Strange error in sql*plus in a line with "&"
Hi friends, this error is very strange:
Open your SQL*PLUS.
write this:
DECLARE
V_1 VARCHAR2(10);
V_2 VARCHAR2(10);
BEGIN
V_1:=&var1;
--V_2:=&var2;
END;
Why it ask me for a value to var2 ???????????
Does it ignore the -- at the begining of the line
(same result with /* */ )
Thanks,
Jose.
It is not an error.
There are two parsers here doing their thing. The SQL*Plus Parser. The Oracle (SQL and/or PL/SQL) parser.
SQL*Plus reads a line at a time and processs it. It has no idea whether or a line is actually a comment line for SQL or PL/SQL. It however does see that the line contains a SQL*PLUS substitution variable called &var2. Thus it prompts for a value for this variable (as VERIFY is ON). It substitutes &var2 with the value that the user supplies.
When the SQL*Plus parser encounters the end-of-block marker (the forward slash in this case), it transmits that block to the Oracle Server for execution. There the Oracle Server runs it through the PL/SQL or SQL parsers (depending on whether the block is SQL or anonymous PL/SQL).
Nothing strange about it. Nothing wrong with it.

Input with sql*plus and Output it with PL/SQL
Hi everyone,
I try to understand how can I get input and input by using sqlplus and plsql together. I get output like this:
Get User Input
Given Name: Iron
Family Name: Man
old 6: Given_Name := '&GivenName';
new 6: Given_Name := 'Iron';
old 7: Family_Name := '&FamilyName';
new 7: Family_Name := 'Man';
Given Name: Iron
Family Name: Man
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.My Codes:
PROMPT Get User Input
ACCEPT GivenName PROMPT "Given Name: "
ACCEPT FamilyName PROMPT "Family Name: "
DECLARE
Family_Name Varchar(15);
Given_Name Varchar(15);
BEGIN
Given_Name := '&GivenName';
Family_Name := '&FamilyName';
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Given Name: ' || Given_Name);
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Family Name: ' || Family_Name);
END;
/My question is why I get
old 6: Given_Name := '&GivenName';
new 6: Given_Name := 'Iron';
old 7: Family_Name := '&FamilyName';
new 7: Family_Name := 'Man';this bit?Is there something wrong in my code? Thanks.Hi,
From SQL*Plus reference:
After you enter a value at the prompt, SQL*Plus lists the line containing the substitution variable twice: once before substituting the value you enter and once after substitution. You can suppress this listing by setting the SET command variable VERIFY to OFF.
So. you can remove current output with
SET VERIFY OFF
and enable your PL/SQL output by
SET SERVEROUTPUT ON

Strange error in SQL 2014 - is it a bug?
Hi everybody,
I was writing a query to help in a recent thread and then got a very strange error:
declare @dt date = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP;
select convert(varchar(10), 103, @dt);
Run this code in SQL 2014 and see if it works for you or not. In BOL I didn't find anything indicating that CONVERT is not going to work with DATE type. Can you point me to BOL explaining the problem or confirm it's a bug?
UPDATE. Same error in SQL 2012. Does it mean I can not use CONVERT function with DATE type or some styles are not available? If yes, which codes I can use and which I can not?
UPDATE 2. I tried a few different styles and I got the same error message every time. That's new to me, looks like DATE type is not supported by CONVERT function at all?

XML Parser Error in SQL*Plus
I'm getting this error when I try to run the DOMSample:
SQL> exec domsample('d:\utlfiledir', 'family.xml', 'errs.out' )
BEGIN domsample('d:\utlfiledir', 'family.xml', 'errs.out' ); END;

ORA-06512: at "SCOTT.DOMSAMPLE", line 72
ORA-06512: at line 1
I get the same thing with the xslsample. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Lewis
nullOk. I've narrowed this down some. The package XMLPARSERCOVER is invalid. I recompile it, and XMLPARSER is invalidated, I rocompile that, my dom and xsl sample procedures are invalidated. Allrighty, I recompile them. Using a select from user objects, I know that now everything is valid. I run my sample and it errors out with the first message again. Guess what, XMLPARSERCOVER is now invalid. Any ideas about this?
Thanks,
Lewis

