Enterprise Suite / WebSphere / Server Hang
Hello everyone,
We are running the entire Enterprise Suite v5.02 (portal, content, collab., studio, etc.) on a single machine.
This is a development environment with very low concurrency (1 to 3 developers max). The server has 2.5 GB of RAM and 2 PIII 1.266 GHz processors. I have been told that this should be sufficient to support our small dev. team.
We have had problems with the server occasionally (a couple of time per week) entering a "hung" state. It hangs to the point that we actually need to power off the machine. This is very troubling. This began happening with v5.01 and continues after the upgrade to v5.02.
We are running all of the Plumtree EARs on WebSphere 4.07. Each EAR is hosted on its own application server.
Our W2K admins have noted that there are quite a few java processes (java.exe) running. This is true since each application server runs in its own java process.
Is it necessary to run each EAR on its own application server on this single WebSphere node? I would like to consolidate the EARs onto fewer application servers if possible but have been told that not all of the Enterprise Suite applications play nicely together. Does anyone have any experience in this area?
Any advice is much appreciated. We don't really know what is causing the "hung" state and we cannot recreate it but it only happens when someone is actively using the portal.

Based on your comments, is it fair to say that yes we can consolidate onto fewer application servers but it doesn't sound like this is the root of our server "hang" issue?
Unfortunately, we are hitting a dead end here. We have pursued this with both Plumtree and WebSphere support and neither has found any glaring problems that may account for the issue. Granted, the fact that the box completely freezes and needs to be powered off makes it difficult to troubleshoot.
Is it hardware, OS, WebSphere, or Plumtree software? The only thing we can say for sure is that the box is only being used for portal and the box only hangs when someone is actually hitting the portal through the browser. Too bad we can't easily recreate it.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Do I need to buy the Enterprise Suite or just Forms module?
Hello,
My company needs to use the funcionalities that Forms module gives, so we are planning to purchase it. But I'm not sure if it's possible to use its functionalities just having this module, or if we need to buy the Enterprise Suite because it includes the server and other things that are needed to deploy the applications.

The application is not complex, we have a pdf template and data in xml files and we have to merge them to generate the filled pdf files. The problem is that the number of files generated will be thousands, and I know LC Output is prepared to generate batches of many files but they are flat pdfs, not forms.
It doesnt have to be an online app, it will just be executed once to generate all the files. I know LC Forms can merge the data, because I tried it with the trial version, but I'm not sure if there is a way to automate this process for thousands of files.
That's basically why I doubt if we should use this module. Has anyone tried to do something similar with LC Forms?

SOA Suite 11g server soa_server1 stops at STARTING state
I have installed Jdev Studio 11.1.3.0 along with SOA suite 11.1.3.0 and XE database to run SOA 11G on my machine which runs on Windows Vista OS.I have successfully able to start the Weblogic server and it is in <RUNNING> state.Now I tried to start soa_server1(SOA Suite 11G) from command prompt but it hangs after <STARTING> state.I have tried several times and also waited for more than an hour to leave the thread to start the SOA suite 11g server but it hangs there.Please help me.Any kind of help is welcome.

Now it is still taking a lot of time to be in up state.After the soa_server1 is up I logged in em console but there was no soa-infra in the em console and also soa_server1 was showing down.The settings that I changed were remove the association of machine of soa_server1.

Oracle Applcation Server - Repors Server Hang or Lock
Hi All,
Our Enterprise is using Oracle DB 10 g and For Frontend we are using Oracle Application Server - Forms and Reports Services
When using the reports IN WEB, we get a default of SUBMIT QUERY AND RESET WHEN RUNNING THE RDF.
OUR USERS WHEN THEY SUBMIT QUERY TWO OR THREE TIMES, WE GET THE PROBLEM OF REPORTS SERVER HANGING AS DUPLICATE JOBS COME IN QUEUE.

Web Start & Enterprise Web Start Server
Hi all
I looked around Solaris Web Start thing and it looks great to me. But there are still too many things I don't understand. I already browsed Sun sites but did not succeed to get clear status of the whole situation.
First, let me explain what I would like to do. I want to remotely install several Sun machines (with both Solaris and my own applications) from a unique graphical interface. For example, I sit in front of any PC with a browser and just go to the installation URL. That's it.
At first sight, I thought Sun Enterprise Web Start Server would be the solution. But, I've only found that page: http://www.sun.com/servers/sw/webstart/ and the download link is broken. Anyone knows where it has gone? And does it answer to my needs?
I see this other possibility: to use Web Start Wizards. It is Java software and it is said that it can be used to install software remotely. My question is: does it rely on Java Web Start? If not, how does it work?Hi Sebgrel,

How to find out the info regarding Solaris, server hang or shutdown.
Hi
As I am handling the Solaris 9 Server remotely.
As in last week the server has stopped to respond suddenly, we have tried to ping, ssh which was not working. As ultimately we have asked the Data Centre Team to hard reboot the same, to resolve the issue.
In the same ref I would like to know how we come to know the reason, what caused to reboot the same, i.e . any log file, etc..
I have check /var/adm/messages, but not found any detail for the same.

