hub-and-spoke or distributed architecture?

    Hi,
I'm currently wrestling with the following question:BPEL 10.1.2 hub-and-spoke or distributed architecture?
    Hi,
I'm currently wrestling with the following question:
An ESB as per definition of e.g. Forrester should be capable of supporting a distributed bus architecture. From my understanding this distributed bus architecture is achieved by installing some sort of ESB component(s) on all machines that are participating in this infrastructure, together forming a ‘bus’.
As I understand the BPEL 10.1.2 product basically offers two categories of functionality: orchestration and integration. Does this integration part offer ESB alike functionality and more specific allows for a distributed bus architecture? As far as I can see the BPEL 10.1.2 offers limited ESB alike functionality and only supports a hub-and-spoke architecture.
Other threads in this forum talk about using BPEL 10.1.2 together with InterConnect in order to foresee in ESB functionality. What does InterConnect add to the BPEL 10.1.2 integration functionality?
As of SOA suite 10.1.3 these products have been split up into a BPEL product and an ESB product. Is the ESB product in SOA suite 10.1.3 a combination of the integration from BPEL 10.1.2 and InterConnect? Is this new ESB product able to support a distributed architecture?
I’m very much in favor of a distributed architecture compared to hub-and-spoke, as hub-and-spoke requires a very solid and redundant system that is going to handling all message traffic and other functions. When moving towards a SOA giving an ESB a back-bone role, I’m not very keen on introducing a single system that should actually make up this ESB. Distributed would mean all machines are taking care of some basic functions resulting in a fully functional ESB, even when one or more machines are down.
Am I making sense with this? I would like to know how others are looking at these topics.

We are struggling with this issue too. The "all-pervasive" vision of the ESB visionaries, in my opinion, means that every node in my enterprise architecture should have access to the bus and I should be able to orchestrate anything that is running on any node in my architecture. We were told to think of an ESB as the equivalent of the hardware bus in computers. From that perspective I thought that:
    (1) BPEL and ESB functions would add a marginal increment to the licensing cost of an app server - I should be able to afford an "all-pervasive" architecture.
    (2) BPEL and ESB functions would add a "marginal increment" to the memory and resource foot-print. Again, I should be able to afford an "all-pervasive" architecture.
Are these two satisfied by Oracle's products ? Some vendors don't seem to support the above two. In that case there is a disconnect between the marketing and technology departments of the vendors. What am I missing ?
If BPEL engines and ESBs are priced very high, based on economics we will end up with a hub-and-spoke model.
    Thanks

  • Gap analysis between current and future architecture in BPA suite?

We are developing a vision of our enterprise architecture for the next three years, using BPA suite. We do this by describing the current architecture (base) and the future architecture (goal).
Is it possible to somehow link the two (base and future) and generate a report about the differences?
    Thanks,
    Lonneke

    Hello Lonneke,
yes there are a lot of point within the BPA suite that can be used to express exactly what you are planning. E.g. you can maintain installation status related attributes for application system types etc.
So most of the EA related information should be stored in object and model attributes.
But the most important point when building up a "as is" and (like in most cases when it comes to EA modeling) many "to be" scenarios is that you set up your repository right. This will protect you from much additional work later on (e.g. for cleaning up bad structures).
    In general follow this structure:
    a) clearly separate the different points in time
    b) set up clear defined libraries for the static objects
    c) define the levels of the EA you need for your specific situation (business architecture, application architecture, information architecture and infrastructure architecture). Keep this levels separated!
There are a few reports provided that could be used to evaluate the differences. Take a closer look at the "Analysis" section within the reports folder of the BPA suite. There are some useful evaluations as well. But never the less you would also have to write some specific reports for your use case(es).

    Dirk
