ESS Address Book - Need "Valid as of Future Date" instead of "Valid From"

Hi,
We have implemented ESS (WebDynpro based) with MySAP ERP 2005. We have two independent Portals. On one of the Portals, in ESS address book iview the field comes as <b>"Valid as of Future Date"</b> and this does not allow and past date to enter. Whereas in the second portal the same field is visible as <b>"Valid From"</b>. I have checked the settings in IMG and checked the time constraint, everything seems same.
Please help me how can I configure the date in second portal to be <b>"Valid as of Future Date"</b>. Is there any configuration that needs to be done in backend/front to do this??
Please help!!!
Regards,
Ravi

Hi Ravi,
May be you can check the ESS Setting  for Address Book.
in the IMG Path
Personnel Management -->Employee Self Service --> Service Specific -->Address Book --> Who's Who --> Selection and Output.
May be in this path , you can for the Country Code, what are the Selection fields set.
Hope this helps.

Raj

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

    Mike,
Are any of your other applications going wonky, or is it just Logic?
I'm afraid I've never heard of this particular problem before, but if it were happening to me the first thing I would do is delete my "com.apple.logic.express.plist" file in Library>Preferences, then repair permissions in Disc Utility, and finally restart my computer.  Then I would launch Logic and see if the problem has been corrected.  It's amazing how much these two steps can accomplish.
If that doesn't resolve the issue I would launch Logic and go to Preferences>Audio Units Manager to see if all my plug-ins are properly validated.

  • Duplicated Every Contact in My Address Book, Need Help Deleting

I recently had to trade in my 8830 for a new one due to warranty issues.  I am synced up with my employer's enterprise server and all the contacts I have on that server were re-synced but for some reason, I have two of every contact in my address book now.  I had some issues when re-syncing to the server and ran the sync twice.  I'm pretty positive it has something to do with that.  I'm sure there is a file in the options menu that I can delete, but I need somebody to tell me where it is.  If something goes haywire and I end up deleting all my contacts on the server, I'd be screwed.  Any help? Thanks

  • Address Book field names changing for "imported" data

I'm migrating from a thousand year old Palm Pilot that has served me so well to an iPhone. So it's time to get my contacts into OSX Address Book.
I have tried moving the data a couple of ways - exporting vCards and text files from the Palm Desktop software.
I did extensive editing of the text file in MS Excel to get the data into good order.
I have set up a template in the Address Book preferences to create fields that I want/need. Some are generic default field names, some have custom names. eg. I want to see a field called "Bus. Phone" not one called "work". Call me picky.
I get the same basic result no matter if I import the vCard file or a text file - The names of the fields just show up with very generic names in the imported data. I should note that creating a NEW record seems to use the field names that I have specified in the preferences.
Also, when importing the text file, Address Book asks me to assign the field names for certain fields (while it seems smart enough to know what labels to use for other fields all on it's own). However, the Field Names available in the drop down menu ARE NOT the ones that I have set up in the prefs. I seem limited to the generic default field names only.
Can anybody tell me how to get the field names to be what I want them to be for address data that is being imported like this?
Thanks for any suggestions - this has been driving me crazy as it would seem to me to be a pretty basic process. (I mean, the Address Book has this import functionality and custom field name functionality built in so it should work right?!)
    Allen

No sooner do I ask than I notice that other people have asked the same question. In one of the reply's I saw mention of a product called "Abee".
I tracked it down and it did the job for me! Custom Field names live on!
    It's at:

  • Address Book Sync with Google Contacts across computers (instead of iCloud with Lion)?

