Ever Calculating Battery

So last night, when I took my computer off the power chord, I had my computer on for a while and it still had the (Calculating...) thing beside it.
Now, I was tired and not paying attention much so I just turned it off and went to bed.
I was working on a PowerPoint for my mom for mother's day yesterday night so this morning, when I woke up, I turned on my computer again to show it to her. I had it on for a while before she even saw it but then I turned it off right after I used the PowerPoint. It still said (Calculating...), but I figured it was just because I was using a full screen application and couldn't see the battery until I closed the PowerPoint and I turned the computer off right after I used it so I didn't give it enough time to calculate.
However, now I've been using my computer for a good hour or so and the (Calculating...) thing is still there next to my battery symbol.
What does this mean? How do I get it to stop doing this?
I can still check the battery life by clicking the button on the side of my computer, but it's slightly annoying to not know exactly how much time I have.

Not right now it's not because I don't have it in. I meant that it has the (Calculating...) thing up when it's NOT charging. Last time I charged it, the chord was all the way in though and it had the amount of time left.

  • Macbook Pro (Non-Retina) Battery Life

Just recently purchased a non-retina MacBook Pro, 13" with the upgraded i7 processor.  So far, it's lots of fun, just one small question/concern...
Does the battery life really suck on this one, or is it just mine that possibly needs service?
The estimated remaining battery time keeps fluctuating, which is understandable, which attempting to constantly calculate; however, I score perhaps three hours of life using only web (Safari) and iTunes (transferring songs to/from iPhone, etc.)  I haven't even installed my Adobe CS collection yet, and I'm afraid it'll constantly be glued to the wall adaptor, thus defeating the purpose of an expensive, beautiful laptop.
Anyone believe this to be common, uncommon, or bizarre perhaps?  I've got AppleCare, of course, so worst case scenario, I create a TM backup and send in for inspection/repair

There is an authorized Apple store not far from me, but I've only seen one technician there ever, and they'd most likely send it out for service or something anyways.
Any web browser I have attempted to use (Safari, Firefox, and especially Chrome,) is listed under "Apps Using Significant Energy.." though Firefox and Safari have only stated that when more than one tab is open, doing searches.  Chrome states that upon opening the app- weird.
There is no constant video streaming, only videos on occasion, likely via YouTube; all that's one with iTunes is syncing with the external hard drive that houses the files, backups, and playing music- no iTunes Radio, Podcasts, or of the sort.  Also, iTunes (almost) never shows in the Significant Energy column- only seen it there maybe once.
When using the computer, I see the calculated battery life jump from seven, to five, to three something... which reminds me more of my ancient PowerBook. haha.  There has been nothing done so far other than small, meddling tasks- non-significant sized file downloading, occasional video, and the bulk of it just retooling the iTunes library- still restoring it from scratch
I just want to be certain that there's no significant energy usage hidden here.  This machine has the 2.9ghz i7, with maxed 16gb RAM- would that differ anything from the original spec models that people test and claim to have some solid battery life? (I don't mean the new Retina or Air models)  It seems fine when I unplug it from the wall, but drains quicker than expected.  Once I start drawing and editing, I'd like for this machine to last more than an hour

  • How reliable is the Battery Status Indicator?

I have had my MacBook Pro for a month now, and I don't know if I can trust my battery status indicator a the top of the MacOSX screen
It usually goes a lot shorter than the indicated percentage or the calculated battery life time.
I have another issue with this MBP.
Has anyone actually been able to use MBP for as close to 5 hours which is the battery life posted on the apple website?
I set my MBP to lowest backlight, no programs or widgets running, wireless and bluetooth off and kept it one for hours. The battery lasted a about 3hours and 49 minutes. Is there something wrong with this battery?

As you use your MBP on battery it collects information on your battery usage style and uses that to predict battery run times. based on that it's reasonable accurate providing you calibrate your battery ever 4-8 weeks or so. Also, the data it collects the more accurate it can predict your battery time.
Once you start using your MBP differently though the accuracy can vary but should still remain "reasonably" accurate.
I personally find the times reasonably accurate altough for the most part I run off the percentage rather than time.
Has anyone actually been able to use MBP for as close to 5 hours which is the battery life posted on the apple website?
No-one will ever get 5 hours. As you note from the specs it's "based on usage" or more to the point, it's non-usage. Those time are achieved by having it on my not being "used".
Average battery times should range from 2.5-4 hours depending on your actual usage.

