"Essential" Tiger fonts

I was having a font display issue with certain types of html emails using Entourage and thought it might be a font related issue, so I did an archive and install and then checked the system/library/fonts folder and the main library/fonts folder against <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301332>
What I found out is that compared to what is shown in this article, there are quite a few additional fonts installed in the main library/fonts folder that are not mentioned in the info article above. So, what we have is a list of essential fonts that must be in the library and a list of those that can be disabled and then nothing about all the rest of the installed fonts that are not in either listing.
I am curious as to what additional fonts can be safely disabled that are not mentioned in the article at all.
20" Intel duo iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I've been very successful following this guide from Extensis (the makers of Suitcase):
http://dl.extensis.com/downloads/SC/EN/P/FontsBest_Practices_inOSX.pdf
I have set up many systems by first moving these fonts out of the system and allowing my font manager to control their activation with no ill effects.
Hope this helps.

  • Easiest way to uninstall and reinstall Original Tiger fonts

I have collected few fonts, but a few of them have played havoc on my browsers.
What is the best (and easiest) way to uninstall all of my fonts and then reinstall so that I have only the "factory settings" fonts?
    Thanks
    PowerMac G5 2x2   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi
    See this Apple Document.
Note: Do not mess at all with any of the fonts in the /System/Library/Fonts folder. These fonts are essential for the operating of your Mac. If you do remove any of these your Mac will most likely not work at all and you will need to re-install Mac OS X from your install discs.
Why not just keep the fonts listed in the above linked article. Are you experiencing a font problem? If so, why not ask ask a question directly related to that?
If you do need to re-install any elements from OS X Install discs then you can use Pacifist.

  • Tiger font problem

If this comes across as intended, the next line should show Unicode dice characters starting at U+2680:
    ⚀ ⚁ ⚂ ⚃ ⚄ ⚅
(Safari is only Mac web browser I've used that renders these at all.)
Since I've upgraded to Tiger, the spots on the 4 and 5 dice are not uniform!
What's up with that? The dice look fine under Panther. A fix is surely in order.
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

First, insertion of, say, Chinese characters from the Character panel fails in Photoshop and Omnigraffle (both of which previously worked). Nor does it work when using direct Hex input. Both of these techniques work, however, in other applications such as BareBones. Photoshop and Omnigraffle, again as examples, will display a "?" when you insert a character outside of the usual Latin range.
Second, if you cut/paste that character, even though it appears as "?" from Photoshop or Omnigraffle to another application, such as BareBones, the correct glyph is displayed. Alternatively, if you cut/paste from a working application back into a non-working application, you again get (at best) the "?"; Photoshop and Omnigraffle both display an error message.
These procedures worked prior to 10.4.6. I know. I have an Omnigraffle document built using them. I can open it and it displays just fine, but inserting new characters fails.
Does that clear things up? You can test this with, say, the Arial font and U+3D1C. (Arial supports a wide range of characters. An Asian font is not required. Again, my existing Omnigraffle document displays this character using Arial.)

  • Having Font Book problems since upgrading to Tiger.

Once I upgrade to Panther, I pitched Suitcase, and have been using Font Book exclusively for activating Fonts and such.
After upgrading to Tiger font book has basically rendered itself worthless for me. At least half of my old font wont load through font book. On alot of my type 1 fonts, if I drag them to Font Book, then the font will appear to be loaded and activated, but actually only the scren font was copied to the fonts folder (user/library/fonts). If I manually copy the fonts into this folder, then they sow up in my Adobe apps (CS2), but still print lo res.
For now I have ditched Font Book, and have been using Font Explorer X, and it works flawlessly, but I'd rather use Font Book if I can get it to behave, as I like the interface better.
In addition, I am also unable to load many PC TT fonts through Font Book Tiger, that I had no problem loading through FB in Panther.
Any Ideas, or is it just buggy?

