  • Oracle SQL*PLUS Log-In Problems

    I installed Oracle 9i Standard Edition yesterday and I logged in fine with my sys and system username and password in Oracle SQL*PLUS.
    Today when I type in the same username/password, it doesn't let me access the software and gives me "error 01033: Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress" and shuts down in three tries...
    I am not sure why so...any help?

    Like the error message says, the Oracle initialization is in progress. That means that it can't log you in because it is still busy starting up. If you try to logon three times before it is done starting up, it will exit the logon screen. Try waiting a while, perhaps a few minutes, before you try to logon. The slower your system is, the longer it may take to start up. For example, if you are using Windows on a PC, every time you start your computer, it starts your Oracle database along with everything else that is started automatically and, if you have a lot of stuff that loads on startup, it may take several minutes.

  • Crystal Report 2008 results "Password did not match error" in SQL Server Log

    Hi,
    I am trying to develop some crystal reports using Crystal Report 2008 SP4 to connect to SQL server 2008 through RDO (ODBC). My problem is that anytime Crystal Report is trying to establish a connection with SQL Server, first it tries to connect with the wrong password and results the following error message in SQL Server log:
    Login failed for user 'peyman'. Reason: Password did not match that for the login provided. [CLIENT: 192.168.2.198]
    The login name 'peyman' is the right one as I have quoted the same in setting up ODBC System DSN using "SQL Server Native Client 10". But somehow Crystal Report is taking its chance and trying to connect before prompting me for the password. After this error logged to SQL server side, I can see Crystal Report pops up the prompt to enter DSN password. After supplying password to this prompt, Crystal Report works fine and pulls the data and renders the report without having any more incorrect password error logged to SQL Server.
    The attached file shows the step I am taking to regenerate the issue. I need this to be fixed as anytime uses any of these reports and tries to render it with crystal runtime engine the same error message raises in SQL Server side and logged in the log file.
    Thanks,

    Hi Peyman,
    This is the way it should work, In CR designer when you open the report it does nothing. As soon as you hit the Refresh button then CR tries to use the connection saved with the report. It assumes what is saved with the report is a valid server and connection info. CR simply tries to verify the server is still active.
    If you don't want it to fail in CRD then before opening any report Click the File, Log on Database option and connect. Now when refreshing reports it won't log the failed.
    In the SDK it does the same thing, it assumes the Server info is the same and does try to connect to verify the Server does exist. It only takes a few milli-seconds to do this
    To stop this from happening set the log on info first then it won't log the attempt to connect, it's checking to see if Trusted is allowed.

    Notice it doesn't try to connect first if I set the log on info first using code.
    So nothing we can do to stop SQL server from logging this info. Check with the DBA, possibly they can "filter" out the application attempts to connect or change your work flow in the app.
    If you have a Preview Button to view the report then simply add your Database log on info prompt there if Connectioninfo.Trusted is not true:
    mainSecureDB = rpt.Database.Tables[tableIndex].LogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo.IntegratedSecurity;
    if mainSecureDB = false then prompt the user for log on info and set accordingly, if it is true the it should not fail when it connects.
    This is simply a matter of changing your App work flow...
    Thanks
    Don

  • Strange error in sql*plus in a line with "&"

    Hi friends, this error is very strange:
    Open your SQL*PLUS.
    write this:
    DECLARE
    V_1 VARCHAR2(10);
    V_2 VARCHAR2(10);
    BEGIN
    V_1:=&var1;
    --V_2:=&var2;
    END;
    Why it ask me for a value to var2 ???????????
    Does it ignore the -- at the begining of the line
    (same result with /* */ )
    Thanks,
    Jose.

