Even logon distribution using load balancing

We are trying to scale our system to distribute logons across multiple app servers. We have setup Logon groups and have set MSHOST in our connection configurations but since all logon's occur at roughly the same time, they all end up going to the same app server. We have 40 connections and ideally would want 20 to go to server A and 20 to go to server B, so that when each logon has work to do, the load gets evenly distributed.
We have tried modifying the threshold value for each app server in the logon group but that has had no impact.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Logon group should work fine if there is difference in login time by at least 5 minutes.
SAP calculates the best server for dialog logon by determining the quality of a particular server. It gives weightage to number of users and response time of dialog in a ratio 5:1 and then calculates the quality of the server. This information gets updated in every 5 mins. User at a particular time are assigned to the best server ( according to quality).
When all the users are moving to the same server, you can check what is the quality of a particular server.
SMLG-->F5 ( Goto>Load Distribution) and SMLG--->F6(Message server status area). Check if the current logon instance is changing with time. If that is changing then your logon groups working...If not then then raise a OSS message to SAP.
Even if your logon grp working but you are unable to get the advantage,
you can set up multiple logon group with different app server. Like GRP1 will have App1, APP2  then GRP2 will have App3, App4 and so on and then ask your user to use different logon grp.
One more thing, what is the auto_logout setting is your system? if users frequently login and then after work log off they can get the best effor in terms of logon group.
Waiting for further details from you

  • TMS RFC using load balancing in HA system

    Hello all,
I have configured the TMS in my system (report TMS_MGR_LOADBALANCING) to use load balancing while communicating with the QA and the PROD systems which are HA systems.
By default, the user group SPACE was used for the RFC. Is there a way to change the user group that the RFC uses?
    Regards,

    Hi Matt,
Thanks. I did read this note when looking for a way to change the logon group. Since I did not find there any hint how to change it, I thought maybe someone else already found a way without rewriting the report. Appearantly there isn't...

  • Windows 7: Service unknown when using load balancing group

I try to run SAP GUI 7.10 on Windows 7. I use a load balancing group to connect to the server. The direct access to one of our cluster nodes works ok, but when clicking the link to the load balancing group says "load balancing error on logon 88: connection to messaging server not possible (rc=9)" (translated from german).
What is happening here? It works good on Windows XP. Do I have to use another saplogon.ini or something?
    Thanks for any help!

Is it ok to deactivate UAC in a company?
That's something your M$ group must decide.
It sounds like a good security feature but as we see here it´s a pain in the @$$ for administrators...
Well - the purpose of it is to disable the ability of malware and virusses spreading around. I consider it as a security breach if a local user is able to simply copy files to the operating systems main directory. A user working with a frontend PC should not have local administrator rights at all; all software requiring this badly designed.
If you use the SAPGUI installation server you can distribute services, saplogon.ini etc. using the installation server provided service without the need of users having to have local administration rights:
Note 512040 - Distributing "services", "saplogon.ini", and similar files.
I just think that "administrators" must learn to do work properly as designed with operating systems without just "copying files around" in system directories (and I don't exclude me in that context).

  • SmartView connections using load balancing

Is there a way to create a connection in SmartView to the Planning application that uses the load balancing functionality? When we log into the Planning web application we have a connection that provides load balancing between the 2 Planning servers. It appears that the only connection you can provide in SV for Planning is a direct connection to a web server like this: http(s)://<servername>:8300/HyperionPlanning/SmartView.

I did a second look at my configuration and it actually looks like Workspace is the only Smartview connection that I have load balanced. For Planning, once connected to the Hyperion Provider Service URL the Planning applications show under the Common Provider Connections. The Planning connections point to the URL of the APS.....which is just like what you use. http://servername:8300/HyperionPlanning/SmartView
Reading through the EPM High Availability Guide, it appears that it can be done for APS but it seems that might no longer support Planning:
The following list specifies supported clustering methodologies for EPM System product and components (with sublists for components) and options for removing single points of failure from the architecture and maintaining consistent performance through load balancing.
Oracle Essbase—Clustering with Oracle Hyperion Provider Services for high availability and load balancing

    Clustering with Provider Services
If Essbase is clustered with Provider Services and no third-party tool:
    - Smart View must be used rather than an Excel add-in.
    - Essbase has no write-back capability and should be used for reporting only; therefore, Oracle Hyperion Planning, Fusion Edition is not supported.
    - Nodes must be loaded and calculated individually.