Well, Font Book under Tiger is still buggy, but it's better than under Panther, and not buggy in the ways you describe, so there's something else going on.
Adobe apps will "load" a bitmapped font into their menus but then tell you, if you select them, that the printer file is missing and printing will be at lo-res, which is what you're describing. You say you "manually copy these fonts to the folder"; by "these fonts" are you referring to the printer files (which you said were not being copied to the Users fonts folder thru Font Book)?
The mystery is how Font Book is helping you install fonts which are apparently bitmap suitcases without copying the printer files along with it to the target folder.
So, a couple of things to check, choosing just one or two of the problem fonts to manipulate:
-When you "drag to Font Book" where are you dragging them? Depending on where you drop them, they could go to the default Install folder (set in Preferences), or someplace else. If you drag them to the Classic Mac OS library in Font Book, that could let you install bitmap-only suitcase fonts (without their PostScript companions). These will only show up in Classic apps and in Adobe apps, as described above.
-Might your suitcase files have both TrueType and bitmapped versions of a font inside? That might explain why only the suitcase file is being installed thru Font Book - it's just ignoring the bitmap.
In all, it still "feels" like a problem of bitmaps without their printer files... did you rename the printer files, by any chance? That will keep the OS from finding them at print time.
Did you clean everything up after ditching Suitcase? I don't know what artifacts you might be dealing with.
As for the PC TTs that worked before but not now... that's the real puzzler.
In both cases - your Type 1s and TTs, what happens when you put them right into the Fonts folder, bypassing Font Book.
Get back with more info, and we'll get back with more analysis...

  • Font Book: Installed postscript Fonts don't always appear in Font Book list

    Greetings,
I was helping a user the other day with Font Book. I was showing him how to add/enable fonts into Font Book when I noticed a problem I had never seen before. Before I get started, the fonts in question are from the Adobe 7 Font Folio library. There were newly installed by me from the original disk, and known not to be corrupt. I also know that that Postscript fonts are an accepted font format in Tiger.
That said, when adding.installing a particular font using Font Book, it would not "Appear" in the Font Book" list of fonts. I would attemp to, again add/enable the font (by selecting it from the Adobe Library) and still it would not appear in the Font Book list with the other installed fonts. This would happen to any font that I tried to install. Once this happenend to a specific font, I could no longer get that specific font to install.
I removed the Font Book .plist - no luck. I also rebooted - no luck.
Obviously, no application was able to recognize any of the fonts that would not install.
It was as if Font Book would not recognize any font that I was trying to add/enable.
Could this be a corrupted cache issue, or .plist problem? Could this be a permissions related issue? What did work finally was to add the font to the "Computer" set, where it would be avaialbe to all users. But I could not get the font to install into the "User" set. Weird.
Also, What is the significance of these four fonts:
    HelveLTMM
    Helvetica LT MM
    Times LT MM
    TimesLTMM
These fonts above are part of the default package that is loaded into the /System/Library/Fonts
Is it safe to replace these with Postscript version from my Adobe 7 Font Folio collection?
I have read most of the font related tutorials and articals.
    thanks,

    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.6)