    It is not an error.
    There are two parsers here doing their thing. The SQL*Plus Parser. The Oracle (SQL and/or PL/SQL) parser.
    SQL*Plus reads a line at a time and processs it. It has no idea whether or a line is actually a comment line for SQL or PL/SQL. It however does see that the line contains a SQL*PLUS substitution variable called &var2. Thus it prompts for a value for this variable (as VERIFY is ON). It substitutes &var2 with the value that the user supplies.
    When the SQL*Plus parser encounters the end-of-block marker (the forward slash in this case), it transmits that block to the Oracle Server for execution. There the Oracle Server runs it through the PL/SQL or SQL parsers (depending on whether the block is SQL or anonymous PL/SQL).
    Nothing strange about it. Nothing wrong with it.

  • SQL Plus Log Infor 8i

    I saw a question posted from someone on June 17 about logging into SQl Plus,, although it was for the 9i version and I wanted to know if it was the same user name,password,host string for Oracle 8i? The default settings you gave to (Bill)?
    Thanks Marianne (newbie)

    Marianne,
    The default username, password and host information has been the same through many, many versions of Oracle. The Oracle9i Release 2 version is slightly different in that you set the passwords for SYS and SYSTEM (no default passwords).

  • SQL Plus Log on Issues

    Not entirely sure if I've posted in the correct area..
    I've recently installed the Oracle 11g. Installation process seemed fine but I'm unable to access any components of the software (eg. SQL Plus)
    When I try to enter my UN and PW, I keep getting the ORA-01017: INVALID USERNAME/PASSWORD: LOGON DENIED.
    If I'm not mistaken, isn't this meant to be the default username and password set during the installation process? (un in this case was orcl, and I set my own password supposedly)
    I've installed it on my home computer so, I'm not aware of any dba or what not ;S
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Please let me know of any more information you require. Thanks!
    On a side note, I also cannot access the SQL Developer- says it cannot find the path to java.exe. I have installed the JDK 7 and written the path down but still does not work. Help with this is also appreciated but, the SQL Plus issue is predominant ;x

    Believe this & EVERY Oracle error code & message.
    BTW - With V11 passwords are CaseSenSitive; "FUBAR" is different from "fubar", etc.
    I am curious regarding to which USERNAME are you trying to login as?

  • Error with Sql*Plus and Spatial

    When i create a new table with a column SDO_GEOMETRY (spatial), i insert a new field.
    When i do a simple select * from this table, i receive this error :
    SP2-0591: Unable to allocate dynamic space needed (37748736 bytes)
    I can't find any information about this error. I thougth it was an error of the configuration on the server, but i've found that SQL*PLUS use lot of virtual space on my PC when i query on 'Spatial table' and don't free this space. After three execution of my query, I receive an error NT 'Not enough virtual space'!
    What do i have to do ?
    Thanks

    Yeah, I am also encountering this problem too! Can anyone help?

  • SQL PLUS log input and output to file

    What is the way to log every activity in sqlplus, input and output to a file (interactively).
    I managed to do it using rlwrap and tee but the only problem is, it is displaying the password and logging it into file as well :D. I can remove it from the logfile but am unable to prevent from showing the password.
    I hope many might have wanted to do this, and some might have been succeeded. Please share your ideas!

  • SQL Plus Log On

    Hi ,
    I have an oracle instance on my laptop . now i log into my laptop as administrator on the laptop's domian . when i log on like this i am able to log into SQL*Plus . but when i log into my laptop on my companies domain and try to start up SQL*PLUS i am unable to do so it says end of file communiction even though the ORacle Server Instance up( i am looking at the instance in the NT Services )
    IS there a settings which has to be set so that i can log on to SQL*Plus when logging to my laptop on my company domian
    Thanks
    Ravinder

    You may want to check to see if the LISTENER is running. Often the administrator of a box can login without the listener running, but anyone else cannot.

