Event handeling variable changes. Is this possible?
Hey,
I'm working on a java-beans project and I am trying to come to find a way to signal an event when a variable changes. Basically looking for a way to constantly send the refreshing data to the listener bean.
I can easily get it to work send the data with pushing a button but this is supposed to monitor a constantly changing temperature and send it to the listener bean.
Any ideas?

Example of what I'm talking about
I have a simple value object named Person. Not directly inherited from anything.
Has one variable. firstName : String;
When the firstName variable gets changed, the setter creates a new DispatchEvent object and dispatches a new event. It does this without any runtime errors. Back in the MXML, I want the MXML's Application to be what registers the event, NOT the Person object. In fact, it can't because I didn't inhert from the DispatchEvent class.
I've provided both the custom class and the MXML. I've kept it as bare bones and as simplistic as possible to get my intent across.

All the examples I've seen would have the Person class inherit from the DispatchEvent class, then back in the MXML you'd have something like this

I get that, but not what I'm trying to acheive here. I just want the Person object to dispatch the event and have someone else be able to listen for the "firstNameChange" event. Is this possible?

The fact there is even a discussion on the topic gives you an idea of how powerful the language is (compared to other sandboxed client-side instruction sets). Architecturally, anything is possible. Hell, you could even write your own byte code interpreter if you wanted...
To get back to the original question, what you are looking for is a standardized way to get classes to communicate with each other, yes? This is usually done through a framework, or various design patterns. Pick whichever method your are comfortable with given your past programming experiences. -
I have 2 calendars set up for my work schedule, a "night shift" and "day shift" calendar. I've set up repeating events fro Fri/Sat/Sun 3-11pm "night shifts" and Mon/Tues 7am-3pm "day shifts". But lets say for example that I swap shifts and instead of working nights on Saturday like I normally would, I am now working days. I want to change that in my calendar. When I go to change the event, if i change the TIME it asks if i want to change all event or ONLY this event. no problem....just this single event. but when i go to change the event from the "night shift" calendar to the "day shift" calendar, it changes ALL the repeating events, and not just that one single event. can anyone help with this??? am i doing something wrong? is there a way to do this or not with the new iCal program??? i used to do this and never had any problems. Thank you!
You need to follow iPhoto terms since we only know what you tell us
what are you calling folders - in iPhoto folders can not hold photos - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
The basic default view of photo is by event (iPhoto '08 and later)

With newest IOS7, installed this morning, can no longer change just one time, a recurring event-like a monthly meeting. It used to ask if i want to change for this event only, or for all the events. How else can you change the time "just this once" and leave the other times alone?
no-turns out the only problem is taking the event from an "all day" event that repeats, to one with a time, if time is only for the one event this year. Do all repeating events either need to be for the entire day, or for a time-but cannot change an all day event, to one with a time only for this event.
I have the "all day" for the annual event so I don't forget to take care of this, but this year I want to give it a time so it is more prominant on the calendar. Only wanted it at a specific time this year, and want it to stay "all day event" in the future.
I think the only way to fix is to make a new event just this year and give it a time, then keep the recurring event as as "all day".
Not a big deal-thought it was a bigger problem than it turns out to be. -
I want to delete songs from iTunes Match by unchecking them in my iTunes library on my Mac. Is this possible? If so, how do I change the necessary setting(s) in iTunes or iTunes Match?
I have seen this page, but it seems that this involves deleting songs from my iTunes library in order to remove them from iTunes Match. I want to keep them in my iTunes library, but not in iTunes match (I am over my limit for songs in iTunes Match, and would like to decide which songs to keep in iTunes Match).

I recently lost my iphone 4 and have an iphone3 on loan until I get upgrade in Aug. I want to sync my data - contacts most important - from my itunes account...is this possible? Is it possible to change the user ID on the borrowed phone to my ID?
There are no contacts in itunes.
Your contact should be on your computer in whatever program you have selected to sync. Just sync them to the new one.

