Excel 2013 Power Map Preview Issue

Hi-
I used power map to make some great data visualizations-it looked amazing and the interactivity was fantastic.  Now, when I open up my spreadsheet, or try to create a new one, the land forms are missing.  It looks like the world was flooded.  My
data points still show up, but I cannot seem to get the land to show up unless I zoom in quite a bit (making it less useful).  It appears to be having trouble rendering the bing map, I have attempted changing the theme, but that does not help.  I
also tried repairing the install.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
Jesse

Ok ,now I have no idea for this problem. How about if you add the Bing Maps app for office, will it work?

Maybe try to disable hardware graphics acceleration(File->Options->Advanced->check the option 'disable...') .
Or use another user account to log on this computer to test this issue.
In addition, you could try to submit a new question to the forum below:

  • Excel 2013 hangs when previewing xls file made by Reporting Server 2008

    Hi all.
I have a unusual error in excel 2013. We have a homepage that delivers statics to our users and there you can choose to export the webpage to a xls file via SQL ReportingServer 2008. The thing is when I open this exported file in Excel and hit the print
button, excel crashes. It seems to crash during the preview of the document. If I make a document by hand that has exactly the same format as the exported document, excel will preview and print it.
I have tried to change default printer and printer drivers but no success. Office 2013 is also up to date.
If I save the document from SRSS and try to print it from another computer with Excel 2013 installed, it crashes Excel.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Did you use another Excel file to preview or print? Did the Excel crash again?
I recommend we export a different webpage to a XLSX, then we test it again.
I notice that you try to print the document from another compute and also crashed Excel.
Following this, I suppose that there were some underidentified characters in the file.
After that, I suggest we save as the file to PDF to test.

I have tried printing another excelfile without problems. Infact I can make a replica manually of the report and print it without problem. I can't narrow it down to either a RS fault or Excel fault cause the logfiles don't say much. If I export the report
to a PDF it prints fine, but my users will complain about lack of editing :-)
If I save the xls file to xlsx and tries to print it also hangs in print preview.
An interesting thing is when i export the file to PDF/XPS (PDF in this case) it also hangs Excel...
How do I look for underidentified
characters in the file? I don't see anything in the spreadsheet.

  • Excel 2013 - Copy and Paste Issue

    if I select and
copy a cell that contains a formula that references cells all on the same work sheet and
    paste that
cell in the same cell in the same work sheet in another work book, the pasted cell looks exactly like the copied cell.
For example, I copied cell V41 from the ‘Rating Summary’ work sheet in the ‘Analysis_Distr#3_QA#3.xls’ file and pasted it in cell V41 in the ‘Rating Summary’ work sheet in the ‘Analysis_Distr#3_QA#4.xls’ work book and obtained
    the following results.
    Copied Cell   "   =IF(AND(FLOOR(U41,1)<=T41,U41>0),FLOOR(U41,1),"N/A")
    Pasted Cell   "   =IF(AND(FLOOR(U41,1)<=T41,U41>0),FLOOR(U41,1),"N/A")
The pasted cell is exactly the same as the copied cell.
    But, if I select and
copy a cell that contains a formula that references cells on other work sheets in the same file and
    paste that
cell in the same cell in the same work sheet in another work book, the pasted cell looks different than the copied because
the formula in the pasted cell references cells on other worksheets that are now preceded by links to the source work book.
For example, I copied cell X46 from the ‘Rating Summary’ work sheet in the ‘Analysis_Distr#3_QA#3.xls’ file and pasted it in cell X46 in the ‘Rating Summary’ work sheet in the ‘Analysis_Distr#3_QA#4.xls’ work book and obtained the
    following results.
    Copied Cell   "   =IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",'Safe Load Capacities'!H27="N/R"),"District Original
File OPR Ratings",IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",'Safe Load Capacities'!H27=1),"District Original File OPR Ratings",IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",OR('Safe Load Capacities'!H27=0.9,'Safe Load Capacities'!H27=0.8),'Safe Load Capacities'!H28="No"),"District

    Pasted Cell   "   =IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",'[Analysis_Distr#3_QA#3.xls]Safe Load Capacities'!H27="N/R"),"District
Original File OPR Ratings",IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",'[Analysis_Distr#3_QA#3.xls]Safe Load Capacities'!H27=1),"District Original File OPR Ratings",IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",OR('[Analysis_Distr#3_QA#3.xls]Safe Load Capacities'!H27=0.9,'[Analysis_Distr#3_QA#3.xls]Safe