I am trying to get ready for the port to iCloud and i am going to do this while still on Snow Leopard per Roger Wilmut's fantastic documentation. It appear to me I will simply lose Bookmark Sync (until I move to Mountail Lion) which is a small(ish) price to pay to not have to deal with an upgrade at the moment.
The question I am hoping to answer is if it will be possible to SYNC MY CONTACTS across my devices (MacBookPro, MacPro and iPhone) using the Sync with Google Contacts Option in Address Book Preferences.
Does anyone know if checking this option will put these contacts on both of my Machines and on my iPhone?
ALSO, does anyone know if it is possible to put the ADDRESS BOOK CONTACTS in one folder and the GOOGLE CONTACTS in another folder so they don't all get mixed up together?
    TIA

I can't even get manual Google syncing to work with iCloud enabled. Without iCloud, everything works fine.

  • Address Book, how do I see what account the contact is from?

In OS X Lion, Address Book, I have many names listed 2,3,4 times. Would like to know what account they belong to (Exchange, On my Mac, Mobile Me etc.) so that I can delete the extra ones.
In address book, can I select the contact and see what account the contact belongs to?
    Hope so.
    Thx Much

    Thx Matt,
Not sure you know what I want to do. I have numerous contacts in my address book, some are from my exchange account, some stored on my Mac and some from Mobile Me.
If I see the same name three times is there a way I kno what account each of the duplicate name belongs to.
    Hope I said this right.
    Thx Much
..holding down the "option" key when I click on to a contact does not seem to do anything.

  • Address Book contact preview shows a different date than what is input in the birthday field.

When opening the address book and clicking on an entry, the preview pane at the bottom shows a different date than the date that is entered in the birthday field. It shows the day before the actual date that is entered. See images below:
    Thanks!

Thunderbird numbering is based on the Extended Support Releases, which are provided every seven "regular" cycles (thus after 7 6-week cycles = every 42 weeks) to minimize fallout from new features hitting the releases to frequently. Initially, those release were issued to organizations only which require some kind of internal review or certification of software prior to deployment.
Currently we are in the "37.0" cycle and 38 beta 1 has just been released (but doesn't have the fix yet). Meaning, the next release after 31.6.0 won't be 31.7.0 but 38.0 already, followed by 38.1.0 up to 38.6.0, the continuing with 45.0, etc.
Confusing, yes, but that's what they came up with.

I'm trying to print a custom envelope from Address book using one of my groups. I keep getting a No Pages were selected message. Anybody have any Ideas?

Hello, I find that only entries with Home or Work filled in with an address will show.
Might try right clicking on this link & saving Apple's Addy, then import this vCard, select it & see if it shows one envelope...

  • Add receipients of message as group in address book

ok, this seems simple, but once again, Mac disagrees and makes it impossibly complicated. I typed in about 15 email addresses for a mass mailing I did in Mail recently, and I want to save these people as a group. I'll send emails to them all again in the future. here are the problems I've encountered:
    1. when I select all the addresses in the "sent" message header, and then select "add to address book," it only adds one of the addresses. ridiculous.
    2. even if I was to add them individually, I would then need to manually create a new group in address book, and then add each address one by one. again, ridiculous.
    3. one suggestion on here was to export my entire address book, then delete all entries, add the ones from the message, save them as a group, then re-import the original addresses. again, and again, ridiculous.
why is this so difficult? am I missing something?

figured it out. when in doubt, drag.
highlight the entries you want to save, open address book, create a new group name, and drag the entries from mail and drop them on the group. done.

  • Are my Address Book contacts in iCloud or On My Mac?

Is there some reason why, since iCloud, we have to have duplicates of every Contact in our Address Book?
Additionally, when I'm cleaning up my Address Book on my MacBook Pro (10.7.3) there's no way to tell if a contact is in "On My Mac" or "iCloud".
I have seen no clear discussion of this. If I change an entry for "John Q Smith" in my Address Book, why doesn't it "Unify" as they do on my iPhone? I end up with two different Address Book entries, one in either iCloud or "On My Mac" with the changes and another without the changes.
There is no field on an "Address Book" contact indicating its source ["On My Mac", or "iCloud"].
Why do I need two entries for every entry in my Address Book? This issue has been correctly identified and treated on the iPhone — I get a "Unified" classification and a change to the Contact happens synchronously.