Foreign key errors in sql plus
Hello, im pretty new to sql and i am stuck on a project in my database management class and i was wondering if anyone can help us out. I don't know if it would be easier to send what i've done or just post the error so if anyone could help it will be appreciated.
This is one part of the sql
CREATE TABLE PREREQUISITE_T
(COURSECODE VARCHAR2(10)NOT NULL,
PREREQUISITECODE VARCHAR2(20),
PRIMARY KEY (COURSECODE),
PRIMARY KEY (PREREQUISITECODE),
FOREIGN KEY (COURSECODE) REFERENCES COURSE_T(COURSECODE),
FOREIGN KEY (PREREQUISITECODE));
INSERT INTO PREREQUISITE_T VALUES ('23131', '3213');
INSERT INTO PREREQUISITE_T VALUES ('23541', '4213');
INSERT INTO PREREQUISITE_T VALUES ('23251', '3413');

the error i get is

It works fine without the primary keys but when i put in foreign keys it is all messed up. If there a a tutorial or anyone could take a look at the rest of the code i can send it out. Any help is appreciated.probably u had given the column value not exists in the reference table.
see the example

My system passed every element of the: "System Configuration Checker" but the installation process encountered an error when it got to the: "C:\windows\installer\cc8246.msi" file. The Microsoft Help service didn't have any information
on the error code. I did some checking and the file (cc8246.msi) isn't on my computer. I did search the ZIP and CAB files, too. I did a search on Microsoft.com, MSDN, Microsoft downloads, BING, and Google. None of the searches turned
up anything. I even tried looking for "cc8246.ms_" and "cc8246" on each search site. I wasn't able to find anything on this file.
I looked in my nightly system backup files, too. It wasn't in my "U:\Nightly Backup\windows\installer\" folder and a search of the backup drive revealed nothing, too. (I keep copies of deleted and updated files for 60 days.)
Apparently, I need this file to install this version of SQL Server. Does anyone have any information on this file or where I can get a copy of it?
ValiantSonBelow should help in identifying the missing cc8246.msi file from windows installer folder. You need to identify which component this
belongs and copy that from the SQL Server setup and rename it to this file.

ZEN V Plus: Record in-line with poor quali
Am I alone with my problem? In my experience there is a poor quality using the in-line opportunity for recording. My issue is recording with mic and preamp. My old mp3-player had this function and worked without any unwanted noise. The ZEN V plus adds a scratch noise. Is there a way to avoid it's Thanks

Hi,
While executing a report in BEx am faced with the error above. It ocurs when i take a drill down on Purchase order number field ( free charact). I tried by inserting this info-object into rows but still teh same error occurs and the connection with teh server is snapped.
The said field is also an user input field and the variable does not seem to the working as data other than the input values is fetched. There is a dump in ST22 with teh following error analysis-
You wanted to add an entry to table

with a UNIQUE KEY. However, there was already an entry with the
same key.
This may have been in an INSERT or MOVE statement, or within a
SELECT ... INTO statement.

"ORA-1722 Invalid number" error while runing a SQL script in SQL*Plus
Hello,
I created a SQL script that is intended to populate tables with
baseline data. When I run the script in the SQL*Plus program
that comes with the Oracle 8.1.6 (client), I receive an "ORA-
1722 Invalid number".
The error always occurs when SQL*Plus tries to execute the
following SQL statement:
insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
('cm',modules_seq.currval,1046682,'y');
The datatypes for the columns on the components table are as
follows:
db_ind varchar2(2);
module_id number;
ext_compid number;
active varchar2(1);
It seems that for some reason Oracle is having trouble
recognizing 1046682 as a number.
I also tried the following INSERT statements to see if that
would work:
insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
('cm',modules_seq.currval,to_number('1046682'),'y');
insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
('cm',modules_seq.currval,'1046682','y');
but I still receive the same error message
Is there some NLS setting(s) I need to modify so that Oracle
does not give me this error? Does anyone know the answer to
this problem?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Oscar
(NOTE: I also receive this same error when trying run the
script in SQL Navigator and Toad programs)Please see the following docs.

Oracle SQL*PLUS has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
I have installed oracle10g release2(10.2.0.1.0) in my system
my porblem when i am trying to issue command

Oracle SQL*PLUS has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Please can anybody help for me.
with regards,
srinivas.When working with mixed environments you should make sure the path environment variable is consistent with the executables you are currently running, and try not to mix them, i.e. if you are working with the sqlplus from 9i, make sure you execute the sqlplus.exe file from the 9i oracle home and temporarily by means of a batch file put your Oracle Home 9i executables prior to those of 10g , and the other way around, when executing from the 10g make sure all executables and paths are consistent. It should be easier since when installing oracle, oracle configures the PATH environment variable so it can be seen first in the path environment variable.
In your case you are using two compatible versions, but if the dll's get mixed there could be unexpected results.
