Errors connecting to Oracle via perl DBI

Hi List.
I've installed Oracle on my linux box (SuSE 10) and I've installed
DBD::Oracle.
I can run sqlplus as the oracle user however when I try and connect via
DBD::Oracle in a perl script I always get errors as follows:
connect string =
my $dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:Oracle:ORCL", 'oracle', 'oracle' );
error =
DBI connect('ORCL','oracle',...) failed: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD
ERROR: OCIServerAttach) at ora1.pl line 7
Connection Failed...
connect string =
my $dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:Oracle:HOST=linux.site;SID=ORCL;PORT=1522",
'oracle', 'oracle' );
error =
DBI connect('HOST=linux.site;SID=ORCL;PORT=1522','oracle',...) failed:
ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach) at ora1.pl line 7
Connection Failed...
Maybe I have the connect string wrong?
Below is a listing of my code, and my tnsnames.ora:
Thanks in advance for your help.

'TNS: no listener' usually means that your listener hasn't been started. Try a lsnrctl status to find out whether your Listener is actually running.

  • Error connecting to oracle DB using SAS 8.1

    Hi,
    I am using SAS 8.1(2005 Q1) and the oracle server is 9.2.0.1. I am trying to run a sample application given in the app server (jdbc-simple) and it's not connecting to the database.
    I am using oracle thin driver.
    I have created the jdbc connection pool named jdbc-pool too. Is there anything else I shud do? I am able to ping to the database using this connection pool but not able to run the application and getting http status 500 error with the following message:
    java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find resource for bundle java.util.PropertyResourceBundle, key exception

    Hi David,
    The driver for 9.2.0 is not yet out. You may want to use the thin driver.
    You can also request this driver by filling a support case.

  • Error connecting to Oracle 11g Database

    Hi All
    I am testing .NET connectivity to Oracle 11g and I am not successful for a while.
    I've tried to connect to database using library included in Oracle 10.2.0.3 Client and as a result I've got "invalid username or password" error. Then I've tried to use ORAC 11.1.0.5.10beta. I successfully connected to the server, but when I try to exec any query my program hangs.
    Both of them work correctly with Oracle 9i database.
    Also I've tried Microsoft .NET provider and it connects and executes queries fine (though 3 times slower).
    How do you think what is reason or how can I find the reason?

    When I execute this same exact package as a SQLAgent job 32-bit (type Operating System CmdExec) it runs successfully. When I run the package using the Execute Package Utility, it runs successfully. When I am editting the package in BIDS I can connect to Oracle. For both 64 and 32 bit, I use a dtsconfig file which specifies the Oracle connection string and password.
    Someone mentioned on another forum that maybe there is no Oracle ODBC driver for 64-bit Windows. I would assume that the OracleClient 64-bit would include that.
    I hope I have included all info needed. Please let me know if you may have a resolution to this problem.
    Thanks.

    I was trying to transfer data from oracle to sql server 2008 on a daily basis.
    I have very hard time connecting to oracle from ssis package on windows server 2008. I am almost dead and cannot find any help. i was able to connect to oracle using import/export 64 bit feature of SQL Server 2008 using Oracle provider for OLEDB. But I am not sure why the same does not work with BIDS?
    Here's the environment info:
    1. Oracle Client 10g
    2. SQL Server 2008
    3. Windows Server 2008
    Appreciate your help. Please save me.
    Thanks,

  • Connect to Oracle via WAP

    When I connect to Oracle 8.1.7 in ASP I use following:
    <%
    Set conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.connection")
    Conn.Open strOracleCnn
    SQL = "SELECT * FROM MMS.TBruger"
    Set Rs=Conn.Execute(SQL)
    %>
    How to when I connect via WAP ?

    Yes, it works okay in general--I can do a simple select and I get results.  My guess, too, was that it's an ODBC driver issue.
    I was just about to say that I've tried connecting using the Oracle driver with the localhost as the server and one of the tunneled ports as the port--and it hadn't worked.  But I FINALLY figured out that what I thought was the correct SID was NOT the correct SID.  Now that I've got the correct SID, the Oracle driver is working fine this way.
    Thanks a million!

  • 'No more data to read from socket' error connecting to Oracle 9i

    Hi,
    My Java app connecting to Oracle 9i gets an error: No more data to read from socket.
    Application host is running oraClient805 and JDK1.3.1_06 SE
    Connection string jdbc:oracle:thin:@myhost:1521:mysid worked fine connecting to the Oracle 8 version.
    I've checked tnsnames.ora, tried tnsping util to Ora 9i, it's OK. As well I could connect directly through the SQL Worksheet.
    Could anyone suggest what could be wrong or different to make a connection from Java app to Oracle 9i ?
    I was advised to upgrade the driver, but I am not sure what do I need. I have classes102, classes111, and classes12 in the %ORACLE_HOME%\jdbc\lib\ directory. Do I miss something?
    Thanks a lot.
    Tatiana

    I believe there might be problems using the older drivers with oracle 9. You might search this forum for more info.

