Equium L100 - Product Recovery Problems

Hi,
Im having some serious problems whilst attempting to perform a product recovery on my Equium L100 notebook.
I have rebooted the notebook using the product recovery disk provided as instructed in the user manual, and following the re-installation of drivers the notebook powered off automatically. I presumed this was part of the recovery procedure, and therefore powered up the notebook, only to find that after the welcome screen, the monitor shows a black screen from which there is no progress.
I have no idea what I can do from this point. I have presumed that all data originally from the notebook has been discarded, yet the notebook will not reboot properly and remains on this black screen. Any help that anyone can provide me to complete the reformat procedure would be hugely appreciated.
Many Thanks,
James

Hallo James
There is no some trick to make it working again. Either it works or not.
Please try to make recovery installation one more time. Before you do this, set BIOS to default settings and start recovery installation.
When installation is finished remove installation disc from optical disc drive and restart your notebook to see if the same will happen again.

  • Product recovery problems on Satellite Pro A200

    Hi
I have a Satellite Pro A200. It is running very slowly and sometimes it freezes up when I log on.
Also the homepage has been hijacked and I have tried several anti spyware programs and they have not worked.
I have the product recovery disc but the problem the DVD rom drive has stopped working.
The light is on but it will not open unless I use the manual release.
I have removed it and checked the connections but it seems o.k.
The DVD/CD rom has disappeared from the device manager and does not show up under hardware.
I have tried system restore but this also will not work.
Is there anyway you can use the product recovery software if you boot from a USB key?
I have tried restarting the computer and choosing boot from CD but it will not give me that option.
I have looked in the bios and the only boot options that it gives are harddrive, CD rom, land and FDD

    > Is there anyway you can use the product recovery software if you boot from a USB key?
No, this Toshiba Recovery disk cannot be copied to USB flash memory stick and used for OS installation. Im afraid this would not work.
But if youve got an Microsoft Windows CD you should be able to create an bootable USB flash memory stick. In internet you will find many useful step by step instructions how to create such bootable USB stick.
But booting from USB flash memory stick should be definitely possible since the BIOS supports following bootable devices:
USB FDD, HDD, ODD, Network(LAN), USB Memory

  • Equium A210-1C4: Winload.exe problem after using product recovery disk

    Hi There
I Could really do with some help here. I have a Toshiba Equium A210-1C4 Laptop. Partitioned drive with Vista home premium service pack 4.0.
Last night I used the product recovery disk supllied with the laptop to try and restore it back to its factory settings.
and the end of the process I'm left with a cmd prompt box with X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe in the blue top bit stating:
Error: imageX could not apply vista F:\05993xsp.swm Index 2 from ODD to C:\!
Press any key to continue. That box dissappears then another one with Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe in the blue top bit stating:
waiting for ODD to become available...
    ODD Drive F: ready.
check for medium in drive F:...
Failed to initialise the raid class.
    No RAID - continue normally...
    X:\windows\system32>
Now whenever the laptop tries to restart it just comes up with the error message:
WINDOWS FAILED TO START. A RECENT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE CHANGE MIGHT BE THE
    CAUSE
    FILE: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WINLOAD.EXE
    STATUS: 0XC000000E
INFO: THE SELECTED ENTRY COULD NOT BE LOADED BECAUSE THE APPLICATION
    IS MISSING OR CORRUPT
Below I then have the option to esc or continue both with the same outcome of system trying to restart.
The recovery disk has no repair option on it.
    please help, I haven't a clue.
    thanks

    Hi
It looks like something went wrong during the Recovery procedure.
Did you try to recover the notebook once again?
If not you should definitely try this!
You are right; the recovery disk hasnt a option for repair because the recovery disk is not the same like a MS Vista disk. The Recovery disk contains the image files (its a package) and the files contains the Vista, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.
Therefore if something went wring during the recovery procedure, you will be not able to repair the OS installation but you have to run it again.

  • Equium L40 - Vista refuses to boot after product recovery installation

    Hi,
I have had to carry out a product recovery uses the supplied restore disk on an Equium L40 (PLS41) laptop. The recovery procedure does its job to the end, reformats and copies all the files then restarts. Now the problem starts....
The pc gets past the BIOS splash screen then it goes completely black with only a flashing underscore cursor in the top corner of the screen. No HDD activity or CD-rom activity.
I have done the recovery about ten times now. All with the same result. I have tried the repair procedure using a Vista boot CD and I have also tried it using another disk that came with the computer, Vista anytime upgrade. There are no faults found, it see's the hard drive and shows that the vista files are on it, also sees the winRE partition.
I have even tired installing fresh from the anytime disk. This also reformats the drive, copies and unpacks all the necessary files, starts to install updates off the disk and then says it needs to reboot. It reboots and goes straight to the black screen with the flashing underscore cursor. This happens whether I press the "hit any key to start from CD-rom" or leave it to boot from the HDD.
I have been trying to fix this for two days now including endless hours of forum searching, my friend, whom the pc belongs to is getting quite irate as am I. I need help. Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Hi
According to your message I believe that the HDD is faulty.
I think there is a faulty master boot record (MBR) on the HDD and therefore the notebook refuses to start.
One question; did you try to set the BIOS to the default settings? If not try this.
If it doesnt help and the notebook will still not boot up then you should ask the ASP for the check.
In my opinion its a HDD issue and possibly the HDD must be replaced!
    Greetings