    where did
you get the information about pre-92 Adobe postscript
    fonts being uncompatible?
Oh, sure, it's hard enough for me to remember things these days and now you want me to remember where I learned them from?? geez... [gone lookin' ... okay, back] It was, as I vaguely recalled, on the Adobe site, re troubleshooting in OS X, in a list of "do this to solve your problems": "Make sure that you are using the latest version of the font... If the font's creation date is prior to 1992, a new version of the font may be available." The only Type 1's that have given me any problems were, all three of them, older than 92, and in troubleshooting something here a few weeks ago, that turned out to be a problem for someone else, too.
But all of the Tiger font
research that I have done suggests that Adobe
    Postscript fonts were acceptable.
Yes, well... Type 1's are supported. It seems that some older ones are a little funky (not in a design sense....)
Ideally, what fonts can be removed from Tiger from
the System/Libray/Fonts folder? I know that all four
of the MM's (Helvetica LTand Times LT), Lucida
Grande, Geneva, Keyboard, Last Resort, and Monoco
must stay, but what about the others?
You also need a real Helvetica - that is, not the MM version. You can replace the system's Helvetica with one of your own, but there must be an available Helvetica around at all times.
Then there's AquaKana (two of them, regular and bold). They're not on Apple's official "do not remove" list, but there's some anecdotal evidence of its being needed. It's "real" name begins with a period, so it doesn't appear in any menu, so it's not going to hurt anything if you leave it there.
In stripping down nonessential fonts, lots of people just remove everything from the Library/Fonts folder, but I think it's good to leave the basic most common web fonts available: Comic Sans, Georgia, Trebuchet, Verdana, Times New Roman. This keeps web pages looking the way they're supposed to - and they shouldn't conflict with anything that's being really designed!
This is assuming that the fonts
being used are not damaged and "Pass" Font Book's
    validation test.
The assumption within that assumption is false: Font Book's validation is pretty iffy. I think the only reason we don't see it as REALLY iffy is because fonts, on the whole, are pretty solid in OS X (your current experience to the contrary). I've installed fonts (properly) that flew through the automatic-on-install validation but failed when I used the Validate Font command afterwards. I've had fonts that pass both the on-install and specific after-install validation but get a Bad Font warning dialog when being re-enabled after a disabling. (And I didn't use the font in between... ) Who knew Font Book did any validating when you re-enable fonts??
This is what I would do:
    (Not necessarily in this order)
    1. Trash Font Book .plist
    2. Trash all Font Cache's from all three libraries
    (System, Computer, and User folders)
    3. Reboot
    4. Delete problem fonts from User and Computer
Libraries and reinstall using Font Book.
Please tell me if this strategy is ill-advised, and
what the better course of action might be.
None of it is ill-advised. I would add starting up in Safe Mode to see if the problems exist there as part of the narrow-down-the-problem stage. Same goes for setting up a separate user account and see how things are behaving there. (Yikes... did you try that yet??)
In addition, there are some special things to do when it's Office apps having the problem, or something going on with Adobe's application fonts folder...
Also, Zaph Dingbats is acting up as well. I removed
the .dfont version that was in the system folder, and
replaced it with the Adobe Font Folio Postscript
version (ITC Zaph Dingbats) that I loaded into Font
Book User/Library/Fonts folder. Now that I think
about it, that specific font has been around for
along time, and may very well be pre-1992. Hmmm...
Can you further define "acting up" ? In addition to the ZD dfont from the system, I've been using/testing ITC ZD from Adobe with no problems. It's version 2.0 with copyright dates of 1985 through 1987.
A lot to respond to. My apologies.
No problem. You caught me on a night when I'm too tired for real work but not so far gone I can't do this (tho I'm soon on my way, bleary-eyed, to get a fix of Sudoku puzzles).

  • Foreign fonts display in character drop down menu

When designing a sign for a customer, I take a photo of the existing signs, place on a new document in illustrator cs6, type text then scroll through the text character drop down menu to match the new sign text to the font that is currently on the customers signs, business card etc.
There are many different types of fonts and I would prefer not to have the adobe system fonts, asian, arabic and other fonts that are not used for my purposes.
Is there a way to remove them from this list.
I have tried deleteing them from the window 7 font manager but they are essential system fonts and it displays a message that some programes will not work if I delete them.
I have tried show/hide in the windows 7 font manager but this has no effect on the fonts displayed in illustrator.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    update...
Seems windows 7 fonts can be set to show/hide for some programs but it does not work in illustrator. I have found a helpful program by Adobe Air called Font Picker which displays only the fonts installed and excludes hidden fonts (windows 7 font manager).
It would be good to have a search facility that has fonts catagorised. There are a few out there where you can tag them but I don't see myself sitting through 35000+ fonts I have collected over the years.
I did install Illustrator CC which has a few added options under the character font drop down menu. It also has a link to Typekit on Adobe Cloud but would you believe it didn't have Calligri which is a very common script font.
Has anyone on this forum found a solution to this before. There are may questions related to this on the web but no answers or feed back.

  • Mail only works with Font Book open

I copied a lot of fonts to my laptop and all the fonts would show up on my desktop publisher. I did not want all the fonts enabled so I disabled the ones I didn't need. Later I noticed that I needed to enable essential fonts for my system, so I did that. BUT now when I start up my mail, it will start up slightly. It looks like it will start but I get the beach ball and it keeps turning and never starts up. The only way I can use my mail is to have the Font Book application opened. If I quit mail and start it up again, it will not work. I can only start up Mail, when I have Font Book up. If I quit Font Book, Mail mail continue to work. It's almost like it needs a jump start from Font Book...
How can I fix this? Is there a particular font that is needed for Mail? Maybe the list of essential system fonts I got was incorrect...

