  • Grey and Blue Screens with Spinning Pinwheel

Mid 2009  Macbook Pro 13 inch  with Mac OSX Snow Leopard installed.  2.26 GHZ  4 GB   160 GB    Version 10.6.3
I got this dead Macbppk Pro from my daughter .  I put in a new battery and re-installed Mac OSX Snow Leopard from the licesned disc she bought so I could get rid of all her files and have free space and to make the Macbook now mine with my passwords etc. I got free support from Apple on how to install the disc and overwrite everything that was on it.
Until now ... I get a Grey Screen with the Spinning Pinwheel for endless time.
So the I tired the   Hold  Alt/ Option +  Command  + holding the P and R buttons while starting it up and got a Blue Screen with the spinning Pinwheel.
Any Help on what to try next ?
I only use it about once a month because I have a desktop.  Does using it only once a month harm anything ?  Should I be doing anything to not have this problem with it ?
Or do I have to re-install the disc again and if so .... what would be the procedure to do so ( I forget )
    Thanks Eric

    Hi Eric,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your MacBook Pro is only starting up to a blue screen with spinning pinwheel, reinstalling OS X may be necessary. I would recommend going through all of these steps first:
Restart the computer in safe mode. If the computer successfully starts up in safe mode, choose Apple menu > Restart to see whether the computer will restart normally.
    Starting up in safe mode
If you see the login window prompting you for a user name and password, but starting up doesn't progress, you may have incompatible login items.
    Eliminating incompatible login items
Repair your startup disk or disk permissions by starting up from your Mac OS X installation disc and using Disk Utility.
    Repairing a disk
Back up your disk and then reinstall Mac OS X by starting up your computer with your Mac OS X installation disc.

  • NB200 - C000021A error and blue screen appears

Hi folks, I am having this following problem with my mothers notebook a Toshiba NB200-10g. Basically it's had a virus or a few viruses the last few days. Downloaded avg and malwarebytes hoping to solve it and it found problems but pop ups were still appearing and viruses being found.
Anyway today it will now upon starting go through to the windows boot up part then as it goes to where the login screen would be the screen flashes blue for the blink of an eye and the error message C000021a comes up about fatal system error and the computer shuts down and restarts x1000
I've read a bit about this problems and seems to be down to the fact winlogon.exe will be missing or corrupted by the virus. I have tried all different modes of starting safe mode, last known config etc. My major issue is I have no usb stick to load anything from and the notebook does not have a CD drive so my options are very limited. Next plan would have to be to take it to the shop tomorrow and get them to run a windows recovery program but the problem is I will end up having to lend her my laptop tonight. Is there anything I can do at all? Tried f2 and f12 to enter bios nothing much I can change. Tried f8 and all the different start up modes no joy. Have I any other options at all?
    Thanks
Just to add, Pressing and holding 0 and then letting go when it switches on is meant to be how to get it to reset although it comes up HDD RECOVERY at the bottom of a blank page for about a second them XP tries to boot up again? Seems a bit strange.

    Hi
Well, it seems you cannot do anything else as to reinstall the OS again.
Maybe the HDD recovery would still be available on the HDD. So try this HDD recovery.
Maybe this Toshiba HOWTo would be helpful:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=58
If the HDD recovery would not be available, then you could try to reinstall the Win XP using an Microsoft disk in connection with USB stick.
Here you can find more details how to create an bootable USB stick.

  • Two PCIe-6537 read error and blue screen of death

    Hi all
I am reading two PCIe-6537 at 20MHz sample rate acquiring all 32 lines each with externally supplied clock and external trigger.
When operating separately, no problem, but when two are read I get
    a) on average of 25% of time error reading the data (time out error but happening before the actually time set by timeout, i.e. immediately after trigger)  and
    b) a blue screen of death after 1h or so of constant operation.
I have a feeling a) and b) are related and LV causes the system crash with so many errors. NI support seems to think otherwise.
I am using Dell Studio XPS 8100 and I have done all the firmware updates for the Chipsets etc. It has
    not changed anything.
Changing single line to whole port reading does not change anything.
Any ideas what to try else?