you would need to use your service contract and log a support case with Sun.
They have the special software tools to do that. -
Hyper-V host server upgrade from Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 to Server 2012 R2 Datacentre
We are about to upgrade our Hyper-V host servers from Server 2008R2 Enterprise SP1 to Server 2012 R2 Datacentre to take advantage of the latest Hyper-V features.
This only concerns the host servers and not the guest VMs running on the hosts (they will be upgraded next year).
This is what is running on our host servers:
Host 1
File,print & issuing CA server
Exchange 2010
SharePoint 2010
Quickbooks server
Domain controller 1
Offline CRL CA
Host 2
SQL 2008
Forefront TMG 2010
Domain Controller 2
Windows 7 client
With this is mind, I have drafted a rough action plan as follows:
Create a list of all file locations for VM memory, snapshots, virtual memory and Hyper-V config files
Document all existing system settings
Gather server information, download drivers, RAID controller and other boot drivers & firmware updates (in case the in-place upgrade fails)
Test all software media
Copy all VMs onto external data storage (NAS drive)
As part of the upgrade process we will redistribute some hard drive space i.e.
expand them to their new sizes and verify the data integrity of copied VMs by powering up each VM in a test environment
Wipe and adjust the sizes of the host partitions to accommodate the expanded VMs
Perform an in-place upgrade to Server 2012 R2 Datacenter
Check EV, services etc
Change the default locations for VM memory, snapshots, virtual memory and Hyper-V config files
Upgrade Anti-virus and other system software
Test the system

always do a fresh Installation of your hyper-V Hosts, you could end up doing a lot of Troubleshooting with Drivers,Addons etc.. new Installation ist way faster.
Depending if you have a Cluster or Standalone Servers there are different ways to do it.
When you have installed your 2012 R2 Hyper-V Server you just can Import the VMs from the new Location.
As far as i know VMs with snapshots are not supported, so you have to remove them before doing that move and commit the changes to the vhd files, the VM need to be offline on 2008R2 to do that.
You do not Need to Export the VMs on 2008R2, just copy it, normaly you should have all Files of a VM in one Folder.
A working Backup is always your friend on such Tasks.
When the VMs are running on Hyper-V 2012R2 do not forget to Update the Integration Services.
Make Sure your Servers Hardware are still supported with 2012R2, see Server Catalog and Support Matrix of the Vendor.
And last one, where possible and supported convert the VHDs to VHDx Disks, after testing the first boot of the VM.

Stuck Threads Leading to server hang
Hi ,
We have been facing a problem with Stuck Threads in our production environment. We are currently running version 8.1. Though the stuck Threads do point to JDBC issues, we suspect that these problems may be related to some Weblogic/OS configuration issue as well. These probelms eventually lead to a server hang.
The general pattern of the problem is that we see messages like :

Sometimes a deadlock Exception would be thrown from the Database,
nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00060: deadlock detected while waiting for resource
But this is not as often as we get the Stuck Thread messages.

I guess this issue is related to your connectivity and hyperion services. Can you take a restart and try to execute the reports. Also try to check all your Hyperion services are up and running before executing the FR Reports. You can also check the Reporting services by login to Weblogic server (if you have applied it in your environment). In weblogic it should be in Running mode and not in Admin mode. If it is not in Running mode then try to check the Data Source setting from Connection Pool in Weblogic Server.

We have three modules (in separate ear files) which are deployed to a weblogic cluster. This cluster consists of two domains (hosted on different machines). The modules comunicate by using jms.
Each module is composed of mdbs, ssbs (stateless session beans) and a work engine framework. The mdbs publish messages to jms using a ssb publisher. The mdb uses a local reference to communicate with the stateless session bean publisher. This ssb uses jndi to retrieve the references to the queues and connection factories that it uses.
We are experiencing a problem during load testing (only in the clustered environment), the symptom of this problem is that the server hangs. We cannot obtain any logs from the server that even hints at what the problem is. Taking a look into periodic thread dumps during the test it seems that everything is ok.
We have considered the following as causes of this problem:
- possible locks while retrieving reference queues and connection factories for publishing.
The stateless session bean publisher is based on the implementation detailed in the URL

- Too many accesses to jndi tree to look up the persistence manager factory (kodo)

It was also hanging before installation but i use command linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf.Have you tried linux acpi=off ?

Server hangs up when tryin to read object Urgent Help Plz

I've been working on a client-server model for a while, I've tested my applicaction a thousand of times locally (I mean, server and serveral clients running on the same machine) and it's ok, now I finally run server in a remote host and I find it rarely works fine, most of the times server hangs up when tryin to read objects I dont know why.

here u copy that file.....
go to dynamic webproject, right click>properties>java build path-->add external
jars>add that sapjco.jar file and click okfinish..
now u write ur program..........
it works fine...........