Sorry, but I have to agree with the OP. There should be a switch, and perhaps the default for that switch should be as you stated, however it would be great to have the option there.
And anyway, with file sharing on (like most Macs on my uni network have, see attached), you can put anything in their drop boxes at any time. Airdrop is a simplified version of this, so why not have an always on option as well?
Waiting for a clever person to come up with hack. Perhaps it drains battery life in terms of the ad hoc feature of Airdrop. I dunno.

  • Din font won't display in pdf file since December update to version 11.0.10

I upgraded my Acrobat to version 11.0.10 just before the Christmas break. Din font is my corporate typeface and I used it yesterday to create an invoice in Mac Pages only to discover that I cannot view the pdf as the font won't display in Acrobat. And to add to the problem my clients who are using the same version of Acrobat are unable to view the font either on the pdf. It all worked fine before the upgrade.
What can be done to rectify the problem? I need to fix this asap.
This error message appears when I try and open the file "Cannot extract the embedded font 'DQPJNL+DIN-Medium'. S"
The DQPJNL bit changes depending on the file being opened but essential Din font won't display.

    Hi,
Please check if DIN font is embedded in your PDF by going to File > Properties > Fonts
If no, then you might need to go to 'Tools > Print Production > Preflight'
Then, open the PDF fixups section, click on Embed fonts fixup and choose 'Analyze and fix button'.
Please check and let me know if you are able to view the font now.
    Regards,
    Anubha

  • Fonts missing in Leopard

I have found that some of my Tiger fonts are now gone... like Trajan, one of my favorites---is nowhere to be found... not sure how to get it back. Any suggestions? Is there a site to download them from?
    David

I have found that some of my Tiger fonts are now gone... like Trajan, one of my favorites---is nowhere to be found... not sure how to get it back. Any suggestions? Is there a site to download them from?
Trajan isn't a Tiger font. Here is a list for reference.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301332
If not on the list, you must have added them yourself, so you'll need to get them wherever you got them before. You can use Google to search for them by name.

  • Classic environment problem in Tiger

I recently installed OS 10.4 and updated to 10.4.8. I had been using 10.2.8 and I was having no trouble with OS 9 or the classic environment. Today I tried to start up OS 9 and here are the messages.
    1. install Quick Time 6.0.3 or later
    2. Classic needs to update files in System Folder
    3. There is a problem with updating the Classic specific files
    4. Classic was unable to update it's files in System folder.
Do you have advice on how to update System Folder in OS 9 so I can open the system?
    17-inch flat panel iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi, Gail.
You might want to be sure you are running Mac OS 9.2.2 for Classic. A number of interesting Classic-related problems have been noted unless one is using that specific version of Mac OS 9 for Classic under Tiger. Essentially, Tiger requires Mac OS 9.2.2 for Classic.
If you're not using 9.2.2 for Classic you can find the relevant Mac OS 9 updates here.
    Good luck!

  • Typekit account for registered font folio owners

    Hi there,
I would like to request that owners of font folio be given a free permanent typekit account so that those purchased fonts can be used on the web as well as in images, and on physical media.
I purchased a single user licence of font folio 11 this year and it's hugely disappointing that I can't use these fonts on the web. Of course many companies will have paid thousands of pounds for font folio and they should clearly have full access to these fonts for web usage. I will soon be a freelance web designer and this would emmencly help myself and all the graphic/web designers out there.
I'm aware that Adobe have recenlty purchased typekit and that some of those fonts which we have received in font folio are now available in the service. I believe it sends out the wrong message that users who pirate Adobe's fonts and use them on the web with the @fontface method will continue to do so and people who have paid out a significant amount of money to legally use the fonts are being limited/penalised.
As a request can those users who have registered their font folio be given a free permanent typekit account?
Further to this is would be a fantastic service to have ALL of the font folio fonts available on typekit for the law obiding purchaser to use.
    Many thanks
    Phil