  • Error using load balancer in ebusiness suite R12

    Hi
Has any one used Cisco 11503 load balancer in their ebusiness implementation
we have upgraded a customer instance from 11i10cu2 to 12.0.6. we have configured the R12 instance for load balancer as per metalink note 380489.1
when we access the ebusiness suite, we hit the issue as mentioned below:
You cannot complete this task because one of the following events caused a loss of page data. Possible Causes:
You have left your login session idle past the timeout period. A system failure has occurred. The application server is incorrectly configured and does not send a session cookie to the client browser. If you were testing in JDeveloper: JDeveloper OC4J process did not fully shut down before restarting the application. You closed one of the Internet Explorer browser windows while the request is being processed in another Internet Explorer window. Closing an Internet Explorer window causes OC4J to expire a user session. OC4J XML files in your JDeveloper user home system directory have been modified or corrupted.
as per many metalink notes, this may occur due to load balancer ..example note : 755825.1
we have then removed load balancer setting from the applications context file (xml file) and issue doesnt occur.
so issue seems to be with load balancer setting, however we couldnt find any doc which mentions setting for Cisco 11503 load balancer
we saw notes for Bigip and cisco ACE load balancer in metalink 601694.1
Customer is also unable to help here .. as to what setting needs to be changed
    Can someone kindly advise

Have you opened a case with Cisco to see if they can help ? Has persistence been enabled on the load balancer ? Is there some kind of timeout enabled on the balancer ? I do not know much about load balancers, but the settings should be somewhat similar across all of them. See if these docs help

  • Relaying using Load Balancer

    Hi
Two node Exchnage 2010 DAG. All server roles on the same boxes.
CAS high availability using Cisco load balancer.
We have some applications they are relaying using Exchange 2010 Hub. They are configured using the vip of the load balancer.
The problem is, that they are unable to relay to external recipients, internal is no problem. Using the Hub directly works fine.
    What could be the problem?
    Regards
    Peter

For those who still monitor this thread,
The issue here is that the HLB is not configured to Use Source IP.  In the Netscaler world, this is configured on a device or load balancer level and is referred to as USIP.  (Use Source IP)  If Source IP is not configured, the HLB will pass
the traffic to Exchange using the HLB's interface.  You can configure this IP as an allowed IP address on your relay connector, but this is a big security risk as previously stated because all traffic that is routed through the HLB has rights to relay.
Concerning the network guy in PeterN22's post, open connections can be a problem and can cause port saturation if you are using an (*) as a wildcard on your RPC load balancing service.  I have had much better luck, across all my load balanced deployments
(Citrix, Kemp, Cisco, etc.), when I use static port assignments on all load balanced services.  For example:
    SMTP - 25
    RPC - 59532
    OAB - 59533
    HTTPS - 443
    POP - 110
    etc.
Exchange 2013 load balancing is now stateless and doesn't rely on Source IP, but this same issue with SMTP will occur if Source IP is not used.  I know this is a recap of some of the other posts, but hopefully the additional information is helpful for
someone who may come across this post.

  • Errors when scheduling scenarios for agents using load balancing

    Hi,
I have set up my ODI environment and have successfully manged to:
    * run scenarios manually in development repository
    * schedule scenarios and run on execution repository with one agent.
However when I try to set up a second agent to load balance the scenarios I get the following error below.
It seems to be a load balancing problem because I can run the scenario's successfully in every other case.
I am running an oracle RAC database. (2 servers, one oracle instance on each). I have set up one ODI agent on each server and I am trying to load balance between these 2 agents.
In topology I have set up 1 logical agent. Physical agent 1 is linked to itself and also to Physical Agent 2 under the load balancing tab.
For my scenario's I have 2 master scenarios (which are the ones scheduled) that call a number of other scenarios in the correct order.
    Could anyone assist me please?
    Thanks,
    Matthew

    Hi,
I'm wondering whether there may be a design flaw in the way our scenario's have been created / are executed.
Currently we have x number of scenarios executed by a x master scenario.
There are also y number of scenarios executed by a y master scenario.
These master scenarios are the ones scheduled against the agent and they call the "sub-scenarios".
We experience the above error when one of the "sub-scenarios" of a master scenario is executed on a different agent to where the master scenario is executed.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • System Using Load Balancing

    Hi gurus,
we have to do sso to ECC through portal
we have ECC system with three instance ,i am going for  creating SAP System using Load Blancing,
what is the value of server port should i enter.
    regards
    K Naveen Kishore.

