Error connection jdbc.thin in JavaApplet
With oci8 driver I connected to my database
but useing jdbc.thin in Applet and in other local program on JAVA - error:
in Applet:
Connecting....
no suitable driver
in local java program:
java.sql.SQLException:The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
What does it mean?
What i must do to connestion?
Are you running the Applet off a Webserver ?.
If yes then have the $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib/classes111.zip file
included in the ARCHIVE list for the applet.
The jdbc driver classes are present in the above zip file.
When you run it locally, the zip file is present in the CLASSPATH, and hence it works.
If you are invoking the applet locally without a webserver, using a appletviewer, then having the classes111.zip file in the CLASSPATH is sufficient.

Thanks in advanceWell there is something wrong with your database URL you are giving to the driver. You should lookup the documentation for the driver and see what format the URL should be in.

How to handle ORA-28001 error with JDBC thin driver ?
Dear reader,
As you all know, ORACLE returns error ORA-28001 upon a connection attempt when the user's password has expired.
Handling the error in OCI is quite simple, thanks to the function OCIPasswordChange(). However, I have not been able to find a JAVA equivalent in the Oracle JDBC library.
I have found a field called oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver.set_new_password_string, and a field oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection.CONNECTION_PROPERTY_SET_NEW_PASSWORD, but I have really no idea on how to use them (if appropriate) so as to allow the user to change his/her password on the fly.
I greatly appreciate having any advice from anyone who happened to be faced with that problem.

I have no problem with my code connecting to an Oracle 8 database, just 9i.
I'm trying to debug in Visual Cafe (JDK 1.1.7) and have both the classes111.zip and the nls_charset11.zip in my CLASSPATH.

You might have to register/login first.
Basically, it's just a case of replacing a class already in your classes111.zip or classes12.zip with the class in the patch.
Took me a while to find this, but it worked first time after patching. Hope this helps. -

I am not able to debug this error and any information to debug this error would be appreciated. I have scanned the metalink short of logging a tar. I am using the oc4j install on the 9ias webserver and not the jdeveloper/oc4j combination. The apps server runs 9ias on hp/ux.

Your database connection URL doesn't look right to me. The default database connection listener port is 1521 (not 9200). You can check this using the "lsnrctl" utility.
To find the "host" and SID parts (of the URL), use the following SQL query:

a jdbc thin connection requires a tcp/ip listenrer to be active
on the "server" machine.
in this case it's also your "client" pc.

thin client session Language is controlled by java Locale.
Based on testing code, ORA- messages are localized after the connection is successfully established. ORA- messages returned in the middle of connecting are in instance language.
So, as far as I can say, you need to catch exceptions from DriverManager.getConnection(url, info); and translate them on your own.
Once the connection is successfully returned, ORA- message language is defined by java Locale.
Tests were performed on Oracle 10gR2 (both thin driver and DB). -

I am trying to open a connection from Java using JDK 1.1.6 and the Oracle JDBC Thin drivers. My Oracle drivers register just fine. However, I get an exception which I catch saying "Security.couldn't connect to HOST with origin from." HOST is my local server name where I'm running Oracle 8.0.4.0.0 and OAS 4.0.8. My connection statement in my .java code is:

I can connect just fine using sqlplus with the scott/tiger@orcl descriptor.

Thank you for pointing out the missing : before the @ symbol. I made that change. Still, I get the same message when the applet loads in my browser page. If I load the applet in appletviewer then I get the error message "checkconnect.networkhost1". -

Net8 introduces the notion of service name and dbname. I think the version of thin JDBC you are using expect a sid name. Do a lsnrctl serv and find out your sid name and pass it to the connect string for JDBC.

The database is created and all the batch file scripts have been successfully deployed. Now working on the application server. The Weblogic server is installed and 11g forms and reports are installed successfully.

we are going have a look at JDBC Thin Connections with SSL and client certificates.
I have two questions:
1. Is it possible to use SSL connections from JDBC Thin Driver and which release of the driver introduced it
2. Is it possible to use client certificates with JDBC Thin Driver and which release of the driver introduced it

Markus ReichertI could not reproduce the error after appending the SSL certificate to the certdb.txt file available under $Jinitiator_Home/lib/security folder.
Steps to add the SSL Certificate:
1. Run the form with the https mode in the IE Browser.
2. Security Alert is raised.
3. Click on the View Certificate button.
4. In the Certificate Window, click on the Details tab.
5. Click on the Copy to File button to copy the certificate.
6. Copy the certificate and append to the certdb.txt file. -
Connecting to OAS using Oracle JDBC Thin
Hi,
When I test connect to OAS residing on another host, using ORACLE JDBC THIN Driver and Named host method, I get the following error message :
"Got back minus one from a read call"
Any clues why such a message would come?

SudhaIf you are using the thin driver, sqlnet.ora does not come into play. None of Oracle networking does. That is one of the great things about using the thin driver, no need to have the client installed.
That error is due to incorrect connection info you are supplying or the machine you are connection from can't ping the machine it is trying to connect to. -

2. the JDBC/OCI driver is a thick driver. It uses the oracle client, and therefore should read the tnsnames.ora
3. You have yet to give us any ORA- errors, which would help immensely in troubleshooting.