  • Appalling Q10 battery life

I've been having problems with the battery life on my Q10 for several months, and is continuing to get worse. I've had absolutely no success with offical BlackBerry help, so I'm coming here as a last resort before I finally jump ship and get an Android phone.
My problem has been that my Q10 has been unable to make it to the end of the day with NO use except for BBMing my wife, a bit of email and some light web browsing. I don't run any apps in the background that don't run at default when I boot up the Q10. I've tred disabling wifi and all the other suggestions here: http://docs.blackberry.com/es-es/smartphone_users/deliverables/50635/als1342451670263.jsp
I thought it might have been the patchy coverage from AT&T (I was running 10.1) so I jumped ship to T-mobile, and installed 10.2.1.2156. This seemed to help for around 2 days and now it's worse than ever - my battery will not even make it far past lunch time now. I bought a couple of new batteries and I get through the day by swapping betwene three of them. Using a brand-new battery, this is from when I unplugged my phone from the charger this morning:
I'm not sure what left to try - could it be a fault in the device itself? 10.2.1.2156 seemed to solve my woes when I installed in on Saturday, but something weird happened to my phone on Tuesday: everything in the phone reacts very sluggishly, as if I was running hundreds of apps in the background. BBM won't open a message from the hub, I have to go through the BBM icon. Using device monitor, I see that 'Standby' is what seems to be devouring my battery. My phone seems to be killing itself doing something, but I've no idea what.
I'm using an SQN100-1 (bought almost as soon as it came out) - if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, they would be gratefully received. Swapping batteries around all day is ridiculous, and the delays in the phone are making me seriously eye up a Samsung Galaxy. I love my physical keys, but I also need a phone that can meet the basic requirements of functioning all day...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Nope, I only have the default apps installed. Had a look and can't see BB travel. I've found this thread in the forums:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Battery-Drain-with-10-2-0-42...
My system process is burning through 50 to 70% usage on my CPU. I think this is what is killing my phone. My wife is currently in hospital with a complicted pregnancy so I could get 'the call' at any moment. I just put in a new battery, which my phone estimates will be dead in 5 hours. I can't afford to be out of phone contact at all at the moment, and I'd rather avoid having to go buy a new phone on the way home...

  • Can I buy a new battery somewhere?

Playbook is a great tool when it works, which is hardly ever.
Battery won't hold a charge and won't charge. Is there a place to buy a new battery or should I just chuck this thing and get in  iPad?

  • X61 battery life

I am yet another X61 customer who is extremely disappointed in the short battery life of this model.  Our company previously had 35 of the X30/X31 model, and all of those batteries lasted four to five years.  We now have 39 X61's.  Imagine my surprise when multiple users started notifying me that the batteries were dying after only 16-17 months of use.
Here's my question:  I have two users whose four-cell lithium ion enhanced batteries died after 16 months of use.  One user reports that he uses his laptop on battery power twice a day every workday during his train ride to and from work.  The other user reports that she rarely if ever uses battery power since she's in the office virtually all of the time.  Why did both batteries die within weeks of each other, when one had heavy use and the other had virtually no battery use?
My only consolation is that I located new generic Li-ion batteries from an eBay seller for less than half the price that Lenovo is asking, even at Lenovo's sale price.  I just ordered my first dozen; I'm sure I'll be ordering a couple dozen more in the coming months.

    Welcome to the forum!
While there are a few Lenovo employees roaming around in here helping out on a volunteer basis, this is not an official support channel. Instead, this is designed to be a user-to-user support and discussion forum. You may or may not get an answer directly from one of the Lenovo employees as there are way more of us than them and all of them, even Mark, have full-time jobs doing other things.
It's likely that no one who knows the answer to your question has seen it.  There are a number of variables to consider when trying to determine why a battery may have died.  How long is user #1's train ride, and what was the cycle count on it?  Did he drain the battery twice a day 5 days a week for 16 months?  User #2's battery was never used but stayed the notebook doing short cycles which tends to kill a battery.  On the other hand, she probably never lost any data during a power outage because the battery was there to keep the system running until she could gracefully power it off.
Notebook batteries are consumables just like the batteries in your car and flashlight, and usage patterns play a big part in how long they'll last.  The fact that these two died within a week of one another is probably just a fluke.

  • Is this considered a healthy battery? i only just got this MacBook Pro about 5 Months ago

    Battery Information:

      Firmware Version:          201
      Hardware Revision:          2
      Cell Revision:          158

This depends on what you are doing with the system. Try dimming the display half-way, and quitting all applications. Then wait a few minutes and see how much battery time is remaining. If it is still low, then try disabling Bluetooth and WiFi (turn the services off completely) to see if that changes the calculated battery life at all.

  • T61, battery and Trackpoint/touchpad quirks.

    Hi all,
I purchased a T61 back in the early part of 2008, I suppose it's been 7-8 months.  Overall I've been very pleased with the unit, but I currently have a couple of quirks:
Since the very beginning, upon startup my T61 will intermittantly not recognize the Trackpoint, touchpad, sometimes both, and very very occaisionally the keyboard.   For the most part it's fine, but when it acts up I have to reboot 1-3 times for everything to work.
My other problem is recent, within the last month.  Battery life has always been good until this point.  I was fiddling with the power management settings and came across the Battery Maintenance feature and performed a battery reset - ever since battery information claims my battery can store 11% of it's full charge capacity and it will last at most 15 minutes.  I don't mind having to replace a battery every so often, it's the nature of anything battery powered, but it seems from my perspective that the battery reset *caused* my battery life problem./
Any comments, constructive criticism, or encouraging words are appreciated.  Thanks,
    Joseph
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Just got the laptop back, so far it looks like everything's gone off without a hitch.  Total down time on my end: 3 days for basic depot warranty service.  I have friends who send off their HPs for weeks at a time, the laptop returns unfixed, and any time they speak to a customer service rep they are told their one year old laptop is outdated and the sales pitch on a new machine begins.
Thanks, guys.  I hope I can singlehanded sell fifty T-series for you, they are worth every penny.

