Evil spaces of doom

Every time I load a page with code on it, Robohelp removes
another space from the indenting.
Simply going between [design] and [html] editors removes a
leading space each time.
I've discovered that the problem is something to do with the
<space> tags that Robohelp inserts.
Attached are two versions of the same code section; the top
is how Robohelp formatted it using space tags, and the bottom
version is how I'm having to re-write things in [html] mode to stop
the space tags from wrecking my layout.
To avoid having to deal with the dreadful text selection in
html mode, I simply replace all occurrances of <space> or
</space> with   in html mode, and then delete any
extra spaces in design mode.
To see what I'm talking about, paste the code below into a
page in html mode, look at it in design mode (the top and bottom
code sections should look the same). Then click back and forth
between design and html modes and the indenting on the top code
section is gradually removed a space at a time.

Peter and other colleagues,
It's related to a bug in the WYSIWYG editor, which I
rediscovered just yesterday. The space is missing in the browser,
but it's in the html output code after the </span> tag. This
is a new symptom of a legacy bug, I think.
When you select text with the cursor, you can highlight the
space before the first word and/or after the last word. However,
when you apply the attribute, RH re-highlights text starting with
the first space and un-highlights the last space. The <span>
tag is after the preceding word but has no space after, while the
</span> tag is after the last word, and precedes the space
before the next word (look at the output; that space is there).
However, it seems the browser suppresses leading spaces.
If this doesn't always happen with one attribute, I think if
you have text that's bold and conditional, for example, the html
can get confused.
Also, what happens if you un-apply an attribute, perhaps
reapply another, edit text at the beginning or end, and so on? What
if you selected spanned text but beginning or ending in the middle
of a word, perhaps beyond the end of the existing span? RH5x and RH
6 sometimes got confused.
The <spaces> code appears to be Adobe's RH 7 version of
kadov (shudder); special characers have
<robohelp>mmmm</robohelp> delimiters in RH source html.
These, too, can confuse things when RH outputs html code around
span tags.
As I said, this is a legacy bug, but in the past you found it
when you had trouble applying and unapplying styles and attributes.
In RH 7, we're seeing the space getting lost in the browser
display, so it's more noticeable.
Last night I thought I'd raise the issue here before calling
it a bug.
Maybe, if Adobe confirms my diagnosis, this can contibute to
the solution.
Harvey
P.S. Another factor may be whether you are using the Windows
character set or UTF-8. I've seen this with UTF-8 and haven't
tested the other.

I keep on getting this error when i try to copy files to my 2T Time Capsule, Please help im running out of space on my MacBook Pro....
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)

I would get an external drive today and copy all your stuff off the TC.. forget trying to load more onto it. There is a good chance after 3years (A 2TB should be only about 2years tops), the disk or the TC itself is on the way out. Do it immediately. If TM is also failing to backup you need to recognise symtoms of impending doom.
Unfortunately the error messages are archane and it is hard to discover their meaning.
You also cannot verify a network drive.. you can verify the TM sparsebundle though so do that.
    A5. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Reboot the whole network from off.. certainly if you run later OS it can simply lose the drive..
If you still fail to be able to copy to the TC.. then get that external and copy off it. Tell us if you can do that.

  • Microsoft Word 2008 and Spaces problem - found a workaround

Anyone who's tried running MS Word 2008 and Spaces knows that Word is pretty much unusable. The formatting palette moves to a different space, leaving behind the title bar, and the desktops just switch automatically, windows disappear, etc.
Here's a workaround that actually makes it usable. Disable the Toolbox/formatting palette by clicking the "Toolbox" button at the top of the Word window. The formatting palette will go away. You don't want this, it's the root of all evil. To get access to the options in the formatting palette, right click on a blank space somewhere in one of the toolbars, and select the toolbars you want access to. Then the stuff that was available previously in the palette will be available as a toolbar instead.
This bug has driven me nuts for months. NUTS. This seems to have fixed it. Just make sure you never enable anything that resembles the formatting palette and all should be fine. I haven't tried opening multiple word docs in different spaces yet, only the same space.

