Patch deployment and installation behavior question

I created a new Software Update Group to deploy a revised KB today that didn't require a reboot.  The deployment was set to be available ASAP and install ASAP.  I set a maintenance window of 1:30PM on the collections that received the deployment.
When I ran a report, to verify the patch status, prior to that start of the maintenance window I saw that the patch had already installed.
Does this behavior change depending on the patch?  I have other collections that I do monthly updating to, this same way, and they don't install patches until the start of the maintenance window I believe.  Should I be using a specific time for
my deadlines, or should I be using ASAP?  I don't want servers sitting in a 1/2 installed but yet to be rebooted state for any period of time.

Hi,
Have you resolved this problem?
If it has been resolved, could you please share your resolution with us?

  • Patch deployment and enabled modules

    Hello
I have a 12.1.3 environment with no modules enabled as part of the base installation.
So what I mean is when I installed 12.1.1 , I did not enable any module components.
My aim is to enable them later based on our current licensing.
Now my question is that if I apply module specific patches on top of this environment, does it apply it correctly or will it ignore applying changes since the underlying module has not been enabled yet.
The patch deployment does go thru successfully.
At this stage I am wondering if I should apply the patches first or enable the necessary modules first.
    Let me know.

  • Deployment and installation

    hi
can any one tell me wat is the diff b/w deployment and instalation. we always deploy j2ee app we dont install them. and we dont deploy .net applications we just run them..???
CAN ANY ONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME EXAMPLE OF USING JAVA MESSAGEING SERVICES IN J2EE i mean in wat conditions its used...
and if any one can then please give me any link about it as well.
    waiting...
    thanks

Something to do with virtual and actual. J2EE apps are deployed because they run in a virtual server and run within a container created by another application (i.e. Application Server like JBOSS, SJAS, Pramati) while installed applications interact with their hosts without the need of a virtual intermediary like you install JBOSS and J2SDK but deploy S2EE apps to run on JBOSS.
    Hope this helps!!!

  • Click Once Application Deployment and Installation

    Hi everyone,
I have created a simple application that drills data from sql Enterprise database and I have also included reports. I'm using visual studio 2013 ultimate on windows 8. My problem is that when I publish the application, it requires report viewer to be
installed on a computer that does not have visual studio installed. I have included the prerequisites including dotnet45, Reportviewer and the two sqlClrTypes_x64 and x86. it becomes even worse when I try to install this application on windows 7. I just cant
fin a way to allow this application install without hustles. Is there a better way to do it? I don't want have my users download prerequisites from the vendors. What am I missing or what should I do to have it installing without visual studio being present
    on a computer?
    Thanks in advance.

  • 11.2.0.3 Patch Bundle and opatch installation approach

    Hi,
I have installed the below 11.2.0.3 (64 bit) products in my windows 2008 server
    1. Oracle Grid Infrastructure for standalone server
    2. Oracle database server software and created a standalone database with ASM in this home.
Now i need to apply Update 5 patch bundle and some bug fix patches.
Since there are 2 home in my server what is the right approach for applying the patch bundle and opatch ?
When i went through the patch bundle installation document i could see these 2 options
    1. Patch Installation Instructions for Single Instance
    2. Patch Installation Instructions for RAC
Since i have 2 homes (OraCrs11g_home1 & OracDb11g_home1 ) in my server i am not sure which patch installation option i should choose and proceed.
    Can someone assist me ?
    Thanks,
    Ashok Kumar.G

no we have to prepare a test POC but we don't have Xterm so had to use silent mode.using VNC server is best option to install or upgrade databases/grid Infrastructure.
VNC server runs on the server and no fear of loosing network connection as in case of connecting thorugh putty.
also you can open GUI in VNC server without need of any xterm or xwindows .
So ask your SA to install VNC on your server and use it.