  • Repeated Errors in SQL Server log file

    I have hundreds of these errors saying 'Login failed for user 'Reporting' The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection [CLIENT: ip address]
    The ip address is that of the server that sql server is installed on.
    Looking in my log file, all looks good until I get to Service Broker manager has started, then I get Error: 18452, Severity: 14 State: 1 then these two lines repeat about every minute, for the last 3 days!
    I think I must have just missed a tick box somewhere, but where?
    I have been into one of the databases, and input  and checked data, both via an application I wrote and SQL Server Management Studio.
    I am also having trouble connecting using my application to connect to the database, I can only connect if I use a Windows administrator account (this SQL Server 2005 running on a Windows 2003 Server, with the app on PC running Windows 2000)

    Hello Graham,
    did you find any solutions for that problem? I'm discovering a similar problem. The state of my error message is 5. According to the following source http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/02/21/536201.aspx this means the user is not known. This is correct. Neither the SQL-Server nor the Windows system has such a userid.
    The faulty user name is 'Reporting'. What is that user used for? I have set up other SQL Server 2005 servers but was never asked for such a name.
    Greetings,
    Frank

  • XML Parser Error in SQL*Plus

    I'm getting this error when I try to run the DOMSample:
    SQL> exec domsample('d:\utlfiledir', 'family.xml', 'errs.out' )
    BEGIN domsample('d:\utlfiledir', 'family.xml', 'errs.out' ); END;
    ERROR at line 1:

    ORA-06512: at "SCOTT.DOMSAMPLE", line 72
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    I get the same thing with the xslsample. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Ok. I've narrowed this down some. The package XMLPARSERCOVER is invalid. I recompile it, and XMLPARSER is invalidated, I rocompile that, my dom and xsl sample procedures are invalidated. Allrighty, I recompile them. Using a select from user objects, I know that now everything is valid. I run my sample and it errors out with the first message again. Guess what, XMLPARSERCOVER is now invalid. Any ideas about this?
    Thanks,

  • Foreign key errors in sql plus

    Hello, im pretty new to sql and i am stuck on a project in my database management class and i was wondering if anyone can help us out. I don't know if it would be easier to send what i've done or just post the error so if anyone could help it will be appreciated.
    This is one part of the sql
    CREATE TABLE PREREQUISITE_T
         (COURSECODE                VARCHAR2(10)NOT NULL,
         PREREQUISITECODE          VARCHAR2(20),
    PRIMARY KEY (COURSECODE),
    PRIMARY KEY (PREREQUISITECODE),
    FOREIGN KEY (COURSECODE) REFERENCES COURSE_T(COURSECODE),
    FOREIGN KEY (PREREQUISITECODE));
    INSERT INTO PREREQUISITE_T VALUES ('23131', '3213');
    INSERT INTO PREREQUISITE_T VALUES ('23541', '4213');
    INSERT INTO PREREQUISITE_T VALUES ('23251', '3413');

    INSERT INTO PREREQUISITE_T VALUES ('65461', '3913');
    INSERT INTO PREREQUISITE_T VALUES ('45351', '5413');
    the error i get is
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-02298: cannot validate (STUDENT.SYS_C003016) - parent keys not found
    It works fine without the primary keys but when i put in foreign keys it is all messed up. If there a a tutorial or anyone could take a look at the rest of the code i can send it out. Any help is appreciated.

    probably u had given the column value not exists in the reference table.
    see the example
    create table tst(x number ,y number);

    Oracle SQL*PLUS has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    Please can anybody help for me.
    with regards,
    srinivas.

    When working with mixed environments you should make sure the path environment variable is consistent with the executables you are currently running, and try not to mix them, i.e. if you are working with the sqlplus from 9i, make sure you execute the sqlplus.exe file from the 9i oracle home and temporarily by means of a batch file put your Oracle Home 9i executables prior to those of 10g , and the other way around, when executing from the 10g make sure all executables and paths are consistent. It should be easier since when installing oracle, oracle configures the PATH environment variable so it can be seen first in the path environment variable.
    In your case you are using two compatible versions, but if the dll's get mixed there could be unexpected results.
