Error with integrated authentication (sql server)
Hi,
I need to connect Lumira 1.23 with sql server instances (of sql 2008 and 2012). In this case I need to use windows users and it seems there is a problem with the integrated authentication.
In some blogs and articles I have seen that the sqljdbc_auth.dll file has to be copied in one or more folder but I haven't clear this point.
Can anybody help to fix the problem?
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
I am very new to SQL Server and I am trying to access sql server from my .net web application. The environment is Windows 8 and SQL Server 2012
I have tried some of the blog solutions but could not open SQL Server Configuration tool in windows 8.
Hi Sraven,
According to your description, SQL Server Configuration Manager is a snap-in for the Microsoft Management Console program and not a stand-alone program, SQL Server Configuration Manager not does not appear as an application when running Windows
8. To open SQL Server Configuration Manager, in the Search charm, under
Apps, type SQLServerManager11.msc (for SQL Server 2012) or
SQLServerManager10.msc for (SQL Server 2008), and then press Enter.
In addition, there is a similar issue about connect .NET4.0 C# application to SQL Server 2012 database, you can review the following article.
http://visualstudiomagazine.com/articles/2013/11/01/hooking-aspnet-apps-into-sql-server-2012.aspx

Error while connecting to SQL Server 2000 using Heteregenous Services 11g
Hope this is the right thread to post on! We have been given the challenge of connecting to and reading data from a SQL Server 2000 database.
Our Infrastructure guys have set up the network access.
The SQL Server DB is set to windows NT Authentication only (N.B. NOT Mixed Mode) as there is an application running against the DB locally that will not run under Mixed Mode.
Our Oracle partner has download and installed the 11g Heteregenous Services. all works fine until the point we try to create the DBLink and then connect to the SQL Server DB when we get:
SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK infoteam1.sco.infoteam.co.uk CONNECT TO "sco.infoteam.co.uk/infoteam" IDENTIFIED BY "########" USING 'dg4msql';
Database link created.
SQL> select * from "systables"@infoteam1.sco.infoteam.co.uk;
select * from "systables"@infoteam1.sco.infoteam.co.uk
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:

connection.[Oracle][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid connection string attribute
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from INFOTEAM1.SCO.INFOTEAM.CO.UK
The question is can we (and if so how)?) connect to the SQL Server using an NT Windows Authorised account?
JeremyHi,
Please look at MOS note

I've recall that I've tried to help people with this error before, but I'm sure they were able to sort it out.
Anyway, this blog post,
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/10/09/sql-2008-service-fails-to-come-online-with-a-valid-certificate-could-not-be-found-and-it-is-not-possible-to-create-a-self-signed-certificate.aspx
suggests the issue is a corrupted user profile, and you should try to use a different service account.
This blog also seems to have a simple solution, but I cannot vouch for that it will work:

"[DBNETLIB] Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection"
After patches applied on patch Tuesday the database reports the above error.
All accounts are domain accounts and SQLServer uses Windows auth.
DCDIAG show no errors
All servers and DC have been restarted,
Message in db log confirms the connection is being denied due to trust.
Event log shows same rejection
Protocols enabled: named pipes, tcpip, memory
TESTS:
PortQry: "
TCP port 1433 (ms-sql-s service): LISTENING"
Connect with domain admin accounts works from multiple clients systems to DB.
Cannot connect with newly created domain admin account
Can connect if new admin account connect to server in terminal server session and uses UDL wizard or any other tool including isql.
New standard user also fails to connect.
NOTES:
I removed the SSL patch and the IE security update to see if that was an issue.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯Has someone left the company or has an account of some nature been dropped/replaced?
Please click "Mark As Answer" if my post helped. Tony C.
Hi Tony,
Srry but No. We just installed the monthly updates.
I went back and found I had missed removing a patch. I missed the rollup for Windows Server 2003:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: NtServicePack
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4382
Date: 3/12/2015
Time: 12:26:04 PM
User: NETTEST\admin
Computer: DATA1
Description:
Windows Server 2003 KB954920 was removed from your computer, and the previous Windows Server 2003 configuration was restored.
After I removed that is still didn't work but after about five minutes it started working.
I guess I ned to report that to MS after I research what might be changed to make the patch work.
Every time I get stuck and ask for help it seems to be just before I stumble on the solution.
Thanks for replying.
Well - maybe this will help someone else.
Thanks again for replying Tony