  • Battery Guage stuck  On 95%

Any body Have any Ideas why my battery would register 95 % and never higher. next to the battery icon it continously says calculating.

Battery only charges to 100% once the power reserve falls below 94% or thereabouts. If it is any higher than that, it stays where it is even if the power cord is attached. So you don't have to worry.

  • Trackpad doesnot work when battery is charging

    Dear all,
I got a new macbook less than a month ago,
When ever my battery in on charge the trackpad doesnot work
    please help me

    http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
After downloading it and running the program, I got
16C or 60F. Which is clearly wrong. I quit the
program several times and got the same reading. I
even set the update time to a much shorter rate, and
still the same reading. A reboot of the system seems
to have fixed it temporarily. Its at 48C or 114F.
The program doesn't update the temperature for some
reason. Even running the Mac at near 100% CPU the
temperature monitor stays at 48C. Clearly this
doesn't work with the MBP yet. Regarding updating
every few seconds. You have to reboot to get new
    readings.
Thanks for giving me that link though.
I'm using it as we speak and I'm getting flawless results. I would check your installation and run a hardware check as well.

  • My Mac keeps restarting the initial setup process whenever I try to transfer files onto it?

My mac was having issues opening most of my applications, and the ones that it did open would just give me the spinning beach ball until I force quitted out of them. I brought it in to the genius bar and they ran some tests... but were unable to pinpoint the problem. However, earlier this year, I had the symptoms of a hard drive crash, and I was able to "fix" it by simply removing the hard drive from my computer, blowing on it, and putting it back in. I told the genius this, and she said that my symptoms were such that she wouldn't be surprised if it was the hard drive that was the problem. So I bought a new hard drive and an enclosure.
So then I set my mac up again and reinstall snow leopard, and I am trying to use migration assistant to transfer my files from my old hard drive (which, by the way, never officially crashed and was not turning up any suspicious readings on any of the tests ran on it). Migration assistant refused to work... I would wait for hours while it "calculated" the volume of the files I wanted to transfer... I didn't even get to hit the "transfer" button before MA freezed up, it was as soon as the first screen, the one where I selected which files I wanted to transfer, opened. The "settings" files were the only ones that ever calculated (171 KB), the "users," "applications," and "other files" all seemed to get caught in a loop and would never calculate.
So I decided that maybe MA is the problem and that I should try to transfer my files using set up assistant. I went back to the genius bar to have my mac wiped and snow leopard 10.6.8 downloaded again. This time, when I was going through the set up procedure, I clicked the "transfer files from another volume on this mac" button (whereas last time I ignored this step to use MA), but AGAIN, I am brought to the "calculation" page that fails to calculate. Only this time, it only bothers to calculate for about 45 seconds before the screen blacks out and I am brought to the beginning of the set up process (the "use English for the main language" part). At first, it used to play the start up video too, but now it just brings me to the language screen.
Anyways, I am about ready to tear my eyebrows out. All I want to do is transfer my stupid files. Does anyone know why my mac keeps starting the set-up process over/how I can make set up assistant work??
P.S. when I had my mac set up the second time, I tried copying files to my desktop by dragging them out of the hard drive. THIS would actually calculate how many files it needed to copy over, but within a few minutes, I would get some strange error message saying that something couldn't be copied because some file was open/couldn't be found (I got both kinds). And then the whole process would abort.
Should I put my old hard drive back in my mac and try to do a clone or something on it? I don't really know how this works but I thought it was unneccessary since everything should be on the hard drive...? Will it mess up my new OS install to have the old hard drive put into the computer before it's been set up?
My old hard drive also had all the software updates and was the same OS version as on the new one.

Do you have a backup that you can restore from? Your old hard drive seems to be the problem.

  • SUB Totals within a Dynamic Data Column

Has anyone ever calculated SUB Totals in a Layout with a Dynamic Data Column?
The TOTAL for all data is expressed on the Data Column tab of the Layout as C(1):C(1) - 0FISCPER / Posting Period is the Dynamic Characteristic.  When the system actually displays the 12 columns of data for the Year, the formula for TOTAL is also adjusted - no problem here.  But the user also wants SUB Totals, by Quarter, within the Year.
Any insight or suggections are appreciated !
    Thanks,
    Lyle

    Hello,
use variables Q1, ..., Q4 for the quarters and create
    data colums as follows
    1 Q1 dynamic = X
    2 Total C(1)
    3 Q2 dynamic = X
    4 Total C(3)
    5 Q3 dynamic = X
    6 Total C(5)
    7 Q4 dynamic = X
    8 Total C(7)
    9 Year Total C(2)C(4)C(6)+C(8)