  • Help connecting to Oracle via ADODB in MS Access 2003

    I'm attempting to use vb within Microsoft Access to return a recordset.
    I can connect, but I when I execute my select statement, I get the following message:
    Run-time error '-2147217865 (80040e37)':
    [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-00942: table or view does not exist.
    I've doublechecked the tablename in the select statement, and it is good. I've run the select statement directly from Access - using a linked table within Oracle, and it runs fine.
    I'm using Oracle Net Manager 10.2.0.0.0, and my ODBC driver is "Oracle in OraClient10g_home1" My OS is XP SP2
    Here is the connection (details obscured) info I'm using: Note. I don't get the error until I open the recordset.
    strConnect = "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};Server=myoradb;Uid=userid;Pwd=pass;"
    sql = "select * from TABLE where SOMETEXTFIELD='sometextvalue'"
    Set conn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    Set rsSizing = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    conn.open strConnect
    rsSizing.open sql, conn, 3, 1
    Any help would be much appreciated,

    At our College, we have a server with Oracle installed and 33 clients connecting to the Oracle database on the server. This semester, for whatever reason, we're having an issue linking from MS Access 2013 (32-bit) to the Oracle database. We create the link and it seems to work fine after entering username and password (we are using the 32 bit ODBC drivers). However, when we connect, the window that shows the available tables to link to shows no tables. Its' completely blank. We can see the tables through the database side, and the drivers *seem* to be ok . . . has anyone seen this before? We're new to Oracle and are not sure what the problem could be. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    I know this probably isn't much help, but many years ago I was faced with an issue that sounded somewhat similar.  User department had an Access application.  The .mdb file was on a file server, so everyone in the department was using the same file .. not indivdual copies that could have diverged.  Desktop PC configuration was tightly controlled by IT, so assumed the same for each.  Even though all seemed to connect to the Oracle db, some saw data and other saw "????".  Connection to the Oracle db was via ODBC.  In the end, the only solution we came up with was to configure some users with the Oracle ODBC driver and others with the MS ODBC for Oracle.

    add a test table. DUAL is perfect for that. Everything else seems

  • Error connecting to oracle 11 g

    Hi,
    I m new to this database .I have one question .
    I installed Oracle 11g on my laptop and was using toad as well as sqlplus .
    But recently I upgraded my windows to windows 8 pro ,now sqlplus is running finr but toad is not able to connect .It is throwing Ora 12514 error .
    Can anyone help me in this regard.
    Any answer will be helpful.

    Currently no Oracle software is certified/supported with Windows 8 - so you are now using an unsupported OS, which means things related to Oracle may or may not work as advertised.

  • Error Connecting to Oracle from J2EE SDK1.4

    I am getting the following error when trying to Ping Oracle from a J2EE 1.4 SDK:
    Operation 'pingConnectionPool' failed in 'resources' Config Mbean. Target exception message: Error getting connection from the EIS
    I have the following connection information
    <jdbc-connection-pool connection-validation-method="auto-commit" datasource-classname="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource" fail-all-connections="false" idle-timeout-in-seconds="300" is-connection-validation-required="false" is-isolation-level-guaranteed="true" max-pool-size="32" max-wait-time-in-millis="60000" name="OraclePool" pool-resize-quantity="2" steady-pool-size="8" transaction-isolation-level="read-uncommitted">

    Can anyone give me any pointers?

    It looks okay to me. The only thing that jumped out at me is that normally Oracle is on 1521, not the current port you have. Otherwise, I'll drop back 15 and punt on this one.

  • Error connecting to DB2 via DRDA gateway for db2

    Linux 2 node RAC system version 10.2.0.4. Installed DRDA for db2 LUW version 11.2 into a new home on the existing RAC nodes. Installed and configured and followed note 945879.1. your listener.ora contains an error in the SID section. you miss a closing bracket for the extproc SID and another SID_DESC for the dg4db2 SID:
    SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    ) #closing bracket is missing
    (SID_DESC = # SID desc is missing
    (SID_NAME=dg4db2)
    (ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/gateway/11_2/)
    (ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/app/oracle/gateway/11_2/dg4db2/driver/lib;/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/lib)
    (PROGRAM=dg4db2)
    After changing the listener.ora, stop and start the listener.

    i don't think its your connection. You must be hitting the DB otherwise you would not be getting an ORA error returned wrapped in an SQLException. I think its your pseudo-SQL, it simply says that you are missing a comma in an update string. Realistically, it could be that it is being misled into looking for a comma, probably because you have put a ';' at the end of your update string...
