Excel - Filters/Pivot tables

Hi!
For some of our users whenever they export Viewer reports to Excel, they loose the filter options that available in the original Discoverer Viewer reports. However, for others such as myself this works fine.
Is there a configuaration option somewhere? Everyone is using IE6, Excel 2000, and have the Security settings for macros set to medium in Excel.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Martin

Unfortunately for what you want to do, hiding of rows does not hide the data from the formulas. This is true with the category functions as well the regular functions. Can you reorder the precedence of your categories to get the hidden stuff to not be in the subtotals? In other words if you have a category based on column A and a sub-category of column B, can you make B be the main category and A be the sub-category to achieve your results?

    check out this [LINK|http://sample-code-abap.blogspot.com/2009/05/reset-alv-export-option-for-user.html]
the report SALV_BS_ADMIN_MAINTAIN is used to reset this setting. It's easy, run the report, select and delete the record for the specific user from report output and that user will get the dialog again.

  • Excel 2010 Pivot Table VBA Not Refreshing Table

My company recently upgraded from Excel 2003 to 2010. I had VBA written to take source data and convert it into a number of Pivot Tables on a number of worksheets. It has been working fine for years. After upgrading to 2010 the VBA crashed. I tracked it
down to the fact that when my code was making changes to the Pivot Tables (changing fields, filters, etc...) the pivot table on the worksheet had no data, but the fields were there. I can manually go to the pivot table and manually refresh and all the data
    comes in.
So I tried adding the VBA code to refresh the pivot table, but the pivot tables will not refresh with data.
    I tried:
    ActiveSheet.PivotTables("WO Pivot").RefreshTable
    and
    ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAll
    And these did not work.
I also tried recording a macro for the manual steps to refresh and got:
     ActiveSheet.PivotTables("WO Pivot").PivotCache.Refresh
    This does not work either.
The PivotTable name is correct, but I tried using the number as well, and the name works for other code manipulating the the pivot table.
    e.g.:
    With ActiveSheet.PivotTables("WOPivot").PivotFields("Task Title")
          .Orientation = xlRowField .Position = 2
.Subtotals = Array(False, False, False, False, False, False, False, False, False, False, _False, False)
    End
With Why isn't this working? Is there another way to refresh pivot table data in 2010?
Thanks. P.S. I've tried formating this so it is readable, but it comes out garbled. Hope this looks better.

The solution above didn't work for me, but the following did the trick:
    ActiveSheet.PivotTables("WOPivot").PivotCache.Refresh
By the way, I identified it by recording a macro, then going on the Pivot Table that needed refreshing and pressing F9 to refresh it. The line of VBA code above was the result.
    Cheers,
    Marco.

  • Excel containing pivot table - Problem when opening

    Hi,
There is jsp that generates an excel with few pivot tables in it. In the open/save dialog, if I save the excel and open it, it displays fine but if it is opened up directly, it gives an error saying "Reference is invalid".
Note: The range for the pivot tables are specified using named ranges ( data is in different sheet from that of the pivot table ) ... but it works fine if saved and reopened.
just confused of this behaviour... any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
    Regards...

This seems to be a bug with the Excel. This works fine with Netscape and also should work fine with other browsers. In IE, the temp file is created with a file name that ends with a square bracket at the end( eg. myExcel[1].xls ) and this is contrary to the file naming convention of ms-excel ( should not contain '[' or ']' ).
Only solution is, open the excel file as inline...
response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename = myExcel.xls");Please advice if my perception is wrong or is there any other work around for this? I have tried using all types of headers when sending the response but nothing helps.
    To check this,
Create an excel file and try to save it with a file name that contains square brackets...
    Regards...

  • MS Excel 2011 pivot tables and Lion

    Hi,
I run quite a lot of spreadsheets with pivot tables in MS Excel 2011. With the most recent version of Snow Leopard and all the patches from Microsoft it seemed to be working quite well. The minute after the upgrade to Lion, when I tried to refresh a pivot table Excel crashed, and it is crashing on every single file that I have. I also created new files from scratch, ran a new pivot table, and the second time I open the file it would crash upon refresh.
Apart from being extremely annoying, there seems to be no way around it for the time being; I really hope that with the next release of Office 2011 they fix it. Anyone has similar experiences or ideas?
    Thanks,
    Claudio

This is absolutely a problem after insalling Lion!  Office 11 was a great improvement over office 08 to handle pivot tables and now pivot tables are basically useless on Office 11, running Lion.  I confirm that munipulating pivot tables in Excel 11 causes excel to crash every time.