I've just signed up to have a look around typekit. It looks fantastic, however the fonts i want to use are not included in the free version.
My favourite fonts are ITC Avant Garde, Futura, Helvetica, Americana, Clarendon LT... I think most designers would appreciate some of these commonly used fonts. It would be nice to add some of these fonts to the typekit package.
So in summary there's already a service offering the tech - minus some essential design fonts. What about a typekit package called font-folio owners? This gives full access to all fonts that have been purchased. Probably worth mentioning while i'm here that I don't think designers are aware that a single user licence of font folio can be purchased. I phoned up Adobe direct to ask if you had any plans to release one, much to my surprise you'd just started offering the deal.
I don't think it would do any harm if you promoted the single user licence on adobe.com and typekit.com - from scouring the internet forums freelance designers are unaware and would love it.
Sorry about the manager comment, I didn't realise you were one. Since you have the influence to make this happen what about that font folio package on typekit or full access to professional typekit package?
Edit: Also just noticed a pre-existing feature of importing purchased fonts - maybe this method would be quicker and easier to implement a font folio option?
I'm excited about the potential of typekit now.
    Many thanks

  • System just freezes

I have a weird problem with my Powerbook. The computer will start up fine in the morning but after it runs for about 15 minutes, the System just locks up (Mac OS X 10.4.10). It has to be restarted in order to get past the system lock up. There are no crash logs or error reports that are created.
The PB has been faithful. But, this is puzzling.
No scratchy harddrive noise. It does not shut down. It just freezes.
I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this type of problem.
After it locks up the first time, it will restart only a few more times before it refuses to start up. When it has been off for a while, it will restart again and last for about 15 minutes.
If it is started as a target drive, I can get about 25 minutes before it locks up.
    Help please.

    Tony:
Sorry your luck did not hold out. Incidentally, the folder in the Trash was essentially user font caches, which are Trashed during Safe Boot in Tiger. These can sometimes cause hangups or other issues.
When your computer locks up again, note the time. After you restart go to Applications > Utilities > Console. Check the Console log to see exactly what was happening at the time of the lock up.
My guess is that the AHT will show nothing helpful. I think your issue is essentially software related. Of course, I cannot guarantee it, as I do not know that for sure. I will be interested to hear what you find out at the Apple Store.
    Cheers.

  • Why is my Photoshop CS4 crashing with Snow Leopard!?

IN an attempt to make my machine work faster, an employee at the apple store said I should upgrade to snow leopard and get more RAM.
    Snow Leopard upgrade--done.  version 10.6.2
RAM--ordered 2 more gigs from crucial, not installed yet.
    Hardware:
    Model Name: iMac
      Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 2 GB
      Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
      SMC Version (system): 1.30f1
    Software:
    Photoshop CS4 11.0.1
Since the upgrade I have had crash after crash in photoshop and bridge.  Other times PS freezes and I have to force quit.  My tools don't work properly.  The crashes happen so often and it is hard to tell what/ if any particular sequence of events make it occur.  I can only work in PS for a few minutes before a crash occurs anywhere between 0 and 12 minutes usually.  (inconvenient because i am a wedding album designer, PS is my only way to do my job.)
A few examples of frequent problems are:
--my free transform tool gives an error saying it can't perform because of a program error.
--my key shortcuts become unresponsive when trying to use them to change between tools, especially when using the zoom tool or the brushes
--marquis tool doesn't show up when i make a selection
--images do not open when i drag or double click them from bridge to PS
--after saving and closing an image PS becomes unresponsive and requires a force quit
--my latest crash was PS just quit with no warning, everything disappeared and the crash report appeared, I had just hit command+s to save when it happened.
Things I have done to attempt to fix:
--ran all updates that are posted on adobe and apple for both products.
--font management: FontExplorerXPro cleaned all but essential system fonts from the directories and cleaned font cashes in every place I knew to look for them
--i do not have the menlo font
--uninstalled all Adobe products (unregistered, deleted preference files, used Appzapper, and then used the adobe uninstaller, then all remaining folders from adobe were thrown away and trash emptied, computer rebooted.) **this is just the most recent attempt at uninstall and reinstall, the first time i just used the adobe uninstaller which clearly did not actually remove the program and all files.  annoying.  regardless, after each reinstall, the problems continued as if nothing had been done.
--i do not use 3rd party plug-ins to my knowledge (how would I know?  could these be installed without me intentionally doing it?
I have attached my most recent crash report to this.
i need this to work.  this machine and program were far too expensive to be making my life this miserable.  Especially when the upgrade was recommended by apple. and adobe's site had no major issues to report about snow leopard.  the fact that work that should have taken 4 hours has taken me about 2 days to accomplish between crashes is a rather major issue to me.  as is the fact that i have a $3000 piece of equipment on my desk that is virtually worthless right now.
    please help!

