EPM Essbase Distributed Install

Hi,
I have installed EPM 11.1.2.1 on Windows 2008 on a distributed environment.
server 1: Foundation + Essbase(only Web services)
Server2: Essbase
The configuration assistant has been Run on both the machines and went through successfully.
I am able to login to Essbase and see all the applications using EAS console installed on server2.
But when I login to Shared Services console on Server1, Under Application Group - EssbaseCluster - 1 is empty.
As I have seen before on a unified deployment, this cluster shows the default Essbase Applications.
But on the above mentioned deployment, this cluster is not showing any default application.
I tried server restarts on the 2 servers on both the orders and no luck.
Has anybody seen this before..? Am I missing any step post Install/Config in this Distributed Setup ?
Any help will highly appreciated.

Hi,
Log on to Shared services console. Select 'EssbaseCluster - 1' under Application Groups and click on Delete (Red cross mark next to New button).
Now run the same externalize command and it will succeed.
How to externalize Essbase:
MAXL> display system security mode;
.....If it is 1 then run the alter command:
MAXL> alter system set sss_mode <ENFORCE-PWD-SPEC>;
Please read http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_tech_ref.pdf page 671 regarding <ENFORCE-PWD-SPEC> option to decide (depending on number of users on the system) what "password option" is best for you.

Could anyone advise if I will have problems doing a SolMan 71 Distributed Install with the Instance on a WIndows 2008 server and SQL 2008R2 on a Windows 2008R2 server.
I see Server 2008R2 ia now supported but see nothing about mixing them on the PAM.

I don't see anyone with this setting. Logically, it should works as homogenous system installation, basically DB host needed access to access /sapmnt on CI host.

Advantages of installing IOP & EPM in distributed environment

Hi,
What are advantages of installing IOP in distributed environment. I refered IOP installation guide and as per instructions, on 1 machine have IOP installation with Foundation service installed while on another machine install Foundation with HSS & other components configured. This is fine but again we need to copy IOP installation directory from IOP machine to EPM machine,in such case what is the advantage of having IOP on different machine.
Also when we update any settings in properties file like site.properties we need to copy this file to IOP installer on EPM machine which is very difficult to maintain from integrity perspective. In other way we end up having IOP installation on EPM machine.
Please let me know what are the advantages of installing IOP in distributed environment & what are the cases in which we should ask customer to go ahead with Distributed installation.

Advantages:
1.     Multiple users can be defined in the single HSS and can be shared by multiple iop instances hosted on same/different machines.
2.     All the IOP instances can run independently on their individual JVM
3.     The centralized EPM server can host services like HSS, OBIEE, Essbase etc.

Unable to find OPMN under the services tab after an essbase re-install

Hi all,
We are getting a new Hyperion(epm 11.1.2.0) system ready for use.I got all foundation services installed and configured successfully.
after installing essbase, I had trouble configuring-so I had to re-install essbase- but after re-installing, I am unable to find OPMN under the services tab. Is there a way to invoke OPMN as a service?
If I try running OPMN.exe, it gives me the error:
ORACLE_HOME is not set
This is what I found in opmn.log:

It seems OPMN is trying to bind to an incorrect IP address.I am not sure where the IP Address references can be changed.

I finally found a reference to an old server under opmn.xml(of all places). Once I resolved this, I was able to start OPMN.
But OPMN still doesn't show up as a service. I found some Oracle notes on how to setup the same. Hopefully, it will help.
If OPMN is not setup as service(started manually), will it still bring Essbase up? Currently it is not bringing up Essbase.
opmnctl status shows that essbase is down.

EPM 11.1 Install Problems - Apps not in SS/Can't Log into Wkspce/Install ?