I am already configured for, and using iCloud as my default account.
If I select "All Contacts", I have duplicates of every entry in my Address Book.
When I select the corresponding option on my iPhone, I get "Unified Contacts" — this is GOOD and SMART — when I change a 'Unified' contact on my iPhone, all the entries are synchronously changed. This is how Mac OS X 10.7.3's Address Book should be treating these entries. Is there not an option somewhere to activiate this same feature?
IF I REMOVE "ON MY MAC" FROM MY ADDRESS BOOK ACCOUNTS, I WILL BE UNABLE TO SYNCHORONISE MY ADDRESS BOOK WITH ANY OTHER SERVICE SUCH AS GOOGLE OR YAHOO. This is highly undesireable. As lovely and singular as is Apple and it's products, there are other services in the world with which I must coordinate and this is beyond my control.
It looks like, from the responses above, that I will be editing every duplicate Address Book contact for the foreseeable future if I want to have non-Apple sync-able contact database as well as be on iCloud, which I do love.

  • Offline Address Book problem

    Scenario:
    We had an Exchange 2010 Server that we wanted to temporarily migrate over to another server, then migrate back.  We ended up deciding not to migrate it back, but now it will be migrated to another piece of hardware. There are 3 Exchange Servers involved;
Exchange1 (the originating server, which has since been deleted from AD), Exchange2 (the temporary mail server), and Exchange3 (the final destination).
    Problem:
Currently, Exchange1 has been deleted from AD, mail is flowing on Exchange2 and I'm trying it install Exchange onto the third server, but I'm having a problem with Offline Address Books. I receive the following error during the initial installation process
    for Exchange 2010...
    Client Access Role Prerequisites:  Failed
Error:  The nominated Exchange server for offline address book 'Base-OAB' has been deleted. Nominate a valid server and restart setup.
And naturally, I receive the following when I attempt to update the OAB...
Error:  Exchange server "PEARCEDEL:903400db-dd36-463f-950e-3d1db9313db0" was not found. Please make sure you typed the name correctly.
    Details:
When I look at the OAB on Exchange2, I can see the default OAB that derived from Exchange1.  I've tried to move that OAB to Exchange3, but i get the following (I'm also unable to delete it):
Error:   You must provide a value for this property.  Warning:  The server from which this offline address book is being moved, "PEARCEDEL:903400db-dd36-463f-950e-3d1db9313db0", no longer exists in Active Directory.  The
OAB will be moved, but this will lead to a full OAB download for all users who are provisioned to use this OAB.  If public folder distribution was enabled, the older replica will be removed from the public folder.  Also, some OAB settings may be
changed during the move.  Please examine the OAB after it has been moved and verify the settings.
Now, the above message says that it will move, but it doesn't.
I also receive that same "You must provide a value for this property." error when I try to create a new OAB.
I'm not concerned about salvaging the old OAB, I just need to be able to install Exchange on Exchange3.
Thank you  in advance for your help!

And naturally, I receive the following when I attempt to update the OAB...

    Hi,
Manually removing Exchange 2007 and later versions using ADSIEDIT is not supported and will not do the necessary cleanups of different settings outside the servers own container.
With that said, you will need to manually change the OAB Generation Server for your OAB using ADSIEdit and you do that by modifying the setting configured for
offLineABServer shown in the picture below.

  • Address Book doesn't sync UP to iCloud, but syncs back down..

