Error connecting to oracle 11 g

Hi,
I m new to this database .I have one question .
I installed Oracle 11g on my laptop and was using toad as well as sqlplus .
But recently I upgraded my windows to windows 8 pro ,now sqlplus is running finr but toad is not able to connect .It is throwing Ora 12514 error .
Can anyone help me in this regard.
Any answer will be helpful.

Currently no Oracle software is certified/supported with Windows 8 - so you are now using an unsupported OS, which means things related to Oracle may or may not work as advertised.

Hi David,
The driver for 9.2.0 is not yet out. You may want to use the thin driver.
You can also request this driver by filling a support case.

I am testing .NET connectivity to Oracle 11g and I am not successful for a while.
I've tried to connect to database using library included in Oracle 10.2.0.3 Client and as a result I've got "invalid username or password" error. Then I've tried to use ORAC 11.1.0.5.10beta. I successfully connected to the server, but when I try to exec any query my program hangs.
Both of them work correctly with Oracle 9i database.
Also I've tried Microsoft .NET provider and it connects and executes queries fine (though 3 times slower).
How do you think what is reason or how can I find the reason?

When I execute this same exact package as a SQLAgent job 32-bit (type Operating System CmdExec) it runs successfully. When I run the package using the Execute Package Utility, it runs successfully. When I am editting the package in BIDS I can connect to Oracle. For both 64 and 32 bit, I use a dtsconfig file which specifies the Oracle connection string and password.
Someone mentioned on another forum that maybe there is no Oracle ODBC driver for 64-bit Windows. I would assume that the OracleClient 64-bit would include that.
I hope I have included all info needed. Please let me know if you may have a resolution to this problem.

I was trying to transfer data from oracle to sql server 2008 on a daily basis.
I have very hard time connecting to oracle from ssis package on windows server 2008. I am almost dead and cannot find any help. i was able to connect to oracle using import/export 64 bit feature of SQL Server 2008 using Oracle provider for OLEDB. But I am not sure why the same does not work with BIDS?
Here's the environment info:
1. Oracle Client 10g
2. SQL Server 2008
3. Windows Server 2008

'No more data to read from socket' error connecting to Oracle 9i

Hi,
My Java app connecting to Oracle 9i gets an error: No more data to read from socket.
Application host is running oraClient805 and JDK1.3.1_06 SE
Connection string jdbc:oracle:thin:@myhost:1521:mysid worked fine connecting to the Oracle 8 version.
I've checked tnsnames.ora, tried tnsping util to Ora 9i, it's OK. As well I could connect directly through the SQL Worksheet.
Could anyone suggest what could be wrong or different to make a connection from Java app to Oracle 9i ?
I was advised to upgrade the driver, but I am not sure what do I need. I have classes102, classes111, and classes12 in the %ORACLE_HOME%\jdbc\lib\ directory. Do I miss something?

I believe there might be problems using the older drivers with oracle 9. You might search this forum for more info.

on refresh period, default value is 1 minute, force this value at 0 and your connection
is ok.

Error connecting to oracle DB using SAS 8.1

Hi,
I am using SAS 8.1(2005 Q1) and the oracle server is 9.2.0.1. I am trying to run a sample application given in the app server (jdbc-simple) and it's not connecting to the database.
I am using oracle thin driver.
I have created the jdbc connection pool named jdbc-pool too. Is there anything else I shud do? I am able to ping to the database using this connection pool but not able to run the application and getting http status 500 error with the following message:

Other solution:
on refresh period, default value is 1 minute, force this value at 0 and your connection
is ok.

I created the Tx Data Sources with
name = weblogic.jdbc.jts.genPool
jndi = weblogic.jdbc.jts.genPool
poolname = genPool

It looks okay to me. The only thing that jumped out at me is that normally Oracle is on 1521, not the current port you have. Otherwise, I'll drop back 15 and punt on this one.

Error Connecting to Oracle 9i Database

Ok I have a semi large program and a part of it connects to an Oracle 9i databse. I am using Visual Age for Java IDE and I am getting an error of
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-00917: missing comma"
Of course the prog compiles but something is wrong with the my connectivity/

i don't think its your connection. You must be hitting the DB otherwise you would not be getting an ORA error returned wrapped in an SQLException. I think its your pseudo-SQL, it simply says that you are missing a comma in an update string. Realistically, it could be that it is being misled into looking for a comma, probably because you have put a ';' at the end of your update string...

ColdFusion 9 Enterprise - Error Connecting to Oracle

I'm in the process of configuring our production server with ColdFusion 9 Enterprise. The prod build is carried out according to the same build document used to implement our DEV and QA environments which are working correctly.
When setting up the datasources, I get the following:
Connection verification failed for data source: sara_eng

Since our production environment is located within a DMZ and our Oracle db is on the other side of the DMZ I consulted with our firewall group to ensure there was a rule for port 1521 between the app and db servers. There is the approriate rule in place. They sent me some log entries which state that the ColdFusion app server is attempting to send a TCP Reset to the Oracle server which the firewall is blocking.
My current production server is in the same DMZ running ColdFusion MX7 without this issue. Any suggestions?

You can test if server_ip can connect to database or not:
sqlplus scott/tiger@server_ip
if it can not connect to database, check your TNSNAMES.ORA

ERROR CONNECTING NON ORACLE DATABASE

Hello,
I have a SQL Server Database and I need to link this DB to Oracle Discoverer.
I created a Data Source (DSN) linked to my SQL Server DB.
When I start Discoverer Admin, I'm able to connect to SQL Server using user/password@ODBC:MyDSN.
Then Discoverer asks me to create an EUL and it starts automatically creating all EUL views. After all views are created it starts populating those views and when the process is almost completed, I get the error message: "The following error occurred during installation-
Install failed, cause: Invalid column name 'suid'".
I check the file EULINST.LOG and I find this statement:
CREATE VIEW EUL4_ODBC_SCHEMAS AS SELECT name AS 'os_schema_name' FROM sysusers WHERE suid > 1 AND uid <> gid. This is causing the error.
When I go to the table sysusers in SQL Server, the column 'suid' indeed does not exist.
I am using Oracle Discoverer (Version 4.1.37).

Error Connecting to Oracle apps 11i

Hi Friends,
I have installed Apps 11i in my PC.It was working fine so far. But now i am unable to connect to apps. When i enter the user name/password as operaions/welcome in the login screen, it says ' ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows '.
Can U please anyone guid me what i should i do now to correct this probelm.
I understand, when i enter username/password, it is calling javascipt logon_submit() to diaplay the home page but it fails and displaying the above error. I checked the database in fnd_user table there is only one record for the user 'operations'. This is very urgent. So please help me to resolve this.
Note: I am getting this error only after i have started using apps 11i vision user instanceavailable in the internet http://vis11510.solutionbeacon.net/oa_servlets/AppsLogin). I use apps 11i both in my Pc and net.

Can anyone shed any light on this problem I get when trying to connect to Oracle 10 DB. I guess it is some kind of permissions problem but the account I am using can be used with TOAD, Oracle Developer etc and has enough permissions in those tools to look
at users and schemas etc.

First of all i would like to know if this is compatible?
The environement that i have is this
1. JDK 1.3
2. Database 11g is on remote system
3. Oracle client on my local system ( Connecting to the 11g DB through the client works fine)