  • Sun Virtual Box & Toshiba Satellite L10 - product recovery settings problem

    Hi-
I had a problem a while back with my Satellite L10 and was unable to get full recovery settings after installing Sun Virtual Box and ignoring Microsoft warnings.
I suspect this has now cloned my disk. Something is very very wrong. I am using Win 7 beta in the interim but would like my XP back.
My notes to Sun Microsystems are here:
Has anyone had the same experience or what does Toshiba recommend?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi -
Thanks very much for the advice.
It's really strange as the system runs through Win 98 options on booting the product recovery dvd but then gets you to a full & perfect toshiba L10 XP.
I reinstalled XP and went through the process you mentioned above (F8 etc) after installing - at least my safe boot mode options etc. are there.
My guess is that either the disk itself picked up on the cloning or something outside the HDD has been cloned or produced an 'image' of the previous HDD.
If I want to get a new product recovery dvd (as a next step in my investigation) can I download from the net or do I have to order from Toshiba (is this a good course of action?...).
My system can only burn cd's, but I could get someone else to burn a dvd for me if this is possible.
    Thanks....

  • X301 - Problem creating Product Recovery Disc

    Hello,
I recently purchased an X301 laptop and have been trying to create a product recovery disc but to no avail.
Shortly after I begin the process, I get a message saying "Drive is not ready or is busy performing another operation."
Can anyone please suggest what might be the problem?
    The DVD burner is a Mat**bleep**a dvd-ram UJ-844 and I am using a SONY DVD+R DL disc.
    Thanks.

    machdeuce, welcome to the forum,
which OS do you have installed?
I have noticed that, using Vista, that the Vista "autoplay" function interferes with creating recovery discs. It sort of "takes over the drive". When required, insert the blank disc and click on the OK button before the Vista " autoplay has a chance to run. The autoplay dialogue field will come up and show the usual; copy files to disc etc., but you can then just close it without worry as the R&R has already received it's "orders" and will continue without problems.
    Hope this helps

  • T60 problem with product recovery disks

After Installing disk 1 of product recovery I am getting a message asking for "Final C" disk. I do not have this and I can go no farther with the recovery
How can I get past this? What could be causing this?

Maybe you could provide a little more information as to how you are trying to recover your system, are the recovery discs from Lenovo or did you create them yourself?
    Recovery scenario using Lenovo or self created recovery discs;
boot from the Lenovo R&R or 1st disc created, once it has loaded choose to restore system and then restore to factory settings. Make sure you read all messages carefully. If it says remove disc and turn off and then turn on your system, you will need to, after removing the disc, press the power on button untill the system turns off, then turn it on again without inserting any disc.
You may be asked for a supplemental disc. If the discs are self created you do not have this disc and you need to click on "no". If the discs are from Lenovo you may, may not have one, click "yes" or "no" accordingly. Proceed as instructed and your system will be recovered.
Edit; just had another thought, may / may not be relevant in this case - but just in case: If you are starting the system, then pressing the blue ThinkVantage button, and do not have a factory restore option; - if you can still boot into windows you need to run System Update and let it update itself. Then try the ThinkVantage button again at boot, hopefully the factory restore option will be available.
    Hope this helps

  • Equium L100-186 (PSLA5) - Need all XP drivers

    Hi All,
    I really need some help!
I have run the quick format of windows and reinstalled using the standard recovery procedure and I am now searching for the correct drivers. I appreciate that I should have looked for drivers previous to doing the recovery, however ...
I have visited the driver page on Toshiba website and chose the following options ...
    PRODUCT - Notebook...Family - Equium...Product Series - Equium L series...Model - Equium L100 (PSLA5...Operating system - XP
Now on that search as a whole it only brings up 2 drivers ... Bios Update & Wireless Lan Driver
I am looking for a full set of drivers for windows xp. There are loads of vista drivers but am I correct in assuming that these will not support my operating system (WXP)?
I need help guys as I need to get this laptop back up and running for my father I need help with:
    1) A list of all the drivers I need i.e. for sound card, display, touch pad, WLAN and any others I need to get it back to operating level and
    2) The locations for downloading these drivers for WXP.
If anyone can suggest where I can get a drivers and utilities disc from that is another option.
Please help me if you can
    Thank you
    Scott

You are right. I have found only two XP files on the Toshiba European website; BIOS and the XP WLan driver.
I presume more XP drivers are not available (released) for this Equium series.
But wait dude. Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel
The Satellite L100 series is very similar to the Equium L100 series.
Maybe you can use some single XP drivers from this Sat series? Check it out.
    Good luck

  • Replacement Product Recovery CD Needed (A60)!

