Envy x360 2015 is not using Nvidia GTX 930m - GTX 900 Series not boot graphics

I custom ordered a 2015 Envy x360 with a gtx 930m and my laptop was using Intel HD 5500 graphics out of the box. The BIOS has no option to configure boot graphics that I could find (even after a BIOS update through HP's driver/software update page). The 930m is detected and running correctly, but it is not the boot graphics and the only program I can get to actually use the GPU is Nvidia's Geforce Experience. Am I missing something here? EDIT: I have also updated my Nvidia drivers from HP's driver update site.

I just got off the phone with an HP support case manager and he wouldn't guarantee or even suggest that it was likely that the boot graphics option would be added to the BIOS.My options are return it or don't boot with the graphics card.  According to my research, the InsydeH20 BIOS actually has lots of options and settings but manufacturerers (including HP) often hide the "advanced" settings because we're too dumb to not break our own laptops. If you're feeling frisky you can request that someone unlock your BIOS for you at bios-mods.com to give you access to the advanced options, but you're playing with fire with BIOS modding so... I'm going to go to Best Buy and see if the pre-configured version of my laptop boots on the GPU. If it does then I'm going to request that HP send me that pre-configured model to make ammends for what they've done. Good luck to you, please let me know if you get any new information

Not sure if it uses data, but that allows you to multitask.  To save battery life you should close out of all the apps.

  • Photoshop Elements 6:   Could not use type tool because the file could not be found

Using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 well for a while.
Tried to use the Type Tool to overlay text and obtained this error:
Could not use the type tool because the file could not be found
After research, I reset all tools, tried to repair (failed: insert disc one), and then removed/re-installed.  Still have the same problem.
Are the system fonts corrupt or is an Adobe .ini file suspect?
Other reports have suggested using a 3rd-party font manager to inspect/disable fonts.
First wanted to post this error here for feedback/recommendations
Any suggestion on how to recover the Type Tool functionality?

    Adobe Photoshop Elements Repair Workaround
When trying to repair the well-known:  insert disc one, error occurred.  Was able to successfully repair the installation by dragging the entire Adobe Photoshop Elements directory from the original CD-ROM onto a hard drive and executing locally.  Seems it does not like repairing over the CD-ROM but it works correctly if the install source is on disc...

    John,
Yesterday, I decided to completely remove all Adobe products:  PSE 6, Premiere 4, Reader, ActiveX plugins & legacy/old uninstalled product directories that Adobe has left turd-lets around including old Acrobat 3/6 directories.  Used A/D Software to remove all adobe products and then followed your instructions AND the instructions on Adobe's support web site to manually remove these products.
It boiled down to manually removing the entire Adobe directory in Progam Files, "saving" the entire Adobe directory structure in each users (3) Document and Settings in the Application Data and Local Settings (as instructed by you and Adobe) and rebooting.
I also saved the local All Users "configuration" database/cache that contained the Tag and other information to make sure the system was clean
This included following the manual Regit instructions to remove legacy Adobe registry hives.  I deleted all keys for all Adobe product trees that I could locate (following instructions from Adobe).
    Reboot
Scheduled a CHCKDSK on all drives and rebooted
Dragged my complete image library to an archive location and deleted them on the C: drive
    Did a complete system Defrag
Re-installed Adobe and alas still have the same problem with the Type Tool....
The only thing I did not do was selectively remove the "fonts" because various instructions seemed to indicate many are "required" by the windows or other applications and I was not really sure how to identify which ones were safe to remove w/o affecting the core system..  I'll have to re-read these instructions next.
Microsoft has a "Font Validator" tool, but that only checks 1 font at a time and you have to read the "results".  May look for other tools.
Will be able to check the font structure this weekend since it will take some research before I'm comfortable just removing fonts in trial/error mode.  I'll need to make a backup image of my computer before I start this (just in case).
    Thanks for follow-ups too!

  • NVidia packages - let's not use nvidia-installer [RFC]

Hi. After messing around with Xgl I (for some reason) decided that I hated the way the nvidia driver package doesn't account for all the files the nvidia-installer spits out/modifies. I wanted all the files involved to be properly managed by pacman. So I made some PKGBUILDs, looking at Fedora and Gentoo stuff for inspiration, and getting annoyed trying to work out what needs to be where based on NV's unmaintained install makefile..
The PKGBUILDs that follow separate the kernel module from the rest of the nvidia package, but this is by no means necessary - I just wanted to be able to reinstall one without the other (to do with installing gl parts without restarting X - see below for more).
(If there is to be a separation, it may be more logical to put the x.org driver module with the kernel module, with just the GL parts separate.)