    Hi Sickels,
Welcome an board to the Apple discussion forum for user to users ...
First of all I like to tell you that this is the wrong forum to as ...
Ad the Discussion Front page 'where ALL categories are' there is a section for Windows Compatibility. An when your computer specimens are correct it says OSX 10.4.X This is Leopard OSX 10.5.X
Now to your question > Open the application Word.
Now you will see on the right site of the Menu Bar 'FORMATTING PALETTE' next to the icon 'GALARY' click on it and the formatting palette will show up. To hide it click again on it.

  • My iBook is being evil

My iBook only turns on for the first 2 tries, and then I have to wait for about a day for it to work again. When it does work, it runs slowly and freezes frequently. It has the following stats:
    Power PC 933mhz Processor
    32mb VRAM
    384mb RAM
    Mac OSX 10.3
Does anyone know why it's doing this? I'm typing this on my iMac because the iBook doesn't like me. I tried to install Tiger but it froze while it was verifying.

Hi. iBooks aren't really evil, just recalcitrant sometimes if they're neglected
How much free space do you have? If the iBook is difficult to start try Starting up in Safe Mode.
Note that Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup.
Once you are, hopefully, started into Safe Mode select your HD, usually called 'Macintosh HD' unless you've called it something different, then File, from the menu bar and Get Info (Command + I).
You should have at least 10% free space, if you have substantially less this could be the cause of your problems. Start by emptying the Trash. Then consider what clutter has accumulated over the years that you don't need any more and Trash it, or back up to another Medium then Trash it. Again, empty the Trash.
Restart normally to see if there is any improvement.
Post back with the HD size, (Capacity), Free Space and Used for more advice.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

  • Spaces Keyboard Freeze, Possible Insight?

I’m one of the thousands who are struggling with the use of Spaces and the locked up keyboard.  When I use my keyboard to move between spaces, the Spaces image remains on the screen, freezing up my keyboard so that only limited buttons still work.  The most effective way I’ve found to combat this is to open Activity Monitor and quit the Dock, thus giving me full control of my keyboard back again.
However, in the past 24 hours I’ve discovered something that I thought might be of use to someone with more insight into OS X than myself.  I’m a Kensington Mouse user of more than 15 years.  Their Mouseworks software allows one to customize mouse clicks in any way they see fit.  Yesterday I noticed that when I go into the Mouseworks preference panel and indicate that I’d like to define a specific command for this or that button, that once I click in the space that allows me to type this command, my simple click therein immediately publishes anywhere from 1 to a half dozen characters, without my command.  It’s almost as if somehow characters are being stored in my click.  For example, I just clicked in this box and without me touching the keyboard, the letters Q and W suddenly appeared therein.
How does this relate to Spaces?  A few hours ago when Spaces locked my keyboard, I went into Mouseworks and tried this again, and when I clicked in this box which displays any command accompanying my click, only the letter Q appeared on its own.  I then canceled out of this box and pressed the letter Q on my keyboard, and Spaces unlocked!  Suddenly my keyboard was free.  A short time later Spaces locked on me again.  Going back into Mouseworks, the input box displayed, “Q W Up Arrow” after I clicked therein.  I exited out and pressed each of these keys and Spaces freed up again.
While I am a lifelong Mac user, I’m not an expert by any imagination, so I don’t know what any of this means, definitively.  It appears to me, nonetheless, that for some reason, letters and commands, keyboard keys, are somehow lingering into my mouse clicks, and it appears as if Spaces is freezing my keyboard because it’s waiting for those buttons to be pressed.
Is this a keyboard error? A preferences error?  An OS X error?  I don’t know.  But I thought that if I shared my findings here, someone might be able to look into solutions that I can’t conceive.