(Sorry, Winston, and maybe Roger, I must be developing Alzheimer's ..I just cannot understand how this iCloud system works..)
I've searched through hundreds of queries and answers, but cannot find a similar problem ..but maybe I simply haven't looked hard enough.
Question on behalf of my good lady ..and I've been tearing my hair out over this for WEEKS..
She has 3502 contacts in her Address Book on her OS X Lion 10.7.4 MacBook Air. She has two iPhones. They're both running iOS 5.1.1. She has enabled iCloud on ALL these three devices, using her @me.com identity and appropriate password.
She updates Address Book contacts ONLY on her MBA - for sync'ing to her phones - and she does NOT update any Contacts info on her phones in order to have them transferred BACK to her Mac. That's how she prefers to work.
The only way that her Address Book contacts will sync UP to iCloud from the Mac appears to be to select 'All on My Mac' within Address Book, and to Export as vcards to a file on her Mac, and then, in the online iCloud Contacts webpage, to Import that file of vcards. All well and good, but that seems to ignore all her various Groups; everything ends up bundled all into one group. (Perhaps each Group in her Mac's Address Book needs to be separately Exported and then Imported, but surely it shouldn't be as long-winded as that.)
(About 402 of these contacts are not accepted by the online iCloud Contacts, although they seem to fall within the requirements of not being too many, not being too large, etc. But that's a separate problem which I'm still investigating ..maybe the names are formatted incorrectly; I'll keep working on that separately..)
Anyhow: by explicitly Importing all those Address Book contacts into the iCloud Contacts, they then immediately start to get distributed - correctly! - to her iPhones ..but also back into the Address Book on her Mac, thereby DUPLICATING them all in Address Book! (They CAN be seen as SINGLE entries by choosing 'All iCloud'.)
I cannot understand the opaque instructions in all of the iCloud documentation. NONE of the documentation which I've studiously read (online, in System Prefs, in every Help file I can find) seems to indicate a DIRECTION for this iCloud sync'ing.
WHERE - if there is such a place - does one specify that contacts should go only UP FROM the Mac, and not BACK DOWN to the Mac?
There seem to be options only to turn ON sync'ing (or off), but not the DIRECTION of sync'ing, or which device(s) take precedence. (..In iTunes - when sync'ing phones to a Mac with a cable - there's a preference to over-write EITHER the host Mac with data FROM a phone, or to over-write an iPhone's data with data FROM the Mac..)
    So I'm asking..
    (a) Can one specify a DIRECTION when turning on sync'ing for a device?
    (b) With iCloud sync'ing turned ON on a Mac, is there any known reason why Address Book contacts should not send themselves UP to the iCould, instead of having to be manually Imported?
    (c) Does one Export Groups individually? ..But what if a name is in more than one Group ..does it get duplicated online in iCloud?
    (d) Is there not the intelligence within the iCloud facility for the system to NOT distribute back, or duplicate, contacts to the device which is the SOURCE of those contacts? Should it not do a comparison between iCloud and a device, and then recognise that those contacts already exist on the remote device, and therefore NOT distribute them BACK again to the SOURCE? (..Or am I having too high expectations?..)
Many thanks in anticipation, and I'm so sorry to be such a nuisance if this has already been answered a zillion times before.
(Yes, Winston; she has almost as many iPhones as you have AppleTVs!)
    All best wishes,
    David.

David, nice to hear from you again, hope you are well.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Address Book.
I believe you have duplicates because you have two sets of contacts. "iCloud" and "On My Mac". Once you have created all your contacts in the iCloud account, you should delete them from On My Mac.
You can move contacts simply by dragging and dropping from one account to the other, you don't need to export them all to the desktop (although doind so will serve as a good back up if all goes wrong). You should note that this copies them though rather than simply move them, so you'll need to delete the old set when you are done.
As for preserving groups from the On My Mac Account, you can't but you can simplify recreating them by copying contacts (drag and drop) from an on my mac group to an empty group in iCloud.
Not sure about the contacts that you are struggling to move.
Many aspects of iCloud are difficult to understand, have a mull through what I've said so far and come back if everything still doesn't fall into place.

