Equium L40 - CDDVD doesn't recognise Audio CDs

Hi,
I recently bought an Equium L40 and it's fine except that the CDDVD drive doesn't seem to recognise Audio CDs. The drive just whirs and grinds for a few seconds, and then stops. DVDs play correctly. The Audio CDs that I've tried play correctly on other machines. I've tried changing the AutoPlay settings to "Ask me every time" but it doesn't seem to help. Has anyone seen this problem before ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards,
Chris

Hello Chris
Have you tested it with different original music CDs (older and newer one)?
Can you see content of these CDs in Windows Media Player?
I tried it on my P200 with two original music CDs and there is no chance to start them from Windows Explorer or to see the content there. Start Windows Media player and I hope it will work.
Please post the result.

  • Equium A60 can not recognise audio CDs

Despite having no problem playing DVDs or CD-ROMs my Equium A60 laptop won't recognise audio CDs. In fact if I look in the D drive folder it doesn't even recognise anything as being there.
Recently I have had problems loading CDs into iTunes etc: the tracks glitch and pop as they load in making it unusable for that but it is only very recently that the machine fails to even see the disc.
Are the two things connected and if so does anyone have any possible solutions?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Do you use original, copy protected CDs? Have you tried with different music CDs, especially older one without copy protection? As you know many new music CDs are not playable in notebooks and usual PC optical disc drives.

  • I just updated iTunes to 10.5.0.142 on Windows 7. Now it doesn't recognize audio CDs

After updating iTunes to 10.5.0.142 this morning, iTunes doesn't recognize audio CDs. I ran the diagnostics for my DVD drive, and it said everything was OK, but the CD name doesn't show in the navigation bar, nor does the list of songs appear. I tried with several different pre-recorded commercial CDs.
Ctrl E DOES eject the CD.
Also Help-->iTunes Help ends up with an eror "Not Found--The requested URL /itunes/win/10.5/ was not found on this server."

I find a way to add music.
    Make sure iTunes is closed.
Go to the song file on your computer. If the file has the little black musical iTunes symbol as its icon, just double click the file. It should open up in iTunes and stay in you library.
If the little black musical iTunes symbol isn't next to the file, right click the file and go to "Open With" and then click on "iTunes". It should open up in iTunes and stay in your library.
Yeaaa its the long way but that's the only way for now, unfortunately.

  • Mac mini doesn't recognise audio CD's when trying to download

I'm trying to download a new audio CD I have bought to my Itunes library through Mac mini-however it doesn't recognise the CD and just spits it out. It has previously imported CD's. I have tried several different CD's to check CD not faulty but no difference-can anyone help?

Your optical drive is probably bad.  You can try restarting the computer, or try blowing out dust or fuzz that may be blocking the laser in the drive, but it isn't at all unusual for optical drives to simply stop working after several years.  You don't say which model Mini you have.  Post this issue with the exact model number on the appropriate Mini forum and people can give advice on options.  if you are technically inclined you may be able to replace the drive yourself, or you may simply decide to purchase an external optical drive (which may be cheaper if the alternativeis taking the computer to an Apple Store, unless still under warranty).

  • Mac doesn't recognise certain CDs

I have recently purchased 3 cds and my mac doesn't seem to recognise them and just spits them out!
Why is this and is there a solution? Other CDs are fine.

I don't think there is anything about them being "new" as such.  It is not like they need to be broken in or anything.
When I see this kind of issue I first wonder if it is a drive going bad.  You'd then expect it to be more consistent with certain types of CD (usually DVDs show issues first, then RW CDs and home-burned).
You could try a drive cleaning disc, just in case it happens to be chance it is happening with these particular discs.  I have also seen people mention gently using compressed air, though I'd be worried about driving dust in deeper.
I guess you could try a SMC reset. Again that doesn't explain why only certain CDs but I have read about it curing some optical drive issues.

  • MacBook Pro not recognising EAC burnt audio cds

Hi, I have been searching all day over forums and google trying to solve this problem but had no luck.
Using the EAC burning guide from the Wiki articles I burnt several audio CDs on my windows vista laptop. Everything seemed to go fine in the burning process. All the CDs work fine with all my cd players as well as my slightly old iMac and other Windows computers. However, when I insert the CDs into my MacBook Pro they are recognised as blank CDs. The strange thing is, is that my MacBook Pro will recognise consumer CDs from the shops without any hassle.
I've tried two different disks (maxwell cd-r and a blank non-branded cd-r) so I think we can eliminate any media problems.
It could be a problem with the burning process but then why would it work on all of those other platforms including another Mac?
I have tried re-installing older versions of iTunes, same result. My MacBook Pro is currently up-to-date too. Also to add that I have made audio CDs on this MacBook Pro using both Toast and WaveBurner that play fine.
Does anyone have any ideas, I think it is likely to be a problem with my MacBook Pro settings but would not know where to start?

  • After BIOS update my Equium L40 doesn't work anymore!