  • Patching Methodology and Configuration

    SCCM 2012 SP1
We recently implemented monthly patching via SCCM and I’ve been asked to reevaluate the methodology I put into place as well as some configuration items.
My question revolves around methodology and configuration.
Sorry for long documentation but need to get point across and find out best methodologies and the way your organization is using SCCM to patch.
    CURRENT METHODOLOGY
We roll out patches in a 3 wave approach to an organization that has 4 geographic sites.
IT department and testers during the 3 days following Patch Tuesday – configuration of ADR below.
    Sub-Process
Evaluate on Wed of Update patches to include/decline from deployment as not included in software Update classification to prevent unwanted optional updates from being applied
Checklist review after patching by IT Dept. and testers
Deployment to local geographic site which is local to the IT Department on the Tuesday following Patch Tuesday with a 10 day window for install.
Approximately 150 users.  Idea here was users are local to IT and we can respond faster to problems
Deployment to Entire Company on the 2nd day of following month (Approximately 400 Users (remote and local)
    ADR Settings
    Roll-Out 1
    Software Update Tab
    Date: Last month
Product:  Lync, Office, Silverlight, Windows 7, Windows 8, Adobe patches
Update Classification:  Critical Updates OR Security Updates OR Service Packs
    Note: Not including Updates
    Evaluation Schedule
Second Wed of every one month @ 7am
    Deployment Schedule
    Software Available Time:  2 hours
    Installation Deadline:  46 hours
    User Experience
    Software Installation, System Restart Checked
Suppress:  Only Servers checked (for configuration discussion)
    Roll-Out 2
Same Software Update settings and User Experience settings
    Evaluation Schedule
Third Monday of every 1 month
    Deployment Schedule
    Specific Time:  26 Hours
Installation Deadline:  249 Hours (6pm on following Friday)
    Roll-Out 3
Same Software Update settings and User Experience settings
    Evaluation Schedule
Occurs day 1 of every 1 month
    Deployment Schedule
    Specific Time:  26 Hours
Installation Deadline: 129 Hours (6 pm 5 days later)
MANAGEMENT QUESTIONS METHODOLOGY AND SUGGEST ALTERNATIVE
My management feels the above approach is not best practice for Patch Management.
They feel that we need a better approach to the testing phase and then an entire company rollout.
It is felt that the testing group should capture each type of machine type we have as well as User Profile (i.e. Marketing, Engineering, etc…)
My issue is getting users that fit machine type usage and User Profile to participate in the testing procedures.
I estimate we have 20 different machine types.
    Thus under Management approach
Deploy on to test group and allow to test for 2 weeks
    Deploy to entire organizaton
An alternative may be as follows:
ADR to the test group that consists of all machine types and identified user profiles
Deploy on day after Patch Tuesday
Run test period for a period of 8 days to following Friday
ADR to remainder of organization based on no issues in testing
Q:  Are you using ADR – Automatic Deployment Rules or are you reviewing the patch list and then selecting them and creating a new Deployment?
Q:  What are your organizations doing with SCCM and do they follow are current methodology, proposed methodology or something different.
    CONFIGURATION
Our current configuration, as noted, pushes to the patches to the machine and then the user is notified over time to perform the patching or be patched by the mandatory deadline.
It has been asked of me to change this concept to immediately install patches on machine and then allow user to reboot when they want, i.e. no mandatory which causes reboot.
Q:  How would this be configured and are their concerns that a user may wait a couple days after machine has patched to reboot and this causes ancillary issues?
The only way I know possibly how to do this is
Leave System Restart if Necessary uncheck
Check Suppress system restart on workstations
My concern is if I remember correctly is by setting mandatory deadlines it overrides these behaviors and installs and reboots the system?

Suggestion #1: Forget about them (management) dictating "who to target". If you want to be truly random, create a collection where the collection rule is... where smsguid like '%0' . See how many targets you get in that collection. Since the guid
is random, selecting a random sample of machines will also be random. The only thing to be aware of is that random MEANS random. So if that means you end up with the CEO's laptop in the pilot, that's exactly what that means. It could happen. But that's the
    whole point.
Suggestion #2: It has always bugged me that management wants machine patched... but don't force people to reboot.  It can easily happen (quite often) where that means a box is online and not rebooted for months.  For pilot #1, #2, and production--set
the deadline for whatever means "likely to be online... but least likely to impact the end user", and enforce the reboot at deadline.  Set your Client Agent Setting for countdown to a reboot to be reasonable for your environment--if that means
99 minutes, then so be it.  give people 99 minutes and a 15 minute (or 60 minute if you want to be really obnoxious) can't-close-this notification that a reboot is about to happen.  Forget about the 'allow a user to reboot when they want'.
Instead set it so that people get plenty of time to see that they will be rebooted... and they better save whatever it is they are working on prior to the reboot.
No matter what you set, people will complain about it.  The people that want to work up to the last second prior to the reboot will complain about the notification they can't close, and the people that take a 70 minute lunch/coffee/siesta will complain
that the notification is only 60 minutes long and they didn't see it.  Your job (management's job) will be to find the happy medium, or at least communication "this is what this means... basically... just save your work and reboot now, this is for
    your own good."
Edit:  also... remember in CM12 you can set a service window that applies ONLY to patches.  So you could set that (for example) the machines that are always online (VDIs and servers) have their Software Update window on the weekends.  and
laptops don't have a service window for Software updates... because who knows when they might be online; so you don't want to limit them.  etc. etc... whatever makes sense for you computers.
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

  • Patch deployment with status "Enforcement state unknown"

    Hi All
I am pretty new to the patch deployment.