..As you can see, the nvidia-glx .install instates the NVidia gl headers to aid compiling against them. If mesa is installed it's versions of these files will be overwritten. Making sure to install the package for the desired headers last seemed like the simplest way to select them. Gentoo has some script to select the gl libs.
PS: This is designed alongside the current mesa-6.4.2-1 package in testing.
So. Any comments? Any good? Or shall I just keep them to myself?

tpowa wrote:well, problem is not that it's not possible, problem is if it is allowed.
i'm not a license expert but as far as i can remember no big distro provides the packages other then nvidia-installer.
    gentoo is a special case.
Yeah, I thought that might be a problem. The LICENSE seems to have a clause to do with splitting up the package...
No Separation of Components.  The SOFTWARE is licensed as a
single product.  Its component parts may not be separated for use
on more than one computer, nor otherwise used separately from the
    other parts.
But this refers to *use* of the seperate parts, which I suppose is a bit vague. Anyhoo, as I say, this modified install method can still work with a combined package. It could even not bother with the kernel module compile if it's already present.
The only other part that seems relevant is...
2.1.2  Linux/FreeBSD Exception.  Notwithstanding the foregoing terms
of Section 2.1.1, SOFTWARE designed exclusively for use on the Linux or
FreeBSD operating systems, or other operating systems derived from the
source code to these operating systems, may be copied and redistributed,
provided that the binary files thereof are not modified in any way
(except for unzipping of compressed files).
But since no binary files are modified this doesn't seem to apply. Of course, IANAL..

  • [W520] Programs not using NVIDIA graphics

Quadro 1000M.  Windws 7. Optimus set in the BIOS.  I have the newest drives on the Lenovo website (8.17.12.7658).  Plugged in to AC power.
The NVIDIA graphics are specified for certain programs in the NVIDIA control panel, also tried right click-->run with NVIDIA graphics.
Device manager shows both the Intel and NVIDIA display adapters with no problems.
When I plug in an external monitor the NVIDIA graphics are used, the NVIDIA GPU activity monitor says "1 display connection".  If I try to start a program with the NVIDIA graphics while an external display is connected, the program still won't use the NVIDIA GPU.
I just ran WEI and for the first time ever the NVIDIA GPU Activity indicator actually lit up a few times, mostly during the "Windows Media Tuning" section, and my graphics score went up from 5.2 to 6.4, so the system is sometimes able to use the NVIDIA graphics.  Although if I hovered the mouse over the NVIDIA GPU indicator it said "GPU activity: none", even while it was lit up, and GPU-Z indicated no NVIDIA GPU activity for the entire WEI test.  I can't figure out what "Windows Media Tuning" means or what exactly is being tested here. [Edit] A WEI test with only integrated graphics enabled in the BIOS also gets 6.4 so the increase from 5.2 to 6.4 wasn't a result of the WEI test using the NVIDIA graphics.  With discrete graphics set in the BIOS I get 6.7.
GPU-Z also indicates that the NVIDIA graphics are not being used (GPU load stays at 0%).  But if I have GPU-Z set to monitor the NVIDIA graphics then the NVIDIA activity indicator lights up, but again it still says "GPU activity: none".
Sometimes when I start a program (eg. Photoshop), the NVIDIA GPU Indicator will light up for a second then go out.  This happens whether I try to start the progam with the Intel or NVIDIA GPU.
If I set the BIOS to discrete graphics then the NVIDIA card is used properly, according to GPU-Z (ie. GPU load shows activity).
I'm pretty sure this all used to work properly, but I don't know when it stopped working.  I just upgraded Photoshop and wanted to see if it was using the NVIDIA graphics so that's how I noticed the problem.  It's been several months since I used the NVIDIA GPU Activity Monitor and I just got GPU-Z to try troubleshoot this problem.
In the ThinkVantage Toolbox when I go to video diagnostics, only the Intel GPU is listed.  But, if I first start GPU-Z and have it monitor the NVIDIA graphics, then start the ThinkVantage Toolbox, the NVIDIA GPU is also listed and I can run a Short Video test (stress test is only available for the Intel graphics), although the test doesn't really run anything (it just takes a second and doesn't display any of the animation).  If I leave the ThinkVantage Diagnostics window open, close GPU-Z, and try to run a test on the NVIDIA GPU again it says "No Device".  GPU-Z while set to monitor the NVIDIA GPU seems to "turn on" or "prime" the NVIDIA GPU so that the diagnostic test can use it.  This doesn't work for other programs (ie. even if GPU-Z is monitoring the NVIDIA GPU, the NVIDIA GPU still won't be used by any other programs I subsequently start).  If I have an external monitor plugged in I can run all the NVIDIA diagnostic tests (short test with graphics, stress test, CUDA test).  I just ran the short test and everything passed.
***This last bullet point seems important to me, is this normal behaviour? Can it point to where the problem is?