    Hi friends...
    Please, I need a help.
I updated my laptop bios v1.60 to v2.00 and after that it doesn't work anymore.
When I try to power it on nothing happens.
    Maybe I need original BIOS.
Who has some solution? What can I do?
    Could someone help me?
    Thanks!
    My laptop is an Equium L40 series - PSL49E - 156

    Hi
I can say what you have to do now
You have to contact the ASP in your country for a help
Yes, you need the ASP technician.
I assume the ROM module where the BIOS is stored has not been flashed correctly.
I think the ASP will try to flash it again using an special BIOS version
    Good luck

  • ITunes doesn't show or play audio CDs

When i insert an audio Cd in the computer it does not appear in iTunes, the program starts but doens't detect the cd. My connection to internet is filtered, so i can't get access to cddb, i guess that's why. Or could it be aomething else? Is there a workaround to listen to my Audio Cds with iTunes???
Thanx a lot for any help.
    Salu2 de Mexico!!!
Power Mac G5 Dual 2 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.5 GB RAM

simple : you put itunes application in a folder. then you reinstall itunes 4.7 for example. then put 4.7 at the end of itunes application name, same with itunes 5. then drop each of them in the dock. decide where you want to have all the playlists so you don't have to switcha ll the time between them. then when you need to listen to a cd or import mp3, you launch itunes 4.7. then the unknown artist folder in your home folder/music will be placed in a music folder somewhere on your HD. create playlist from this folder.
then you activate itunes 5 for ipod sync or any other purpose. when itunes 6 will be finally updated, you remove itunes 5 and the home/music files of itunes 5, then reinstall the new itunes 6, which will normally take over the playlists of 4.7.
apple makes it not simple but more and more complex so it has the greatness of sophistication and class but the weakness of complexity and bugs ! hope this does not last !
thanks for the beer, send it thru internet !

  • [SOLVED] Arch doesn't recognise software RAID0

Problem solved! See my last reply for the solution.
    Old post follows:
I currently have Windows installed on a 2x500GB RAID0, with 300GB unallocated space for Arch.
However, the Arch Live CD doesn't recognise the RAID0 for whatever reason. Or perhaps I've overlooked where it is on the system?
Arch detects all of my disks and partitions fine, including the two individual 500GB HDDs (/dev/sdc and /dev/sdd) which make up the RAID0.
Here's some information from a few commands I ran and dumped to a file:
    Disk /dev/sdc: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes

If that's the output of lspci , i don't see any hardware raid controller .
You are probably using the raid option of a motherboard's sata controller .
Those controllers typically rely on the cpu for operation, lack a raid bios and need a software driver to access the array.
lilsirecho' post above should help you to get started.

  • CD/DVD drive open on its own - Equium L40

    Hi,
I have a Equium L40-10X laptop bought recently from Pc World. It's been working fine until recently my cd/dvd drive popped open on its own. I closed it and then about 10 minutes later it did it again. This happens every so often. After a bit of research I found out it could have been a spyware issue. Scanned, and removed all traces etc. Problem appeared to be gone, but alas, the drive once again popped open.
Recently the drive is not reading discs as well. It seems to work when it wants for any time between 10 seconds and an hour at a time. The things got a mind of its own....and when it's not working, the button to open the drive doesn??t seem to work. I have to use a paperclip to open the drive.
Either I have a haunted laptop or there's something wrong.
Has anyone had any experience of anything like this before or have any advice on what to do?
    Thanks, Jon.

    Hi mate
I didnt notice something like this before but I presume its a mechanical problem.
Dont think 3rd party software (program, spyware, virus, etc) could cause this issue.
Additionally you have said that the drive is not reading discs as well.
In such case I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country and to ask for the drive check and if necessary for an ODD drive replacement.
If the warranty is valid the replacement should be done for free.
    Best regards

  • Copying Audio CDs in not-iTunes format--how?

My MacPro has two optical drives, and I was trying to copy an audio CD from one drive to the other. (Of note, my Preferences do not specify iTunes as the program with which to open audio CDs.) As soon as I insert an Audio CD, all files on the CD seem to show up as iTunes files. When I drag them over to a blank CD and burn it (using the burn button on the blank CD's folder), they're burned as iTunes files. That's fine for computer-to-computer sharing, but if I want to listen on a car CD player, it wont recognize the files. So, how do I copy the songs in the original format without transforming them in any way? Thanks.

    Hi Joseph,
You can create a playlist in iTunes as previously mentioned and then click the burn button at the bottom right hand side. It doesn't actually matter what format they are in, [from what I can tell/have experienced], as it will burn playlists in the .AIFF format anyway which is playable in the car or home audio system.
I have a mixture of AAC, MPEG & Apple lossless formats and even when mixed in a playlist they burn fine - and the same. Toast is an excellent program and does a great job of burning all-sorts so is recommended :0)
I only posted in case you were going to change the format of all your imported files to .AIFF before burning as it is time and space consuming!
    Hope that helps?
    Regards
    B

  • DVDs and Audio CDs refused in OS 10.5 - fine under Boot Camp Vista...

    Hello.
I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 SR (bought November 07) and now find myself having trouble with the optical drive recognising certain audio cds and dvds.
I thought I'd try seeing if the same thing occurred under Vista (Boot Camp) on the same machine and they mount fine. Which leads me to believe OS 10.5.4 is to blame.
I have repaired permissions and I still have the same problem so could anyone suggest a remedy?
    Many thanks in advance.

It seems to be random now. It'll play fairly new DVDs but I put in the original DVD release of The Matrix and it won't mount.
I really don't want to be sending my only computer away over a crappy optical disc drive. It seems that this is quite common with MacBook Pros by reading some forums.
I think it is the drive after all though.
Anyone else suffering with the same problem?
    Cheers.

  • Vista "still" doesn't recognise sound blaster aud

I know it's been covered to death, but any of the programs suggested will not install because vista doesn't recognise that I have a sound card. Sound blaster audigy 2 + vista home premium. That includes, drivers and audio console. WIll not install because there is no hardware recognition. Anyone solve this problem yet http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/267/aaadj0.jpg