    Hello Pawel,
I have looked over the service request you mentioned about acquiring 2 PCIe-6537 at 20MHz sampling rate on all 32 lines. In order to narrow down this issue, I think it would be best to try only acquire from both cards without doing any triggerring etc. Also when performing this test, I would only want to acquire from 8 channels on both cards to see if this reproduces it. If this works, we can slowly add more elements to narrow down what the issue is and make us more effective to solve the problem.
I also wanted to ask if you have tried this setup on another machine and if it worked.
Along with this, have you tried to create two Digital Tasks in MAX and try to acquire for the same amount of time to see if the issue reoccurs here? This would tell us if this problem is connected to the driver/computer or LabVIEW.

  • Gray screen after boot and blue screen with stripes

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2011 with Mavericks (came with Snow Leopard).
    History:
One day i was working and things were too slow. I tried to restart but it was taking too long to close all the programs. So I forced shut down by holding the power button. When I turned it on again, my problems begin.
    Problem:
The Apple logo and the spinning wheel appear. After a while, both disappear and it freezes at gray screen. Some solutions I tried make the screen goes blue with black vertical stripes. In both cases, I have to force shut down.
    Solutions I tried:
    - Reset NVRAM
It does reset, but nothing change
    - Log in my Windows partition. I can't log
    - Hold option key and choose recovery. Blue screen
    - Recovery system by restart and press Command-R. Blue Screen.
    - Safe boot by pressing Shift. Blue Screen
    - Verbose by pressing Command-V. Restart and gray screen again.
    - Single-user mode by pressing Command-S
         Tried to reapair hard drive:
              /sbin/fsck –fy
Returns the message "** The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.". I restart and nothing change.
         Tried to change startup permissions:
              mount -uw /
              chown root /
              chmod 1775 /
              exit
         Restart and nothing change.
    - Boot from a bootable USB flash drive
Holding option key, I choose my flash drive with Ubuntu installed. It gives me 3 options: Use Ubuntu without installing, Install Ubuntu, Repair Disk      Errors (something like that). The 3 options go to the blue screen
Flash drive with Mavericks. Blue screen.
-Boot from my Snow Leopard CD. Gray screen, restarting, gray screen.
I don't what else I can do. Is it a hardware problem? At first I thought it was some corrupted file. But is it a GPU or logic board problem? What else can I try?

I found this to work at least to get in and backup some files. It is VERY important to put these commands in EXACTLY as seen here, including spaces.
Boot into Single-User mode (Command-S while booting up)
    Execute the following commands:
    /sbin/fsck -fy /
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    mkdir /Disabled_System_Library_Extensions
    cd /Disabled_System_Library_Extensions
    mv /System/Library/Extensions/ATI* .
    mv /System/Library/Extensions/AMD* .
    touch /System/Library/Extensions
    exit
I guess these two graphics extensions go bad quite often on Macbook Pro 15-inch.  They are part of the logic board. The only problem I had was I still couldn't get into my computer any other way, and the graphics for Safari were messed up.  Firefox was okay.  Good Luck!

I just downloaded and upgraded my iTune to 6.05.20 and having serious problems which I can't even play a song for more than 5 sec. If I click PLAY, my computer will hang and display a quick blue screen(too quick I can't get the exact error)then restarts. I can't find the older version I had anywhere, so any help please.
Im using Creative Audigy2 ZS pro. never had a problem with iTune untill this version.

we can also try using the following technique to slow down that flash of a blue screen, to try to get some more information from it:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • ITunes 9.2 causes fatal error and "blue screen of death"

I installed Itunes 9.2 this morning and whenever I tried accessing this version of Itunes, my system hangs and showed me the infamous “blue screen of death”. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes but nothing seems to work.
Anyone encountering this problem and is there any way to solve this? Thanks!