Okay everyone, let me add to my own post, another piece of insight in the last 24.  First, let me post an image that might help define what I've described above:
According to the instruction I've given the Mouseworks software, this box should just be "command Q", a command I've assigned to that particular mouse button.  But when I click my mouse in this box, rather than just placing the cursor there, the letter “Q” and the symbol “[“ are deposited, without my every touching the keyboard.  I then use my keyboard to change Spaces, and my keyboard get locked out.  But then I type in these two letters, the Spaces image disappears, and my keyboard is free.
If my findings in the last 24 are consistent, then here's what I've surmised: If the only button I press on my mouse is the left button, then the Spaces does not freeze on my screen and my keyboard does not lock me out. But if I hit any other button on my mouse, a button wherein I've told my software to press a keyboard combination, then Spaces does freeze, until I go back into Mouseworks, find out what key combination is lingering, and then type that combination.
One more thing.  If I've gone into Mouseworks and discovered the key combination, and then typed that combination of letters, everything is back to normal. In fact, if I immediately go back to that Mouseworks screen and click my mouse therein, there are no longer any lingering letters.  If at this point I unplug my mouse, I can uses Spaces and my Trackpad all I want, bouncing back and forth between any Space I wish by using the keyboard, and Spaces never hangs.
My conclusion: Is it possible that each of us suffering from Spaces causing our keyboards to freeze is using an external mouse?  That seems totally plausible.  Or is it possible this problem is caused by those of us who are using software to have key commands activated when we click a button?  Doesn't Apple's own Magic Mouse software allow for such?
I can't imagine that finding this for myself is unique to me.  I also can't imagine that everyone with this problem is using a Kensington mouse; that seems WAY too coincidental.  But I can imagine there's a solution somewhere in this revelation.  Is it the mouse software we need to delete?  Is it a keyboard preference that's causing characters to linger in the clicking?  Is this all some evil scheme of Steve Jobs to force all of us to use the Magic Mouse?
Look into this for yourself!  Tell me what you guys find.

  • Adding a space to contact numbers...

I am adding mobile numbers to my contacts but am wondering how I can add a space when I add them e.g. 0411 000 000, at the moment it only will enter them 0411000000

Why do you want spaces??? It's an evil thing, I hate it and it ***** up my addressbook! It won't turn off even if I have turned formatting off in Address Book.
Apple PLEASE learn from other manufacturers who have the experience of making phones, like Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Just a simple thing as sending a contact to another phone via Bluetooth or SMS, how come you haven't added that yet???

  • Removing Non-Breaking Spaces En Masse

A bunch of text I copied into a pages document is littered with lots and lots of non-breaking spaces (^ with a dot underneath it, showing up as an invisible).
Does anyone know of a way to select the affected text and convert the non-breaking spaces into regular spaces? Or am I doomed to delete each non-breaking space mark and replace each with a regular space, one at a time, over and over again, ad nauseum (Satan make note)?

Search & Replace is available to all of us.
Type alt + space in the 'search' field
Type space in the "replace' field
    Click "Replace All"

  • Slow Mac with recurrent spinning ball of doom

    Please help,
My Mac has always been slow since I had it and migrated my PC content to my Mac.  I have run EtreCheck and hope that this might illuminate the cause of my issues, but worry that it may not.  ANYTHING I ask the Mac to do will be slow and inevitably cause a spinning ball for a while.  I have kept the system up to date.  I have a lot of photos in iPhoto but can't imagine this can be the cause?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be a series of messages in the Terminal window like this:
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The messages won't be spaced equally apart in time, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
    Wait for the final message
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the last message you saw. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." • Stop iPhone adding a space to a phone number

Hi - for the third time or so, I am getting peed off that I cannot send a text to a number without iPhone adding a space.
For example if someone says: "Text STOP to 123456 to stop these messages", the iPhone reformats "123456" to "123 456" or some such, and the text does not go.
Surely there is a way to stop this? Blowed if I can find it! And Googling it has not helped.
On another point, it puts me off uising this type of texting for marketing of my own, because if I - fairly web-savvy - cannot suss it out, then many other iOS users won't be able to either.
Thanks for ideas or thoughts .
    Malc

Why do you want spaces??? It's an evil thing, I hate it and it ***** up my addressbook! It won't turn off even if I have turned formatting off in Address Book.
Apple PLEASE learn from other manufacturers who have the experience of making phones, like Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Just a simple thing as sending a contact to another phone via Bluetooth or SMS, how come you haven't added that yet???