Was attempting to do an install w/ separate tablespaces in Oracle. Read install doc and saw this note
"To use a different database for each product, perform the “Configure Database” task separately for each product.
In some cases you might want to configure separate databases for products."
Guess I may have read it wrong but basically, tried running config for an entire app one at a time vs. just running the config database and then performing the remainder of the confg tasks for all apps. Validates okay (except Studio -- connection string doesn't seem to be working although looks okay in the .properties file -- but can fix that later), however now I have the following problems:
Planning, Reporting and Analysis apps are not showing up in Shared Services nor are there any roles associated with these apps so I can't provision a user for access.
Can't log into Workspace to see if my apps are are there -- tried using "admin" "password" but get error message "You must supply a valid user name and password to log onto the system". Which makes sense -- there are no roles for these apps and, therefore no users w/ access to these...
So, first question -- When Oracle says to run the Configure Database task separately for each product, does that mean I was supposed to select only this specific task for each product and then run the config for all products w/ the "configure database" deselected?
Next question -- Any way to force the app to register to Shared Services? The apps that are not showing in Shared Services do not have any apparent tasks for doing this and some only have a choice between configure database and deploy application server -- don't really want to chose either of these as would think it would get really, really messy (that is, would it deploy a second app server or update the current one?)
Trying to avoid uninstalling but that may be the only option. However, before I do that wanted to make sure I understood the Oracle note about "Configure Database" (see question above).
Any thoughts welcome.

So, John...
Good info on the the EPM Workspace issue. After installing the R&A Migration package, BI Plus and roles were available in Shared Services and I was able to log into Worksapce with both my previously non-working Admin/password account and a test user account. And, as an added bonus, the previous Oracle connection string error I was having w/ Essbase Studio disappeared!
Unfortunately, Planning and EPMA did not get a boost from that fix so, am currently in the process of uninstalling, which as you noted was not all the clean at all -- actually didn't see any difference after the uninstall from the install, and installing.
Install appears to be laying down the files (manually deleted the Hyperion directory...) okay. Will have to see how it goes from here. Think I will try the route of doing all the configure database tasks for all the apps first (to keep them in separate tablespaces and instances) and then doing the config for all the apps at one time.
BTW... Is there a "published" configuration sequence? I read the "Start here" and Install doc from cover to cover before starting the install and config and did not see any specific notes on the order of configuration... Just curious as I have seen several notes that allude to this being in the install doc. Am I just totally missing something?

and
ORA-01158: Database already mounted
i need to set up a database a 3 different schema
because i am doing a install of Hyperion Share service, Essbase and Planning

EPM V10 issue : Install conflict between PCM 10 & BPC 10

Our team is working on a prototype of EPM 10 solution (BPC 10 & PCM 10). We have met 2 conflicts between BPC 10 and PCM 10 at client side (Excel & Internet Explorer):
1. There are 2 separate EPM Add-in for Microsoft Office (Excel). One for BPC and another for PCM. We should install EPM Add-in PCM at first, otherwise we can't install it after BPC. Obviously EPM Add-in for PCM is a previous version refering to that of BPC.
But after installation of EPM Add-in PCM then BPC, we lost the "Data Manager" tab in Excel ribbon.
2. After installation PCM 10, we canu2019t access BPC via Internet Explorer any more. IE shows u201CAdd-on can not work u2026u201D. But we can open BPC Web client via Chrome. Is there any conflict of the ActiveX between PCM & BPC for IE ?

Maybe I don't understand your description of the problem clearly, but I want to state that there is intended to be only 1 EPM 10.0 add-in for Excel which works with both BPC and PCM.
Also since both the products you mention are in Ramp-Up currently, feel free to reach out to your customers ramp-up coach(es) to assist further.

SAP NW CE 7.2 Distributed Install on Solaris/Oracle Issues

Hi,
has anyone used the current Installation DVD (51038030) to install a distributed CE 7.2 system. SAPInst fails to install the SCS instance and doesn't unpack the kernel etc as part of the process. The CE 7.1 DVD for Solaris/Oracle installs ok after I downloaded the new control xml which was atached to OSS 1249364. I've got a high priority message open with SAP on the problems with the CE 7.2 installation but thought I'd see if anyone else has encountered any issues with the 7.2 Solaris/Oracle installation.

New to ESSBase. Installed successfully. How to configure SQL Source.

Installed the following.
Installer
Foundation Services
Studio
Client
Within the Administartion Services console I am doing the following.
Created and application, db and outline.
Go to Data Prep Editor and try to use a SQL Source.
The SQL Source and Substituion variables options are disabled.
In windows I setup the ODBC sources.
What else needs to be done?

Did you set up the ODBC on the Essbase server and did you set it up as a system dsn? It has to be set up there to work. Also, others might have, but I've never gotten it to work properly unless I used SQL authentication.