I don't know what's wrong with my Mac Mozilla Firefox, version 3.6.8, but today, it started alerting me about an error message on the "Error Console". In every website I visit, it tells me: "The 'charCode' property of a keyup event should not be used. The value is meaningless." Is this possibly caused by a virus?
I saw a pop-up which did not allow me to click it when I scatter the windows on my Mac. I was using Private Browsing, with pop-ups disabled, but one pop-up managed to get passed my settings, and open in another window. It would not allow me to select it, so all I did was to close Firefox, and start a new session. So far, everything has been normal, I also deleted the cookies it installed.
But, I still keep seeing that "Error Console" notice under my "Tools" on the Menu Bar, and when I clicked on it, it listed errors (such as what I listed above).
Would someone explain this to me?
Thanks for your help!The messages you see in the Error Console are mostly to assist the web site's author in resolving compatibility problems. Some of them can assist you in determining why a web site doesn't work as intended. The one you mentioned doesn't sound that suspicious, except that it occurs on many sites. Perhaps one of your add-ons is trying to monitor what you type?
To diagnose whether this is caused by an add-on or one of your settings, you could try the following:
First, make a backup of your computer for safekeeping. To back up Firefox, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information].
Next, try starting Firefox in Firefox
[http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.
Does that resolve the errors? If so, then an add-on usually is the culprit. If not, try creating a new (blank) profile: [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles Managing profiles].
If the new profile works correctly, you can choose between further research on your old profile or moving key settings like bookmarks from your old profile to the new one. I have an iPod touch that I often use to manage different events for work. I have been able to sync the events on my calendar from my MacBook Pro to the iPod touch successfully using wifi. What I really need to do though is sync my iPod calendar events to my MacBook Pro calendar. Is this possible? How do I set this up? It would be a huge help if I could transfer the events on my iPod calendar to my computers calendar. I currently have the wifi sync option on and have turned on the sync calendars option in iTunes. I want to keep the pages above the section break as portrait, and the ones below I want to change into landscape. Is this possible? I can only get it to be one or the other but not both.
The work around is to do two documents, one in portrait format and one in landscape format. When finished export to Pdf. open in Preview by select both files and use Cmd + O or doubleclick. You can now in Previews thumbnail column the pages from one document into the other and then save.
If you have created only one with i.e. all pages in portrait format but with the content for the landscape pages rotated on the pages, you can rotate the pages in Preview. Two ways to get the same result. -
I want to order files (e.g., photos) in a particular order (not necessarily an order that is an option in MacOS. Ie, my own custom order, and I want them STAY in that order until I change the order. Is this possible?
Custom sort order is not a typical option in the list view of any desktop computing systems I know of. The way you're seeing it work is also how it works in Windows and other systems.
There is no "None" sort order. What you're seeing is a "None" option under "Arrange By." Arranging is not the same as sorting; arranging is how the files are grouped in the window. For example, you can arrange (group) files by Kind while sorting by Name. You'll notice that if you are in List view and you choose Arrange By "None," in the window there is still a sort triangle next to the column name that it's sorting by.
If Arrange is set to None, the files appear in one big group (the traditional view) that is controlled by the Sort order (where there is no None option).
I didn't even know the difference between Sort and Arrange until I saw your question and did a little research! This Macworld article helped:

As for your main question, how to do a custom sort order in the Finder, you can only rearrange files manually in Icon view. As with other operating systems, if you want to create a custom sort order for photos there are other ways:
Use a photo organizer application like iPhoto or Lightroom. Some let you have custom sort orders in folders, but others only let you have a custom sort inside a different container like an "album" or "collection". Having those additional container types is part of why photos are often best managed in an organizer application and not on the desktop.
Rename the files. You can use a renaming utility program to rename the photos with numbers that will enforce your sort order when sorted by name on the desktop, like

I'm not clear on exactly what it is you're asking, but if you're referring to changing opacity, you can change the opacity setting for the States of a menu item via the States panel and Control Strip.

I would like to copy pictures stored in Events in iPhoto '11 on my iMac to my MacBook Pro which is running iPhoto '09. Is this possible without losing the organization of the Events?
Only way to do it:
Export each Event to folders in the Finder from the iPhoto 11 machine, copy those folders to the 09 machine. Import them.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