you have just worked a miracle in my life.  I did all of the suggestions this morning.  So far, so good, been running PS and bridge for 4 hours without a crash.  tools also seem to be working correctly.  i don't want to get too excited yet, but you might be my new favorite person in the world!
No, I didn't install rosetta with 10.6, at least not on purpose.  Best guess is that I had enabled rosetta to fix an issue i was having with PS3 last year, but I had forgotten how to turn it off and on.  I have been looking for that switch for days!  Thank you for pointing me in the right direction for that.  I had hoped that my attempts at uninstalling and reinstalling the CS would set everything back to default, but it didn't stop it from running in rosetta.  Rosetta is now off in PS and in the font manager.
I don't know about the PCC code thing, where do I find that information?  What does it mean?  I did change a few things in my PS preferences concerning the GPU settings because there was some speculation on other threads that the video card was causing crashs.  But I think I set that back to normal (enable open GL Drawings).  I don't know if the things I changed concerning that might have something to do with the PCC code stuff?
I think the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file in the user/library/preference folder might have been the golden ticket.  when i opened that preference folder there were all kinds of things from my old PS3 in there too.  I dumped all of those and rebooted.  I have been wondering why after repeated uninstalls PS4 still had seemed to remember stuff from previous installations and also from my old PS3. (which I thought I had completely uninstalled prior to installing the creative suite 4--it was not an upgrade).  it annoyed to say the least that it retained memory of the old programs.  Now I wonder what else might need dumped out of that folder.  Should I be checking that folder for particular things periodically?
When you say clean all caches, where do I find them?  the font manager cleans the font caches, but other than that, I don't know where to look for other caches or how to actually clean them out.
Thank you so much for answering my questions/frustration.  You have saved my sanity--and my computer from taking a two story plunge to the pavement.  you're awesome!

  • Adobe Reader preferences issue, text stretched and zoomed in.

I have a user with Adobe Reader 11.0.2 installed and cannot change his preferences and always receives a "Screen reader" prompt when opening a PDF.  The window is stretched accross the screen and the only way to close it is Tab - Enter.  The preferences are the same way, theres no way to check the settings because the window is too zoomed in and the text is too large. I have already tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, deleted all the folders and reg keys to do a clean install as well as under multiple profiles. Same issue each time.  Has anyone else seen this issue?
    Any advice would be great.

I believe I have seen this where an essential Windows font is removed.

  • Incorrect Print Driver?

Recently, we began having problems printing a barcode label through a SATO printer.  Essentially, the font is wrong, causing the barcode to be unreadable.
Basically, whenever we RDP from Win7 or a thin client (I say newer, but we have only tested on one), we seem to be getting the wrong print driver for our SATO printer. I tried searching around to find out how RDP decides what driver/settings to use, but have
    not had much luck.
We have tried the following scenarios:
    Print directly from XP: works
    Print directly from Win7: works
Print through Citrix from XP: works
Print through Citrix from Win7: works
Print through Citrix on thin client: works
Print through RDP from XP: works
Print through RDP from Win7: fails
Print through RDP from thin client: fails
Print through Citrix from thin client (Same one): works
What could cause this behavior, and how do I fix it? Not using RDP is not an option.
    Update:
I tested at my local site with a thin client, and it works.  So now, one site's thin clients do not work, while another's do.

At my site, the server is running Windows 2008 R2.
The printer is not redirected.  It is a shared printer installed on the print server (or in the testing scenario shared from my laptop, but same results).  Regardless, any way I look at it, the driver is SATO CL412e.  When I go into the About
tab I see the same version and build number as well.
This is why it is confusing.  From everything I know to check, the print driver is exactly the same.  However, the behavior definitely is not.  How is it that when I RDP from my laptop (Win7) it somehow uses what appears to be a bold font,
but when I do so from literally any other scenario it is correct?  In the case of the other site, even the thin client is incorrect (same behavior as Win7 RDP to server).