Hi,
I am getting the above error when trying to connect to a database located on remote database. if the database is on same system no problem.
any clue???????pls help me.The full error msg is as follows and the back ground of the problem is decribed below...pls help me out.
I have written some perl programs to be called by java to execute some database related tasks. My database located at a remote win2K server and database is MSSql and my programs are executing on WIN2k server. The problem is with perl talking to remote database...the following error is displaying...
"ODBC Error= [17] [] "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SQL Server does not exist or access denied." -
I have the below network setup:-
1. Its a simple network at my father's office at a small town called Ichalkaranji (District - Kolhapur, Maharashtra).
2. We are using private network range 192.168.1.xxx with two Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with SP2 licensed copies and 15 local Windows 7 clients who are only using Server A.
3. The network is having a TP-Link Braodband Router Connected to internet with the IP 192.168.1.1.
4. Both there Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with SP2 are running separate SQL Server 2005 Express with Advanced Services, you can treat them as Server A (Problematic Server with IP of 192.168.1.2)
and Server B (this is not having any issue with IP of 192.168.1.3).
5. Server A is also being used by 6 Remote users from our Kolkata office using DDNS facility through the NO IP client software which installed separately on both the servers. Kolkata remote users
do not use OR access the Server B.
6. Server B is being used by only 2 Remote users from our Erode office (Under Salem District, Tamilnadu) using DDNS facility through the NO IP client software which installed separately on both
the servers. Erode remote users do not use OR access the Server A.
7. The front end application which running separately on both the servers have been developed in VB by a local vendor at Ichalkaranji (District - Kolhapur, Maharashtra).
8. Both Servers are having the same database structure in terms of design and tables format. Only difference is that both the servers are being used separately.
9. This error OR problem is only related to Server A, where on the clients we get the message "error [hyt00] [microsoft][odbc sql server driver] query timeout expired" every now and then.
10. We have to frequently reboot the server whenever we get this message on the client machines. May be after rebooting every thing works perfectly for 2 hours / 5 Hours / may be one full day but
the the error will come back for sure.
11. Current Database back up size on Server A is around 35 GB and take around 1 hour 15 minutes daily to take the back up.
12. Current Database back up size on Server B is around 3 GB and take around 5 to 10 minutes daily to take the back up.
13. One thing I have noticed is that when ever we reboot Server A, for some time sqlsrvr.exe file will show memory usage of 200 to 300 MBs but it will start using slowly, what i understand is that
this is the way SQL Server works.
14. Both the Servers are also running Quick heal Antivirus Server Edition separate licensed copies also.
15. Server B is also running Tally ERP 9 Licenses copy which is being used locally by 15 users of Ichalkaranji (District - Kolhapur, Maharashtra) same users
Can any one help to resolve this issue. Any help will be highly appreciated. The error message "query timeout expired" occurs, because by default many APIs, including ODBC only waits for 30 seconds for SQL Server to send any output. If no data has been seen for this period of time, they tell SQL Server to cancel execution
and return this error to the caller.
This timeout could be seen as a token that the query is taking too long time to execute and this needs to be fixed. But it can also be a pain in the rear parts, if you are content with a report taking five minutes, because you only run it once a day.
The simplest way to get rid of the error is to set the timeout to zero, which means "wait forever". This is something your vendor would have to do. This may, however, not resolve the problem, as the users may just find that the application is hanging.
To wit, there are two reasons why the query takes more than 30 seconds to complete. One is that there is simply that much work to do. This can be reduced by adding indexes or by doing other tuning, if the execution time is not acceptable. The other possibility
is blocking. That is, there is a process blocking this query from completing. This is much more likely to require attention.
It is not clear to me, whether the vendor has developed the database part as well. In this case, you should probably call the vendor's support desk to have them to sort this out.
Finally, I am little puzzled. You say that you are using Express Edition, but one of the databases is 35 GB in size. 35 GB is far above the limit for Express Edition.

How to establish a trusted connection with JDBC for SQL SERVER 2000
Hi!I am using jdk 1.4 and eclipse 3.3.
I create a servlet in eclipse with in-build tomcat.
When I run it ,it was working perfectlly has it was suppose to work.
In this servlet I connect to a sql 2000 database using jdbc-odbc bridge driver.
But when I tried to deploy the servlet on tomcat 5.5 manully on the same machine ,it gave me error saying
[Microsoft][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Login failed
for user 'sa'
I searched around some post and found that ok ,I need trusted connection
But I have 2 Questions
1). Why was in eclipse I was able to connect to the SQL server and why not in the servlet which I deployed manully on tomcat.
2). How do I create a trusted connection with JDBC for SQL server 2000
Thnaks for your help in advance.Hi! duffymo ,QussayNajjar ,dvohra09 .
Thank for help.
The ideas are really great.
I am trying generate reports for my company.
When I used eclipse the code worked perfectly.
below is code which I used
out.println("Calling For Class Name<br>");
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
out.println("Calling For Class Name success Now calling database <br>");
1). jdbcConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:SQLJasper");
2). jdbcConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Driver={SQL Server};Server=ServerName;Database=tempdb");
3). jdbcConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Driver={SQL Server};Server=ServerName;Database=tempdb","UID=UserName","Password=Password");
out.println("connecting to database success<br>");
I had tried to connect the database using this three way.
In 1st I tried using DSN name .
Next 2 self explainer for expert like you.
I used to 2nd variant to connect in eclipse and it worked fine.
I not an expert in java ,I just doing some research on jasperReport.
My best guest is that eclipse is using some library files of which I have no clue.
Thank's for your help,I appretiate it.