I was using v9.1.1.12 and could not synch my iphone with outlook although with other versions there was no problem so was keen to install the new version of iTunes yesterday (9.2.0.61). Installation went fine, iTunes opened up perfectly and read my music library and hey presto synched my phone with outlook. I was well pleased. Closed down itunes and went back to working A couple of hours later as my secretary had updated my calendar I plugged in my iphone and itunes started to open then.... disaster. The blue screen appeared.
I restarted again, and again and again and the same thing happens everytime iTunes was opened (independently or when plugging my iphone in). Tried 4 times.
I did a repair using itunes installer. No change stilled blue screened when opened. I then had the bright idea of uninstalling iTunes totally and reinstalling. No change - itunes begins to open then causes blue screen.
The next step I uninstalled itunes. Did a disk defrag and then thought I would reinstall version 9.1.1.12 and install the newer version over the top. But hey you have guessed it, the older version would not open because the library it was using had been created with a newer version i.e. v9.2.0.61 - nice one iTunes!!
So at the moment I have no iTunes at all so am stuffed. So, iTunes solves one problem but creates another. Do they ever check these things???

  • C8180 flashing lights and blue screen with code B0379A21

my printer is a little over 1 yr old and hasn't even done enough ptinting to change the ink cartridges. lately, when off and
no computer on, the lights will all flash and the screen is blue showing B0379A21. you also cannot use the printer shut off button to turn it off and you can't change the screen. the only way to stop it is to turn off the main power. help!

will try the recommended removal of ink cartridges and unpluggig of the usb cord. i am not sure that this will be the fix
because it only does it intermitently and only when the printer is off. also, one of the blogs said something about having
the printer plugged into a surge protector and the tech said that the printer had a built in surge protector and that it should be plugged direct into the wall and that should get rid of the blinking lights and code. do you know if the C8180
also has a built in surge protector and a possible cause of the problems come from the power strio?

  • Blue screen with error code and I have no recovery disks for HP Pavilion dv6-1260se

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-1260se with factory installed operating system of Vista. When booting up the computer, I receive a blue screen with this error message: STOP:  c000021a {Fatal System Error}.

The system has been shut down.
I do not have recovery disks for this computer.  I tried to order them but them seem to not be available.  This is my daughter's computer.  She says she started to have trouble after downloading Frost Wire (music share) and then she removed it.  We tried going back to an earlier time and that didn't help and then the blue screen with error message appeared. What do I do now?

    Hi,
Assuming your in the US, recovery discs are available to order for that model here.  That may be the best option.
You should also be able to do a recovery without the discs as well.  Take a look at this document: Recover Windows Vista Operating System Using HP Recovery, and look for the section Restore the PC to its original condition with the HP Recovery Manager if Windows Vista is not accessible.  This should allow you to recover the PC.

  • Blue screen with the following error SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION (ACPL.sys)

    Hi,
I had a blue screen with SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION (ACPL.sys) error message yesterday.
It happened right after the graphic card update was completed. I have an HP Spectre XT laptop with Windows 8 and Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.
After restart, I noticed that the available free space on my hard disk dropped by 4 GB!
    Can you please assist?
    Thank you.

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
WE NEED AT LEAST TWO DMP FILES TO SPOT TRENDS AND CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.
If you are overclocking stop.  (chances are if you dont know if you are, you are not)a
To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.  We need at least 2 DMP FILES to diagnose and confirm
    The procedure:
    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button. (if available on  your site, MS doesnt have this)
*Please upload them to a file sharing service like Skydrive or"Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
Link for how to  upload below.
    http://www.wikihow.com/Use-SkyDrive
    To ensure minidumps are enabled:
    * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
    * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
    * Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
    * Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
    * Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
    * OK your way out.
    * Reboot if changes have been made.
Please also run MSinfo32 and upload the output as well.
To run MSinfo32 please go to start>run>MSinfo32
Go to "file" "save" and upload the saved file with the DMPS
System specs are extremely useful so please include whatever you know.

It flashes a blue screen with a different B 8 digit number each time. All the buttons on the front flash yellow. I have to unplug it to turn it off.  Occasionally it will say to turn it off and turn it back on, but it rarely solves the problem.  This used to be an infrequent problem, only appering occasionally, now it is all the time and am not able to use my printer at all.

    Reinstall OS X:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