  • My Address Book Wish List

Just sent the following to Apple Feedback. Curious to see if any others share similar hopes -- or if any of my requests are in fact already possible, but I've just been too dense to figure out how to do them:
    (using AB 4.0.4 under OX X 10.4.8)
Nine Improvements Many Address Book Users (including me)
    Would Really Like To See:
    1) Phone dialer function.
Since Macs still have internal modems, why not take advantage of the fact and provide users with the option of having Address Book dial the number you've just used Address Book to look up? There are 3rd party apps that do this, but it's the kind of feature that really should be built right in for full compatibility.
    2) Auto Fill + Auto Capitalization options for each text field.
Users should be able to designate which text fields do or do not use one or both. (Previous editions of Address Book had a hyper-active auto-fill function, while the latest version seems to have abandoned it altogether.)
The auto capitalization should work the same as when you start typing a name into Mac Mail's "To" field, offering a list of possible matches (different cities, for example), beginning with the one most recently used.
The auto capitalization should be a separate user pref which can be turned on or off for any text field.
    3) More display options for Name column
Specifically, it would be nice to be able to have Last Name / First Name for scrolling through the Name column, but still show First Name / Last Name in the individual Card View on the right.
    4) More intelligent search capability
For example, by entering a phrase with quote marks, I should be able to see only those cards which contain that exact phrase, not just any card which happens to contain any one of the words in the phrase.
    5) Intelligent handling of two-surname couples.
For non-business, personal entries, there's a reality out there which needs to be acknowledged: there are a lot of unmarried couples sharing the same address and basic contact info, AND there are many married couples where the wife has retained her own surname.
Address Book needs to be able to deal with two-surname couples much more intelligently, so that (for example) a search can be run using EITHER surname to access the same card. Also, you've got an Anniversary field, but apparently no option to add a second "Birthday" date (since most couples do have different birthdays).
There needs to be a basic template in which the members of couples with different surnames each get equal "weight" in the database -- and this applies to same-sex couples as well, so the pairs of Surname and Birthday fields should not be automatically designated as "His" and "Hers".
    6) Ways to enter partial dates
For certain date fields (such as "Brthday" and "Anniversary"), it's often the case where only a year is know, or a year and a month but not the exact date. Sometimes a date is just a best guess or an approximation. But Address Book seems determined to create a complete date, using the current month and day if none are entered, and not even letting manually erase same after it does.
A little flexibility here, please! I know I can put anything I want down in the Notes field, but couldn't the Birthday and Anniversary ones be made a little less rigid in their formatting?
    7) Remember the new template fields when editing
I've added several new fields for the template which appears when I create a new entry. But it's annoying when those new fields all disappear as soon as I then need to edit that entry later on.
You've given us the option to add additional fields to our default template when we CREATE a new entry; why not also give us the option to access those same additional fields (and field names in the pull down lists) when we EDIT the same entry?
This should even apply to entries which were originally created using the original Apple template -- the new fields and field names created by the user should become available whenever you go into Edit mode.
    8) Make Distribution Lists easily printable, exportable, and more flexible.
Should be able to select more than one e-address from a particular contact for a distribution list (as in both members of a couple, or both the home and work e-addresses for a particular individual -- instead of having to create a separate card just for those separate e-addresses).
Also like to be able to simply copy/paste a distribution list (and/or Export it as a Tab or Paragraph delineated text file), which I could either print out, or e-mail to a friend who needed it, etc.
    9) Hours of Operation field.
For commercial/business entries, a default "Hours" field would be nice, with some sort of easy-to-select options to facilitate entering the times a business, a store, or even a customer service line is open on given days. There should even be the ability to enter seasonal hours for different times of year.
I hope that these features have already been incorporated into the next release of Address Book -- and if not, that you'll give serious consideration to implementing them as soon as possible. Your users will thank you.

Download AddressBookToCSV 1.1 from www.versiontracker.com. It will export your contacts to a CSV file that can be imported by Gmail.

  • How do I import the address book from my E72

I just got a iPhone 4 and have over 300 contacts from the phonebook to import from an E72. Can someone advise.
    Thx

The iPhone supports syncing contacts with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book app used by Windows Mail called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.
You need get the contacts available in either Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 or in Windows Contacts by whichever method is supported for this with the E72 and Windows - software available for the device that can get the contacts in a supported address book app on your computer or by transferring the contacts from the device to supported address book application on your computer via Bluetooth.