  • Restore Failure:  not enough space on /dev/disk2s2 to restore

New MacBook Pro with Lion all up to date.  Have 9 partitions (plus the two hidden ones).  Operating system is on one with 125GB.  82.72GB are used and 42.28GB are available (says disk utility).  I want to "restore" to an external hard drive.  I don't care if that partition is bootable or not.  It is 124.48 GB and 124.26GB are free.  When I try to do the restore, I get the message in the subject above.
Background.  I've been doing exactly this for 8 years on my two previous macbooks.  It used to be that you could do this with the computer running, but it didn't always work.  Now you have to unmount the partition to restore it, which seems more likely to work.  In other words, you have to restart and go into recovery mode.  Irritating, but if it worked better it would be worth it.  (Only have to do this for the operating system partition.  Easy to backup all the others and that's been done.  However, I would really like to back up the operating system partition.)  I have always found this an easy operation.  You could copy your computer onto an external drive, replace the computer's hard drive and copy things back, all using restore in disk utility.  Obviously, if I can't copy the partition off to somewhere else, I'm not going to be able to copy it back if I ever need to.
It is true that the OS partition just points to /.  Is it possible that restore wants to carry along all the other partitions as well and that's why there isn't enough space?  If so, this is a bug, since OS has always pointed to / and there has never been a problem before.
I am moderately paranoid because I have lost enough hard drives in my life.  I do have time machine but I read that if you backup from it, it wipes out your recovery partition.  I'd like to have both my time machine and my restore copies.
I'm thinking of packing up the external hard drive and the computer and making an appointment at the apple store.  Help very much appreciated.

Disk utility seems to be broken now, at least from my point of view.
Disk Utility's restore function never was quite good to begin with, very dumb.
You'll like Carbon Copy Cloner, it's the best, and it's smart.
Especially the huge control it gives and the fact that you can update the clones and even save states between the updates as backups.
Best of all it will copy EFI and Recovery and "fit" to upgrade to larger or smaller partitions if the data will allow it. The scheduling ability is a nice feature too.
I use it for auto-updating and/or reminding me to update clone on another partition on the boot drive and external drives every few days or weeks or so, depending upon my needs. So it's nice for the fact that I can scheduale many clones on seperate hardware.
All my clones are option key bootable, plus the files can be accessed directly by any platform that can read the HFS+ format, I'm not locked into using or restoring only to another Mac.
Freedom is good, TimeMachine is the absolute purist evil as a backup system. (just kidding, it's ok for some )
BTW, if you want your data to be a lot more reliable on hard drives, you should perhaps read this.

  • Not enough free space in system storage?

It would be nice if Sony could respond with some actual solutions that work or at least show they're working on it. ***** I've been going through this for over a month now no solution

I just thought I should give an update. It's still happening. Right now, In fact, with the update for The Elder Scrolls Online. If I delete something substantial, it'll let me download the patches, but I shouldn't have to do this every time. I had 38GB of free space before trying to download it. I had to delete Resident Evil Revelations 2, giving me 58GB of free space before a 15GB patch could be downloaded. I'm glad I was moved from the much more popular US boards to here, despite my complaint having nothing to do with my location. The level of support has been excellent so far... /sarcasm.

  • Grey Screen of Doom

I've just been through a diagnostic saga, and I hope this might be useful to someone else.
    Situation
Recently my Mac Pro refused to boot. It chimed, but I could do nothing to persuade it past the beyond the grey (gray) screen of doom. I tried booting into safe mode with shift, single-user mode with command-S, verbose mode with command-V, target disk mode with T. I tried holding option to select one of my other boot drives. Nothing. I couldn't start from a disk, either with C or D (hardware test). I reset the PRAM and NVRAM – no change. I disconnected all peripherals, expansion cards and additional RAM. No change.
    Remedy
Using my PowerBook, I found one other Mac Pro user with identical symptoms. His local Genius Bar had wiped the drive, reinstalled the OS, and the fault had cleared. The thread implied that some kinds of system corruption can affect the computer at such a deep level that it can't start at all. If so, you have to wipe the disk before you can even re-install from DVD.
I removed each of my drives, starting with #1. In the end, #2 was the culprit, not the boot drive. To me, this changes the focus of blame from the OS to hardware. The failure of one SATA drive prevented the rest of the system from booting. I've never experienced that before.
    *_Data Recovery_*
I didn't hold much hope for recovering data. I installed it in a Firewire enclosure, and after several minutes with the spinning pizza, Disk Utility found it, but refused to mount it. It failed to repair. reporting "+Invalid B-tree node size+".
Disk Warrior reported hardware malfunctions, but it did enable me to recover the majority of the data.
    Summary
Anyone experiencing a totally impenetrable grey screen of doom should also try disconnecting their hard drive to eliminate either system corruption or failure – which I've not seen in a fault-finding tree before.