It would be better if you can provide us with more information for this issue....
In PivotTable reports, you can use summary functions or customer calculations in value field. You can also create your own formulas in calculated fields and calculated items.
    Please refer to:http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/excel-help/calculate-values-in-a-pivottable-report-HP010382405.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HP005200663

  • SSAS Default Member Causing incorrect data in Excel Pivot Table using Multi-select in filter

I have an Excel 2013 pivot table connected to an SSAS (2012) cube. One of my dimensions has a default member specified. When I drop this dimension in the filter area of my pivot table and select multiple members including the default member then
only data for the default member is shown. Selecting multiple members where the default member is not included does not result in an issue.
I believe this may be in an issue in how Excel builds the MDX but wanted to see if there are any work arounds.
This issue can be recreated using AdvetureWorks using the following steps:
Alter the Product Dimension of the SSAS Default Member by setting the default member of the Product Line Attribute to Mountain: [Product].[Product Line]&[M]
    Process the cube
Connect to the cube via Excel 2013
Drag internet gross profit to the Values area (The value will be 4700437.22 which reflects the Mountain default filter)
Drag Product Model Lines to the Filters area (you will see Mountain selected by default)
Change the filter by checking the Select Multiple Items checkbox and checking Mountain and Road (You will see that the amount does not change)
Change the filter again by selecting Road only (to demonstrate that Road has a value, 5602105.8, associated with it)
Change the filter again to select Road and Touring (to demonstrate that the correct aggregation of the two selected members is preformed)

    Hi Hirmando,
According to your description, the default member cause incorrect data when dragging a attribute that contain a default member to the FILTERS area, right?
I can reproduce this issue on my environment, when dropping this dimension in the filter area of my pivot table and select multiple members including the default member then only data for the default member is shown. Currently, it's hard to say the root
reason that cause this issue. In order to narrow down this issue, please apply the latest server pack and cumulative update.
Besides, you can submit a feedback at
http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback So that microsoft will confirm if this is a know issue.

  • Multi-level UPCs (I can do as pivot table in Access and Excel, but not SAP)

I'm working for a shoe manufacturer. We've got inventory that can be grouped into "cases" as well as "open-case" in regards to UPCs. We're able to apply the UPC to individual items such as open-case stock OR case-only, but we can't figure out how we can add the groupings needed to add UPCs to individual items AND the cases associated with each shoe/size. Here's a little more detail: We sell shoes in cases, MOSTLY. Occasionally, we have a shoe model that will sell as open-case. The cases (which have a UPC) contain an assortment of sizes (each of which has its own UPC). We need to be able to access the information for the associated cases when looking at a product and when on a case, we need to see the make-up of the case - such as associated sizes, qty contained, and their respective UPCs. I know we could easily do this in Access or Excel using pivot tables... Is this POSSIBLE in SAP Business One???

You may check Sales BOM function to see if that meet your need. The case can be set up as an Sales BOM item.
    Thanks,

  • Hide Blank Rows in a Pivot Table in Outline Form in Excel 2010

In Excel 2010 Pivot Tables, using the Outline Format and Repeat Item Labels, is it possible to hide the rows with no data?  Please see atch.
    Doug in York PA
    Douglas R. Eckert

    Hi,
If you want to hide these subtotal rows, you have to use the Tabular forum, the Tabular layout is very similar to Outline except that you will not
have subtotals at the top of every group.
1.Right-click an item in the pivot table field, and click Field Settings
2.In the Field Settings dialog box, click the Layout & Print tab.
3.Check the 'Show item labels form in tabular form’
    check box.
    4.Click OK
Then your pivot table layout should look like the image below:

  • Excel Pivot Table with Date Hierarchies - query performance degradation

For the sake of this explanation, I’m going to try and keep it simple. Slicing the data by additional dimensions only makes the issue worse. I’ll keep this description to one fact table and three dimensions. Also, I’m fairly new to SSAS Tabular; I’ve worked
with SSAS Multidimensional in the past.
We’ve got a fact table that keeps track of bill pay payments made over time. Currently, we only have about six months of data, with the fact row count at just under 900,000 rows. The grain is daily.
There is an Account dimension (approx. 460,000 rows), with details about the individual making a payment.
There is a Payment Category dimension (approx.. 35,000 rows), which essentially groups various Payees into groups which we like to report on: Automobile Loan, Mortgage, Insurance, etc.
There is the requisite Date dimension  (exactly 62093 rows-more days than we need?), which allows visibility as to what is being paid when.
Using this DW model, I’ve created a SSAS BISM Tabular model, from which Excel 2010 is ultimately used to perform some analysis, using Pivot Tables. In the tabular model, for easier navigation (doing what I’ve always done in SSAS MultiDimensional), I’ve created
several Date Hierarchies, Year-Month, Year-Quarter-Month, etc.
There are currently only two measures defined in the Tabular model: one for the “Sum of PaymentAmount”; one for the “PaymentsProcessed”.
OK, in Excel 2010, using a Pivot Table, drag the “Sum of PaymentAmount” measure to the Values section, next to/under the PivotTable Field List. Not too exciting, just the grand total of all Payments, for all time.
Drag the “YearMonth” hierarchy (from the Date dimension) to the “Column Labels” section. After expanding the year hierarchy to see the months, now the totals are for each of the months, for which we have data, for June through November, 2013.
Drag the “PaymentCategory” (from the Payment Categories dimension) to the “Report Filter” section. Filter accordingly: We just want to see the monthly totals for “Automobile Loans”.
Now, some details. Drag the “AccountSK” (hiding the actual account numbers) to the “Row Labels” section. This shows all accounts that have made Automobile Loan payments over the last six months, showing the actual payment amounts.
So far, so good. Remember, I’m using a Date Hierarchy here, in this case “YearMonth”
Now, if any of the other attributes on the Account dimension table, say “CreditScore”, or “LongName”, are subsequently dragged over to the “Row Lables” section, under the “AccountSK”, the results will never come back, before timing out or by giving up and
    pressing ESCape!
If this exact scenario is done by removing the Date Hierarchy, “YearMonth” from the “Column Labels” and replace it with “Year” and “MonthName” attributes from the Date dimension, these fields not being in any sort of hierarchy, adding an additional “Account”
attribute does not cause any substantial delay.
What I’m trying to find out is why is this happening? Is there anything I can do as a work around, other than what I’ve done by not using a Date Hierarchy? Is this a known issue with DAX and the query conversion to MDX? Something else?
I’ve done a SQL Profiler trace, but I’m not sure at this point what it all means. In the MDX query there is a CrossJoin involved. There are also numerous VertiPaq Scans which seems to be going through each and every AccountSK in the Account dimension, not
just the ones filtered, to get an additional attribute (About 3,600 accounts which are “Automobile Loan” payments.).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks! Happy Holidays!
    AAO

Thanks for your reply Marco. I've been reading your book, too, getting into Tabular.
I've set up the Excel Pivot Table using either the Year/MonthName levels, or the YearMonth hierarchy and then adding the additional attribute for the CreditScore.
Incidentally, when using the YearMonth hierarchy and adding the CreditScore, all is well, if the Year has not been "opened". When this is done, I suspect the same thing is going on.
From SQL Profiler, each of the individual MDX queries below (formatted a bit for readability).

  • Pivot table that uses a Stored Procedure parameter and filters the data based on it

Hello, my 1st post.  I am lost.  Please help.
I am trying to create an Excel Pivot Table that has data that comes from an ODC but needs to be filtered based on a parameter from a Stored Procedure.  This involves Project Server.  I need to filter the results based on the RBS value of the logged
in user.  My Stored Procedure can return the RBS as long as the ResourceNTAccount value is given.  I cant figure out how to tie this all together.

    Hi,
Based on your description,I think this issue should be  more related to Programming/coding, you can sumbit a new case to MSDN forum.
As I'm not quite formular with Project Server, all I can tell you is that it is easy to running a Stored Procedure within Excel, however, if you have to pass dynamic parameters you’ll have to turn to VBA.For detailed information, please refer

  • Limit a Pivot Table filter to just one group (Excel 2010)

I use Excel 2010 and want to apply a filter to just one group of data within a Pivot Table.
It appears that filters are applied to the entire Pivot table; is there a way to limit the scope of a filter so it is applied to just a single group of data (grouped using the group function within a Pivot). Alternatively could I apply a filter to just a
selection of rows within the Pivot?
I have tried breaking my pivot into separate tables and applying the filters individually but the tables interfere with each other when expanded/collapsed and generate the Excel "overlapping tables" error message.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

  • Excel Pivot Table not working Office 2013 click to run

    Hi
I have a user who is having an issue with Excel pivot tables.
Issue occurs when opening an old excel-file (created with Office 2007) and then saving it with another name (Save As).
When opened the next time, system gives attached error message when trying to update Pivot with "Alt + F5" command.
--> For some reason it wants to find something from that old excel file + Pivot is not updated.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Dan Smith

Thank you George for your reply. The user tried the Analyze-->Change Data Source and this is what was found:
The original file name was ”Kaiken_syyskuu2014_2.xlsx”. (see the pic below)
When I have saved it as “Kaken_marraskuu2014”, it seems that all the pivots are still linked to “Kaiken_syyskuu2014_2”??
In earlier Office version this did not happen.
This excel file must be updated on monthly basis. There is tens of different pivots, so It would be quite nightmare to update the names for every Data Source one by one, every month (actually it is not possible to type name for the data
source, ranges/tables have to be selected manually).
These pivots are not re-created every month. Only the data source gets updated by pressing (Alt + F5)
This problems is solved if the pivot table data source gets updated also (=source is same than new file name) when you give new name for the file (=Save as).
I don’t see the point why pivots are still linked to old file, if you have already gave new file name for the entire excel-file.
    I hope you can help.
    Thanks