The server port is often maintained by system administrators on the local PC in the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\services file. The system server port is entered into the file as sapms<SID>.
Check the services file on your computer and see if there is any entry for sapms<SID>. If this entry is maintained, you can put sapms<SID> in your System properties.
You can also choose to enter the tcp port number of your application server or message server here.
The value is generally 3600 or 3601.

  • RFC Sender (XI 3.0, SP14) Load Balancing doesn't work

    Hi all,
We're "desperately" trying to use the Load Balancing option of RFC Sender Adapter (XI 3.0, SP14). It doesn't work.
The Adapter can not register to the sender SAP server. But when we do not use the "Load Balancing" option, everything works well.
We did follow the XI guidelines step-by-step. All necessary configurations in XI and in SAP sender system (TA: SM59) are "properly" done and reviewed by different experts several times.
Do you have, by chance any running scenario using "Load Balancing" within a RFC Adapter? If yes, I would appreciate if you can share it with me.
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Khaled

    Hello Khaled,
the RFC sender adapter registers a program at the SAP Gateway. Load Balancing for the Sender Adapter means, that you have at least two J2EE server nodes within your XI installation. On all these server nodes the same RFC sender adapter is started and register the same program at the same gateway. The load balancing is then handled by the gateway. That means, that for the sender adapter the settings are the same, even if you use load balancing or not.
    The settings are, e.g.
    - SID=ABC
    - hostname=abchost (central instance, message server)
    - hostname=xyzhost (additional dialog instance of ABC)
    - instance nr=00
    application server (gateway): xi1host
    application server service (gw-service): sapgw00
programm id: could be freely choosen
The Metadata Repository could be connected using load balancing. Here a user need to log on to the system.
    The settings here must be:
    Message-Server: abchost
    Message-Server-Service: sapmsABC
    System-ID: ABC
Logon-Group: e.g. PUBLIC; this logon group need to be created in system ABC using transaction SMLG
For the RFC-Receiver Adapter the same settings as for the Metadata could be used.
Keep in mind, that for the RFC Sender Adapter a RFC connection of type T must be created in transaction SM59 in system ABC.
    Rgds.,
    Andreas

  • Load balancing using multiple default routes

    Hi Guys,
I just want to ask does creating multiple default routes on my router provides load-balancing on my WAN side? As far as i know, for example if I have two default routes on my router and let say I have two users connecting to the internet, the first one might go to the first WAN link while the second user might go to the second WAN link.
    Thank you so much
    Rex

there are the difference between, load balancing and load sharing..which we need to understand.
load sharing means you have 2 users, user A and User B, user A wants to use ISP1 and user B wants to use ISP2. this is called load sharing. and can be achieved via PBR (Policy based routing).
we should not try to use load balancing for Internet traffic with 2 different ISPs.

  • Using the load balancing on SAP

    Hello,
wa have different SAP job chains using ABAP scripts and we would like that this scripts use the SAP application server because they run under DBCI and this is not correct.
We found that the SAP script use a specific "execution target". This should not be so. The execution target should be blank for using load balancing.
In the init jcs file, the parametetr "sheduler_hostname" and "sheduler_fqdn" are positionned with the hostname of the Redwood SAP Agent. Should this be modified ?
    thanks.

    Hi,
It looks like you have Load balancing enabled from CPS (it is enabled by default). To switch of load balancing go in the Redwood registry in the Redwood Explorer (Configuration->Environment->Registry->PUBLIC->RSI-><SAP instance>) and look for the value at parameter LoadBalancing. You can switch this of (set to N) and restart the RFC agent for this instance. Now the execution target will be left empty.

  • SMLG load balance

    Dear Experts,
We are using logon groups for load balance. Logon quality is used to determine the next logon server.
We want to change this algorith with something like round robin. Each dialog instance should accept one user so user count will be identical on all dialog instances.
    Any way to perform this?
    best Regards

    Dear Sez .
I am not sure about changing the algorithm to round robin as desired but we can improve poor distibution of user.
    ++++++++++++
RSRZLLG0 is the report that updates the data used by SMLG. RSRZLLG0
itself is called by SAPMSSY6 which is an automatically started report (aso-called 'autoabap', which will be started all five minutes. Or, to be
more exactly, will be started at the interval that is given in the
    parameter rdisp/autoabaptime (default 300 seconds).
Please go to transaction SMLG, and than goto -> load distribution.
There you will see a response time of the individual application
    servers.
    1. Assign Heavy transaction user groups to the servers with more
computing power and memory. This will ensure that even if these users use the resource concurrently, they will not face performance issues
    to a greater extent.
    2. Estimating the optimum value for response time and logged in users is Difficult. But you can definitely base these values on the average
response of the server that is acceptable to the users and they can
work comfortably without performance issues. The number of users can
be based upon the situations that you have faced when :
    a) n Number of users were logged in and the performance of the server was acceptable.
    b) y Number of users were logged in and users started complaining
    about the server response.
The limits that we discussed do influence the algorithm for load
balancing to some extent. But at the same time we cannot fully influencethe same. However you can try to implement the changes and further fine
tune the limits as per requirements.
Due to the large fluctuations in response times for each instance
then you should consider the changes in the logon load balancing
algorithm of note #51789 (Poor user distribution in logon distribution)
to give more weighting to the users than response time than default
for Quality values in SMLG to get more equal load balancing between
    the instances.
Hope this information may / may not help you
    Rgds