Load Capacities'!H27=0.8),'[Analysis_Distr#3_QA#3.xls]Safe Load Capacities'!H28="Yes"),"District Original File SLC Ratings",""))))
The pasted cell is different from the copied cell because the formula in the pasted cell references cells on other worksheets that are now preceded by links to the source work book.
    However, if I select a
cell that contains a formula that references cells on another work sheet but
    copy the
text for that cell from the formula bar and
    paste the
text in the formula bar for the same cell in the same work sheet in another file, the pasted cell looks exactly the same as the copied cell.
For example, I copied the text in the formula bar for cell X46 from the ‘Rating Summary’ work sheet in the ‘Analysis_Distr#3_QA#3.xls’ file and pasted it in the formula bar for cell X46 in the ‘Rating Summary’ work sheet in the
‘Analysis_Distr#3_QA#4.xls’ file and obtained the following results.
    Copied Cell   "   =IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",'Safe Load Capacities'!H27="N/R"),"District
Original File OPR Ratings",IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",'Safe Load Capacities'!H27=1),"District Original File OPR Ratings",IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",OR('Safe Load Capacities'!H27=0.9,'Safe Load Capacities'!H27=0.8),'Safe Load Capacities'!H28="No"),"District

    Pasted Cell   "   =IF(AND(LEFT(J30,1)="D",'Safe Load Capacities'!H27="N/R"),"District

The pasted cell is exactly the same as the copied cell.
I want to select, copy and paste a group of cells as described above in ‘red’ but obtain the results as described above in ‘green’; in other words, I don’t want the links to the source work book preceding the references to cells on other work sheets.
At this point, the only solution I know is to apply the procedure described above in ‘green’ one cell at a time.  As you can imagine, this would be a tedious process if there are sixteen cells to copy involving seventy-two work books. Thanks

  • I cannot see clustered, stacked, or bubble charts on power map

    Hi,
I just recently installed 365 and am trying to create stacked charts on power map. However, I cannot see the chart, except heatmap. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thank you in advance.

Can you clarify a couple things.
    1) by "installed 365" - Does this mean you are using Excel 2013 Pro Plus?
    2) Are you using Power Map in Excel 2013, or are you talking about the Map visualization in PowerView in Excel, BI Designer, or Dashboards in O365?
In Excel 2013 Power Map - you should see all the choices below the Fields list, all the time...

  • Power Map - Start up problems

    Hi,
I am brand new to the software Power Map and have just installed 'Excel 2013 + Power Map'.
When opening an empty sheet and press the 'Map' button, I get this failure message (in Swedish unfortunatley):
'It is not possible to create an instance for Power Map. It is not possible to find the file..'
Is this because I have no data in the sheet?
    Thanks!
    Johan..

    Johan,
I don't think this is because there is no data in the sheets. I tried launching Power Map form a new/blank workbook. And Power Map does launch, and shows me the message as below.
I would recommend reinstalling the add-in + sending feedback to the Microsoft team using the "smiley" at the top right corner.
Power Map needs data to work with. Select a table or a range in Excel and click on "Add Selected Data to Power Map' under the Map button in the Insert tab of the ribbon

  • Power Map in Excel 2013 (Office 2013 Professional Plus) will not show up in ribbon

I have tried literally everything and nothing works.
I can download the preview version of the Powermap addin and it works.
But by default the add-in will not show up in the ribbon.
I uninstalled , reinstalled, re-ran SP1 of office 2013. double checked the load behaviour,
    ran a repair.. nothing works.
Powerview displays fine, Bing Maps... just not Power Map

    Hi Kenneth,
Since you are using Office 2013 Professional Plus, you can only use Power Map Preview for Excel 2013, which is an unsupported add-in. See:

  • Power Map in Excel 2013

I have recently managed to persuade my company to provide me with a standalone copy of Excel 2013 so that I can use the functionality provided by Power Map Preview for Excel 2013. This is despite the fact that the company currently standardises on Excel
2007. I have had the product installed and activated and it also appears to recognize the Power Map Add on, however the Power Map button remain greyed out. There is nothing to suggest that this version of Excel is incompatible with Power Map Preview however
I cannot get it to work. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. _thanks

    Hi,
As far as I know, Power Map Preview is available in the Office Professional Plus and Office 365 Professional Plus editions, and in the standalone edition of Excel 2013.
And make sure we have enable the Add-in. Go file tab> Options> Add-ins> Com add-ins> Check Power view.
Then, please we need to drag a geographic field such as Country/Region, State/Province, or City to the Power View sheet or view to create a table.
If we do not choose the filed, the map button is greyed out.
Tip    A geographic field might be marked with a small globe icon. This identifies it as a geographic field.
Drag a numeric field such as Sales to the table.
On the Design tab, click Map.
Click Enable Content to send the data to Bing for geocoding through a secured web connection.
Power View creates a map with a dot for each value, such as each city. The size of the dot represents the value.
To convert the dots to pie charts, add a category field to the Color box for the map.