    Hi JCohen,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
What I believe is wrong with your computer is that your Firmware is corrupted. I don't know why it happened since you were changing network locations, but it might be the way you shut off you computer. I believe if you do an Archive and Install, you should be fine. In order to preform and Archive and Install, you need to have:
Install Disks - You need to have the install/restore discs that came with your last version of OS X (The current version). Meaning if you got your computer with Tiger, use the Tiger DVDs that came with your iBook. If you had Panther and upgraded to Tiger, use the Tiger DVDs. You are going to want to have the Disc 1.
Hard Drive Space - When one performs an Archives and Install, they are basically archiving their current hard drive (Some applications/preferences may not work after an Archive and Install!) and putting it on your new one. You will see a Previous System folder, which has all your files from before your Archive and Install.
Patience - Working with computers can be aggravating and stressful, don't let it get to you. From years of experience I have learned that the more annoyed and aggravated I become, the worse the problem gets. The reason being most people don't think things through nor take their time when they are annoyed. If you notice your becoming stress/annoyed, take a break and relax. When you feel better you can resume working.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • Doom 3 multiplayer mode problem

    Hi,
When I attempt to use the multiplayer mode in Doom 3, each and every server I try and access tells that I am missing files in order to join the game. Occasionally, I have been offered a download of what some of the necessary files.
I installed a patch earlier today which made the server list appear (prior to installing the patch, I couldn't even see that). I've also tried reinstalling the game to see if that helped.
Am I missing something? The multiplayer problem aside, the game works without a hitch.

  • In order to create space on my MBA I just bumped iTunes media to G drive linked through Time Capsule.  Now pointed iTunes at new iTunes libary on G drive and, even though all music files are there, iTunes can only 'see' 10 albums. Any help appreciated.

    Bit more detail...
Mac Book Air has been struggling for space for a while so I bough at time capsule a) for back up and b) to host my itunes folder remotely.  This didnt' work.  I took it into the Genius bar and the genius there told me that time capsule is not designed for anything other than back up.  Instead I have to connect a G drive through the time capsule's wireless router to my MBA.
I followed his instructions - moved my files from the Time Capsule and MBA directly onto the G Drive - which took a heartening 2 hrs so something must have been happening - and the held down 'Alt' when starting iTunes and selected the new itunes folder as the location of my itunes libarary which I wanted iTunes to 'point at'.  When I opened iTunes only 10 albums are visible now.
In ITunes advanced preferences it says it is pointing at the correct folder.  The files are all cleary there when I open the G Drive folder to take a look.  But I cannot get iTunes to find them.
    Any suggestions?
Secondary challenge - in spite of deleting the original itunes folder on my MBA I still get messages pop up telling me my start up disk is out of space and I need to clear some - I expected to stop getting this message now I had done this exercise above.  I have emptied Trash.  Again - any pointers appreciated.  I am new to this world of 'intuitive' macbooks.
    Cheers

After admittedly only a quick read the one thing you don't say is how you are trying to make this move.  Most people with moving library issues do it the wrong way.  Plenty of web sites tell you how to do it the wrong way.
If the iTunes application is started before the drive with the library is fully mounted and awake iTunes will revert back to the internal drive.

  • NULL and Space value in ABAP

    Hi All,
I like to know, is it NULL and Space value is same in ABAP, if it is not how to check null value.
    Thank you.
    Senthil

everything is correct though some answers are not correct.
A Database NULL value represents a field that has never been stored to database - this saving space, potentially.
Usually all SAP tables are stored with all fields, empty fields are stored with their initial value.
But: If a new table append is created and the newly-added fields do not have the 'initial value' marked in table definition, Oracle will just set NULL values for them.
as mentioned: There is no NULL value to be stored in an ABAP field. The IS NULL comparison is valid only for WHERE clause in SELECT statement. WHERE field = space is different from WHERE field IS NULL. That's why you should check for both specially for appended table fields.
If a record is selected (fulfilling another WHERE condition) into an internal table or work area, NULL values are convertted to their initial values anyway.
Hope that sheds some light on the subject!
    regards,
    Clemens
