Essbase excel login help

Hello all,
One of my user having issue with logging through essbase excel addin 2007 933 v.
User is seeing blank screen in the box once user enter the server info,id and pwd. user cannot see any apps/db's under that server.
I have verified access and asked to try from another system...they are seeing same result.

Please reinstall the Excel addin and try again..
I had similar issue ...so i have suggested the user to reinstalling the Excel and Excel addin...and it works for them..

Essbase excel add-in database disappears

Hi Gurus,
I have this issue with Essbase Excel add-in.
When I try to connect to the database, I can see the pop-up where I can specify the SERVER and then I can see the list of databases too. However, when I select the database that I want to connect to and hit OK, the names of all the databases disappear.
What could be the issue with this?
Any suggestion would be helpful.

First question with the add-in -- do you have more than one instance of Excel.exe running? Check it in Task Manager -- if so, kill all of the instances and try again.

Essbase Excel Plugin Errors/Warnings

Our company is in the process of packaging software and we recently received the package for the Essbase Excel Plugin today and ran into errors while testing it out. My thought process is that the file permissions on the Hyperion Solutions folder are incorrect and the user does not have/read access to this folder. Would file permissions cause the following errors (seen below)?
Error #1
Opening a wallet (C:\Hyperion Solutions\Middleware\EPMSysttem11R1\products\ExcelAddin;\products\ExcelAddin\bin\wallet) failed (28759).
Error #2
SSL Initialization failed with error code [1040132].

One Of the following Environment Variables is not set:
ARBORPATH
ESSBASEPATH
ORACLE_INSTANCE

Solution
Make sure the following Paths are set in the Environment Variables:
Example:
ORACLE_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\ohs
ORACLE_INSTANCE=C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1
ARBORPATH=C:\Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/epmsystem1/EssbaseServer/essbaseserver1
ESSBASEPATH=C:\Oracle/Middleware/EPMSystem11R1/products/Essbase/EssbaseServer
Where "C" Is your installation Path.
In order to remove the warning message:
Copy from $ORACLE_INSTANCE\config\Opmn\opmn\wallet directory along with the cwallet.sso to the ARBORPATH\bin directory.

What version of Essbase Excel add-in support 64 bit Windows 7 on our PC?

1) Can anyone tell us what is latest version of 64 bit Essbase Excel-add-in 11.1.1.3.x and will this latest version of Essbase Excel add-in support 64 bit Windows 7 on our PC?
2) we downloaded Essbase excel add-in 11.1.2 and was not able to connect to Essbase 11.1.1.3 server. It gave an error message - "This version is newer than the Essbase server." Is there a workaround? (we were hoping 11.1.2 would support 64 bit windows 7)
ps. There is a knowlegebase article that teaches us how to get Smartview 11.1.2 to connect to Essbase. We could not quite follow the badly written KB artible, but Ms. V from Oracle tech support claims she was able to connect and she wrote the article.
We did manage to get Smartview 11.1.2 to connect to Planning 11.1.1.3!!

I am able to connect using Essbase excel add-in 11.1.2 and see the list of Essbase server 11.1.1.3 app/databases. However when I tried to select one of the applications/databases, I get the Essbase warning "This version of Essbase 11.1.1.3) is older than the version of the Essbase API (11.1.2.0) you are using."
I get sent back to Essbase system Login screen and am asked to select a app/database. Add-in keeps giving me the above message - none of the 11.1.1.3 databases would allow me to connect.
I guess you guys did not experience this problem?

In Excel I have under the Essbase Connect Dialog:

I am not sure this is working properly. Again I am not using any of the web services, just want to connect directly connect to Essbase.

Unable to find/install Essbase Excel Add-in

Hello,
When I installed Essbase on this computer, for some reason we did not have MS Office installed and so the Add-in was not installed automatically.
Now, I cannot find the essexeln.xll file in the bin director and Excel does not show it as an Add-in. The Excel version I am using is 9.0.3821 SR-1.
How do I install this add-in on my computer? Thanks.