  • Excel Stops working everytime I try to start Power Maps

I am a long time Map Point user (since 2002 or 2004), and am trying to convert over to Power Maps. I use Map Point to visualize sales data and sales routes for my reps.  By importing and exporting data by geography.
I have not yet had any luck with starting Power Maps. I have Office 365 through my company and I have downloaded the preview without success.  I am using windows technical preview.  I have confirmed that I have DirectX 11 and am trying to run
    though Excel 2013.
When I try to launch Power Map from the tool bar, I get a message that Microsoft Excel has stopped working and my only option is to close the program.  This happens with any and all spreadsheets.
Can someone please help me understand and fix what's wrong.  I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft office and that did not help.
    Thank you,
    Jason

Hi Jko3969, when you said: "I have Office 365 through my company and I have downloaded the preview
without success. " what do you mean? That you downloaded the Power Map preview from microsoft downloads? If so that's not the correct version, the version available to download is the old power map preview before microsoft released the final version.
If you have an Office 365 subscription and you installed the Office available from this subscription rather than the "desktop/standalone" version, then you
should already have the newest version available for you, unfortunately it comes disabled by default, . You can enabled it going to File > Options > Add-Ins. In the bottom of the page where it says Manage select COM Add-Ins, hit Go and then select
Power Map for Excel.. this will enable.
You can also try after this to go to File > Account and check for Updates to make sure you have the
latest version of power map installed.
Can you give a try and let us know if you still see this error after that?

  • Power Map is not shown in the Ribbon

I have seen similar questions before, but many updates has happened for Power Map from last year when that question was asked. So sure if it is still the same situation.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/2480e2d8-a75d-4a80-a8d6-71cf5be97bf4/power-map-addin-enabled-but-no-ribbon-shortcut?forum=powermap
Basically, I installed Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus, I enabled Power Pivot, Power View and Power Map, all of them are shown as active under "Excel Options" after you open "File"-"Options"-"Add-Ins". But
only Power Pivot and Power View is shown in the Ribbon. Power Map is supposed to show under "Insert"-"Tours", just next to "Power View"(Please see example).  It is NOT there.

I tried uninstall Office and Install it again. I also checked that it is the most recent version (as now 15.0.4659.1001), I checked LoadBehavior in Registry Editor, the value is 3.  But I do find that for Power Pivot and Power View,
there are four values((Default), Description, FriendlyName, LoadBehavior), for Power Map, there are only two ((Default), LoadBehavior). However I tried to create (Description, FriendlyName) for Power Map in Registry Editor, it's still not working. I later
tried to use repair office from "Control Pannel"-"Programs and Features" it's still not working.
I might be Rookie on Power Map and there might already be solutions widely known among profesionals. I really appreciate if professionals can help me to fix that. Considering I spend much more money just to get functions of Power Map addins.
if this is truely a bug in Map Power, I hope Microsoft would be awared of this.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Since you have Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 installed in your PC, you need download and use the Power Map Preview for Excel 2013 as an unsupported add-in.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38395
A new preview version that replaces the earlier preview is available on the Download Center page. The earlier version of the Power Map Preview is expired, and won't work with any version of Excel. If you have the earlier version, uninstall it from Control
Panel, then download and install the current version of the Power Map Preview.

I installed Power Maps Preview and the add-in is active, but it doesn't display in the ribbon. I unistalled the program several times and re-downloaded it, but it still does not work. Many of the discussion threads on this topic contain dead links for fixes

That's a strange one. Run Thinkvantage System Update, or just download and install most recent PM driver and software. Maybe refreshing these will give you PM back. Otherwise, I believe you may also have a setting in the BIOS for the beep. Not in front of my X100 now, but I know I have this setting on my X60s.

  • Power Map not working properly

    Hi all
I have worked sporadically with Power Map since the first GeoFlow non-public beta.
Now i have upgraded to the new bits, with both Power Query and Power Map, but my Power Map isn't functioning.
When i plot some data i can se a lot of grey Squares appearring, representing the locations, so the data is being geo coded correctly from Bing, but when i add a measure and expect to see the bars rising on the map, nothing happens.
I have tried on my primary laptop, on a completely newly installed Windows 8 with Office 365 ProPlus and on a newly installed Windows 8 with Office 2013 Professional Plus - all with same result.
I really need to have a working demo environment up and running, so any help would be appreciated.

    Hello again,
We recently released an updated Power Map
preview that now includes VM support. Give it a try!
That said, you mentioned that you're running Parallels and I haven't been able to find confirmation that current versions of Parallels officially support DirectX 10 (which is a system requirement for Power Map). I found a Parallels forum
post saying that Parallels Desktop 8 includes experimental support for DirectX 10 but the current Parallels Desktop 9 landing
page still references DirectX 9. Your mileage may vary. Good luck!
    I hope this helps!