  • T540p not using nvidia graphics, very slow

    Hi!
    Well I'm using a T540p with GeForce GT 730M.
When I use applications with WPF or DirectDraw, like Office or Chrome (I think they do...) the notebooks very slow. I get a hight load on system process.
When I use the Process Explorer to see whats going on:
    ntoskrnl.exe!WheaAttemptPhysicalPageOffline
    is on high load.
I checked the Bios: There is no way to deactivate the Intel HD Graphics. Checked the nvidia system settings to: Its set to use GeForce.
Also tried to install newest drivers and so on: They are installed.
    Oh well: I use Windows 7, 64bit.
    Thanks!

  • Could not use the Brush tool because there is not enough RAM? Photoshop CS6?

That and I couldn't even save a project I was working because (There was not enough RAM)
My computer is running Windows 7 with 4 (3 usable) GB Ram, Pentium Dual Core; @ 2.00 Ghz
-I have allocated all possible RAM to CS6
-I set 6 scratch disks (the first two are 1TB external HDD)
-I fixed the file peeling so that there is quite a bit of it
    - I have Photoshop CS5 still installed (it works fine) as well as Elements 9, I don't know if that could be a problem or not.
I like the new features of CS6 especially the new 5000 px brush, but half the time I can't even use it because of this problem! What can I do to fix it?
I mostly use it for digital art so the pictures get to be at most 5000-3300 pixels. I get the problem mostly when I use brushes at 5000 px. CS5 works just fine and it uses the scratch disks I emplace, it seems as though CS6 doesn't even use them.

Obviously, you are running Win7 32-bit OS. Is that correct?
What are the full specs. of your Windows Virtual Memory, the Page File? What is its size, location, and is it static, or dynamically managed?
With a 32-bit OS, I would set the Page File to a fast, internal, physical HDD, set it to be statically managed, and size it to about 2.5x the installed RAM (~ 10GB in your case, and with a 32-bit OS).
That should provide more resources, and by being statically managed, save you CPU cycles too.
I also agree that you do NOT want to allocate all RAM to PS, as the OS needs some too. That will be counter-productive.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

i erased my mac then i tried to download the os x mavericks, wich i had before ; however, i got this Could not find installation information for this machine.

You should not have erased anything. Maverick uses some of the applications from the older software and now that you have erased part of the Operating System you are going to need the Original Install disc's that came with your machine. Hold down the C key while installing then do all of the Software updates then you can install Maverick.

  • HT204053 I tried to buy some thing from APP.  But it always show someone else apple ID.  there fore I can not use my passward.  And I can not use my Apple ID when I want to buy something from App.  How can I fix it?

I tried to use my iphone to buy app.  But it always showed difference apple ID.  Not my apple.  Therefore I can not buy app.  I dont know how to fix it.

What id shows at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app on your phone ? If it's not your id then tap on it and log out of it and you can then log in with your id.
If you have any apps or other content from the id that is currently showing then that content will be tied to that id e.g. only that account will be able to download updates to its apps and make in-app purchases in those apps

  • How do I connect to my wireless HP officejet 4620 printer? I was connected when I set it up, have not used it for 10 days. Cannot figure out how to connect.

I purchased a new hp Officejet 4620 wireless printer about 10 days ago.  I followed the directions with installing it and it worked great.  I did not use it until yesterday.  I was not able to print from the wireless printer.  How do I correct this issue?

I called Office Depot where I bought the printer.  I reinstalled the product software and it is printing.  Thank you for your response.

  • Using Mac OS, Firefox 3.6 will not save nor open html files with spaces in the file name. Will version 4.0 do this?

I have hundreds of saved files with names that have spaces in them (like movie 10 41.html). I could not use Firefox 3.6 because it would not open these files for viewing and had to reinstall Firefox 3.5.8 which I have now. If I install Firefox 4.o, will I have the same problem? I use Mac OS 10.5

I have Firefox 3.6.6, and now that Firefox 4.0 is available, it crashes constantly. Sometimes less than 5 minutes after I open it. I have a Mac 10.4.11, so Firefox 4.0 isn't an option for me. When I asked Ff to check my plug-ins it said there was an error and to check back later. Twice.
Because I didn't have any (any) problems with my Ff before the upgrade became available, I am forced to question if Ff has done something to make the earlier version crash so you'll upgrade, but I can't afford to upgrade my Mac right now.
In the meantime, I do need a browser that works! I dislike Safari, Chrome is also not available on Mac 10.4.11, and Explorer is just plain not available on Mac.
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix my Firefox 3.6.6?
    Ty
