EP6 CM Patch 5 Deployment

Hi,
I am applying CM Patch 5 over CM patch 4 HF 8. After restarting J2EE I checked the error.log and config.0.trc and found that the update has been processed up to 30 out of 67. Actually the server has been restarted automatically after that update and as a result the patch application has not been successful. I refered to note 769859 and checked for the PingReplyTimeout and found the value to be 60000 as mentioned in the note. Even I tried to apply the patch by increasing the value but the result is same. I am running with SAP J2EE patch level 28.
Is there anybody who can help me out. I am in the process of upgrading EP to patch level 34.
Regards,
Sanujit

You need to read the notes 769859 and 752049
if you are starting your server as a service, you need to change the timeout in the r3startupManager too (with the COnfigtool)
One question, wath is the actual level of JavaMachine and Portal ?
Regards.

  • Patch deployment with status "Enforcement state unknown"

    Hi All
I am pretty new to the patch deployment.
I generated a report and see there is Last State column with "Enforcement state unknown", not sure if it means failed for those hostnames or will be retried for the installation.
    Kindly clarify.

They will only start to install updates automatically when there is an active update deployment with a scheduled deadline that has past. See for a lot more information:

Also, when Days since last communication is more than 0, that's usually an indication that the client is not communicating any more. That can be caused by a lot of things including something simple as that the device is turned of, or not
    connected with the network.

  • Enhancements made in EP6 SP2 patches 28 & 29.

    What are the enhancements made in EP6 SP2 patches 28 & 29.
What I mean to say is that what are the new features added in Patches 28 & 29. here I exclude Bug fixes.
I can go to the central note for patch 28 : 793582 and can get a list of notes which indicate bug fixes done in Patch 28
Similar way,  I can go to the central note for patch 29 : 803871 and can get a list of notes which indicate bug fixes done in Patch 29
What I am really concerned is regarding new features added in these two patches (Patch 28 & 29) separately.
Are there any new features added in these two Patch releases. If yes, Where are they documented.
Are they documented separately or their respective guides are updated.
    Your help is really appreciated.

    Hi Robert, hi Suneel,
    > Patch 28 & 29 are not listed there yet.
Not quite right, Robert, I don't know what a dreadfully old version you have looked on... It is listed, but it is explicitely said that both patches, 28 & 29, have
"no new features or enhancements to existing functionality. It is cumulative as of Patch 5. Please refer to Patch 5 and Patch 27 documentation for information about previous enhancements."
The document is retrievable without access to service.sap.com: http://help.sap.com/download/documentation/netweaver/ep/FeaturesEP6SP2Patches_v2.5.pdf
It's a pity that SAP publishes the version name within the link, so if a new version exists, one has to know (or to look via service.sap.com).
    Hope it helps

  • Patch deployment and enabled modules

    Hello
I have a 12.1.3 environment with no modules enabled as part of the base installation.
So what I mean is when I installed 12.1.1 , I did not enable any module components.
My aim is to enable them later based on our current licensing.
Now my question is that if I apply module specific patches on top of this environment, does it apply it correctly or will it ignore applying changes since the underlying module has not been enabled yet.
The patch deployment does go thru successfully.
At this stage I am wondering if I should apply the patches first or enable the necessary modules first.
    Let me know.

  • Questions on Patch Deployment - From older post.

Almost a year ago I had a post with questions on the patch scan process.
    https://forums.novell.com/novell-pro...s-updates.html
I have been reviewing my patch process again due to Student laptop's getting re-imaged this summer. I am hoping I can get some additional information based off the replies from that post.
    1. It was stated that monthly patch bundles were created and deployed. I am unsure how that is best accomplished. If I create an all Microsoft (Windows 7 for example) Patch bundle for each month, yet the workstations it is deployed to may not require the patch, would this not cause the bundle to fail? If it just fails on that section will the remaining patch's continue to deploy?
What is the best way to deploy a monthly patch bundle? In the past I would create a patch bundle through the Patch Management area for Windows 7 but assign to only a single workstation and then go back and assign to the Windows 7 group as a "run on ref" option. Is it better to assign the patch bundle to all nonpatched devices? If this is done will a system that is reimaged and no longer has the patch or a new system created after the bundle create be automatically assigned said bundle?
Any other good strategies for patching systems? I create custom bundles for Adobe, Java, and Quicktime to ensure I control how they are deployed. Java seems to be one that works better when older versions are not installed. This method seems to be working well for those products. It is my MS Windows updates that are way off the mark. I have most of my systems with 60 to 80 patches reported ready. No matter how many times I deploy the patches they never seem to report as patched on the devices (Even tho the bundle reports back as successful). I am getting ready to start an SR since I think this is an issue with the server since so many of my systems are doing this. Good deployment procedures would be nice since I really hate to mess with my Universal WIndows image since it is working so well. Recreating it just to patch it with the latest Windows Updates would be pain.
    Thanks
    Richard

  • Patch deployment on second Primary SCCM 2007 site

    Dears,
I have the following design on my SCCM infrastructure.
1 Primary Site (Parent Site code H01)  - Located at HQ
1 Primary Site (Site code D01) - Located at DR and reporting to HQ primary Parent site
    - clients located in DR location has the agent installed with site code ("D01")
-clients located in HQ has the agent installed with site code "HQ1")
    My questions are:
I have create a deployment management in HQ site and install patches to all clients belong to HQ with site code H01 without any problem.
For clients belong to "D01" I want them to get the patches from D01 primary sccm server located in DR.
Should I create another deployment management in DR sccm server separately or I can use the existing SCCM deployment management created in HQ1?
Any suggestions are much highly appreciated.
    Many thanks guyz..
    MC

Yes, they will appear locked at that site. You can't edit them. If I recall correctly though you can deploy them. I always perform all administration at the top site in the hierarchy though.
Are you truly trying to use a child primary as a in a DR scenario? If so that's not a great idea.