Installing the Essbase Excel add-in is pretty harmless, and I assume this is on a PC not a server correct?
If this is 9.3.1 and if it's on a PC just run the setup.exe for the "Hyperion Essbase Release 931 Client Windows Installer" - do you still have that downloaded??
It should fit on a flash drive if you just want to take it over to the PC in question and run the setup.exe. There's the .exe, a .jar and a .inf file that comes with the install.
Be sure you're logged on as an Admin on the PC before you install, that's easiest.
Once you install do a reboot just for fun (probably not required but given the history of your install) then go back to your Start | Programs menu and run that register add-in item from above.

No. of Columns limitations in Essbase Excel retrieval.

May I know the number of columns that Excel Essbase add-in supports. We are facing an issue while retreiving data for 261 columns in excel 2007 version fom Essbase 9.3.0 server.
Earlier I came across the situation that Essbase add-in for 2003 will support only 256 columns.
Please advise ASAP.

1. 256 columns was not a essbase excel add in constraint , but its of 2003 microsoft excel limitation,as it has 65,536 row limitation.
2. Coming to 2007, they have increased number of possible columns from 256 to 16384 ,so should be able to retrieve more columns technically. I dont see it as excel add in issue again. But i have not checked with so many columns , but from 2007 excel perspective they have defintely increased from 256 and also increase the row count from 65536 to more than a million.

Query on Essbase Excel Add-in

I have a query on Essbase excel addin 6.5..By anyway is it possible to restrict the visibility of applications/Databases listed to any particular user for which they dont have access?
I am using Essbase Application Manager 6.5.6. Please guide me if someone is aware of this.

I, too, would recommend rebuilding the workbook.. Excel workbooks can get some funny behaviors, particularly if they contain VBA code. VBA in Excel stays 'semi-compiled' and never really clears itself out and a bunch of phantom references remain (and are completely hidden). I have seen some very strange behavior cleaned up by rebuilding the workbook..

Essbase Excel Add-in for Excel 2013

Hi There,
I recently upgrade from Excel 2010 to 2013, it seems Essbase Excel Add-in (1.1.2.2) has some issue with Excel 2013, does anybody experience this too, any advice on this?

The excel add-in is not certified to work with Excel 2013 and a matter of fact, the only version of Smart View certified with it is 11.1.2..5 which just came out. The Essbase Add-in has not been updated in a shile and has been susetted by Oracle so there will be no new versions of it

Essbase Excel Add-In (11.1.2.1) and Office 2010

I was wondering if anyone knows if the Essbase Excel Add-In (v11.1.2.1) is compatible in Office 2010 (64-bit)?
I found some search results from about 6-8 months ago saying that it was supported in Office 2010, but not in the 64-bit edition. Does anyone know if this has changed and if this is in fact supported?
If not supported has it been tested to at least work?

Essbase excel add-on error after installing IR Studio.

Hyperion software compatibility issues?
Getting Essbase excel add-on error ("Error 1040007 Cannot find message database") after installing Hyperion Interactive Reporting Studio 9.3.1. We are able to consistently reproduce the error on several workstations.
Any ideas?

Try installing IR first, followed by the Essbase client. I think that worked for us. I can't recall what our path looked like in that scenario I just remember if we did it in that order things worked fine. I think Support said there is no certain "install order" that truly fixes the problem, that you have to manipluate the path by hand. But I'm pretty sure installing IR first worked in our enviro.
I do not know of a way to install IR Studio without the Essbase components, my understanding from Support is that they changed the product install thinking it was better this way, they learned after the fact it actually causes the problem you experienced. I would imagine they've changed/fixed the install behavior again in post 9.3.1 releases, but haven't heard.

If you use vb script, you can use the following:
' Step 3. Activate Essbase Excel Add-Ins
Set myAddIn = XL.AddIns.Add("C:\Hyperion\Essbase\Bin\essexcln.xll")
myAddIn.Installed = False
myAddIn.Installed = True
You need to find the equivalent of the above within excel vba.
And also the right location of the essexcln.xll.
With citrix, I guess the issue is with the user profile under
\Documents and Settings\ that need to be adjusted, but I have
no further information on this.