I am sorry to bother you all but I am in need of assistance. My Product recovery CD for my Toshiba Equium A60 has gone missing and my laptop will not start. Can anyone here point me to a solution as all my e-mails to Toshiba Europe have been undelivered. The problem with my laptop is that the computer crashed while installing a new windows XP patch and some of the start up files got damaged. Now the computer will not start properly and stats that :
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-Rom. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Ok thanks for the feedback so far.
Lets try Jasmin11's idea first. I have a copy of Windows xp(Home edition) I have inserted this cd into the Laptop but i still get this message.
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-Rom. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
When I press any Key the computer restarts and nothing changes. How do I get my computer to install the Windows CD? I have pressed the 'r' key during every part of the start up and all it does is restart my computer. I would like to exaust this option before I have to go and phone Toshiba and wait for a new CD.

  • Product Recovery shuts down unexpectedly on Satellite 1900-303

I have the correct Product Recovery disk and have got the recovery screen by holding down "C". I press 1 and the 1 again to do a full wipe clean. The progress indicator bar then show progress until about the 25% level (takes around 5 mins) then machine shuts down.
Has any one experienced this issue? Greatly appreciate any comments ideas. Many thanks, Brendan.
[Edited by: admin on 22-May-05 20:26]

I found the problem. The shutdown was occurring because during recovery the "system" (System = hard disk/dvd reader?) is under high stress requiring the fan on 100% for cooling. My fan intake on the bottom of the machine looked clogged so I blew it and lots of fine dust came out.
I then retried and it worked. Presumably, the shutdown was because of overheating of the "System" (not exactly sure of which bit - but whatever bit was getting too hot). How about that for a low tech answer?
Sorry it was not more interesting! Brendan.

  • How to use the rescue and recovery, and the product recovery discs ?

    Hi everyone,
I've just recently became a new owner of a T61, and really enjoying it. I haven't had a chance yet to test-drive the lenovo phone support, as I have not yet screwed anything up that bad that required their help. I did try a clean factory reinstall from the service partition and it worked great. I would like to find out, how does one use the rescue and recovery startup disc, and the product recovery discs that I created myself? From my previous experience with Dell and HP, I only had to insert the first one and restart the computer, and the rest followed. But with ThinkPads, if I ever wanted to bring it to a clean factory state using those discs, do I use rescue and recovery first, followed by the product recovery? I'm curious, what is the difference between the two?

    Hi! I'm blake
There is no diff between the two... One is on  the Hard Drive and the other on CD/DVD.
Having the HDD version (pre-installed) is a good for trouble shooting.  It uses a whole diff O/S on a whole diff partition (not C.
So if you are having problems and boot to RnR (via F11), and those problems go away. you know your issue is software related. If you still have the same problems probly Hardware related...  IT IS AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO TAKE WINDOWS OUT OF THE PROBLEM.
Other then that. You can re-image another HDD from disks, you can't do that with the F11 version.
    dose all that make sense?
    Hi blake_ibm,
Thanks. All this makes perfect sense to me, but that's not what I'm asking for. My question is this: if I wanted to bring my notebook to its factory shipped condition using my recovery cd's, how do I do that? Do I insert cd1 first and then restart the notebook, or do I just insert it without restarting it, or perhaps I should use first the rescue and recovery?
You said that there is no difference between the two, but what two are you talking about man? I am not comparing cd recovery to partition recovery. I am talking about rescue and recovery cd, with system recovery cd's. These are the two things that I'm talking about.
I'm really grateful for all replies, but please people, read the question first !!!
I would really appreciate if someone could explain the steps involved in performing a clean factory recovery, using the cd's, and not the recovery partition. I just want to know for the future, in case one day I have to do it. That is all I'm asking.

  • Equium L100-186 Graphic Resolution

This is a new Equium L100-186, that I have installed Win XP Proffesional. I'm steel not shore witch model it is, because at toshiba webpage it gives me two options L10 and L20 series, but the drives for the L10 do not work but the L20 works?!?!
Anyway I got the video drive (ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M) it works, but the maximum screen resolution is (1024x768), there is any drive or any way that I can use a lower resolution eg(1280x1024). I have look all over but this thing steel the same.
I hope there is a solution, because this resolution is annoying me.
    Help!!!

It seems that drivers for your unit are not available at the moment. Maybe it will be available in next weeks. Anyway, when the unit is preinstalled with recovery media (or have factory settings) you can create own Tools & Utilities CD. This CD you can use forr all further installations.
I presume you didnt create it. Am I right?

    Hi,
The recovery DVDs from Lenovo should get you going.
Are you trying to shrink the C: partition from within Windows?  It's probably the page or hibernation file that is the problem.  If you want to keep trying while waiting for the DVDs you could try an off-line partitioning tool.  gParted on a Linux live CD or USB flash drive for instance.
There is some cloning software that can do a shrink during the clone op - Acronis for instance.