They will only start to install updates automatically when there is an active update deployment with a scheduled deadline that has past. See for a lot more information:

Also, when Days since last communication is more than 0, that's usually an indication that the client is not communicating any more. That can be caused by a lot of things including something simple as that the device is turned of, or not
    connected with the network.

  • Deploy and install MIDlet

    Hi
To clarify – I’m looking into the steps needed in order to install a java application I have created onto a mobile device and then run it as I would any other application on the device. (The mobile device is J2ME enabled).
I’ve read through many of the threads on this subject and have to say that I’m not entirely clear on this. I’ve also read through the article ‘Deploying Wireless Java Applications’ by Qusay H. Mahmoud and it clarified things a little.
The article explains how to install (using a Java Application Loader) an application, that has been previously downloaded and stored to your desktop, onto the mobile device. The article also mentions the OTA (Over The Air) method of installing applications without needing to connect to a desktop, this method uses the Java Application Manager.
So, both methods need an ‘interface’ to facilitate downloading and installation – either JAL or JAM.
Both need to read the jad file before the jar can be installed.
The article was written in 2002 and I’m wondering if the increase in memory capacity in many mobile devices has left it a little out of date.
I have a question that I would appreciate any responses to:
I’m wondering if current mobile devices needs only to download the jar and jad files for an application to be ‘good to go’ i.e. by running a web browser on the mobile device and simply downloading both files in the same manner as you would any other file? The device itself would simply read the jad and install the application automatically.
If my understanding is incorrect please feel free to correct it.
    Thanks in advance

  • Usage dependency is created at Build time and installation time

    Hi,
The infrastructure guys have selected the usage dependency as Build time and Installation time, while creating software components.
"Y" SWC is created as depedency for "X" software component.
In SLD(software catalog),  we are able to view the Y component as dependency in X component(at both build time and installation time).  In usage dependency we are able to view Y component but when we click Y component in usage dependecy we are also able to view X component. Is there any problem with this ?
There is another issue. we are able to view basis object(in IR) in Y component but not in X component.  Actually as per the above configuration basis object in IR should appear in X component.
Please refer to another forum which may give you some more idea.("BPM - Message interfaces of one component are not appearing in another comp") pasted on 17 Nov,2006.
Please could you provide us the inputs.

I've heard there is a deployment tool document ? Where is it ?
    thanks for your help

    Hi--
None of our team has experience running JATO apps in JBuilder. The main
thing to check when running in an IDE is that the web.xml is properly
registered. Because you've received a JATO error, I assume it is in your
case. Therefore, it must be something else.
The error you sent means that the lookup for the LoginViewBean class failed.
This is probably a silly question, but are all of your classes compiled and
under the /WEB-INF/classes directory? Any other reason your application
    classes might not be found?

  • Successful VB2008, CR2008 test deployment, but have 2 questions

    Background -
    Updated CR10 to CR2008 (sp3)
Updated my Windows Client app from VB6 to VB2008
    SDK - Visual Studio 2008
    Current Status -
Successfully deployed VB2008 app with the CR2008 Runtime using "ClickOnce" to a test Windows XP client.
I had some issues with deployment and found this thread to be most helpful
[SAP Note 1353836  - How to add Crystal Reports 2008 Runtime SP1 package as a prerequisite in a Visual Studio .NET setup project?|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_dev/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333333353333333833333336%7D.do]
Step 9 within that thread states for a project prerequisite, "Select Crystal Reports 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5."
Question 1 - My Windows XP test Client had .NET Framework 2.0 so I selected 2.0 in the Project Prerequisite. I haven't had any issues in testing reports.  Any downside to using .NET Framework 2.0?
Question 2 - Within VS2008 when I "build" the project I don't get any errors or warnings.  When I "publish" the project I get "'Crystal Reports 2008' could not find dependent item 'Microsoft.Data.Access.Components.2.8'" warnings.
Looking in the registry is FullInstalVer 2.81.1132.0 and Version 2.0.0.   There seems to be no adverse affects deploying and testing the app. Any advice on how I can correct this to get a clean "publish" without the warnings?

Should not be an issue. CR 2008 ia able to handle framework 2.0 and higher (not 4.0)

Looks like you are missing the 'Microsoft.Data.Access.Components.2.8' runtime which is a dependency. See if the following will help:

  • WSUS Patch Approval and Client Detection

I need to demonstrate patch approval on server and installation on client machine.
After approving the patch on WSUS server, I go to client machine, run wuauclt /detectnow. But the client doesn't find the updates immediately. But the client can detect the approved update after a few hours/days. How can I reduce this delay?

    Hi,
When you run the wuauclt /detectnow task, you need to wait for the completion of the detection event.
Typically this could take a couple of minutes, but on a healthy, fully patched system, it may complete in a matter of seconds.
    Regards.