  • Query on Patch Deployment Process in SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi All,
I have a Below SCCM environment in place, I have a very basic question on how Patches are downloaded by Client machines,
    Environment Details:
one SCCM Server in Hongkong DC one DP server in Singapore Datacentre There are 14 Clients in Singapore DC as below,
02 Hyper-V Server Each Hyper-V server has 06 VM's In one of the 06 VM in Hyper-V 02 we installed the DP role. Patch Size : 500MB (We have created as a single software update Group)
Collection: We have created 02 Collections, each one for One Hyper-V and all it’s 06 VM’s
Question: When we are Deploying patches to each collection, how clients will download
    the patches from DP ?
    01.
Will all the clients start downloading the patches immediately or one by one?
    02.
Out of these 500 MB of patches, hope only 100MB of patches will be applicable host client, In this case, the client will download only the required patches or all (I have choosen required
    during deployment)
    03.
If the answer for 01 Question is all will download at the same time means, by any chance can we control the behaviour (One by one without changing the collection)
    Sundar

They download them using BITS from the nearest DP based upon the boundaries within content location boundary groups that you have set up.
    1. For updates within a required deployment that are applicable to a particular system, they will begin downloading them at the "available" time.
    2. Correct. The clients perform a compliance scan before they download any updates and only download those updates that are assigned to them using a required deployment that the compliance scan reveals that they need.
    3. No. There is no control of order; however, clients will use BITS. You can however enable the deadline randomization feature using a client settings package. This will cause each client to randomly delay for up to 2 hours thus spreading out any workloads.
Alternatively, if you need to micro-manage the order that updates are installed, you can setup of a separate series of collections that have maintenance windows set on them and populate the collection appropriately. These maintenance windows will apply to
the systems within these collection for all activity on those systems regardless of the collection that was used to assign the deployment.

  • Patch Deployment Frustrations

I've been trying to turn over Patch Management to a co-worker for a couple of months now, and since training her, PM hasn't been working correctly.
We have systems at various states of patching, and we push patches in different combinations. Sometimes by patch, sometimes all patches for a particular machine, sometimes by a dynamic group. For example we can push 20 patches to a single or multiple machines, and after first making sure that any 1.1, 1.2 dependent patches are removed, the machine will still only apply a handful of patches at a time. The most common error is an 'Unknown' in launching Remediate.exe on the patch being applied otherwise the most common errors are similar to the following:
    BUNDLE.ChildActionError{af47eb020a61353eaee6ec5edd 232c48;MS10-036 Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Of--612618556}
When pushing these bundles to multiple machines, it is possible for one bundle to deploy successfullly on one machine and fail on the next, consistently, which is the frustrating part.
I like the promise of patch management, but with the amount of time and effort that I've put into it, I'm nearly ready to go back to just leaving things up to Windows Updates to make my life easier.

  • Patch Deployment with Grid Control

    Hello *,
i tried to move a patch to a 9i database. My grid-control is installed on a laptop with w2k and is running fine. The patch should be deployed to another laptop with an installed 9.2.0.4 database. The job is starting and creates the new directory and subdirectory on the target host but then the job failed with the following message.
java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host: connect
I found nothing in metalink, so where is the problem?
    Greetz
    Ulli

I think this is a windows related problem. It's not so easy to transfer files to a windows workstation, ftp normally does not work, unless a ftp server is running. The formal explanation of this error says, the target host cannot be reached because of router or firewall problems, but this may be misleading in this case. If you have a support contract (hopefully), you should open a TAR.

  • Patch deployment and installation behavior question

I created a new Software Update Group to deploy a revised KB today that didn't require a reboot.  The deployment was set to be available ASAP and install ASAP.  I set a maintenance window of 1:30PM on the collections that received the deployment.
When I ran a report, to verify the patch status, prior to that start of the maintenance window I saw that the patch had already installed.
Does this behavior change depending on the patch?  I have other collections that I do monthly updating to, this same way, and they don't install patches until the start of the maintenance window I believe.  Should I be using a specific time for
my deadlines, or should I be using ASAP?  I don't want servers sitting in a 1/2 installed but yet to be rebooted state for any period of time.

  • Zenworks patch deployment without Client

OK, so I want to use Zenworks to deploy Windows patches to networked
    scanners
with PC's attached to them. These PC's are not equipped with the company
standard images, therefore do not have Novell Client. I'd like to deploy
patches to these PC's without having to install Novell Client, due to a
management decided security issue. I am stuck as to where to begin. I was
    told
to research the possibility of using an FTP connection in place of Novell
Client and Application Launcher. Preferably I'd like to still use Zen4
Applications to push out patches like I do for the user's workstations,
    but
any and all suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks!

    jma,
    > Applications to push out patches like I do for the user's workstations,
    > but
Just to add to what Timothy said.
You could push the Novell client via a AD login script or batch file. You
can distribute the ZFD Agent this way also.
You do not need the Novell client to use Desktop management to deploy
software and such. This is were the middle tier server will come into
play. With just the zfdagent and the MiddleTier server, you can manage a
    pure MS environment easily.
You will probably want to look at patch management to really manage
patches in a proper way. This again does not require the Novell client,
    but simply a patch agent.