  • Discussion on load-balance and load-sharing

Hi, I found a article, which discuss the difference between load-balance and load-sharing. I think the explanation is pretty good, please see below. But I still have a question: how can we decide to choose one the both balance in the production environment ?  Thank you
"In short, load balancing tries to distribute traffic evenly over multiple paths, whereas, load sharing intends to do it (for the lack of a better term) equally.  True load balancing is difficult to achieve.  For example, let's say there were two links (100 mbps and 300 mpbs) and a router needed to send out 600 mbps of traffic.  Load balancing would distribute the traffic evenly, sending 300 mbps on each link.  On the contrary, load sharing would divide the traffic equally based on the available resources, sending 200 mbps on the slower link and 400 mbps on the faster one. That's not how Cisco uses the terms, and generically they are often used almost interchangeably.
Cisco uses load balancing as the catch all for how a single L3 device routes across multiple paths to the same destination.  Equal metrics or equal actual load distribution are not required.  Most often, load balancing will be discussed with ECMP, but unequal path loading balancing will include Cisco's proprietary IGPs, such as EIGRP.
Cisco uses load sharing when using multiple paths when a single L3 devices doesn't normally route across multiple paths or multiple L3 devices are involved.  Cisco load sharing discussions usually revolve around BGP.
Generically, I would say load balancing has more of a dynamic aspect to it, i.e. something is trying to actively balance traffic across multiple paths, while load sharing might mean multiple paths are utilized but not actively dynamically balanced.
I'm unsure what's your question with a production environment.

  • Configuring RFC connections for load balancing.

    Hi ,
We have the following landscape for our systems.
The database is installed on z/os , db2 (mainframe). The central services( SCS and ASCS) are also on the mainframe. So the message server is on mainframe.
The CI is on AIX and The DI is on AIX.
We have Logon groups configured and load balancing Configured and is RFC enabled.
    1) When we connect to SAP using the SAPGUI and  the portal connection is made to either CI or DI depending upon the best response times.  Now recently we are running the mercury load testing, all the users are connecting to DI. Why are the users connecting to DI even though we have load balancing?
    2) I have a system with SID BP0, with one CI and one DI. The logon group is BP0 and the message server name is cyrix. Now I have other another system EP0. I have created a RFC connection from EP0 to BP0. In SM59 I have selected the load balancing option, and provide the message server name, SID and logon group name. The connection does not work. If I connect directly to the CI or DI the connection works. Please tell me how can I configure load balancing for RFC connections.
    Thanks
    Manmath.

    Dear 917996,
There are two types of load balancing:
    - Client-side load balancing (setting up the tnsnames.ora on client side). More information here (http://ggsig.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/client-side-
load-balancing-in-oracle.html). Very good video produced my friend Igor Melnikov is here (http://www.dsvolk.ru/oracle/racdd4d/demos/video/loadbalance/client/clientloadbalance_viewlet_swf.html)
-Server-side load balancing (remote_listener and setting service parameter clb_goal). Very good Igor Melnikov's video is here (http://www.dsvolk.ru/oracle/racdd4d/demos/video/loadbalance/server/serverloadbalance_viewlet_swf.html).
I have read about client side and server side load balancing. By editing tnsnames.ora I have enabled client side load balancing which is suppose to select listeners at random. then why does it only go to second node?Could you please show your tnsnames.ora on client?
Please can anyone help me to configure server side load balancing with SCAN. I have read many many post but couldn't find a clear answer.Based on your output (remote_listener string cmbtrnrac-scan:1521) you have already configured the server side load balancing.
    SQL> show parameter listener
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    listener_networks string
    local_listener string (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(AD
    DRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=10.1
    7.67.214)(PORT=1521))))
remote_listener string cmbtrnrac-scan:1521How many SCANs do you use? Do you use DNS?