EPM essbase.sec file

I am using EPM 11.1.2.2. I wanted to migrate groups, roles and provisions from dev to uat env. Can you please let me know the best possible option. Also can you please let me know what essbase.sec file contains? Can i move essbase.sec from dev to uat.

Distributed Install EP6 SP9 SR1 Windows/Oracle - Problem

Hi,
I am doing a distributed installation of EP6 SP9 WAS640 Java with Oracle DB on Windows over Windows Domain.
EP should be on one host
Oracle on another
The problem is during the EP part of the SAP Inst installation, the installation crashes.
In the logs it says that the Oracle User does not have enough priviledges.
Has anybody else experienced this when making a distributed installation ?
The Oracle SIDADM User is created automatically and is in the correct admin and oraadmin groups.
Any ideas will be very useful.

We tried this simple procedure, we created user <sapsid>adm as domain user, member of domain admin groups With this user j2sdk1.4.2_06 was installed. Oracle 9.2.0.4.0 was installed with this domain user too.
Local security policy was set only for user <SAPSID>adm in categories Act as part of operating systems, Replace process level token, Adjust memory quottas. Only JAVA_HOME was set from environmental variables. The installation procedure was working well and deploy SAP Web AS.
Independently of above described procedure I tried to perform EP6 SR-1 deployment as distributed solution in local mode ( there were only local users on both computers, the identical UID and PASSW for both machines). Success too. After SAP Web AS deployment I deployed SAP EP6 SR-1 and performed all post-installation checks and everything was working fine.
So I guess there is a right assignment which is not described in WebAS 6.40 Java installation guides and which is needed to perform installation in domain mode ( maybe something in Terminal services?local policy? domain policy?). I don't know exactly what.
I reported this situation to OSS and I'll upgrade this topic after I get results back.

Tmp space requirement for essbase 7 install

Is there any minimum requirement for tmp space when we install Essbase. <BR>when I try to install ie run the ./setup.bin (XWindows mode) .The installer does not give an error but waits and when I check the /tmp file it is getting filled up .There is only 60 MB space allocated to /tmp file . Is there any requirement for the /tmp space and if yes how much is minimum needed.<BR><BR>Thank you for your suggestions

As per the installation guide:
Space for EHPI Directory: 15GB   -on the AS host
Free space on database: 50GB (Better to keep 90-100GB free)    -on the DB host
Shadow system instance: approx same size as that of the source release instance directory /usr/sap/<SID>   -on the AS host
The shadow instance is installed as a copy of the original instance, in parallel. The shadow system is used to update the affected software components and to install the additional components, while the original system is still in production operation.

Oralce EPM Fails to install Weblogic on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

I've run the installer on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and it fails to install Weblogic. I don't have MIDDLEWARE_HOME/oracle_common. Config tool log says missing jars. When I go back to install and choose products individually, Weblogic Server is gray. When I click on Weblogic Server, the message at the bottom says can not be installed.
I have checked that I have extracted the following assemblies:
Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installer, Fusion Edition Release 11.1.2.0.0
Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Foundation Services Release 11.1.2.0.0 - Parts 1 - 4
Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Additional Content Release 11.1.2.0.0
I have run this same set of files on another server and Weblogic was installed. Am I missing something?

I am not sure if it is your problem but I don't think R2 is officially supported, I did have problems with it when I first installed 11.1.2 so I installed with R1 SP2.

Hi, thanks for the screenshot!! That is helpful since I now see "Privilege Manager Active X Installer" There are several different companies that have this software. Here is what I read from one site and I'm sure they all work the same way.
The idea is to allow end users to have "certain" approved Installation privileges at the Desktop.
Privilege Manager solves this dilemma by allowing network administrators to attach permission levels to Windows applications and processes.
This tells me that the "Network Administrators" are the ones that attach the permission levels. I am not sure on this, but the fact that you received that Security Warning seems to indicate that this Installing of Flash Player(which is Installing an ActiveX Control) has not been approved. I wouldn't see the need for the warning, otherwise.
I would check with your Systems Administrator and see if this is the case.
Now here is what I want to clear up. Have you placed the most current Flash Player Uninstaller on your Desktop?
Have you downloaded and SAVED the Flash Player Installer on your Desktop?
Have you then Closed all browsers and run the Uninstaller/Installer?
That to me would be the best procedure. You should not receive that warning in my opinion if your Sys. Admin. has approved Adobe Systems Inc and or Adobe Flash Player.
