  • JFilchooser error on Webstart application with latest JRE download

    Recently we have observed that with the latest versions of JRE downloads the JFilechooser does not pop up and on some machines and on some machines it throws out a 3184 error message on windows vista machines.
    We are seeing this error occuring only on Vista .Everything works fine on XP though.
    We have a java web start application which runs on the client machine and it has functionalities where it opens the jfilechooser.
    Unfortunately with the latest update of JRE this is giving very big problems for us and im not sure how to fix this problem.
    Can someone help us with this problem and provide a solution.
    My class definition looks like this
    FileAndDirectorySelection extends JPanel implements ActionListener {
    JFileChooser fc;
         fc = new JFileChooser(".");
                   fc.setCurrentDirectory(exportDefaultDirectory);
    Not sure how to fix this problem but any help would be greatly appreciated.

    security: Added certificate in Deployment session certificate store

    Is there something wrong with the "Deployment session certificate store" in the first instance? Treid un/reinstalling the JRE but it didn;t fix things.

    Regenerate what certificate? The applet is unsigned.
    Plus other people with the same IE level and same JRE level do not have this problem, which leads me to think it is something specific to this user, like maybe the deployment session certificate store. Is that a file someplace we can like delete to start clean?

  • Pressing Tab key in IE with latest JRE version

    Hi,
    I have question about typing "TAB" key in Java Applet in internet explorer with JRE 1.05_08 or above.
    When I type any key other than "TAB", the function, processEvent, will be called 3 times to process the events: keyPressed, keyTyped and keyReleased. However, when I type "TAB" key, processEvent is only called once to process the event: keyTyped and the focus goes outside the applet.
    Is there any way that the focus won't get lost when typing the "TAB" key?
    Note that this problem only happens in IE browser with JRE 1.05_08 or above. It works well in Firefox and netscape with any JRE version and works well in IE with JRE 1.05_06 and below.
    The following is my code:
    import java.applet.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class KeyEventDemo extends Applet implements KeyListener, FocusListener {
         public KeyEventDemo() {
              super();
              addKeyListener(this);
              addFocusListener(this);
         public void keyTyped(KeyEvent e) {
              System.out.println("KEY TYPED: e="+e);
         public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) {
              System.out.println("KEY PRESSED: e="+e);
         public void keyReleased(KeyEvent e) {
              System.out.println("KEY RELEASED: e="+e);
         public boolean keyDown(Event e, int key) {
              System.out.println("keyDown: e="+e);
              return false;
         public boolean keyUp(Event e, int key) {
              System.out.println("keyUp: e="+e);
              return false;
         public void processEvent(AWTEvent e) {
              System.out.println("processEvent : e="+e);
         public void focusGained(FocusEvent e){System.out.println("FocusGained");}
         public void focusLost(FocusEvent e){System.out.println("FocusLost");}
         public void paint ( Graphics g ){
              this.setBackground ( Color.blue );
         public boolean isFocusTraversable() {
              return true;
         public boolean getFocusTraversalKeysEnabled() {

  • Applets with multiple JRE

    Hi
    I have two web based applications using applets that are supported on two different JRE versions. The vendors of these applications only support the app on the specific version of JRE.
    How do i make two versions of JRE coexist on the same machine? And more importantly , how do I force an applet to use the right version of JRE when it downloads? I was able to get two JREs to coexist on the same machine. However, the most recent JRE installed is always used irrespective of the application that I connect to.
    Any thoughts
    thanks

    Unfortunately that is the way it works.
    The user (client) can change which version plugin is active in the browser. This can be done by making the appropriate selection in the Java Control Panel. This works for Java versions prior to 1.5.0_06. (This restriction may change in the future.)
    You could also modify the html that calls the applets to specify which Java version to use, if you have access to the html. See the Java Plugin Developers Manual for the information. This is also restricted to versions earlier than 1.5.0_06.

    Your best way to check is to test the applet (as is, without any changes or recompilation) using a browser running a 1.6 JRE.
    Is the applet publicly available? If so, what is the URL? (I have a couple of browsers here, all using 1.6.)

  • How to load an applet with older version of JRE?

    Hi All,
    I'm writing an applet which should read the username from the user's system using System.getProperty("user.name") method. I've JRE 1.4.2 in my browser, and it's throwing a AccessControlException whenever the applet is trying to read the "user.name" system property. So, I want to load this particular applet with an older version of JRE, say JRE 1.3. I've tried various approaches like,
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="LoginApplet.class" archive="login.jar"
         jreversion="1.3"     iepluginurl="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/jinstall-13-win32.cab#Version=1,3,0,0">
    </jsp:plugin>
    and also tried OBJECT tag,
    <OBJECT
    classid="clsid:CAFEEFAC-0013-0000-0000-ABCDEFFEDCBA" codebase="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/jinstall-13-win32.cab#Version=1,3,0,0"
         width="200" height="200" align="baseline" >
    <PARAM NAME="code" VALUE="LoginApplet.class">
    <PARAM NAME="archive" VALUE="login.jar">
    <PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
    <PARAM NAME="scriptable" VALUE="true">
    No Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition v 1.3 support for APPLET!!
    </OBJECT>
    I've not tried the simple APPLET tag because we can't specify a java plugin using the APPLET tag.
    In both the above methods, I'm still getting AccessControlException. In Java console, I'm seeing Java Plugin as 1.4.2.
    Can someone tell me is it possible to read the "user.name" system property from user's machine using Applets? If yes, how?
    Thanks,
    Tarun.

    Applets are prevented from doing certain things - reading data is one - to maximize security. You can either add permissions to the computer that the applet is running on, or you can sign the applet.

    Try Googling "sync without iTunes".
    There are free alternatives and there are not so free alternatives.
    Btw, to check if AVG is causing the problem, you should uninstall AVG and not just "turn it off".
    Also, can you describe how you go about uninstalling a program? For example, how did you "delete" iTunes?

  • Latest JRE update conflicts with Webroot Spysweeper 4.5

    The latest JRE update downloaded to my PC now conflicts with Webroot Spysweeper. The conflict causes long delays in launching Internet Explorer and opening new web sites. The delays go away if the new Java browser add-ons are disabled.
    Does anyone have any insight to this problem?
    How do I formally notify Sun of this new conflict in their product?
    Thanks.