Problem Description:
ODBC functions SQLExecDirectW and SQLExecute functions return error:”DIAG [22001] [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]String data, right
truncation (0) “. When we enable tracing in the ODBC administrator, in the SQL.log we see that values for the arguments: ColumnSize, BufferLength, and StrLen_or_IndPtr of ODBC function SQLBindParameter are not being displayed.
Environment Used:
OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition.
Complier: Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1 for x64.
Database: Microsoft SQL Server 2008
MDAC: Microsoft Data Access Components SDK 2.8
Note: This problem is seen only in our 64bit application. However, in 32bit
SQLExecDirectW and SQLExecute functions return successfully.
As we could not find the values of 6th, 9th and 10th arguments(ColumnSize,
BufferLength, and StrLen_or_IndPtr) passed to
SQLBindParameter in the ODBC traces for 64bit, we are not sure whether the values for the above mentioned arguments are received correctly by SQLBindParameter or not. This information would help us to debug further. So, could you please let us know why
these values are not displayed.
1)Here is the extract of the SQL.log file for 32bit where the values for SQLULEN , SQLLEN and SQLLEN* are displayed properly:

SQLLEN SQLLEN SQLLEN *Hi Nalsr,
From my research, I found:
"[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String
data right truncation" error may be returned from a call to
SQLBindParameter if the size of the string parameter being used is greater than the size of the column being compared to. In other words if the
string size of the <expression> to the left of the <comparison_operator> is less than the
string size of the <expression> to the
right, ODBC may return this error.
The resolution is to make the string size of the <expression> to the
right of the <comparison_operator> less than or equal to the
string size of the <expression> on the left.
It is difficult to track down this type of problem when third party development applications are being used. ODBC Trace can be used to help determine if this problem is occuring.
Here is an example where the customer has submitted a query "select count(*) from type1 where type1 = ?", type1 is varchar(5) and the
data type being passed by the application is char[9].
Here is the relevant portion of the trace. The following information from the "exit" of SQLDescribeParam
SWORD * 0x0095e898 (12)
UDWORD * 0x0095e880 (5)
Maps to the following with the actual value in parenthesis - SQL_VARCHAR Size 5:
SQLSMALLINT *DataTypePtr
SQLUINTEGER *ParameterSizePtr
The "exit" value from SQLBindParameter provides the following
information:
SWORD 1 <SQL_PARAM_INPUT>
SWORD 1 <SQL_C_CHAR>
SQL Data Type SWORD 12 <SQL_VARCHAR>
Parameter Size UDWORD 5
SWORD 0
Value PTR 0x0181c188
Value Buffer Size SDWORD 5
String Length SDWORD * 0x0181c103 (9)
The string length parameter is the length of the
string being bound to the parameter, in this instance there is a size mismatch which results in the SQLError and the SQLErrorW with the message "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server
Driver]String data
right truncation" .
Hope this could be helpful.

We want to create a small portable application in our network that accesses a server on the internet using an internal proxy that requires integrated windows authentication (NTLM) from a standard domain client PC(non admin) running in
user mode after the client logged in. We wonder if such a PE is able to access cached credentials (LSASS hashes). If you read that browsers like chrome can access cached credentials with integrated
authentication I wonder if that is really possible. In my understanding no portable 3rd party application that gets executed after the user is logged in is able to access such stored hash
values (only maybe some hacker tools that run under system account can dump such hashes). But maybe it is possible. Very happy if someone can point me in the right direction.
Thx
OliverHi Oliver,
The closest method I can relate is Kerberos Delegation, which allows an application to reuse the end-user credentials to access recourses hosted on a different server.
More information for you:

Help,
setup a new sql server 2012 on a windows 2012r2 server to replace old sql server 2005 on an old windows server 2003 machine. When i test the ODBC connection locally on the server it works fine, however when i try to connect via windows 7 client machine
i get the following error:
Connection failed:
SQLState:'01000'
SQL Server Error:67
[Microsoft]ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen
(Connect()).
Connection failed:
SQLState:'08001'
SQL Server Error:17
[Microsoft]ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied
I think it must be a permissions thing, I've turned off the firewall for now and still no difference, 've also made sure remote connection is enabled. I can connect to the other sql server in studio manager on the new machine however, i can't go do
the same in the old server, says:
cannot connect to hbfsqlpro1\hbfsqlpro1
Additonal information a network related or instance specifc error occured while establising a connection to SQL server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL server is configured to
allow remote connections. (provider:SQL Network Interfaces, error 26 - error locationg server/instance specified) (Microsoft SQL server)
the instance is def correct, as that is what i use to connect locally on the new machine and what it comes up on the studio manager on the new machine. STarting to pull my hair out somewhat, i'm sure it's something really simple!Hello,
You are trying to connect to a named instance. Make sure the SQL Server Browser service is started on the SQL Server computer.
Make sure TCP/IP is enabled.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191294(v=sql.110).aspx
Try to disable Windows Firewall or security software on both, SQL Server instance and client computer.
Test basic connectivity too. Try to ping from the client computer to the SQL Server computer.
Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Guiga HafedhThere are more detailed logs for the various components. The one of interesting is the one for the engine or possibly the one for full-text.
These logs are extremely verbose, and the errors are rarely crystal clear, but at least give them a try. If you have problems, find a place to upload them (Dropbox, Skrydrive etc), so that we can look.
The closest at hand is that "group" that cannot be found is an AD group.
